  1. Hellbent ran. His feet wore down, blood soaking the ground under him. He tripped, and his body didn't get up. Pain. Everything was pain. He slipped into the Cognitive Realm, leaving the body at the edge of a giant crater. It was dead. He ran through the cognitive realm, wishing he had a physical form. But there wasn't time to find one of his cashes. He ran, and kept running. He felt the other body detach from him, his soul, the technology running it until he could again. He kept running, blood not staying on the ground, but the blood still flowing. He ran, ran. His soul needed to be fixed. Titan, a demonic creature, had feared him. Titan looks down on him. He steps back, fearful. "What had gone wrong with you? Why is your soul so twisted?" He knew from an ancient legend, only gods could fix a truly shattered soul. Luckily, he knew where he could find them. But he could feel his spiritweb decaying. The power of Ruin inside him was unstable, and his soul had already been broken. He ran, until he passed a Parshendi, standing in the Alleystorm, trying to change forms. An idea stuck him, and he entered the body. ~~~ The Singer stood there, confused. It should work. This is the same as a highstorm. Then he felt something change. Yes. Thank the shards. Then the pain hit. He cried, wept, wanting his mother. He was thirty, but he was a child again. He felt his very soul ripping. He cried, the burning sensation ripping through his body, shaking it. He wept, but it didn't stop. Then... it did. He changed. He stood up, smiling. ~~~ Hellbent stood there. In the physical realm again. "This body is... powerful. I like power." He looked around, then flexed his arm. It broke the rock he was holding. Looking down, he realized the body had changed. What to call this? Oh, I know. "Ruinform." The body had batlike wings, but with the carapace of a Parshendi. He had armor like his old, but part of him. A strong carapace, red, with veins of purple. His skin was black, with red specks, and his eyes... his eyes were fire. Pure fire. He flew and jumped, the body propelling him forward. This is a form fit for gods. I am a god. Fly, jump, bound, run. He kept going, only stopping to eat a human at the Alleyharbor. He kept going, and soon reached the sea. At this, he flew. Flew, and flew, and flew. He went underwater, near the east pole, swimming. He passed Parshendi, swimming, gills and all. This form needed little air, so he very rarely got back up. He passed strange spren, Santhid, underwater Chasmfiends. He passed a huge dark tower, but he didn't have time to check it out. He swam, then flew, then swam. Finally, he saw it. The Mountain Of The Gods. The Alleymount. The kingdom of power. The eternal break. His destination. ~~~ Ark1002 watched the progress of Hellbent, smiling as the typing continued. Yes, this is going well. RPing is fun. He waited, watching, and eating. After all, he had to eat. ~~~ He swam close o the shore, then burst out. He was Hellbent. He would meet the gods, and they would fix him. He walked up to it, touching it. The only difference from a normal mountain is it's size. Now, where are the guards? Hellbent had heard that there was guards, which was why it hadn't been entered before. As he took a step, a Sphinx grew from the stone. Hellbent wasn't sure where the stone ended and the flesh began. He had never seen anything so strange. "Do you know the truth about yourself? Do you know who you are?" Hundreds of shapes grew around him, coming out of the stone, the air, Hellbent own flesh. "Choose three. If you are right, you may pass. Otherwise you will die." Hellbent looked around, then spun, within four seconds tapping half of the luck of sixteen years worth of compounding. He held in his hands three things, one made of crystal, one obsidian, one made of gold. A golden phoenix. Of course. An obsidian skull. The power of Ruin. A crystal circle with Aon Shao carved into it. Change? What in the three realms? He showed them to the sphinx, and it melted into the ground, along with the rest of the things. Only the things in his hands remained. He had a small notch in his carapace, and he put them in it. They wouldn't fall out there. ~~~ Ark smiled. Even I didn't expect how that turned out. Well, I'm glad Hellbent passed the first trial. ~~~ Hellbent had climbed for what seemed like hours. Or days? Seconds? He climbed, and still wasn't even close to the clouds. Then he saw it. Aon Shao again? He stepped on it, and the ground shifted. Two pedestals grew out of the ground. One held a gold crown, glowing, and one held a sword, sucking in the light. A voice echoed. "Why do you try? You will fail. You can leave now, taking your heart's desire. The crown will enslave whomever you want, building your empire. If you prefer, you can take the sword. It will kill anyone, severing there soul, destroying them in Physical, Cognitive, and Spiritual. It just needs a little investiture..." Hellbent resisted the pull, walking slowly. Each step was a struggle, but he took it. It got harder and harder, but he kept going. He resisted the pull. Finally, he stepped off of the Aon. The pull disappeared, and the pedestals sunk away. He walked again. ~~~ Ark was proud of this one. This is the climax of my chosen. My first, and my best. This one is my child. He yawned, smiled, and walked away from the fourth wall. "I need a hot pocket, and a break..." ~~~ He was tired. He had sweat until he had no more, he had bled until there appeared to be a creek behind him, but he had not cried. And finally, it payed off. He broke the cloud cover. Looking up, he saw... eternity. I still have a long way to go. But I'm nearly to the second stage, the second realm. Looking down, he saw the stone had black veins running through it. He walked, and the veins got thicker, and increased in number, until normal stone was almost gone. He reached a huge statue, the size of a giant building, made of stone, and holding a crystal ball in it's hand. It amplified his power, he felt feruchemy, stormlight, ruin, all amplified. It consumed him, he became instinctive. He soulcast a huge spiral around him, in the shape of his Cryptic, Vortex. It was made of bronze, iron, grain, ash, wood. He was the statue, and it spread from him. Then, he remembered. "I AM HELLBENT!" He pulled himself away, like velcro, pulling, tearing. And he was himself again. He was past the statue, though the pattern remained. He would always remember that. Let it serve as a warning if anyone else ever comes. He kept going. ~~~ This is getting better by the second. Ark loved writing this, and he couldn't stop typing. It had taken a huge amount of effort to go eat a frozen burrito and read for a while. ~~~ Hellbent had reached the Cognitive Realm. He could see the gold shield thrum, maybe fifty feet out from the mountain. The home of the gods could not be accessed through simple means. You had to go through the Physical Realm. He had been in there for who knows how long. Weeks? Months? An hour? Time has lost meaning. I'm only still going because of this form. Ruinform. He climbed, flew, wishing he had stormlight. As if in answer, two storms appeared in front of him, in miniature size. The Highstorm, and the Everstorm. “Light, or darkness? Storm or Void? Yours to decide.” Hellbent looked at them, weighing his options. He knew one would give him strength, one would give him speed. Both would spring a trap. He could feel it, deep in his bones. Now, the only question is if I can survive the traps. He still felt his soul deteriorate, and knew he had to choose, and choose fast. He thrust his hand into both at the same time. Voidlight and Stormlight washed over his body, engulfing him. Then it happened. In the place of each storm, stood a statue. One was oily black, and held a white, crystal sword, marked with a heron. One was crystal white, and held a black, oily spear, marked with a raven. They rushed him swinging. He fought, swinging his Shardblade through different forms, barely keeping them at bay. Then the spear hit the black one of them. His entire arm was sucked into it. Ah. The flaw shows up at last. He smiled fighting in between them, letting them hit each other, only surviving by the tough carapace, which was damaged. When they were gone, he smiled. They had left their weapons. He picked them up, tying them to his back with a strap he soulcast out of the air. Then he flew, surgebinding up, his speed at least ten times the old. ~~~ Ark smiled. Yes, the break improved my writing. I am glad about this. ~~~ A wall. He removed two of the three lashings, slowing. He spun, landing on it. It was white crystal, and extended all the way as far as he could see, impossibly sticking straight out. Hellbent knew it was another obstacle, made specifically to combat surgebinders. Then it came. A huge creature. A chasmfiend, but winged. It flew towards him, screeching. He lashed himself towards it, but it breathed in. Some sort of… Larkin-dragon? He fell, luckily close enough to the mountain to catch himself. Luckily, his Shardblade was summoned, and he brought Vortex up just in time to counter the attack. He cut and cut, getting deeper. Then suddenly everything went dark. Hellbent felt confusion. He was conscience. Am I dead? Then he felt the wet liquid. I’m in its stomach. I’m just lucky I’m not dead. He felt around, trying to find a way out. Then he felt it. The knife, made of the carapace of a deep sandling. We know they are immune to sand mastery. Let’s hope this dies too. It was a weak hope, but he had to try. He stabbed it into the side of the thing, and Aons lit up. Five Aons, though he only recognized Aon Sheo before it plunged into the creature. The creature screamed, writhed, then was still. He crawled out, and took a huge tooth as a trophy. The knife went on his back as well, the tooth into the indent with the three figures. The wall had a doorway now, and he walked through it. And surgebinded again. ~~~ Ark grew more and more pleased. This was going incredibly well. ~~~ Hellbent saw the gold veins, and began to walk again. The black stone was gettin veins of gold, as the rock had gotten veins of the black stone. I hope this means I will soon reach my destination. He walked, eating a turkey leg out of his pack. So much gold… so much. Then he saw it. It looked exactly like the statue of the Ascendant Warrior. And the Final Emperor! They’re both there! He walked up to them, confused, when he felt it. The tug of a leecher. He immediately stopped tapping luck, looking around warily. Ettmetal. I remember Ettmetal. Then his blood dropped, landing on the ground. And everything became pain. ~~~ NO NO NO! Ark was unhappy. He was having trouble thinking of a way out, and he didn’t want Hellbent to die. ~~~ Everything burned. A huge explosion. He remembered the healing. He started to tap, and everything soothed. I’m not dead yet. He smiled floating back down. That was easier then expected. He walked up, and pulled what he had seen out of the ground. Five Atium bracers, and a small pouch of beads. This is worth a fortune! They went on his back, and he surgebinded away. ~~~ Ark was happy. He had found an excuse. ~~~ He felt the shift, colors, everything, it was pure gold, but the shade of the ground was different, more vivid. The sky was pure white, the shield still there, but mixing in with it, a beautiful mix of gold and white, like lace on cloth. It sickened him. Deteriorating. I need to get to the top. He strode faster, and it happened. He had been reckless, and the shade hit him fast. If I wasn’t tapping gold… Luckily, his Shardblade killed it fine. He looked around, and saw thousands of Shades, all closing in on him. Well, this could be how I die. He flung to the ground, and felt pain. Chalklings? He stabbed himself through the legs, killing them, then healed. He flew up, slashing. He dropped more blood then he had in his body, only alive from healing. Shade after Shade, Chalkling after Chalkling, he kept killing. Finally he was alone. And the thing rose from the ground. A Lifeless, made from the corpse of a dragon, likely from the Free Kingdoms. It had shades spiked into its body, giving it a strange aura, and chalklings under that, shifting. It roared, rushing at him. Hellbent fought and fought, slowly killing off Shades. When he had bled another three-selfs worth, he got in, and struck, hitting it in the chest and smiting it. He reached into the hole, hoping to find another weapon. And found something strange. A seed? Why is there a seed? He attached it to his back all the same, and lashed himself again, wind whipping his face. ~~~ Ark wrote fast, only having fifteen minutes. He wanted this done. ~~~ What is that? I’ve never smelled anything like it. Hellbent changed direction towards the source of the smell, his head getting slightly groggy. He tired, his eyes drooping. And he was fast asleep. What… What happened? Hellbent looked around, finding himself in the grip of a giant plant. It was a huge form of Earth’s Venus Flytrap. It had spikes, and a enticing smell came from it’s maw. A mouth that was trying to eat him. He struggled, his Shardblade gone, trying to get out of the vine. The mouth lowered, and he realized it was hopeless. He shouted, but no one heard. And then he was gone. In a single bite, it had swallowed a Parshendi with the biggest form that had ever been, a Parshendi with huge wings. The acid filled, in, melting slowly through the carapace. I’m dead. I never expected it to be a plant, but I’m dead. Then he remembered the smell. I’m being drugged. I have to escape. He struggled, breathing heavily. Breath. Breath. Breath. He summoned his Shardblade. Sweeping around, he cut through. The head fell, and he breathed in fresh air. He flew up and grabbed a trophy, a seed pod by the head. He locked down, and saw a sapling growing in it’s roots. He grabbed it, ripping it out of the ground. Then he soulcast a leather pouch, shoving the objects into it. He had been drained of Stormlight, and it wasn’t coming back, so he trudged up the mountain. Hopefully I’m near the top. ~~~ Ark1002 breathed deeply. He was nearly at the end, the climax of this story. And he was ready. ~~~ As Hellbent climbed, he saw something new. A strange purple and green tear, or more of a warp, in space, near the top. I’M FINALLY THERE! After all of this… he wept, not sure if it was sadness, anger, or joy, or even a mixture of the three. Then he saw the creature. It was pure black, like a three dimensional shadow. It was silent, but held two blades. They were a strange silvery color, similar to Chromium, but different. The creature tossed one to him, and Hellbent caught it. They dueled, back and forth, back and forth. Hellbent by cut, but the opponent didn’t. Hellbent had trained over fourty years, and lost only to Devaan in skill. Devaan was hundreds of years old. Hellbent knew he had to do something risky. So he tapped the rest of his luck and threw the sword. It stabbed into the opponent, who seemed to… deflate. And it was gone, leaving only the two swords. And an egg. What the- He picked up the swords, and added them to his back, then picked up the egg, confused. Not willing to waste time, he stuffed it in the bag. Then he walked forward, looking carefully at the ripple in space-time. It was like when the fourth wall was broken- he winced, looking carefully around. And to his surprise found nothing. Not a single mime, not a break. It really is… a stable break in the fourth wall. He touched it, and everything changed. ~~~ Ark1002. That was his name. But he felt a pull. He was also Hellbent. They merged. ~~~ Hellbent ascended. He screamed, remaking himself, as he was filled with energy. Code flew into him, filling him up to the tips of his wings, and down to the claws on his feet. He screamed, his mind filled with new concepts. Their world was different, filled with different basins. At the bottom of one, it reached his universe. A… FFRP? Then it went up to a different realm, the 17th shard. And then, a huge plane, a different reality. Google. What is a google? And then he conceived that other pieces of google were like his, reaching into RPs. Then it hit him. CODE! Hellbent screamed, cried, everything flowing out of him. Then he reached out, and pulled, making himself hole again. And he entered the realm of the gods. ~~~ Hellbent felt power flow into him, the power of gods. He looked around, and saw gods. Each god sponsored someone, often multiple. He saw threads connecting to people he knew, and people he did not. Some reached into the afterlife, which he now knew of. But more exiting. The Fourth Realm. There is FOUR realms! He looked around, and saw he was at the bottom of a basin. If he strained, he could see something he could not understand. 1s and 0s, all green on black, stretching endlessly in place of a sky. He looked away, looking around. He saw with a start that no god had a string linked to him. Am I… Not sponsored? The gods all stared at him. They had strange looks on their faces. “I AM HERE FOR STABILITY! I NEED TO BE FIXED!” The gods looked at him, pity on their faces. One smiled. “Ark, what would you have us do? Give him the Alleyshards? Or even just one Alleyshard?” Hellbent felt words come out of his mouth, words that were not his own. “Yes, that is exactly what I want.” They discussed, and came to a decision. They would vote. The Alleyshards came from the ground, three of them. A voice echoed through the halls. “Only the worthy may take one. They will fight demons and their own mind, coming through the fourth wall. But they must know what they could hold. The first is the Eye of the Oracle. This will make them a prophet, able to protect the people of the Alley by telling them predictions of the future, warning of important events to come. The second is the Blade of the Champion. This will make them a warrior, a warrior who will protect the people of the Alley through blood, sweat, and tears, who will kill any who come against the good of the people, and unite the world. The third is the Horn of the Herald. This will make them are herald, who can call us into battle in times of need. He will be untouchable even by Voidus, immune to all godmodding. In the time of ultimate stress, he will shatter the fourth wall, bringing gods into the world with a blow of his horn. Now, know, if you give them not a shard, they will be less powerful, yes, but they will become a force of true evil the likes of which this world has never known, and hopefully never will.” Hellbent was silent. “Will these fix me? Mend my broken spiritweb?” The gods had varied reactions to the message, ranging from smiles to frowns to disbelief. Their leader spoke. “Yes, they will, each in it’s own way. The Eye of the Oracle hold a bit of Preservation, thus will stabilize you. The Blade of the Champion will reroute your ruin, making you ruin for good, no longer destroying yourself. The Horn of the Herald will destroy the ruin entirely. We have a vision, given to us, of what he will be like as a person depending on the choise. We must choose wisely, as our fate, as well as the rest of the Alleyverse, depends on it. Here you are." A oracle of fire, but we feel a sense of good. A warrior, deadly to his enemies, bringing fire, but we feel a sense of good. A herald with blades of fire, hooded, mysterious, but we feel a sense of good. A demon of destruction, bringing fire and death with him, giving them freely, we feel a sense of evil never known from this one. “Now, we vote."
