  1. I've been wondering for a while why each Knight Radiant order shares a specific surge with a different order. While this could be a coincidence I think it's more likely that an order's ideal is shaped by the combination of its surges and its respective theme. For example, truthwatchers and lightweavers both are centered on truth but have different views on them (societal truth and personal truth). I believe that these different perspectives on truth are changed by the secondary surge each order possesses and it changes how the order views truth. This could theoretically help us understand the other orders better if we can isolate each surges "theme" and then predict how these themes mix together. For example, if we could figure out the themes of abrasion and progression (edgedancer) then we could figure out the themes of abrasion and division (dustbringer) I tried to create an ideal of some kind for each surge and want to know y'alls thoughts. Abrasion - Willpower? (This is kind of a shot in the dark, willshapers need a strong will for their powers and edgedancers need a strong will or commitment to care for those easily ignored) Adhesion - Connection (Dalinar's theme of uniting and the tight-knit squads windrunners form) Cohesion - Agency (willshapers focus on free will and stonewards choose to become dependable?) Gravitation - Honor Illumination - truth Progression -selflessness Transformation - self-improvement (Jasnah focuses on self improvement and the truths lightweavers reveal help them improve) Transportation - exploration Tension? Definitely needs some polish but I think there is something there. What do you think and are there any suggestions?
  2. This clan is for Stormlight Archive fans who are Dustbringers--if you don't know if you are or not, take the quiz here: https://www.brandonsanderson.com/the-ten-orders-of-knights-radiant/. This guild will focus on the Stormlight Archive, not other series' unless it has a direct relationship to the topic that we are talking about. Thanks!
  3. So, I don't know if this has been thought of before, but I have had a theory for some time that we will eventually see more orders of the Knight Radiants-or at least sub-orders. Let me explain-we know that surgebinding is a result of Honor and Cultivation and that worlds with a invested shard have a magic system based at least partly off of the shard. Odium has now started investing himself more and more into Roshar and we've seen the effects in the Fused and voidbinding. Renarin, has bonded a spren corrupted by Odium and has manifested new variations (hence the sub-orders) on the original truthwatcher abilities. He is still a truthwatcher in that he accesses the same surges, he just manifests them in new and different ways. What are your guys's thoughts on this? Do you think that we could see sub-orders of the original Radiant orders?
  4. From the album: Bored Doodles

As an honorary Elsecaller, I thought I’d try to draw the Elsecaller glyph. I’m just going to say how glad I am to not be a woman on Roshar. Those things are storming hard to draw. And to memorize them no less.
  5. Imagine for a second what would happen if a Forger became Radiant or if a Radiant learned Forgery. Ignoring obvious obstacles (Forgery not working off of Sel, physical inability for a Radiant and their spren to leave Roshar, etc), this could be quite powerful. Most of the time, a Forger would have to spend a while physically making a soulstamp, but a Radiant far enough in their oaths could just near-instantly summon their spren in the form of a soulstamp. They would have to spend some time perfecting the shape, but this is still much easier than meticulously carving the exact right form where the penalty for failure is starting over from scratch. The only other thing they'd need is ink, which probably wouldn't be too hard to come by. (As a side note, which Radiant order would be the best suited for Forgery? I'm thinking Lightweavers would be the best, with most of the others okay with it depending on the circumstances, and Skybreakers taking roughly the same view as the Rose Empire's government.)
  6. The next in my series of radiant knight sharbearers. This time it is an edgedancer. For the edgedancer I wanted something sleek and sharp, while still retaining the bulk and power of the official shardplate artwork. I also wanted to incorporate some plant-life and reptilian designs as well. I am quite pleased with the end result.
  7. Hello! I took the source code of the quiz from Mr. Sando's website and recompiled it into an excel sheet. You can use this to play around with the results and see how different questions affect which order. This also revealed some interesting information, such as the fact that there are 3 questions referenced in the source that don't appear on the final quiz. You can also see what the "correct" answer is for each order, which is what the quiz uses to judge how close to each order you are. All the logic in this sheet uses the exact logic from the webpage, which the more astute of you can tell that there are ways to "break" the quiz. Such as getting up to -50% for some orders when it should be more like 150%. Have fun with it! Radiant Quiz Deconstruction.xlsx
  8. So I’ve been bouncing this idea around for a while, and finally decided to type it up. So we know that Pattern bonded Shallan when she was younger, to the point that she could summon her shardblade (to kill her mum). After this she regresses somehow, possibly due to her self-forgetting stuff. Another example we know much less about is Tien, Kaladin’s younger brother. We don’t know a lot about what he did in Amaram’s army, but it is implied that he had reached a point in his Ideals that caught the attention of the Skybreakers enough that Nale felt he needed to be eliminated. I personally think he was at the first Ideal, but have little proof to back that up. So: what are the common threads in these two young lives? My theory: not their own lies, but the lies of those around them. We know that (Pattern at least) Cryptics are very curious about humans. Lyrin was hiding the gem theft, and we know that this caused a lot of strife in Hearthstone. Shallan’s mother was involved somehow with the Skybreakers before her death, and Lin was dealing with political issues (or was that just after Shallan’s mum died?) as well as dealing with debts. Also maybe the Ghostbloods. We know that Pattern is interested in the lies of people besides Shallan. Shallan and Tien are both “the light” of their respective households. The Lightweavers have been described as the “spiritual sustainers” of the Radiants. They are both artistic, and very curious about the world around them. If Cryptics are the spren of natural forces and the laws of nature, the interests of the spren and the knight would align in this. A few other parallels I don’t think are relevant: Shallan and Tien each have depressed older brothers. They are both interested in the creatures around them. They like gentle rains. Please point out anything that I’ve missed!
  9. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1DCUT3ozq7kIJdfvZtvPn64MnVy0ABoTRsOaPGp7FO_Y/edit I've actually posted this class before but it wasn't finished and the topic was in the wrong subforum. I have finished all the features of the class (with a few exceptions). All that's missing is the narrative elements. If you don't play D&D or some other tabletop RPG this won't interest you and you should go look at something else. The class is missing something, however. Bondsmiths are just really weird. Once we learn more about the sibling I'll probably turn Bondsmith into its own class with the 3 spren being the subclasses. If you want to play as a Bonsmith now just take the cohesion and tension surges and ad another Bonsmith themed feature at level 10. All feedback is welcome and encouraged. This is just a rough draft so I'm very open to changes. Thanks! (Tell me if you can't access the document)
  10. Ok, so bear with me on this one. Something has been bothering me, like many who read Oathbringer, ever since Odium said "We killed you." Like many Stormlight fans, I have been mentally (and literally) screaming "What do you mean by WE!" And anyway I've done some thinking, and I think that Unity, instead of a new Shard, as many have theorized, is actually and old Shard that used to live on Roshar. A Shard that was (presumably) killed by Odium and ((possibly Honor?)) (((Working together?))) There is a little possible evidence for this. In the death rattles, one of them goes like "Three of Sixteen ruled, now the broken one reigns" or something like that. Feel free to correct that. Anyway, the way that is worded makes it seem like Odium, the broken one, is not in that original three. Also, since we know there are 3 god-spren--the Storm dad, Nightwatcher, and the Sibling, that leads me to believe that there used to be 3 Shards other than Odium, since it doesn't make sense to me that a Knight Raidiant would bond to a spren of Odium, or that Cultivation or Honor would have two god-spren. That other Shard, Unity, was not liked by Honor or Cultivation or any other Shard. Which makes sense, because they might feel threatened by the fact that he might try to Unite the Shards back into Adonalsium or something. I'm thinking that the Cryptics might be spren of Unity, which is why nobody likes them. It also just makes sense, because math and lies don't really make sense as belonging to Honor or Cultivation, but I can see Unity liking the fact that math is a unifying principle of the universe or something like that. Also, it would make sense because the Dawn Cities are all math based, and they are linked the Uthirthiru in some way ( I think theres a line about the strata being similar? And they both are grown out of rock? Feel free to check that.) And we know that the sibling was related to the tower city as well. So, if the Sibling is a spren of Unity, it all works out. Honor or Cultivation (or both) wanted to get rid of him, but couldn't due to limitation based on their Shard Intent. Neither of them could kill Unity, so they invited Odium, knowing his violent reputation, to come on over to Roshar so he could take care of Unity. That also explains why Odium was allowed onto Roshar on the first place, because I feel like two Shards working together could have blocked him from coming there, if they so wished. Anyway, Odium splintered Unity (possibly with help from one or more of the other Shards) and decided to stay. Eventually, he also splintered Honor, and Cultivation went into hiding. A part of Unity survived, and may have been that voice that's been guiding Dalinar since Book One. That voice seems really distinct from the Stormfather, and I think he once even said so in Oathbringer that he wasn't talking when Dalinar heard the "Unite them" voice. The light that Dalinar feels at the end of books Two and Three may also be the effects of Unity. Dalinar was able to briefly hold whatever is left of Unity, which allowed him to summon the Perpendicularity and all that fun stuff at the end of Book 3. I think that as the books progress, we will only keep on seeing how Unity is actually separate, and wants to be revived. Some odd bits: The splintering might have been the Scouring of Aimia. The Aimians that are a bunch of cremlings seem like something that Unity might have created or liked (since it's a bunch of cremlings unified into one creature) and he might have lived in Aimia. The Unmade might be corrupted Splinters of Unity. I don't think that Odium could have nine relatively large spren of himself and still remain as powerful as he is, so I think he corrupted the Splinters of Unity after he killed him, and those became the Unmade. Obviously, it isn't a perfect theory. And if you've made it to the bottom, congrats on somehow getting through all my disorganized thoughts. Anyway, I want to know what you think, so please feel free to share your thoughts on my theory!
  11. So wait! Our heroes need lots of Knights Radiant? Taravangian has means of reducing the spren available to bond potential Knights? Luckily Mr. T is a trustworthy ally, not a traitor making private arrangements with Odium. Otherwise I might be worried. I'm sure it's just a random bit of world-building and not a detail that will turn out to be relevant later. Are these spren that allow manipulation of Gravity, Adhesion, Tension? I imagine the realmatic scholars among us can figure out what orders' spren is involved. I look forward to learning from the responses.
  12. I love D&D and I love SA so recently I decided to try combining them. This is a partially completed class that will hopefully end up having all 10 orders. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1DCUT3ozq7kIJdfvZtvPn64MnVy0ABoTRsOaPGp7FO_Y/edit?usp=sharing Enjoy!
  13. I swear this was intended to be just a random portrait but several friends told me it reminds them of Shallan so I roll with itP.S I know she is supposed to have blue eyes

The gems are printed on edible paper, placed on fondant octagons. I used the octagons to help represent the planes of cut gemstones, which as fans know, will hold more Stormlight. Glyphs on the gemstones are pulled from art by Awesomeness Summoned on the 17th Shard. http://www.17thshard.com/forum/gallery/image/339-gemstones/ The smokestone image came from the chart created by libdragon on the 17th Shard from Isaac’s base image of the Double Eye. http://www.17thshard.com/forum/gallery/image/426-surges-and-order-guide/

  15. Hey! Just curious what order you guys would be and why. I would personally probably be a Willshaper. Adventurous and Resolute both apply very well to me. I am determined and love to explore. I have a greenbelt behind my house and I will go in there and just look around. In general I just love discovery. From finding something cool in nature, to new information. I'm very determined, and if I put my mind to something I wont stop until it's done. So, tell me which you'd be.

  17. So in one of the recent Q&As for the Firefight release, Peter made a sly post about how there's a character in the Stormlight Archive who he guessed correctly, without external help, was going to eventually become a Knight Radiant, and that he hadn't seen much talk about them in particular on this site. It got me to thinking what characters I think have enough evidence to be considered, that no one has talked about much prior to his post. After thinking about it for a few days, I came across Sebarial. Oh how I love Sebarial. In snooping around for info in the book, I came across two passages. The first is in Chapter 63. "Actually, she hadn't been to visit Sebarial's ardents very often either -- though when she had gone, she'd found them surprisingly devout, considering who owned them" - Words of Radiance, Kindle edition, page 759 The second is in Chapter 81. "Teleb was supporting them with some of Sebarial's troops, who were surprisingly good. The man himself was practically useless in battle, but he knew how to hire the right people -- and that had always been his genius." - Words of Radiance, Kindle edition, page 984. Both of these passages tell of Sebarial as a leader. Though he often comes off as obnoxious and apathetic, he is very serious about his people. This is evident in his warcamp and it's construction, as well as his economic policy and foresight. These two passages show that Sebarial pays attention to who he hires for various jobs. He wants the best for his people, as any good leader does. Particularly when you take into account that Sebarial has a strong military force, when he himself despises war, and he avoids it whenever he can. So what does this mean? Well, as the title to this thread says, it means I think Sebarial is Knight Radiant material, specifically Bondsmith material. Bondsmiths are leaders, and particularly effective ones, so Sebarial fits right in. But what of his spren? Well, Dalinar bonded the Stormfather. Many people on here seem to be thinking that Bondsmiths had such low numbers because they each bonded special spren, such as the Stormfather and his ilk. Well, that allows Sebarial to fit in too! Daliner is a very honorable leader, leading by example and such. He bonded the Stormfather, a special spren with ties to Honor. I think Sebarial will bond a spren tied to Cultivation, as he leads in a much more cultivating way. He cultivated his warcamp so that his people could live in relative comfort. He cultivated his employees so that his people would have the best services. He cultivated his economic policy to ensure his camp would see plenty of cash flow. ultimately, he has cultivated life for his people. No good theory, though, is complete without it's share of doubts. Mine come in the unlikely hood of two Bondsmiths being so close to each other. Considering how small their numbers, in comparison to the other orders, and how large Roshar is, it strikes me as odd that two would appear so near each other. In addition, outside of the Nightwatcher (possibly), we have yet to be introduced to a spren similar to the Stormfather which corresponds to Cultivation. If it is the Nightwatcher, what will cause Sebarial to go to her? Now, I'm not sure if that is who Peter was talking about, and I have seen people mention it since his post, but I didn't see anything about it before he did. EDIT: Due to discussion below, I've changed my mind. I now think Sebarial will become a Willshaper. For reasons, see ensuing discussion.
  18. With all that we have read from the chapter/interlude releases, it seems like spren and future Radiants are coming out the wahzoo! So my question is, based on the Divine Attributes that Knight Radiants exhibit and the idea that there is usually some sort of struggle with one or both of the attributes, who do you think has the right stuff to be one of the lustrous heroes? Or, who do you want to be one? I figure Moash would make a good Dustbringer since he is very Brave but I would say he definitely has to work on being Obedient. We know Renarin has a spren somewhere, so he might be a Just person who really needs to work on his Confidence. I foresee a future Skybreaker in the works. I would love to see Lopen become a Radiant. Just think of all the things that would come out of his mouth! I think he has the potential for a Lightweaver. Sure he is not Creative in the same way as Shallan, but the things he says hint for me a creative mind in his words. And maybe he hasn't been quite honest with how he lost his arm or why he was sent to the bridge crews. So who would you choose? I apologize if this has been done before.
