Zane was not Mad. The longer he stayed in Luthadel, the more certain he became that God was not a broken part of his head. God noticed people before he did sometimes, and knew things he didn’t. No one else could hear God, but God couldn’t hear his thoughts. God had wanted him to kill everyone he had ever seen, except Vin. Zane hadn’t know who Vin was when he first saw her, and had actually been looking forward to a proper challenge with another Mistborn when his father’s army had marched on Luthadel. But he had seen her, and had waited for the order, either from his father or from God, and neither had said a word about her. That night, Zane had left the camp and explored Luthadel. He looked for as many new people as he could, looked at as many people as possible, and God had told him to kill each one of them without fail. He had asked God about it, and God had stayed silent. God never remarked on Vin. He was scared of her. Zane worked hard to earn her favour. He murdered Cett’s minions, he demonstrated that he cared deeply about the things she cared about, he proved himself stronger in every way than his half brother, and finally she had come with him. He was timid, afraid of driving her away. He knew how others saw him, called him Zane the Mad. He worked hard to appear Sane and normal in all his dealings with her. Everything he did was strictly rational, everything he did was calm and controlled. He was not a savage, though he had been once. He was not insane, though others said otherwise. He was not a monster, though he wasn’t sure if anyone truly was. As the two of them carefully hunted down and killed Lekal’s supporters, he searched through records and lore, looking for anything that could be causing the voice in his head. God discouraged him constantly, but he persevered. With Vin’s help, he continued. And then a new voice spoke in his head, but Vin heard it too. The enemy speaks to those whose soul is pierced by Metal. Vin, do not trust those with spikes. And finally, Zane understood. “Somehow, Kelsier has become what the Skaa say he is, a god of some sort.” Vin was pacing back and forth on the secluded rooftop. “He can speak to those of us who have been hemalurgic spikes, like the inquisitors do.” She brushed the earring she had worn for as long as he had know her. “But he isn’t the only one who knows how.” She hesitated, glancing from him to her hands. “I think my brother Reen can as well. I’ve heard his voice ever since he abandoned me, and I know he died soon afterwards.” Zane rubbed his back, feeling at the thick circle of Steel protruding from his Spine. “Who died to make your Earring?” Vin shrugged. “Reen always told me that it was my sister. He found me covered in blood, my mother had killed her and given me my earring and proclaimed me queen of the world. Yours?” “I don’t know. I’ve always had it, and my father told me to ignore it. They tried to remove it once, and I nearly died. Apparently that it was caused me to Snap.” He didn’t remember it, but also didn’t remember ever not having Allomancy.” I Anointed you my Priest Zane. I knew you would be a powerful servant. He didn’t flinch at the voice. It too had been with him his whole life. And apparently the two were connected. “If we remove our Spikes, the Dead won’t be able to control us. Our Demons won’t be able to talk to us.” Vin nodded, coming to stand before him. You will lose a great deal of your power if you do. I gave you your power to serve me Zane! “I am a free man, and you are not God!” He snarled out to the side. Vin stepped back, her hands reflexively going towards her daggers. He wanted to be free of this. She could save him. This was how, this was how he could be free of God forever. “Vin, please, I need you to remove my Spike. I don’t want to hear the voices.” “We’re being hunted Zane, if we do it now, we could very well be caught without the ability to flee.” Listen to her Zane! Hunt them all down and Kill them first! That is why you were born! “No!” She shrunk down away from herself, “No, Vin, please that wasn’t at you, I, please I’m sorry.” He held out his hands to her. “Please Vin, I can’t stand it anymore, take it out of me.” NO! Zane didn’t react this time, and Vin slowly stepped forward. “Alright. Sit down and take your shirt off.” Don’t do this Zane! Zane turned around, and slowly knelt down. This is a terrible idea, you will die! He grabbed the bottom of his shirt and pulled it off above his head. Very few people had ever seen his spike, and none had had a positive reaction to it. Your only purpose in life is to Kill Zane, you are not even a man! He felt Vin’s hand brush down his spine, around the spike, and come to a stop. “This will hurt Zane.” You will be less than everyone if you do this! Your powers will be gone! You will be a wretched human again! Vin gripped his spike. He burned Bronze and felt the pewter pulses coming from her. He burned Pewter, and prepared to burn Duraluminum. “I’m ready.” You are Not! “Okay.” Zane gripped the edge of the roof, and felt Vin burn Duralumin. She yanked. NO! Zane screamed. He burned Duralumin and went through all of his pewter in a flash. The pain all left him, but the hole remained, barely healed at all. He fell forward, and Vin was at his side. She pressed something up to his lips, and he felt pewter dust begin to slide down his throat. He desperately burned it up as it reached his stomach, and the pain receded. “Are you there God?” He waited. Vin stared at him anxiously. No voice. He began to laugh, his whole body shaking with pain, and joy. Sobs wracked him as for the first time, he felt whole. He felt the blood spilling from the hole in his body, but Vin began to wrap a bandage around him. He burned Tin. Everything felt so new. Like the end of an Ashfall. Everything was brighter. Vin’s touch was softer. The stone underneath him was more solid. The voices from the floor below were more united. Oh. “Vin, below us.” He looked over his shoulder at her. Her head was cocked, and her beautiful hair streamed to one side. “I hear them. Can you stand?” Zane grabbed her shoulder for support, and tried to pull himself up. His legs gave way, and he fell to the floor. “Urgh, no. I’ll pull myself along.” The door on the far end of the roof slammed open, and 5 figures, clad in leather and holding thick wooden shields and canes strode out onto the roof. Vin cursed, and pointed up and too their left. “There’s an anchor up there. Let’s go.” She shot away, pulling on Iron. Zane burned Iron, found the anchor, and pulled. He barely got half his body off the floor before he collapsed a foot further than he had been. He blinked, and tried again, flaring his Iron. The Hazekillers were running towards him now. “Zane! Come on!” “I can’t Vin!” He flared his Iron harder, and dragged himself all the way to the end of the roof, smashing his barely responding body into the ramparts. Vin landed in front of him, daggers out. “Riot them then. Make them afraid. I’ll take them.” He could hear the tremors in her voice. More Hazekillers and soldiers were still coming out the far door. There were close to 2 dozen already spreading out around the two of them. Zane smiled. It felt good to smile. And it was an entirely new good. It wasn’t the thrill of an upcoming battle, but the joy of a coming end. “No, Vin, leave. Get to Terris. Thank you for everything.” She didn’t look at him. “I won’t abandon you. I’ve been on both sides of that far too often.” He could hear the tears coming. Zane knew that not all his power came from the Spike. He was better than that. Always had been. And Vin was still wearing her metals. He still had Steel. He inhaled, and then burned it, flared it, ignited it all at once, and pushed. She was above him, and before him, at a perfect angle. She yelped once as he flung her airborne, far from him, far from the earth that didn’t deserve her. Far enough away that she wouldn’t be able to die trying to protect him. His smile never faded as the Hazekillers came forward. “Goodbye, Vin,” he whispered, and the ring closed. _Stick_ was lynched! She was Zane the Unstable Mistborn! MR 14: The Canim Fury You are all legionnaires in the First Aleran. Since you were small, like all Alerans, you have been able to fury craft. For some, your skills have never progressed fair enough to manifest more than a basic fury. For others, you have trained for years, and have controls of furies enough to rival a Lord. When you were recruited for the First Aleran, you never expected see any real combat. But then the Canim invaded, and the First Aleran was caught in the middle of a war. Your half-century was sent behind enemy lines to learn what you could of enemy movements, and to find opportunity to hinder their forces. You have uncovered some information that Captain Scipio must get as soon as possible, but your enemy has discovered your presence. Not everyone made it out of the ambush they laid for you, and now you're trapped behind enemy lines, being hunted mercilessly. Making the most of your furycrafting, you were able to evade their initial chase, and have gained somewhat of a lead on them, but the path you need to take back is not going to be easy... The Rules: Cycles will be 48 hour combined Day-Night cycles. There are two factions: Those Loyal to Captain Scipio, and Traitors seeking to bring down Captain Scipio. The traitors do not want the Captain to receive the intelligence gathered, and so their goal is to stop those Loyal from reaching the Captain at all costs, while still surviving to report the intelligence to their superiors. -The Loyalists win once all of the Traitors are dead. -The Traitors win if they outnumber the Loyalists. -If neither side has claimed victory by the conclusion of the 8th cycle , both sides lose (their hunters catch up to them before they reach safety), unless a player scouts on the last cycle, in which the scouts team wins. Furycrafting: There are 6 different types of furycrafting: Fire, Water, Earth, Air, Metal, and Wood. Everyone has different abilities in fury crafting, and this differences are represented by 3 tiers. Each type of furycrafting has 3 tiers, each which has its own ability. Higher tiers have access to the abilities of the lower tiers. The abilities are as follows: When there’s a conflict between two things (tied lynch, multiple action/vote redirects on the same player each trying to shift to different players), the result will be decided by a coin flip. Players are able to make 2 actions per cycle. Each tier counts as a separate action. You cannot use the same action twice. Only players with Water or Windcrafting can open PM's. PM's can be made at any point during a cycle, up to the players limit. PM's are between you and one other player. Remember to include Elbereth and I in all PM's created. Label the type of crafting used in the PM title. For example: "MR14 Hael-Elb (Water)" or "MR14 Elb-Alv (Wind)". PM's remain open for 2 cycles (the one in which it is opened, and the next) before being closed, unless roleblocked or redirected. PM spies get both sides of the conversations their target was included in, but not the name of the other players in the conversations. The Traitors have a faction kill, and a doc to collaborate in. The types of kills will be differentiated in the writeup (i.e. Lynch, Traitor, Wood, Fire, Metal, Earth) Order of Actions: > Roleblocks/Redirects (W1, W2, W3, E1) > Scouting (E3) > Vote changes (F1) > Lynch > Protects (E2, M1, M3) > Kills (Traitor kill, F2, F3, M2, Water3) > Scans/Spying (A2, Water2, A3) If Person A blocks Person B, and Person B was blocking Person C, Person A block Person B’s roleblock, so Person A’s actions go through. Provided a redirect isn’t blocked or redirected, it happens before roleblocks. If two players attempt to redirect the same action(s), a higher tier gets priority, otherwise a coin flip decides the result. Players can have more than one type of furycrafting, but every player will have at least one which will be designated their primary furycrafting. Each player's primary furycrafting will be public knowledge. Note that this will be the type of furycrafting, rather than what tier. Players with a Tier 3 fury can designate an heir. This does not take up an action, nor does it need to be announced publicly. Upon their death, their fury passes to their heir. If no heir is named, a recipient will be randomly chosen. The recipient will gain a Tier 2 version of the fury. Players who are inactive for 48 hours will be 'left behind', and killed. For the purposes of this game, I am defining inactivity as not making any game relevant posts. Now I realize this is a reasonably strict filter, but I understand that sometimes life happens, and if you let me know, I'll make arrangements. You can post in thread, or send me a PM. To Shatter a Shard Jain shivered in the corner of his cell, his eyes squeezed shut to block out the world. A World devoid of Mercy. He didn’t know how long he’d been in The Cellar. All he knew was what Hoid told him, and the man took a perverse delight in tormenting him. There was a clang, as the cell door opened. Light fell on his eyelids, and he huddled deeper into the corner. Light meant that Hoid was back. His tormentor. What would it be this time? Another illusion of freedom? Some succulent meal that would turn to ash as soon as he partook of it? Or something new? A hand grabbed him by the neck, and pulled him upright. Ah, so it was to be a beating then. “Stand up boy. I’m freeing you.” Jain blinked his eyes open, and looked at his tormentor. Hoid looked regretful, an expression he had never seen before. He tried to respond, but only coughed weakly, and tried again. “I, I can’t.” Warmth Enveloped his body, and he suddenly felt better than he had in ages. A confident, fatherly voice sounded in his Ear. “Don’t worry Jain, Hoid isn’t going to hurt you anymore. We need your help. Odium has returned to a new Host. Now Rise.” He blinked again, then rose one foot. He pressed it against the stone floor and pushed. Hoid let go of his neck, and the prisoner stood on his own for the first time since his Panda’s death. His jailer was looking towards the door, so Jain followed Hoid's gaze to see Leif, the Holder of Endowment. “Thank you Sir. Why do you need me?” “After the last time Odium struck, we three are the only ones without hatred in our hearts. We three are the only ones to be trusted. Even the other Shards feel and act on his Hatred. We must find the Dread Lord and Destroy him, before he can destroy us. Furthermore, you were once Odium's own Slave. You know his actions and thoughts better than any other. Will you join us Jain?” “Of course.” \/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/ Ash, holder of Odium and Lord of Hatred, watched as the Seventeenth Shard gathered. The last time they had gathered in such numbers, they had been hunting his predecessor. For them to be gathering again spoke of a momentous event. Could it be that they had learned of his revival? Impossible. The only ones who knew were Devotion and Survival, and they would never betray him. A pillar of Golden Light came down from the heavens, interrupting Ash’s thoughts. A Pale Shin man stepped out and surveyed the crowd. He was followed by two Lifeless, carrying Corpses. The man spoke quietly, and the Lifeless dropped their loads on the ground. The crowd gasped as they saw their faces. Ash just frowned. Cleo and Kae, Shardholders of Devotion. It looked like they did know he was back. At least he could be more active in killing now, rather than arranging accidents. The Shin man raised his hands for silence. “Fellow Sharders, these two betrayed us. They have collaborated with others, to bring Odium back.” He paused as the crowd started chattering fearfully. “We were lucky enough to have captured them before they could cause too much Hatred, and their Shard has been given to a new bearer, but we don’t know who else is working for Odium. He has undoubtedly infiltrated us again, along with his champions. So, who among you are willing to help capture them?” Ash slid back through the crowd as people began to raise their hands in service. Luckily no one knew him in this current identity, so he could sign up as someone completely new, and no one would ever know. He signaled to the others in the crowd he knew, those few who had sworn their loyalty to him. They nodded, and rose their hands in service as well. Together, they would make the Seventeenth Shard tear itself apart, just like last time. Sign ups for Long Game 14 Have begun! Rules Signups will close on Sunday the 30th of August, at 9:00pm PST.
