  1. I usually have an image of each character in my mind, but every now and then, a character comes along that I just can't form a coherent image of, or at least, a coherent image of that matches the descriptions in the books. Dalinar Kholin I have a little trouble imagining. I have a worse time imagining Jonathan Phaedrus, aka Prof, from Brandon Sanderson's Reckoners series. Can y'all share fanart of Dalinar or Prof that fits with the books' description and you think matches the personality of the character? Or could you share photos of actors or other people who you think resemble one of those characters? I would appreciate it.
  2. From the album: Stormlight Character Paintings

I don't know how consistent I'm being with my Dalinars, but anyway... I tried my hand at a younger version of him - I'm worried he's a bit of a pretty boy here, so I'm going to pretend it's because of his youth, heh. Also, I didn't know how to create an album before and have no idea if it's possible to move my previous posts here :/
  3. At 9:40 in this video Ethan Klein loosely quotes Dalinar kholin. Coincidence? What do y’all think? (no poltical discussion here please, just curious if y’all think Ethan reads Brandon Sanderson)
  4. From the album: Stormlight Character Paintings

It's been forever since I last did any SA art (nearly a year, holy crap), and I finally got around to doing more! I'd meant to try drawing some other characters but ended up going back to my comfort zone, heh. This is another military-style Dalinar portrait, based off of a couple of existing ones I happened upon. (I envisioned this as something Dalinar "I-don't-do-politics" Kholin was forced into dressing up and posing for, probably by Navani) I kept his face pretty much how I had him before, with Polynesian, East/South Asian, Middle Eastern and Native American refs all mashed together. Maybe he doesn't look wrecked enough but we can pretend that the painter (me) idealized him a bit. I have no idea how to do costume design, so this was totally done on the fly and not super creative, and probably too typically Western. It's also been a while since I've read the books so I don't trust my memory of any smaller details... but anyways, sorry for rambling, feedback is appreciated as always! Hopefully I'll get back into the swing of doing SA fanart especially with RoW coming soon, but who knows with my attention span :')
  5. From the album: InfernalSquid - Stormlight

My headcanon of a slightly younger Dalinar, under the influence of the Thrill. I realize that he does not have a beard, but hey - he does look good in it. For the Odium in the constellations, I used botanicaxu's art of Odium - credits go to them for that part (ONLY).
  6. Oathbringer Spoilers Below! I was just thinking recently about how Adolin was able to murder Sadeas and get away with it without too much suspicion in Oathbringer and I found myself thinking: How would you get away with murder in Roshar? Specifically how would you get away Sadeas's murder in Roshar. Would you frame someone? Take Adolin's route and get involved with the investigation? Just curious to see what people have to say!
  7. Just looking for friends to talk and debate about the world of Roshar. I'm planning on reading all of Sanderson's work but I've only read Stormlight Archive so far. I audible while I'm at work so I don't have anyone else to talk to about the books I listen to and I'm sick of not being able to yarn after something life changing happens at the end of a chapter ha-ha.
  8. From the album: Let me have the pain, Dalinar.

“Let me have the pain, Dalinar,” Odium said. “Give it to me, and never feel guilty again.” “No.” Dalinar hugged The Way of Kings close. “No. I can’t.” Oathbringer chapter 118 Dalinar and Odium made some of my fave parts of Oathbringer!! Also, I can't draw hands.
  9. From the album: In this house we respect Dalinar Kholin

yo Navani doesn't have to 'look thirty' to be beautiful and elegant, she can do that all by her 50 yo' self anyway I love imagining them as a couple just bein’ slobs around each other, Navani rarely covering her safehand, Dalinar lazing in bed sometimes, good rust.
  10. So, when Dalinar goes to Vedenar the smoke/Thrill give him an anxiety attack and does his best to escape. Obviously he has no sword, and therefore... This thing makes the Oathgate work. Now, what the hell was it? A manifestation of the Stormfather? Did Dalinar pull a Rand and use the enemy's power? Something else?
  11. From the album: In this house we respect Dalinar Kholin

“What is a man’s life worth?” Dalinar asked softly.“The slavemasters say one is worth about two emerald broams,” Kaladin said, frowning.“And what do you say?”“A life is priceless,” he said immediately, quoting his father.Dalinar smiled, wrinkle lines extending from the corners of his eyes.“Coincidentally, that is the exact value of a Shardblade. So today, you and your men sacrificed to buy me twenty-six hundred priceless lives. And all I had to repay you with was a single priceless sword. I call that a bargain.”“You really think it was a good trade, don’t you?” Kaladin said, amazed.Dalinar smiled in a way that seemed strikingly paternal. I got emotions and nowhere to put um
  12. Apologies if this has been brought up elsewhere, I haven't seen it Anybody else here thinks that now that Dalinar is bonded to the Stormfather/married to Navani, some of his memories may start to come back? This really doesn't have any factual basis in the text, except the fact that I personally believe the flashbacks we get would be somewhat cheapened if only the readers knew what happened and Dalinar were still missing large chuncks of his own story. His arc is not about memories in the same way Shallan is, but I think reconciling yourself with who you used to be (pre 'becoming broken') is an important step in the progression of any Radiants, if not for strictly Radiant-y reasons then because it makes for a more impactful climax to the flashback story. Even Kaladin had a moment where he flashed back to Tien's death before speaking the Second Ideal, and he'd remembered his brother's death all along. If Shshsh's death was such a pivotal moment in Dalinar's character development as it's looking like it could be, then it's important he remembers what happened so he can face the person he used to be. There's also Navani: the woman Dalinar loves, a woman he's always loved. He doesn't even account for the years when he was married to another woman, someone whom by all account fit him very well and whom he also loved. It's like she'd never existed; this makes his feelings for Navani that much stronger, because as things stand she is the only woman Dalinar can remember loving, from the time he was in his late teens to his fifties. I'm not seeing they should go through a rough patch, but Dalinar remembering some things about his first wife would probably put his relationship with Navani into prospective and he'd need to get used to that. Also, whatever happened when Shshsh died is likely to influence his relationship with his sons as well, to an extent. On the downside: I know it's kind of a hard sell that somehow the Stormfather would be able to 'counter' the influence of the Nighwatcher, since she is of Cultivation and probably just as powerful in her own way. If this were ever to happen, it would likely be a consequence of Dalinar being married again, to a woman he did not ask to forget, thus cancelling out the first boon/curse, whatever it was. Much like how some people thought that maybe the Nightwatcher's curse/boon would extend now to Navani as Dalinar's wife; what if instead it had been tied to both Shshsh's name and the fact that she was Dalinar's wife, and now that his wife is someone else it might start to lose power?? ...I know, unlikely. But cool! tl;dr: If Dalinar started to remember some things about his first wife it would make the flashbacks more impactiful narrative-wise, and would also have a considerable effect on Dalinar's character development, since as things stand he seems quite at peace with the person he used to be - he was only upset about letting Gavilar die, until he finally got over it when he fought Szeth. He needs to deal with his past some more, and he can't exactly do that if he can barely remember any event involving his wife. Also this theory no textual foundations whatsoever, I just think it's cool
  13. hoping to open the eyes of some ASOIAF fans to the gem that is Stormlight Archive =) https://youtu.be/sQjJRVboedY if you can't understand me, i don't blame ya. i find talking hard. i prefer reading or audiobooking to leaving the house or talking lol *btw, i miss pronounced Sadeus until the last couple times. it urks me, but im too tired to re-record. my bad!
  14. This is my First Theory post, please feel free to tell me if you think i'm horrifically off-base or if there's a WoB that I haven't encountered that disproves this. I'm working my way back through Way of Kings and something in Hoid's conversation with Dalinar in Ch. 54: Gibletish, struck me as odd this time through - Specifically the mention of Adonalsium. The general consensus, that he was just name-dropping the God-Shard's name to see if Dalinar knew it, leaves a crucial question unanswered: Why did Hoid think that Dalinar would have heard that name before? The obvious answer is that he knew Dalinar's visions were coming from Honor and didn't know what information was included in those visions. However, the way in which Hoid did the name drop stood out to me this time. "Wit," Dalinar said with a sigh. "I haven't the mind for this tonight. I'm sorry if I'm missing your intent, but I have no idea what you mean." "I know," Wit said, then looked directly at him. "Adonalsium." This seems like an odd way to go about checking if he knew that name, even if you ignore that Hoid is being a bit more direct than usual during that bit of conversation. To me, it seems almost as if Hoid is calling Dalinar Adonalsium, rather than just checking to see if the highprince recognized it. If that is the case, then the implication would be that Dalinar is somehow a reincarnation of the consciousness that was originally behind Adonalsium, and Hoid was calling him that to see if there would be any reaction. Is there something in how Dalinar is acting that reminds Hoid (who we know was present when Adonalsium was shattered) of the mind behind the being? So, what does everyone think? Am I just misreading it, or could this be a very real possibility? Or have I missed a WoB that completely counters what I'm proposing?
  15. In Words of Radiance how does Dalinar Kholin bind himself to an Honorblade of Talenel. Also since it is an honor blade how can it be summoned in 10 heartbeats as it has nothing to do with spren. Also when dalinar uses it against Szeth at the end why doesnt it give him powers like szeth has from using honor blade. Is this an error or inconsistency?
  16. As stated in the title this isn't so much a theory as it is random speculation. It pertains to Dalinar's to what boon and curse Dalinar may have received from the Nightwatcher when he sought out the old magic. We know from tWoK that Dalinar believes his inability to remember anything about his wife, is the curse he received when asking for his boon. However, we have no idea what this boon may be. My wild speculation is thus: Dalinar may have been responsible for his wife's death 10 years ago, or at least believed himself to be. In an effort to remove his guilt, he sought out the Nightwatcher and the Old Magic. Dalinar received his boon, removing his guilt, but his curse was to also forget everything he knew of her. Dalinar's boon and curse may in fact be one in the same. While this does seem unlikely. I think this would be a very interesting twist when we see Dalinar's flashback chapters in a book 5. Thoughts anyone? -Postmaster Lipwig
