  1. Lift is running away with some food she stole, and Wyndle does not approve.
  2. Hey there, everyone! I'm currently trying to read Edgedancer, but I feel like the biggest impediment to my progress is that I didn't read it when I should've. I went straight from Words of Radiance to Oathbringer. Now, when reading Edgedancer, I'm just frustrated because it's basically WoR Lift and her craziness all over again. I know that Edgedancer is supposed to follow her personal journey after her interlude in WoR, and I know that Lift is supposed to be immature and everything, but Edgedancer just feels like a pain to read. Should I keep trying to read it and get to the end, or just take a break and come back later?
  3. So I have a suspicion about the identity of the elusive spren of the Radiant order of Truthwatchers. In Edgedancer (about a page into chapter six), Lift’s Cultivationspren, Wyndle, mentions a type of spren known as Keenspren. Context: Lift was talking with a young street urchin, using all kinds of very strange words in odd ways. After the urchin leaves, Wyndle says: “Mistress, that was the strangest conversation I’ve ever heard, and I once grew an entire garden for some keenspren.” Truthwatcher’s spren are described as looking like “light reflected onto a surface through a crystal.” And Glys, Renarin’s corrupted spren, looks like a crystalline snowflake growing up from Renarin’s back. Many of the examples of corrupted spren we’ve seen were still recognizable as the type of spren they were. Keen means sharp, either in mind or as an edge, like a blade. I think this correlates well with what we’ve heard of the spren’s appearance in addition to the traditional personality attributed to the order of Truthwatchers. I would love to hear other suspicions about the Truthwatcherspren. This is a bit of a pet peeve of mine, so please share your thoughts on my theory!
  4. From the album: Bored Doodles

This is a sketch of Wyndle as a shardfork, and a pancake. I’m not sure if they have syrup, but a kind of dipping sauce is mentioned.
  5. From the album: Spren

Illustration of Wyndle cultivating the souls of objects into Grand crystals.
  6. I love this board ! Since joining I have read some of the most logical , well thought out theories and discussions concerning the Cosmere. I’m not sure if this thread has ever been discussed ; my apologies if it has. But, I would like to have everyone take a second to list there favorite quips , jokes , one liners coming from support characters only! We spend so much time focusing on POV characters and greater Cosmere theories I feel we are ignoring the gold we have witnessed in Oathbringer. Outside of Wayne from Mistborn era 2 , Oathbringer has the strongest support character humor I have ever read in a fantasy series . Everyone from bridge 4 , Hoid, Nightblood, Rock and The Lopen ( I know they are bridge 4 but the need special mention ). What are your favorite words a support character has to say . Fan favorites won’t get you an upvote (thus no “ no mating or I am a stick “ ) those have been beaten into the ground. I Assure you Oathbringer is Full of 100 more less recognized quips that are just as good ! I’ll go first . My new fovorite line is from Teft. Dalinar Just checked Amaram and told him to basically shut up and follow orders in Thaylan . Teft eases up and says “ Permision to stab him a little Surrrrrr!” Its gold all day . I couldn’t stop laughing . Mostly because you really didn’t expect that from Teft ! What about you guys . What really made you appreciate Sanderson rich support cast ?

A quick Wyndle Study, oil on canvas 8x10, before attempting a bigger piece.
  8. 1. Syl - cute, reminds me of my neighbors' daughter, Kathy. Confused about her weird Honorspren-windspren persona shift thing, though. 2. Pattern - oh my God, he's adorable his first few months when he appears to Shallan (and Jasnah calls him imbecilic), even better now making awkward for Shallan and Adolin. My favorite bean. 3. Ivory - I really like him for some reason, specially that weird speech pattern he's got going. He's like there posh British man of spren. 4. Glys - he's...shy? Nonexistent? Hates the cold and hides in Renarin's shirt to keep warm, while consequentially keeping himself from view? Honestly don't know anything about him, but I am obliged to love him because he's a spren. 5. Wyndle - dry like wine. 6. Stormfather - let's be honest. He's a priss. P.S. Syl is my favorite. What are your thoughts on the spren?
  9. Just wondering. I mean, Syl is friendly enough (except to Pattern). This could be my imagination, but...she did she meet with Ivory or Glys already? Yeah, but I think would create an interesting dynamic. If a spren were friends with another spren, and they're Radiants didn't like each other. Or best friend Radiants have spren who refuse to talk to each other. Does the Storm father have friends? He seems too...ethereal. (And let's be honest, he's a priss.)
  10. So I just started reading a webcomic called Unsounded, and all I can think about is Lift and Wyndle. Seriously, if you're a fan of Lift and Wyndle (and really, who isn't?) then give it a shot, and I think you'll love it. Also, instead of horses and oxen, this world has giant dogs.
  11. First time poster here. I tried a rudimentary search but couldn't find this. I was rereading edgedancer a few weeks ago and got to thinking. When lift climbs the walls by grabbing on to wyndle, is that really what she's doing or merely how they perceive it? Since she has the surge of abrasion, could it be that she is merely making the friction so high on her fingers and feet that she doesn't slide off? She doesn't understand it so she perceives it as grabbing on to wyndle?
  12. From the album: stormlight archive art

Drawn by me Love my little edgedancer!
  13. I don't know if this has already been brought up, but I realized something. I was re-reading the Lift chapter in WoR, when I realized that Wyndle is referring to Cultivation as Mother. I thought that Spren were children, rather splinters, of Honor, so is it possible that Spren could be literal children of Honor and Cultivation? Or at least some Spren. Because we know that they were romantically involved, coming to Roshar. Or, like Feurochemy is a mix of Ruin and Preservation, maybe some orders of the Knights Radiant are a mix of Honor and Cultivation. Although, I am also pretty sure that the Old Magic is of Cultivation. Sorry... Not so much a theory, rather a bunch of thought provoking questions!
  14. I haven't found any other forums that discuss exactly this, so I made a new topic. This forum proved that the Nightwatcher could be/probably is Cultivation. http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/38165-cultivation-is-the-nightwatcher/?hl=%2Bnightwatcher+%2Bspren#entry310555 So lets work with that assumption. We see that Syl, an Honor spren, refers to the Stormfather as her father. The Stormfather is also shown to be a part of Honor that fled when honor was killed. Quick note: Based on the book, elemental spren are from Cultivation, and emotional spren are from Honor. It looks like there might be an equal number of Cultivation spren (Shadow spren, possibly Light Spren) and Honor spren (Honor spren, Cryptics, High Spren) in the Knights Radiant in the end. So, since Wyndle calls the Nightwatcher "mother," what if he is a ..... Cultivation Spren! Wyndle is made up of vines, which you cultivate. Also, one of the surges he provides is growth and regrowth, which seem very reminiscent of the idea of cultivation. Tell me what you think, is Wyndle a Cultivation Spren?
  15. Ok, so we know that Lift exists more in the cognitive realm than other people, which gives her unique abilities. She can turn food into stormlight, she can see spren differently, and even touch them. The one I want to focus on is the fact that she sees Wyndle as a vine, not as crystals and dust, or whatever normal people see. That got me thinking about Rock. He can see spren, even when they don't want to be seen. Now, Wyndle doesn't choose to not be seen, he is just very hard to see. But it still begs the question, what would Rock see if he looked at Wyndle? I personally think he'd see the vines. What I'm driving at is that I think that what Rock does is the same thing that Lift does, just less so. I think bathing in the Horneater shardpool dragged him just a tiny bit into the cognitive realm, just like Lift was. But, again, less so. I got pretty excited when I thought of this, but I'm not so sure if its actually all that exciting. I apologize if this is common knowledge and I'm just over reacting. But on the flip side, if it is a new idea, then hey, I thought of it first. Although I'm sure I didn't.
  16. So, something I've been wondering for a while: does Lift actually climb up Wyndle when she climbs walls in the palace or is that her increasing her friction? Wyndle notes that he doesn't know why she can touch him, but it feels more like the Friction surge to me. Is that her way of understanding what she does?
  17. Ok so Lift may be my new favorite character. So much spunk and just plain badass! Hopefully we will hear about her and potentially the Reshi Isles more in the next book. I think what I am most curious about is why she has been given special treatment, being able to collect stormlight from food and have physical contact with Wyndle (her spren). Also that jerk Darkness, really anxious to find out whats up with him. Any thoughts?
  18. I'm new here so this may have been discussed before, but one of the things I am most curious about is how the different Spren in the book will get along. Will they become friends, rivals, something more...? Here are some of my thoughts. Syl Pattern Glys Ivory Wyndle Stormfather Nightwatcher How do you think these Spren will respond to each other? Do you think we will have a Spren POV in the next book?
