  1. I am creating a DnD campaign for some friends based on the Cosmere. It is set on an original world, but I would like to include some appearances by several worldhoppers and worldhopping groups, as the campaign revolves around the planet being a recent discovery in the Cosmere. As such, many groups and people are trying to learn what they can about the planet, both for scholarly and for self serving reasons. While finding worldhoppers isn't a problem, I would appreciate some help in deciding why these groups are here. Obviously the Ghostbloods are an easy pick, and Hoid will be making an appearance. Any help or ideas would be appreciated. I am caught up on the Mistborn Eras, Stormlight 4 (and Dawnshard), Elantris (but not emperors soul), and Warbringer. Please avoid putting spoilers for anything I haven't read yet. Thanks.
  2. So, in RoW, it's revealed that Invested beings are Spiritually bound to their world, which is also hinted at in Mistborn Secret History. If that's the case, how is Hoid able to travel so much? He's a mistborn, awakener, sandmaster, and Lightweaver (plus whatever else I don't know about). I have two guesses for this. 1) Hoid's being pulled in so many directions at once that he can get anywhere 2) He's found a way to bypass the Spiritual Connections
  3. This the worldhoppers leauge! If you are a worldhopper come on over! Someone just asked me what I was doing while I was working on this, and I said proudly: making a club for nerds! Except, Embrace, Explore. Protect the cosmere and your fellow members. These are the ideals we hold true to in this league. Do you swear them? Looking fo rnewpaper writters, for Worldhoppers weekly(see my fan fiction forum for more info)
  4. Here is a little fan fict I started. It is a list of characters, who are worldhoppers, that write a newspaper. Here is the character list! Sorry, kinda long. The paper is called Worldhoppers Weekly. The Lone Coinshots Members and Descriptions Velendsier, home planet: old Scadrial : Velendsier is the happy-go-lucky blogger of the group. She has had a great life, and doesn't quite understand people who haven't. She travels to different worlds for her monthly vacations. She gives lists of the best vacation destinations and eateries. She gives out her favorite hacks and recipes for each world. She is very socially interactive and wants to go see everything and everyone possible. Whenever Val sees a problem, she wants to fix it. However, she quickly realizes that you can’t help everyone, but what happens when she needs to make a life-altering decision on whose safety comes first? Kasinar, home planet: Roshar: Kas is your run-of-the-mill, everyday conspiracy theorist. He knows about all of the shards but sees relationships in them that others discredit. He labels governments corrupt, or worlds close to ending, but more often than not his theories prove false. He is the more serious(ok, paranoid) one in the group and is more sensitive when the others jest. He is worried about the end of his world, his life, and the cosmere as a whole. Through his adventures worldhopping he must find hope in the almighty and eternity , but can any change this heretic’s mind? Zarek Malarn, home planet: new Scadrial: Zarek is a former writer for the Elendel Daily newspaper. He was fired for his speaking out strongly towards political issues. Shortly after the Governmental Scandal of Elendel, he was fired for “disrespecting the officials of Elendel”-Editor in chief for Elendel Daily, speaking on Malarn’s harsh words. Soon after Zarek knew that people needed to hear what he had to say, and not just people on new Scadrial. He became a worldhopper and helped found worldhoppers weekly. He is the perfect balance of serious and easy-going. He keeps his newspaper style when writing for Weekly and gets along well with Velendsier and Kasinar. But can he regain the trust and friendship of the people of Elendle?
  5. Realizing that if Book 5 ends 10 days after the end of RoW (day of the contest), what part do Shallan and Adolin play? They'll still be traveling in the Cognitive Realm for at least 10 days, and they have no idea what's happening except with Wit and his communications box. They may be the part of the story that reveals a few big twists, investigating what truly happened at the Recreance. Thoughts?
  6. This has been bugging me ever since I finished tLM— how are Shai and Kaise still alive? Hoid’s long life being extended via Dawnshard spirit web stuff makes sense, but these two don’t have anything like that as far as I can think of. I suppose this would also apply to Baon/Demoux/Galloran as well. Am I missing something; is there even an explanation?
  7. In Rhythm of War, Mraize says that Radiants are so Invested that they can’t leave the Rosharan system, and that this is related to the issue of getting Stormlight off-world. We see heavily Invested worldhoppers, such as Vasher and Vivenna, however, so is this not a problem for all types of Investiture? Even if this is a specifically Rosharan issue, Hoid appears on Scadrial in Mistborn Era 2, by which point he has already become a Radiant, so how was he able to get off Roshar?
  8. So what exactly was the worldhopping trading network like on Scadrial? Back before Kelsier destroyed the pits? Like what would they have traded, who did the trading, how did they do it, how often did they do it. how many people were aware of it (besides the Lord Ruler), was there some kind of base or market next to the Perpendicularity in the Cognitive Realm? General questions like that. Feel free to just speculate.
  9. Seekers normally can only sense active use of investiture, but this WoB says that if enough investiture is gathered together, then you can sense it Does this mean that a Seeker would be more likely to become a worldhopper, since they might be able to locate perpendicularities, similar to how Vin was able to sense the Well of Ascension Would they be able to traverse the cognitive realm more easily, since they might be able to sense the direction of a shardworld via the pulses that come from it?
  10. So I just finished my....Nth+1 reread of Warbreaker, and for some reason I had a completely new theory (wild conjecture) pop up in my brain about Vasher. (Disclaimer: I am relying on personal memory of some things that I'm pretty sure have been confirmed via WoB, but I haven't taken the time to track them all down. Links to confirm or disprove anything I posit are welcome and appreciated!) . . . So Vasher is a pretty accomplished and knowledgeable guy. One of the Five Scholars, Returned, and a worldhopper. As one of Nalthis' Five Scholars, he's extremely well-versed in the mechanics of Awakening and BioChroma. As of Warbreaker, he and Shashara are the only ones known to have created a BoiChromatic Entity Type 4 (Nightblood), ever. Khalad's Phantoms are also a pretty noteworthy accomplishment. He may not be the best teacher (yet), but he clearly understands the subject, and probably figures out quite a lot intuitively when he's actually trying to break new ground. As a Returned, we know he's hundreds of years old, and currently functionally immortal. However, he still doesn't remember anything from before his Return. This...opens up a LOT of possibilities. As a worldhopper, we know he has knowledge of the greater Cosmere, experience studying and utilizing other forms of investiture (see Zahel living on Roshar and surviving off of Stormlight instead of requiring a weekly Breath infusion), and has even attempting to mimic foreign magic systems via Awakening (Nightblood being based on a shardblade). To that last point in particular, we know he was a worldhopper before the events of Warbreaker. Now, let's put aside Vasher for a moment and take a quick look at Lightsong the Bold. At the climax of Warbreaker, Lightsong's high priest Llarimar gives Lightsong a complete, unabridged info dump about his former life - something that is absolutely forbidden by the tenets of their religion. But it serves to prove that there's nothing actually preventing Returned from obtaining this knowledge, beyond custom. Without the religious restrictions in place, there's nothing stopping a Returned from reacquainting themselves with their past lives (by being informed by others...or perhaps by studying the extensive notes of their life's work that a great scientific mind would undoubtedly have kept?!) Back to Vasher. The Iridescent Tones did not exist at the time of his Return, so it's entirely possible that he reacquired knowledge from his past life. At the end of Warbreaker, he tells Vivenna that he does not remember anything from before his Return, and he also promised her early in their relationship that he would never lie to her. I'm actually inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he was being sincere about never lying to her outright...however, I could definitely see him misleading her with such a semantic loophole, and also being hesitant to share such information with her at that time. So what does all this mean? Well, what if Vasher had become Cosmere-aware before his Return? What's to say he hadn't already worldhopped before then? That he was even a "normal" human before then? Did he have a standard human lifespan? Did he possess other forms of Investiture? It might explain his significant talent for exploring the mechanics of Awakening, or his willingness to attempt emulating foreign magic. Could he have been around for other major pre-Warbreaker events? Heck, could he have been present for the Shattering? Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.
  11. Lets make a fun thread. Rules: 1. The shipped characters should only be from different origins(planet maybe). 2. Justify your ship. 3. Don't take this too seriously. Have fun !
  12. Are there any jobs that are unique to the Worldhopping community, or jobs that Worldhoppers would have a special advantage on? I know that they could trade special exotic goods from one world to another, but what else might they be specially qualified for with their knowledge of the greater Cosmere and (presumed) access to Perpendicularities?
  13. So Riino, the Hoed from Elantris who's mantra is "so beautiful, once so very beautiful", is the lighthouse keeper in Shadesmar. Okay. Wow. Do we know of any other series with Elantrians in them? Or, I guess a better question would be, do we know any other Worldhoppers from Sel?
  14. Based on WOBs, we know people not from Nalthis are not Drabs, but if someone not from Nalthis gets one breath and then gives it away, does this still hold true? Is the breath less intertwined with their soul than a Nalthian and this they have about a Nalthian level of soul, or just slightly less, even without a breath, or would having gotten a breath open them up to becoming a drab? I suspect the answer to that is know but I wanted to check to see if everyone agreed.
  15. He apears just two times on the pages of RoW, but I still find him very interesting. First, we see him as steward during Gavilars feast, he speaks with Navani. Is mentioned he has many rings on his fingers. Second, we see him as corpse, as he is murdered by Mraize. We can assume its the same person. His eyes changed and his rings are gone. Also, we learn he had Aviar of some sort. So what he is doing here? And witch organization he served? Scadrian worldhoppers are associated with few organizations, each with other one. Demoux is from 17th Shard. Felt is independent. Axindweth is associated with Gavilar and Sons of Honor (probably) but is also linked to some other organisation (Set maybe? Dont think she is Ghostblood). Yiatil is Ghostblood. So who he is? Is he one of Harmonys agents? Is he 17th Shard? Why Mraize killed him? Is he rival Ghostblood?
  16. I just read Warbreaker for the first time (after reading ROW) and went back to reread chapter 15 (the Vasher/Kaladin fight) once I understood Awakening Now I’ve been thinking.....what was Vasher doing during the occupation? Assuming he’s at at least the Second Heightening (it seems unlikely to me that he would worldhop with a relatively small amount of Breath, though it is possible), he would have perfect pitch, so can he understand the Rhythms and their individual meanings? To other humans it just sounds like random humming, but does perfect pitch allow him to understand the emotions and Intent behind the rhythms? And if so, would he have been able to help with discovering the Rhythm of War? Navani struggled because of her inability to hear the rhythms, but would someone of the Second Heightening be able to do so with the ease of a singer?
  17. [Spoilers All] This started on Reddit, but since I've discovered this incredible site, I thought I'd bring it over here. Apologies if I'm doing this wrong, etc. Strongly appreciate corrections and feedback; I am only so realmatically aware :-) In a nutshell: I am starting to see the goals of a lot of the non-Shardic players in the Cosmere as: searching for a way to transport Investiture between Shardworlds. This is particularly apparent in The Ghostbloods. In Rhythm of War, I read Mraize's statement to Shallan as this: the goal of the Ghostbloods is to assure the persistence of Kelsier's Cognitive Shadow. As Kelek says, the persistence of a Cog requires Investiture. And it makes sense that Kel doesn't have much access to that. For a Cog to access Investiture, it needs any one of the following: -granted it directly by a Shard -on a Shardworld where lots of free investiture is available -on a Shardworld with investiture accessible, and sufficiently Connected to that world to access it -brought Investiture from such a source to it Our boi The Survivor comes up short on all counts: Kel could get some Investiture from the Shard(s) on Scadrial. But this seems unlikely. On the one hand, there's Harmony's growing tendency towards inaction in general; and on the other, I don't know if Sazed would Invest in our psychotic little Survivebro even if he could. He is on Scadrial. The amount of available Investiture there is simply very small - not even as a Mistborn. And as we learned in Secret History, he can't just wander off a-worldhoppin'. Either because the Investiture he has is too Connected to Scadrial to leave, or because he doesn't have enough to overcome this problem; I'm not sure. And a mechanism for bringing free Investiture from one Shardworld to another, has, I believe, not yet been discovered. Therefore, Kelsier would be content to find any of the following: -a way to get himself to Roshar. -a way to get himself to another Shardworld - Nalthis, Sel, Taldain (tho probably not Threnody), and also then access the local manifestation of Investiture. -a way to get free Investiture from any of those places to Scadrial. Has anyone else done this? Not quite. There are only two Cogs that I can think of, who we know were able to worldhop: Vasher and Shashara. From WoB I believe we know that this exact predicament is what caused Vasher to leave Nalthis for Roshar. But I expect it was a lot easier for Vasher to worldhop. He started off very Invested. A Returned with a Divine Breath, naturally Fifth Heightening... however you want to phrase it: Gruff Bae had a lot of Investiture. And as we know from Peacegiver's Treasure, he was definitely no stranger to acquiring more - Nor was Shashara, which we know from the fat stacks she expended in the creation of Nightblood. How is Kelsier going about this? I think he tried several things, one after another. I expect that he created the Bands Of Morning as a scientific experiment attempting to acces more of Scadrial's Investiture. Obviously it didn't work. It wouldn't surprise me if he tried to contact another Shard seeking, uhm, "sponsorship." (Giv avatar plz). This might well be related to all the Trelagist stuff on Scadrial. Whatever, and however - it seems it didn't work. We know from Mraize's Mancave Of Miracles that the Ghostbloods have been to many worlds. And they have brought back from them many Investiture-related objects, including white sand (Taldain), aviars (First of the Sun), and seons (Sel). Clearly nothing has solved the puzzle. We've also seen several ferruchemists offworld. It wouldn't surprise me if some of these are Ghostbloods. Metalminds allow for direct experimentation with the storing of Identity, Connection, and Investiture (Aluminum, Duralumin, and Nicrosil) on other worlds. These Terris people truly are cosmerenauts. However, he Kel hasn't figured out a way for him to Connect to one of these places sufficiently to access their Investiture; or he has, but not in a way that is strong enough to let him survive the trip to it. His work on Roshar - and his interests in Kalak especially - show that he is interested in the free investiture of Stormlight. This leads me to believe that he has concluded that he cannot get Investiture where he is, nor can he get to a better source of Investiture; he needs to bring the Investiture to him. What would the Realmatic effects of this be? #1 - it would give Cognitive Shadows on any Shardworld access to the life-persisting Investiture of the other worlds. Lots of Light = lots of shadows (heyooo). #2 - it would let forms of Investiture manipulation here be powered with Investiture from there. Which means intergalactic arbitrage opportunities for power - practically speaking, allowing merchants the opportunity to elevate themselves to positions of rulership, even interplanetarily so. #3 - probably tons of Realmatic things that I cannot even fathom. Who wouldn't want Kelsier to succeed? #1 - possibly, some or all Shards, as this would threaten their hegemonies over their planets specifically, and over the Cosmere as a whole #2 - every other group who wants to get this technology for themselves - so just rivals for power. This might include The Set, The Sons of Honor, who knows what. #3 - any noninterventionist group, I would think, would object to such a cosmic realignment of power. So I doubt Frost and his 17ers are all about this. Probably not the Sleepless either. Okay, that's how I read this. Am I entirely offbase? Whaddya guys think? -silver
  18. Out of all the known worldhoppers, which shardworld have the majority of them been born on. My first thought turns to Nalthis, but I feel like I'm missing something.
  19. I saw an interesting vlog, can’t remember the vlogger’s name, but he put out the thought that Mraize might be Kelsier of Mistborn...blew my mind. It’s probably way off, but interesting nonetheless. Gave a couple of reasons by tying Kelsier to Hoid our favorite world hopper. What do you think? By the way I’m new here and to the Cosmere. I came here through Sanderson’s contributions to the Wheel of Time series and now I’m hooked.
  20. Is there a Shardpool in France? Sure looks like it! http://www.bbc.com/travel/story/20200730-the-fosse-dionne-frances-mysterious-underground-spring Worldhoppers - Coming to your area soon! (Just kidding, of course, but wow would the Fosse Dionne ever make for a spectacular Shardpool!)
  21. So I thought, There's letters right? Between worldhoppers or general cosmere aware people so, why not have a postal service? I basically made this topic to see some of your (17Sharders) thoughts on what you would be like in the cosmere and what some of you would send to each other or, characters in the cosmere. In short, Have some fun! send some replies in letter forms and why not give some responses? make our own little RPG fourm in the cosmere thingo. (Sorry lost what i was sayin' there) For example Dear @The traveller, Hope you are enjoying the rose empire! sorry for leaving you without warning you of my departure! I had something from... my past... come up. However I should be able to rejoin you in a few weeks, best of luck with your new life in the Rose empire, I would take care for those jaddeth priests, all i can say is they corrupt all continents of Sel. Last of all, Please look out for @greeny-231, he is a spearman and can take care of himself but... I would prefer if he had supervision by you or @Honorless. Cheers, -FS (Find our discussion about that @ https://www.17thshard.com/forum/profile/26923-the-traveller/?status=12286&type=status)
  22. there’s Kenton street in luthadel which is the name of the main character in white sands and trell on taldain and also a god on scadrial plus the fact that khriss is I world hopper
  23. I was just wondering in the future are we going to see a book where there might be someone from Scadrial , someone from Roshar and perhaps someone from Nathis and they are all employing different magic systems in a fight . I think that would be epic . And the true culmination of what the Cosmere has to offer ! I Realize that this situation currently exist on Roshar but we don’t see anyone using powers in a confrontation. The closest we have is Hoid utilizing breath on the doll . What I’m getting at is a conflict between Worldhoppers offworld ,
  24. So for a while now I’ve been thinking about this subject, and the other day I had made a post in the Stormlight Facebook group addressing it, and it ended up being a pretty big hit there, with reactions ranging from people loving it, to thinking it’s interesting but likely misguided. So I wanted to lay this out here as well and get some more feedback on it. So ever since I listened to Stormlight Archive the second time, with the benefit of hindsight from my first listen-through, I began to wonder whether there might be potentially more to Lirin (Kaladin’s father) than meets the eye. But at first I couldn’t quite place what it was about him that seemed off about him to me, but recently, it hit me. I realized that literally every single one of Kaladin’s ideals thus far, including what his fourth one is most likely to be, namely accepting that you can’t save everyone and to not allow your failures to prevent you from doing what you can, are things that Lirin has explicitly tried to instil in Kaladin and also operates by himself. In short, Lirin almost seems to me to be a Windrunner without a Spren. The first ideal is really too broad to find anything specific, but the second and third are very explicit in that he dedicates his life to helping people whose lives are in danger, he very explicitly was put into a situation in which Roshone, a man he had every reason to despise and allow to die, had his life entirely in Lirin’s hands, and Lirin chose to do what he knew was the right thing and save his life, which is the third ideal of the Windrunners. And he also has told Kaladin on more than one occasion that he no matter how hard he tries, he can’t save everyone, and that he needs to come to terms with that inevitability, which is most likely at the very least related to the fourth Windrunner ideal. So again I say, Lirin seems to be very Windrunner-y in his philosophy, with the only real difference being the way in which he chooses to protect people, namely as a surgeon rather than a soldier. Now I don’t believe for a second that Brandon wrote his character this way accidentally; the parallels are just to explicit for that. But the question is: what does it mean? And could it possibly be hinting at something? Now, before I go any further, I just want to freely admit that I have very little confidence that this theory is correct, as there are many other explanations for this that are much simpler, but I still think it’s at least worth laying out. So, here’s my admittedly unlikely theory: what if Lirin is a former Windrunner? Specifically a Windrunner from the time of the Recreance? Now, like I said, I realize how unlikely this probably is, but I don’t think it’s completely out of the question. After the Recreance, I think it’s entirely possible that some of the disgraced Radiants may have chosen to go into exile and leave Roshar, maybe becoming worldhoppers. And we know that worldhoppers often gain a greatly extended lifespan by as yet unknown means. And the one piece of evidence I have for this is how thickly Lirin lays on the whole ‘violence is always bad; nothing good can ever come of it!’ spiel. The way he speaks of that, and his conviction, seems to me to bespeak some deep familiarity with war and conflict. And the Radiants at the time of the Recreance pretty much got the ultimate example of this by their unwitting lobotomization and subsequent enslavement of the Singer species. With the Windrunners probably being even more deeply disturbed than many other orders by virtue of how much their order was all about protecting people and doing the right thing; I happen to be in the camp of fans who suspect that the horror of realizing what they had done to the Singers probably caused many of them to consider their oaths broken. And if Lirin was one of them, I can easily imagine his guilt driving him to be a hard pacifist, which he clearly is, and changing his method of protecting people from the role of a soldier to the role of a healer. And the other somewhat intriguing thing is that Lirin had a very interesting reaction to seeing Kaladin use his Windrunner powers, namely to look horrified and dismayed, maybe because he knew first hand what those powers could potentially cause and was horrified that his son now possessed them? Again, clearly there are many other possible explanations for this, and I freely admit that even I think that most of them are probably much more likely than this one. But I will say one thing with conviction, and that is that regardless of whether he’s a former Windrunner or not, I do think that Brandon must have written his character like this for some reason. One doesn’t just overtly display pretty much the entire Windrunner philosophy (in stark contrast with 99.9% of the rest of Roshar) for no literary purpose. Like I said, the only question is what that literary purpose is in this case? Could Brandon be hinting at something more important here? What does everyone think?
  25. How old is Khriss during all of the books? And do worldhoppers age slower or something, because she is in secret history, era 2, stormlight, and of course white sand which must have come first. My guess is at least 230 years old during Stormlight.
