  1. So I was reading the Orem Library Signing on December 6 post and I came across this quote from zaz678: Assuming that Iyatil is actually the person Brandon is talking about and that she is a worldhopper then there is a high chance that we have seen her before somewhere. Now looking at what Brandon said about her not being from the same planet that her parents are from I can only think of how the people of Threnody had a history of migration and that some left the "homeland" or "fallen world" and moved to another continent. What if this "fallen world" was actually another planet? If all my ramblings are true and Iyatil is from Threndoy then there are only 2 people I can think of that could be her: Silence and Sebruki. Both are quite short (even though Sebruki is like 8 I think Brandon mentions that she is quite short anyway) I think Sebruki is a better match since she was really quite and deadly even as a child. So any thoughts? Also I don't know how to use quotes from other posts so can someone please tell me how to do that?
  2. Base Information Names (included for convenience) Personality The man in the Prelude to The Way of Kings has always interested me. This may in fact be the the seed that began this theory. His name is given as Kalak, Herald, Patron of the Willshapers. More than this, his attitude is startalingly similar to another man we have read of in Brandon Sanderson's works. A very old man, with a very youthful body. Bourn down heavily by the weight of his age, his knowledge, his sins, and responsability. Not a man who lives for himself at all; instead, a man who lives to correct the wrongs he wishes he had never created. The man who instructed Kaladin Stormblessed to "Choose the option that makes it easiest for you to sleep at night." After all, "That's what I wish I'd done."
  3. I love coming up with characters for RP, but they usually get killed in Sanderson Elimination. Here, people can post and RP for cosmere characters that they can use all over the forum. If you want, your dead SE characters can be incarnations of the One True [insert name], in so that you can to tie all your RP together. Below I have posted information about my True Character. -- Maleril Ostrir Chalev Tekil is a Scadrian noble who has become a Worldhopper. While not an Allomancer or Feruchemist, he had a small Spike taken from a terminally ill Worldhopper that allowed him to Worldhop. He got this Spike and became a Worldhopper at the age of 12. The first world that he traveled to was Roshar. After forming a Nahel bond with a Spren, Esare (using Rosharan sDNA granted by his Spike), he became an Elsecaller. From living on Roshar for so long, he gained more Rosharan sDNA, so he could remove his Spike. He now Worldhops without the Spike, as he is an Elsecaller.
  4. I've been thinking a lot lately about who the Terriswoman Worldhopper may be in Warbreaker. In fact, this idea is what brought me from a lurker to a regular board member a few months back. However, I wanted to dig a little bit deeper and get some WOB on the subject before posting anything. Thus, I specifically ordered a personalized copy of Warbreaker just to ask Brandon a question to try and unearth information about the appearance of non-Nalthians on Nalthis. There's been some speculation about who she may be in Warbreaker, but nothing confirmed. Kurkistan has hypothesized that she may be the Nurse, and got a really gleeful RAFO from Brandon. While I like this idea, I began to think that Jewels may be our Worldhopper, for many reasons: 1) She's a random Drab with a group that includes two of the five Scholars of Nalthis 2) She's in love with Arsteel, which implies that she probably has known him for quite a while. Also, Denth seems okay with the fact that she loved him, even if he thinks it's strange that she still sleeps with Arsteel. 3) She is often off-page gathering information, which seems to be a common strategy for worldhoppers on other planets. 4) What better way is there to look inconspicuous on Nalthis than being a Drab? The first two points, for me, are closely related. According to WOB in the Warbreaker Annotation, Jewels joined the group because she was in love with Arsteel. How long ago did she fall in love with Arsteel? If someone is a Drab, they get sick more frequently (according to the same Annotation), and in this world without healing capabilities, I find it hard for them to have a terribly long lifespan. Thus, it's possible that she fell in love with Arsteel a long time ago, and really isn't Drab. Also, Denth seems okay with the fact that she was and still is in love with Arsteel/Clod. If she were some new recruit to the team, would he really be okay with this situation unless they've known each other for a long time? Would he be okay with the fact that she’s Clod’s primary keeper? My speculation is that she may have been a part of this team for a long time and knew the Five Scholars from times past when Arsteel probably reciprocated her love. As we know, Worldhoppers have ways to either be immortal or extend their lives. Could this explain how her relationship with Arsteel/Clod is acceptable to Denth? The question derived from this situation, however, is that if she’s not really Drab and can extend her life, does Denth know what she really is, but is okay with it? The third point is mostly just speculation. We know that Worldhoppers seem to be big on information gathering, and Jewels is often off-page doing just this for Denth’s group. For example, Demoux and co. are gathering information to hunt down Hoid. Hoid seems to be extremely Cosmere aware (but not as aware as Khriss!), and to get that aware, you have to gain a lot of knowledge from information. Nazh goes worldhopping to Shardworlds to make sketches to share with some unknown party. Jewels skills seem to be along these lines as well. Additionally, if you were a Worldhopper, wouldn’t you want to collect information on the Five Scholars? This seems like the best opportunity to learn about the investiture of Nalthis. Thus, maybe Jewels fakes a relationship with Arsteel initially (only to really fall in love with him), and joins the group to gather information about Awakening, Returned, BioChromatic Breath, etc. For the fourth point...if you’re a Worldhopper on a planet that isn’t your homeworld, wouldn’t you want to look drab or at least not stand out? Well, on Nalthis, a Drab is a good option to sink into the background unnoticed! They look…plain, drained of color. Nothing special about them and their characteristics. Yes, I know that Awakeners wouldn’t be able to sense them, and this would stand out, but Drab’s are common enough that that they probably aren’t as surprised by Drab’s as Vivenna was when she first realized Jewels was a Drab (page 226 of the first edition PDF). She was probably surprised because she only had just reached a Heightening to have life sense. To test my theory of if Jewels could be the potential Worldhopper, I wanted to ask Brandon a question, without directly asking him point blank if it’s Jewels; I wanted to avoid the RAFO. Before I reveal my question and Brandon’s answer, I want to highlight a comment that Kurkistan posted from Oct., 2013 that helped frame my question: This one statement made me think that if Jewels is our Terriswoman, maybe her investiture from Scadrial would make Awakeners perceive her as Drab, even though she’s not technically Drab. As Kurkistan mentions, we don’t have explicit confirmation on how they would appear. Thus, here’s the question that I ultimately asked Brandon (and the capitalized word was indeed capitalized in my question for emphasis): Brandon's answer: At first I didn't like this answer because it meant Jewels was not our Worldhopper. However, I believe that it answers Kurkistan's question: Non-Nalthians are NOT Drab, and are in fact seen differently. An Awakener would be able to potentially pinpoint a Worldhopper out because they look different, new even. Now that I think about it more, while Jewels is most likely not our Worldhopper, maybe Vivenna, who had never "seen" a Drab before, misidentified her? Probably not though...
  5. Hi! I'm fairly new here so I don't know if this was already asked. I tried searching but to no avail. This has been bugging me ever since my 1st read of tWoK... Did you guys notice that guy from Gavilar's assassination? That drunk guy that says "Have you seen me?" to Szeth Very very strange behavior, even if the guy was drunk..
  6. Hi! I'm fairly new here so I don't know if this was already asked. I tried searching but to no avail. This has been bugging me ever since my 1st read of tWoK... Did you guys notice that guy from Gavilar's assassination? That drunk guy that talks to Szeth “Have you seen me?” the man asked with slurred speech. He laughed, then began to speak in gibberish, reaching for a wineskin. Very very strange behavior, even if the guy was drunk... Or maybe this is just my addled brain looking for worldhoppers everywhere....
  7. So I found this interesting gem: Note that this is before Szeth has either met Nin or picked up Nightblood. So a)from Adolin's perspective, Szeth is Commanding objects. b)It sounds awfully like Breath - in particular could command inanimate objects, and we all know how careful Brandon is with his wording. (Or at least, how careful we THINK he is. *ahem* Gibletish ) However a)It could have just been the wind, and generally Adolin freaking out about the Assassin in White. b ) Szeth wouldn't have had time to give a verbal command, even if he could use Stormlight to power and Awakening. c) It seems a bit much to me that on top of Vasher and Nightblood, Brandon would then cross over an entire magic system from Nalthis - especially since we're not supposed to need to have read any particular Cosmere book to understand the others. IF however, Szeth can Awaken, the only way I think he could learn it is from Vasher. 99% chance he's not a worldhopper, since we KNOW he's from Shinovar, plus it would make flashbacks very messy. I'm not sure I can see Vasher teaching him anyway, unless he learned Awakening in his past, before or in his early days of being Truthless. Which is doubtful because flashbacks. So I open the question to the rest of you theorisers and obssessors. What doth 17th Shard think?
  8. This all comes from my friend, but he doesn't post here, so very little of this is my actual idea. We were just wondering if The Lord Ruler had the ability to worldhop. If anyone in Scadrial's history could, it would be him. I believe it's WoB that every Shardworld's arcana has at least one trick that allows for worldhopping. Scadrial has three arcana that we know of. The Lord Ruler was the unquestioned master of Allomancy and Feruchemy. He could use his feruchemy to power his allomancy; nicrosil speculation aside, we have no idea how he did that and no canon examples of anyone doing the same. He prolly knew more hemalurgy than anyone there's ever been on Scadrial. He had exclusive access to the god metals, one of them in enormous quantities. However Scadrian worldhopping happens, odds are very good that The Lord Ruler was at least theoretically capable of doing it. Then there's his Ascension. In that moment when he held Preservation's power, he could well have gained cosmeric knowledge. The way Sazed realized his Powers were once a part of something greater, Rashek could have realized there were other Powers out there, too. I realize it's all speculation. I just wonder if it's something The Lord Ruler was aware of.
  9. First and foremost, let me preface by saying that my general impression of this site is that while we may kid sometimes, our humor does not tend towards the crude, so I feel comfortable broaching this topic assuming it will stay as a scholarly discussion and not devolve into something lewd. If I'm proven wrong, I will be the first to petition the Admins to delete the entire thread. We know a few facts. (I will look up citations when I get a chance, unless someone beats me to it). 1. At least one aspect of your spiritual DNA is determined by where you are born; i.e. if two Rosharans moved to Nalthis and started a family, their children's spiritwebs would be affected by the environment of Nalthis, though we don't know for certain what that would entail. 2. The moment of conception determines certain things about a person's origins. There is also, in my opinion, strong evidence that Elsecallers can physically enter Shadesmar, though there are MANY major spoilers for WoR to back up my point. It's also, I believe, widely assumed though I'm not sure I've seen the WoB, that Hoid worldhops by physically entering the cognitive realm. As such, it's not a preposterous assumption that others might be able to physically enter the Cognitive Realm, too. Here, then, is my question. What would happen to the spiritweb of someone who was conceived while his parents were in the Cognitive Realm?
  10. We've heard that there's a worldhopper in Warbreaker (can someone give me the exact quote, i cant seem to find it). And I'm pretty sure that I've just found out who it is. I dont have heaps of proof, but the below paragraph seems to give as much proof as Brandon would give us. -Warbreaker, Page 3 (Kindle Edition)Those two sentences there are pretty hard to dismiss, if you think about it. I dont remember quite whar Brandon said, but I'm pretty sure he mentioneda female worldhopper in Warbreaker that we would be very unlikely to spot. Someone of Sazed's kind (cant remember what that was called…) from MB. Well, I'm rereading WB and havent noticed a description of Mab yet but I'm pretty sure it's her.
