  1. Is it possible that one of Shallan's brothers betrayed her location to the Ghostbloods to buy them time/repay their debt? If they were capable of tracking Jasnah through something like a ship's manifest, why did it take them until the Wind's Pleasure to catch up to her?
  2. No spoilers for RoW why are the shards different. Shouldn’t all the rules apply to all of them Can the Rosharian gods see metal? Can they impact the world like Ruin with the ashmounts
  3. I've only read up to Dawnshard (no RoW), Era 1, and Warbreaker "In that case, the spike instead steals the very power of Preservation existing within the soul of the people. (The power that, in fact, gives all people sentience.)A Hemalurgic spike can extract this power, then transfer it to another, granting them residual abilities similar to those of Allomancy. After all, Preservation's body-a tiny trace of which is carried by every human being -is the very same essence that fuels Allomancy." If Preservation gives sentience then how do others in the cosmere have sentience And what does it mean SIMILAR to allomancy or is this a RAFO.
  4. I was just reminded of this today, and it is something that has irritated me for years about how the battles on the Shattered Plains played out in WoK and in WoR. So, Dalinar has these slow, lumbering siege bridges for crossing the chasms, and Sadeas has the bridge crews. Multiple times, Dalinar is chided by Sadeas and Elhokar to give into the fact that Sadeas' bridge crews are "better" because they are so much faster. Dalinar lists off all the reasons and codes as to why he would never use such a method (Never ask a soldier to do something you wouldn't do yourself...It's such a waste of life..etc). In all of that talk, Sadeas even admits that he used to give the bridge crews armor and shields but that it worked better for him to use the bridge crews as bait. All of that is to say this...why did one of the most brilliant military tacticians/generals on Roshar, Dalinar Kholin, not see that he could make his own bridge crews with armored troops, and duplicate Sadeas' speed without his callous disregard for life by using the bridge crews as bait? Sadeas had already demonstrated, and admitted, that the enemy would ignore them in they were armored? So why not!?! Ok, end of rant that's been simmering for years.
  5. I noticed both WoK/ WoR ( set A) and OB / RoW (set B ) have common characteristics in plot structure and character development, that makes them mirror each other in a way. Since symmetries (like Keteks) are very much a part of SA worldbuilding, I do not think this is coincidental, as Pattern said art is kind of like math.... (A): centered on the Shattered Plains vs OB/ RoW (B): centered on Urithiru; Unrelated: (B) both feature a trip through Shadesmar with Adolin and Shallan and to Hearthstone with Kaladin; (A) at the end Dalinar bonds to the Stormfather (B) at the end Navani bonds to the Sibling (A) main chars Kaladin / Shallan a baited romantic relationship; (B) Dalinar/ Navani an actual romantic relationship (A) flashback chars Kaladin/ Shallan both had trauma in their past, (B) Dalinar and Venli inflicted trauma on a large scale in their past but regret it later; (A) Sadeas is the main villain; (B) Odium is the main villain, both die at the end of the respective set. (A) Szeth is a menace or a minor villain,; (B) Szeth does not really do that much (A) Szeth holds the Honorblade, with which Gavilar is murdered in the beginning (B) Szeth holds Nightblood with which Odium is murdered in the end. Let`s see weather you can find more symmetries, I am sure I missed a lot Oh and this also means the next installment is going to be the odd one sticking out, which is fitting for Szeths book.
  6. I'm rereading WoR and when shallan talks to taln he says ishar made the knight radiants a few desolations ago. So that means the heralds fought off the fused without the radiants before? And does that mean the 10 of them destroyed ashyn by themselves? Or did the honour blades originate on roshar? And if they did where did the magic come from to destroy ashyn? Sorry i know its alot of questions
  7. So, I’ve been re-reading WoR (for the...7th time, maybe? I’ve lost count...) and one of the things that stood out to me was Shallan’s flashbacks. Now, I know there’s a lot of hate for Shallan out there, but I actually really like her and her flashbacks especially. I was wondering what you guys thought about the WoR flashbacks. Now, some ground rules: (because of the aforementioned Shallan-haters) Be respectful. If you don’t like her, fine, but be kind, please. This isn’t a breakdown of “this is why I hate Shallan in book so-and-so” I’m specifically talking about the chapters in WoR about her past. All opinions are welcome, but again, be nice I’m excited to hear what you guys think!
  8. Are certain names and words in Stormlight Archive of Indian origin, eg. Navani, Narak, Shallan, Amaram?
  9. Does anyone know who Thaidakar's master is? In RoW Mraiz talks about how his master is Thaidakar but he also has a master. Thaidakar being a cognitive shadow really the only higher rank would be godhood. Which would also mean that the ghostbloods are ruled by a god. Any thoughts?
  10. Last week I decided to buy all the Stormlight and Wax and Wayne books, all are the UK versions, when they came in I quickly noticed that my copy of Words of Radiance part 1 had a gold title while all the other Stormlight books had metallic red titles. At first I thought it was s**tty design and my OCD kicked in and it kinda annoyed me but I ultimately thought nothing of it. I started looking into it and I couldn't find any pictures online of a copy with a gold title like mine. I discussed it with a friend of mine, he got me into Brandon Sanderson's books, and we concluded that it must be my GOLDEN TICKET and now I get to go to Brandon's chocolate factory!... Nah it is probably just a weird printing error. At any rate it's kinda cool even if the title is a bit hard to read. What do guys and gals think?
  11. I’m currently rereading WoR. During the prologue it features Jasnah during the feast where Gavilar is assassinated. There’s a moment where her shadow is going the wrong way. I know she has had her episodes of lunacy in the past. I don’t think the shadow is necessarily that. I think it’s Ivory, her inkspren. I don’t know much about inkspren forms, but I assume they can puddle into basic shapes like a shadow. Her shadow seems to be pointing towards the sphere lanterns. I’m wondering if this has to do with her being in an order that deals heavily with Shadesmar and her becoming bonded to Ivory. Kinda similar to how Syl played tricks on Kaladin before gaining full sentience. Any thoughts?
  12. Hey guys, first post! Had a question, and couldn’t find the answer anywhere. We know Rock can see spren. Which implies he’s able to slip into the cognitive realm somewhat. Since he can see spren, does he recognize shardblades as dead spren?
  13. I decided on a reread of WoR, and just when we get to the point where he gets arrested after the magnificent battle between 6 shard bearers, I lost respect for Kaladin. Controversial opinion perhaps, but he accepts getting arrested. He backs down from his otherwise accurate accusations against Amaram. When Dalinar challenges him to follow orders, he goes along with it. As I read that section again, about 6 years after I first read it, I couldn't help but think no. That the world doesn't accept that you're right it's their problem. You know you're right. You know that Amaram is lying. You know that he doesn't deserve the position he's at. Arguably you also know that being where he is and who he is, he'll likely influence things in a way that goes poorly. At that point he could easily have said you know what - if you think I'm lying, punish me for slander against Amaram, and enjoy the consequences that'll surely come. Or if you think I'm being honest, then do the right thing, and banish that cremling. Cuz if I go along with this, if I accept punishment for what I know is wrong, them whatever victory we get ultimately will lead to a society that's arguably no better than this one. And I'm not playing that game. Now no one knows what ramifications this could've had, but given he went along with it I just kinda lost respect for him. Especially since a few days later he says I want the lives of people like me to change cuz that's right not cuz I'm part of the aristocracy now. Anywho.. didn't really have a point besides maybe challenging some opinions about what I thought was otherwise one of the leading characters in the series so far.
  14. I’ve read WoR twice and am in the process of re-reading OB and I knew that there was a crossover in OB but I didn’t know anyone else crossed over (except Nightblood) Well, I ended up to the coppermind for something entirely different and fell into the rabbit hole that led me to Azure and Zahel How the heck did anyone know/guess who they actually are and is their identity confirmed by Brandon Sanderson?
  15. From the album: Shallan

one of these days I'll figure out the proper way to upload art on here Hadn't done any illustrations for the first two books of SA so I had to change that! I always loved the illustration of the Santhid in WoR so I wanted to try my hand at it too.

  20. Okay so this is pretty open ended, but while on the Who Do You Want Most Dead thread and the Am I The Only One That... I noticed that... People, including myself really hate Moash, and I think y'all need to vent because I'm seeing it every where. (Myself included...) So go, my friends, RANT.
  21. For Christmas, I got one of those little cinema light-boxes, usually intended for inspiring quotes and the like, but being the insanely obsessed Sanderfan that I am, I put the following quote... We love a good Stick meme.
  22. Okay so let me explain... I was super bored yesterday, so I ended up doing this... You know how Brandon puts up those little percent bars on his website? I'm keeping track of those with the graph paper, and the spots around it will fill with stuff~ the title, cover, the pdf Brandon gives out with viewpoint and interlude characters laid out, etc.~ I might post again, in a few months, as it will inevitably fill slowly, but surely. (Also, I realized that the word Stormlight has 10 letters, so I colored the first 3 letter the color of the first three books, and will fill in number 4 once it's out. )
  23. The other day at school I was in the library because the Librarian bought the Stormlight books! One of my friends teachers saw me, and later he stopped me in the hallway during study hall and we spent like 30min talking about Oathbringer, which he had finished the day before! Highlight of my week! It's the best when you find more people, or when you bring more people...I got my sister into Mistborn, and my friend into Stormlight and Mistborn
  24. Hi Sanderfans/Sharders, I will be posting a series of "scrolls" about Moshe Feder, Brandon's Tor editor, on my blog. Moshe was the person who "discovered" Brandon and acquired Brandon's sixth novel Elantris in 2003. In 2005, Elantris became Brandon's first published novel. Moshe has kindly agreed to be interviewed for this series. Here is the first "scroll" in case any of you are interested to check it out: http://shazarose.blogspot.com/2018/08/moshe-man-behind-copper-mind-scroll-1.html This is the first scroll in what is expected to be a multi-short scroll series on Moshe. A future planned "scroll" will document half of Brandon's twin inspiration for including characters like Kaladin, Shallan and Dalinar, who all suffer from various mental health issues, in his Stormlight Archive series. Moshe himself is one half of this inspiration, and I will be documenting Moshe's bout of bipolar that he wants to share in order to help raise awareness about mental health issues. When I asked him if it would be a painful thing for him to share, he had this to say: "Not painful to share. It’s a duty to help fellow sufferers and to work on reducing stigma. When I was Corflu (fanzine fan con) GoH, it was a major part of my speech." Hope you do enjoy the series if you decide to check it out! Warmest Regards Sharon Hooper
  25. When reading through Words of Radiance I noticed a similarity between the map of the Shattered Plains and the picture at the beginning of The Way of Kings that depicted the glyphs for the KR and their surges (see pictures below). Both of these images appear to have two dragons facing each other (or at least what I think are dragons, for they look a lot like what I would imagine a dragon looking like). In the case of the KR picture, you can see the entire body of both the dragons, while in the map of the Shattered Plains only the heads can be seen, yet they are unmistakably the same heads as the ones in the picture of the KR. If you think they look like something else be sure to comment it! I am unsure about what this means, but I believe that it most likely has to do with the reason the plains are shattered in addition to something about, most likely the founding of, the Knights Radiant. There is also a glyph repeated, forming a frame, around the side of the picture of the KR. I have drawn it so it can be seen easier. I am unsure what this glyph means, though I am pretty sure it is important as it is in the very first page of the Stormlight Archive in addition to being displayed largely on Sanderson's webpage, or if the meaning of it is known. If the meaning of it is known please tell me! Here are the photos that were talked about. I have circled and labeled the parts I talked about for your convenience. KR: Shattered Plains: I apologize if it is hard to read. Look for the text and then follow the arrows from them if you cannot find the circles.
