  1. (Not sure if this should go under General Brandon Discussion). So Brandon's supporting the Altered Perceptions anthology being funded to help Robison Wells, and part of the anthology is around 5 chapters of WoK Prime when Kaladin makes a drastically different decision....and because the funding just hit a milestone, Brandon's released an excerpt of that on his website. NOTE: IT'S NOT CANON. It's an earlier draft. The characters are surprisingly similar, the main things that threw me off were the names (and wondering how Feather will react to a Renarin appearance ). So the Parshendi were Prallan, Adolin was Aredor, and there was something called the Thoughtgiver? I wonder if that's an earlier version of the Nightwatcher, which may fit with that theory that she affects people's perception/mental boons and curses. Interestingly as well, at this point Brandon had Renarin actively, yet hopelessly in battle. What do you guys think of it?

  4. So I've heard rumors that there are drawings in the books, Is this True? I listened to the Books, so I don't know. If it is true, Could someone post them here? Thanks!
  5. The chart that Issac Stewert created, showing the ten orders of Knights Radiant and the ten surges shows lines connecting the various glyphs. Below I have a picture with the lines highlighted in different colors: Green = Surges for each of the different orders Blue and Orange = A "racetrack" type of organization for Orders and Surges respectively - - (Although, I'm not sure. If that were the case why not keep all the Orders on the outside, and Surges on the inside? If it were rearranged that way it would look like a wheel with the red lines becoming the spokes.) Red = ...No idea. Decoration perhaps? Anyone have any thoughts on this?
  6. So this might be a silly question but whatever happened to danlan she was still officially courting Adolin by the end of wok but up and disappeared in wor....?
  7. Okay I've stared this thread to see what people think of the character developments so far by the end of Wor. So Kaladin wow I'll admit I was a little frustrated by him in parts but looking back in wor his journey was a necessary one. He had a alot of pent up frustration and unresolved issues eating away at him by the end of wok and I think we can safely say that he really needed to figure out and grasp his role and place in the grand scheme of things that's not to say he's done growing as a person not by a long shot but he's getting there. I think we can safely say that his going home in the next book will be an intriguing development especially when it comes to the place and people of his childhood and seeing there reactions especially that of his parents who I'm guessing probably think he's dead. Now for Shallan gotta say wasn't to rapped up in her character in wok but boy did wor bring out the inner deemed child lol. She went from meek to evil genius and that tongue and sparky humorous later on was just awesome. The flash backs where a little predictable but I got the feeling they where less about explaining her character and more about setting up and laying a foundation for future events dun dun duhhhhhhh. By the end of the book she was definitely more capable as a person however I got the feeling that she was still uncertain about who she was but I get the feeling that that well be worked out in the next instalment soon enough. Adolin hmmmmm wasn't to thrilled with his development I thought was a decent enough character in the last book if a little closeminded. I noticed that with the duels and increasing danger and ever increasing odds that his chapter has turned into a real adrenalin junky the arena and his decision to continue in the four on one bout demonstraighted this. I thought his questioning his place in his relationship with Shallan just before he went postal on Sadias was a little showing and worrying but I guess we will just have to wait and watch to see how he deals with his actions. Okay so Im curious as to your opinions of there developments so far and how you think it may impact there relationships in the future.... Thoughs??????
  8. Okay so this is going to sound stupid but in the 4 thousand years that these people have had shardplate the only thing/sport they seem to use it in is duelling.... Shardplate Tennis people or rugby or grid iron...... Shardplate figure skating lol
  9. Spoilers. I've finally started my final reread of the Way of Kings (what with Words of Radiance being so close), and I've already made a theory. The Battlefield mentioned in tWoK prologue/prelude thing... is what later becomes the shattered plains. Or so I think. Now of course, this isn't our modern-day Shattered Plains. But keep in mind, what we're seeing here is hundreds of years prior to the rest of the book. It sounds like something that might eventually turn into the SP, right? Especially when you remember that, after all, crem does grow stone... sort of.I haven't checked every WoB, but I saw nothing 'bout this during a cursory check. I also searched the forums and saw nothing about this idea, sorry if it already exists. Edit: added a sentence or two. Or so.
  10. Whilst rereading WoK I found this death quote at the beginning of chapter 53: "He must pick it up, the fallen title! The tower, the crown, and the spear!" I personally find it an interesting quote that most likely refers to Kaladin due to the spear. I think it may refer to Kaladin going to Urithiru (the tower), becoming head of the KR (the crown) and collecting a special spear, a shardspear perhaps? Just curious as to what your thoughts are?
  11. I was watching King of the Nerds (reality show) on TBS tonight and they had the cover art from Way Of Kings on one of the walls! I paused the show, yelled excitedly, annoyed my wife, and generally got excited. It was cool to see Brandon get some pop culture love. I'd try to do a screen grab, but I'm not very good at internet.
  12. I sort of proposed this theory in another thread, but wasn't ready to commit to it at the time. I still can't come up with a better idea. So here it is: Gaz is a Herald. As I've been puzzling over Gaz's disappearance, I've always been struck by the following quote: page 473: It makes me wonder exactly how old Gaz is. This seems to be a really important thing to be said. It sounds like he feels like he's worthless because he gave up on his honor and he doesn't deserve a better life than he has right now. It would also make his statement about ending up in a bridge crew very telling. What would happen to a herald who died a normal death? Would he end up in damnation? that would be plenty of motivation to leave the armies at the Shattered Plains. Being a bridge sergeant was relatively protected. Gaz = Herald could impact the motivations of other many other characters including Hoid. Which Herald is he? I don't know. If Vev is female, it can't be her, despite the connection to the eyes. If Jezrien is in the WoK prologue, then I'd guess Ishtar. Thoughts?
  13. Hi! So ... can someone please explain the cover of WoK to me? Its been bothering me to no end. I remembered reading something about it recently, where Brandon commented on it, but I couldn't for the life of me find the reference again. So, the cover of WoK. Is it Eshonai on the cover in the foreground saluting with a Shardblade? If so, who is in the background? It can't be Dalinar, because the figure in the background appears to be holding a spear. Is it Kaladin in the background? If so, who is in the foreground? Dalinar? I don't remember Dalinar saluting Kaladin when he was holding a spear. If anyone can shed some light on it, I'd appreciate it. Maybe I'm thinking about it too much, while I'm trying to waste away my time waiting on WoR to come out.... Thanks
  14. Oh look: my first theory. I'm not even sure I believe this, it's just a possibility, which seems slightly less likely the alternative. Anyway here it is: On the back cover of TWoK, it says something along the lines of "One of them may redeem us, one may destroy us," (probably not exactly that, I don't have the book on me) from a list of Dalinar, Szeth, Shallan, or Kaladin. It's probably not Kaladin or Shallan, seeing as the same passage talks about how "I believe Surgebinding and Soulcasting can return," (again, probably not exactly that) and Shallan and Kaladin are doing those. So Szeth or Dalinar. Szeth it would be easy to make the case for, because he's going around and killing everyone etc. However, the thing about Dalinar is that he's misinterpreting (we assume) the visions he's getting (from Honor, we assume [know?]), as meaning that he should unite Alethkar, and not the Shards against Odium. And our friend Taravangian says, quite directly, that Dalinar "must not unite the Highprinces." And I'm inclined to think that Taravangian is more trustworthy here than Dalinar, because Dalinar is from the super-warlike Alethi culture, whereas Taravangian is apparently very good at keeping Kharbaranth at peace and also has none of Odium's Shardblades or Plates. So. That's it. What do you think?
  15. I was poking around the forums, and saw a quote in a signature tag. The quote was the one about "The THree once reigned, but now the Broken One reigns." or some such thing. Everyone knows there i =s something weird about Odium, but I was wondering if the phrase Broken One is more than just an empty title. What if Odium was shattered at some point in the past, and Rayse reforged it by killing everyone the shard had invested. The other shards have spent some of their power by investing their people, but Odium doesn't Invest anyone, so he retains more of his power. So he isn't stronger technically, his power is just all in one place.
  16. I'm new to this website, though not new to Sanderson. I was lucky enough to audit his creative writing class at BYU. And the off the wall theory is: Miles death proclamation could very well be referring to Sadeas and Elhokar. They are "men" and they wear "red and gold"(their shardplate), respectively. Why Miles would speak of them is beyond me... and might indicate I wanted to post at least one theory, harebrained though it might be.
