  1. Hey, in case you missed our news post earlier this week, Brandon has released a new novel! Lux: A Texas Reckoners Novel is out now, exclusively on Audible. Lux was co-written with Steven Michael Bohls and produced by Mainframe, Brandon’s audiobook company with Max Epstein. The first four chapters are up on Brandon's youtube channel, alongside a short "behind the scenes" video with Brandon, Steven, and Max where they discuss the making of this Audible Original. Steven also appeared as a guest on one of Brandon's livestreamed signing sessions. As with most of his releases, Brandon sent out a newsletter to announce the new book, but he slipped in a few other juicy tidbits as well. Most notably is the "Newsletter Exclusive Fiction" segment, where Brandon shared an early draft of the Prologue of The Lost Metal. He also read the prologue at JordanCon last weekend (which has been transcribed over on Arcanum). Next, the Brandon Sanderson online store is no more! In its place a new contender has arrived, Dragonsteel Books. The rebranding is still in progress but keep an eye on the store and its communication channels over the next few weeks. (Which communication channels these are exactly isn't entirely clear, but it probably would not hurt to follow Brandon's twitter account.) Also, with the Kickstarter fulfillment being largely wrapped-up, (unsigned) hardcovers for Dawnshard and The Way of Kings Prime are available now! If you missed out on the Kickstarter and want to pick one or both of these up, act fast. Dragonsteel will not be reprinting these. However, Brandon said they will be coming to UK websites at a later point (and I suspect, like Edgedancer, Tor will eventually release it).
  2. So, I've been re-reading Stormlight in preparation for Oathbringer(and assiduously avoiding the chapters as they come out... it's hard, though...), as well as the Way of Kings Prime snippets. I just re-read the duel between Adolin and the four shardbearers, in which he doesn't have his dead mothers "lucky" necklace. It always just seemed a good luck charm, and that's probably what it is. But... in Way of Kings Prime, Merin(Kaladin) had a strange glyphward necklace stuck in his gauntlet, that gave him increased fighting ability. I'm wondering if it's possible that that is related to Adolin's necklace. Rather, I'm pretty sure it HAS to be, it's too similar. I'm wondering HOW it's related. Is it simply a tribute? Or, perhaps, is it a remnant kept over, that in fact DOES help Adolin when he's fighting? (Not to diminish him at all, he's pretty stormblasted amazing without it.)
  3. Good morning! Tor.com has posted Oathbringer chapters 13-15. Check out our forum topic on chapters 13-15, and for all Oathbringer preview chapters--and their discussion topic--check out the Oathbringer Preview Chapter Index. As usual, keep Oathbringer discussion in our Oathbringer Spoiler Board and the #oathbringer_spoilers channel in the 17th Shard Discord. Do not post Oathbringer material elsewhere! There's also two more Way of Kings Prime Chapters: Merin 3 and Merin 4. Prime continues to be a profoundly different story than the one we know but It's fascinating to see glimmers of what it will one day be. There have also been two Annotations for The Way of Kings posted, one for the world map, and one for the prelude. In other news the Kaladin album Kickstarter funded yesterday, ultimately raising $112,667! They have also announced that they will be composing the full album. The second half of the songs will be digital, rather than recorded instruments, but they are going to try to record at least the strings for them.
  4. (Not sure if this should go under General Brandon Discussion). So Brandon's supporting the Altered Perceptions anthology being funded to help Robison Wells, and part of the anthology is around 5 chapters of WoK Prime when Kaladin makes a drastically different decision....and because the funding just hit a milestone, Brandon's released an excerpt of that on his website. NOTE: IT'S NOT CANON. It's an earlier draft. The characters are surprisingly similar, the main things that threw me off were the names (and wondering how Feather will react to a Renarin appearance ). So the Parshendi were Prallan, Adolin was Aredor, and there was something called the Thoughtgiver? I wonder if that's an earlier version of the Nightwatcher, which may fit with that theory that she affects people's perception/mental boons and curses. Interestingly as well, at this point Brandon had Renarin actively, yet hopelessly in battle. What do you guys think of it?
