  1. Hey guys I just reviewed Warbreaker on my Youtube channel, I hope you enjoy!
  2. BEWARE! THERE WILL BE ALL OF THE LORE SPOILERS FOR DAWNSHARD AHEAD! I only put this post here instead of the dawnshard board because there is a bit of things relating to RoW, and I’m not supposed to put spoilers for RoW in the dawnshard forum. So. Endowment. Let’s break down the magic system. We have heightenings and the whole breath thing. The hightenings come from breaths being grafted onto your spiderweb, as seen in dawnshard. They are very color-oriented. They make colors pop. This is very useful to know given that color is a fundamental part of shards. We have their light or color, and the anti-light, and color. This doesn’t seems to be a specifically Roshar thing. Correct me if I’m wrong, but you can have anti-Ruin light and so on. So perfect color recognition helps in that respect. it also helps with perfect pitch. That allows you to make the anti-light in the first place much more easily. so basically, the heightenings are very useful for creating anti-investiture. Endowment has created a magic system to specifically allow for this type of thing, with the breaths sticking to your spiderweb, and whatnot. now there are commands. These are based off of Intent and Command, which we learn in Dawnshard is the fundamental part of all of magic in the Cosmere. In other worlds, it is more veiled. The command is symbols in Sel and the molecular composition in Scadrial. But in Nalthis, it is just verbal, which is the most fundamental form there is. The third part is investing objects. This makes them harder to tamper with and make much more powerful objects, such as Nightblood. The final part is the divine breaths, which is all about stapling the cognitive shadow to the physical realm. This is seen in many other systems, but this is given so freely by Endowment, and she made it part of the magic system as well. Nalthis’ magic system seems to be made off of the fundamental building blocks of the cosmere. It is built to allow gateways to all parts of the Cosmere’s magic, within easy and straightforward access. This is quite surprising and quite dangerous. What is Endowment doing? She has plots that involves all of the raw power of the Cosmere within easy access. Why is she doing this? And what does it mean? This is a thing that seems very deliberate on Endowment’s part. I’m quite worried how dangerous she might become later on.
  3. This is an article I wrote a couple of months back about foreshadowing in fantasy. It is one of my favorite topics to talk about, as evidenced by this, and how I immediately jumped to the chance of being on the Dusty Wheel's episode on foreshadowing. I'd love to discuss it with all of you, and hear your opinions on the topic. Copy_of_Foreshadowing.pdf
  4. The magic system on Nalthis involves manipulating investiture using commands. A single command using a massive amount of investiture was used to create Nightblood. Is Edgil attempting to use Returned in order to create new Dawnshards, or new manifestations of Dawnshards?
  5. I wasn't sure whether I should post this on the warbreaker or mistborn forum, so here it is: If you gave a mistwraith enough breath for it to become sapient, would the result effectively be a kandra made without hemalurgy? If so, then Harmony would have no influence over it, but would Endowment?
  6. So, could an awakener, with enough breath, tell an object to be something else, mimicking soulcasting? (Ex: Become Smoke/Air/Stone)
  7. Finished! Nine characters from eight Shardworlds! From left to right: Dusk from First of the Sun / Kaladin from Roshar / Vasher from Nalthis / Hoid from Yolen / Harmony (Sazed) / Khriss from Taldain / Shai from Sel / Vin from Scadrial / Silence from Threnody This piece is also celebratory art! Happy Chinese New Year 2016 (Year of the monkey)! At first I drew these characters mainly for an online fantasy magazine because they kind of let me (as translator of WoR) introduce Stormlight and the whole Cosmere series in their New Year issue, which meant I’d better add some festival stuff. So here it is - Characters from eight different Shardworlds wishing you a Happy New Year! In China, this is a popular traditional gesture when people give New Year’s greetings. It’s called 作揖 (zuò yī, in spoken language: zuō yī). When you do this, you make a bow with hands folded in front of you and greet others at the same time. Raise your folded hands and then lower them. The motion can be repeated several times. For men, they should use their left hand to cover their right hand (In ancient China, men tended to hold weapon with their right hand, so they covered it when saluting, to reduce hostility and show respect.), while for women, they should do it otherwise and it’s better not to clench the left hand into a fist (You can learn this from the picture above.). If you do it wrong, you will convey some ominous meaning. Please be careful # # # Heck, so many tags! Also seriously, I think we may need a Cosmere crossover art album
  8. Hey! I collected all of Hoid's stories in a document! This is for your theorizing pleasure, and for potential memorization! Hoid's Stories I was interested in reading all of them, so I collected them, and couldn't think of a better place to share them than here!. I included the Wandersail (Way of Kings Chapter 57), Fleet (Words of Radiance Chapter 59), The Girl Who Looked Up (Combined both Shallan's Version and Hoid's, Oathbringer Chapters 25 and 82), Mishim and Tsa (Oathbringer Chapter 67), The Dragon and the Dog (Rhythm of War Chapter 80), The Origin of the God Kings (Warbreaker Chapter 32) Hoid’s Stories.pdf Hoid’s Stories.txt
  9. Pretty shocked we never got one of these up, but anyway, who is your personal favorite character in Warbreaker and why? Me personally? I deeply feel that Lightsong is one of the greatest characters Brandon has ever created and it will always hurt me a little that we only had him for one book and never got to see him interact with Nightblood. "I try to avoid having thoughts. They lead to other thoughts, and-if you're not careful-those lead to actions. Actions make you tired. I have this on rather good authority from someone who once read it in a book." Lightsong.
  10. So I was wondering how you can get more breath without needing to have it given willingly. It’s a fairly simple question. But it is a complex solution. one option is taking it from a lifeless awakener’s stuff. This is a in-world cheat, but it has to be in a very particular scenario. So it’s not quite for the average person. another option is through blanking your identity or adopting another person’s spiritual identity. This will allow anything you make to be taken by anyone without need for consent if it is stored in an object, and possibly even taking it from other people’s objects, kind of like stealing metalminds. That one is a tough one, given that the only way we know how to do that (as far as I’m aware) is through aluminumminds. It is a tough thing to pull of for an ordinary person, again. A third option is nicrosil compounding. Sadly, it requires a very rare set of powers. It is definitely not for the average person, but it is the easiest way to get a TON of breaths with the least amount of effort. A fourth option is kind of cheating the system. This is using rioting and soothing. They still have to give it willingly, but you can manipulate their willingness to do it. Still not for everyone, but more common than the other three. this fifth one is the easiest for the average person to do, but it is the least effective. That is through drugging someone. This can be through normal alcohol or through more serious stuff. This will be doing what a soother or rioter can do, but more...diluted. It will not be a sure way to get it, but it makes it easier. that is the list of knowledge I know, but there is doubtlessly more. Can the grand beings of the shard come up with more?
  11. Okay, important. So if you get the fifth weighting, you cannot age whatsoever. What happens when you give up some of your breath and lose the fifth heightening? Does the age catch up or do you continue aging where they left off? Also, just because every time I hear functionally immortal I become suspicious, when they say immortal, they mean immortal right? They cannot age period? Just wanna confirm that, because me planning on something, and this is vital to said plan. (Also, does anyone know what the hell is the currency used in Nathline?) (Also, yes, i made the same thread in Cosmere Q&A. I wanted to increase my chances of getting answered, also, I'm impatient. Also, i swear nobody looks at Q&A)
  12. Okay, I currently don't have access to the book to double check, but it's hinted that Lightsong and Blushweaver had lots of people in bed during their times as gods right? just want this clarified .
  13. Rhythm of War had some interesting revelations about the leadership of the Ghostbloods and Sons of Honor, with what I thought was one glaring omission. Restares, aka Kelek/Kalak, is a Herald and cognitive shadow with an interest in leaving the Rosharan system but can't seem to figure out how. Thaidakar, whether or not you think the Lord of Scars is from Scadrial, is a cognitive shadow who is looking for more information on cognitive shadow-hood and can't seem to leave this planet. It seems notable that there are no major interactions between either faction and Talaxin (Zahel). After all, he's a cognitive shadow who has left his home planet on more than one occasion and has continued to exist for a significant period of time. It seems like he'd be able to help them both out. I don't recall any WoBs on the topic, but thought it was worth bringing up.
  14. TL;DR: ALL of Investiture in the cosmere seems to be, like Stormlight or Voidlight, composed of unique vibrations or pulses. And so, like Stormlight and Voidlight - can it all somehow be combined and/or inverted? I had something of a revelation today, while writing gay fic of all things, and I thought I would share and try to get other peoples' thoughts. Because I might have noticed a connection, but I'm definitely not smart enough to figure out what it means, lol. So, one of Navani's biggest breakthroughs in understanding the various forms of Light on Roshar was realising that Stormlight, Voidlight, Lifelight etc are not just light, not liquid, but sound. Vibration. This allowed her to combine the lights with Raboniel, and it also allowed her to discover its opposite. A large breakthrough for understanding Investiture on Roshar. Except that this is not the only kind of Investiture in the Cosmere we've seen that has vibration as a core part of its nature. Allomancy. Allomancy gives off allomantic pulses to seekers who are burning bronze. Allomancy gives off DISTINCT allomantic pulses, as we saw in the scene where Marsh shows Vin how to use it in The Final Empire. Each metal, when burned, gives off a distinct and unique vibration. Something that can be used to determine a pulling/pushing metal, to determine which specific metal is being burned, and even if it's being flared. The power at the Well of Ascension also pulsed, and so did the 'mist spirit'. Allomancy, as Investiture, also has a unique vibration attached to each source. In Warbreaker, Breaths require sound to activate - they require a carefully, clearly spoken Commands in order to Awaken. They also grant a holder perfect pitch. The Iridescent Tones form a core part of the Nalthis belief system. While not as explicit as in Mistborn, Investiture here also has a clear vibrational component. In Elantris, seons pulse when they speak, and their aons glow. Raoden explains and understands accessing the Dor via drawing different shapes (aons) through which the power can access the physical realm from where it is trapped in the cognitive realm. However, he notes that his books on the topic describe the process via 'pulse length and frequency', which he doesn't understand, but, in the context of all Investiture having a unique vibration to it, makes sense to me. Do I have any idea what this means in real-terms for the cosmere going forwards, and the potential applications of this knowledge in terms of combining, inverting, or altering different forms of Investiture, but this is why I'm posting it here for you smart people to engage with and give me the answers.

  17. We talk about Returned, Returned healing, memory, perception, new God Kings, Vo, and the Royal Locks. Oh and Austrism. And... health insurance. Vroom vroom. No Rhythm of War spoilers, but there are Warbreaker and cosmere spoilers. We have Eric (Chaos), Evgeni (Argent), Grace (thegatorgirl), and Ben (Overlord Jebus). This is our second to last episode before Rhythm of War's release. Our last one will be Dawnshard, which ideally will be out so we can keep up our biweekly cadence, but we will see! 19. This week's chapter lets us know that Vasher's moved from classifying BioChromatic Entities into classifying Invested Entities, with a slightly different system. What are your guesses for the new system? BioChromatic Entities: Type 1-- Returned (Human soul (or copy of soul) stapled back to body with investiture) Type 2-- Lifeless (Human/Animal body reanimated with investiture, but no soul) Type 3-- Awakened organics (ordinary awakening) Type 4--Awakened inorganics (nightblood) Invested Entities: Type 1--Sentient Investiture (Spren, maybe seons, anything else?) Type 2--Cognitive shadow (including returned, heralds, fused) Type 3?--Possibly lifeless, possibly bloodsealers' creations? Type 4?--Possibly Awakened objects? Maybe soul-stamped materials? Type 5??--nightblood? My best guess is that he just shifted his types down a number to include spren, but I've seen some people suggest that what used to be Type 1&2 are now all Type 2. I'm not sure if the division between type 3/4/5 have any application outside of Awakening either. I wonder if there's a difference in soul stamping between organic and inorganic materials? We see Shai working with clay, stone, glass, wood, and other materials. Are bloodsealers' pets in the same category as lifeless?
  20. After reading chapter 15 today, we learned that Vasher believes type 2 invested entities are a cognitive copy of the person's soul. It seems like the Fused and the Heralds are going insane due to Generation Loss, a cognitive copy is made from the copy, resulting in deterioration of the "soul" over time. Every time that a Herald or Fused dies, rather than being transported to Braize, their cognitive shadow is copied, discarded / dies, and the copy is placed on Braize. This would mean that the Fused, because they can come back immediately in every everstorm, would be experiencing an accelerated decline into insanity.
  21. Siri, how I picture her at least. She's my favorite Warbreaker character. Drawn by hand, so it's not all that good.
  22. From Chapter 13 we read "When she became Veil, the colors in the room… muted. The colors didn’t change, but her perception shifted. Shallan would have described those strata lines as rust colored, but to Veil they were just red." The color difference here should make anyone who has read Warbreaker thing of BioChromatic breath and it made me wonder what is going on. I heard someone else mention that maybe there is something going on like maybe she's a Returned. I wonder now if something like what happened with Susebron where someone gave her breaths, but maybe not enough to make a strong difference (not 50 enough for the first heightening(I know Susebron has a lot more - the connection I'm seeing is that if this happened, it likely happened while Shallan was very young). Could someone have breathes for so long and not notice it? If not these reasons, why do you think this detail is here? And why does it change when she becomes Veil? I came here less with answers and more to start a discussion I'm curious about. Thoughts?
