Hello everyone So for those of you who read Warbreaker, you know who Vivenna is. We know that Vasher and Nightblood are on Roshar, so I think that if she's not dead Vivenna might be there too. I don't have any of the Stormlight books with me on vacations so I can't search but does anyone have an idea of where she is. It's possible she's changed her appearence (it was mentionned at the end of Warbreaker that she could do this) but if there's two minor characters with nearly the same description except for their hair than we can suppose it's her and that she has changed her appearence. Hey guys! Sorry if this is a re-post or derivative post or anything, but I saw axcellence's topic about what scenes people want to see in OB and most of what I could think of was seeing glimpses of our cosmerenauts showing up around Roshar: Zahel seeing Szeth with Nightblood... stuff like that. Got me to thinking that in the grand scheme of things Oathbringer is in all probability going to be the most cosmere-intensive book to date that Brandon's come along with, even if it's just what Jasnah has to say about her travels through the Cognitive Realm. We know worldhoppers have cropped up on Roshar more than any other planet so far and it seems to be a bit of a hub, so my question is... who do you want to see around Roshar from other planets? And what do you want them to be doing? Personally I'm a fan of the whole 'if Vasher is on Roshar then Vivenna must be hanging around there somewhere too' idea, so I'd love to see Vivenna show up... potentially as the queen of Theylenah (bit of a stretch but I'm a sucker for a good twist!)

So i was reading one of the chapters with Zahel, and when he said "He half expected a voice to talk to him, but of course there wasn't. There hadn't been one in ages," (paraphrased), I first thought that he was a Radiant, but then i thought, could he actually be Vasher, and that voice be Nightblood? I haven't finished Warbreaker, but from reading a few posts, I've gotten the idea that Vasher left the planet. So, could Zahel be the Warbreaker? Please tell me if I'm right or just being stupid. Thanks!

Ok, my first post. MISTCLOAKS Since the first time I read about mistcloaks they seemed... unnecessary. The explanations to their existence are tenuous at best - 'It's colored and constructed to hide you in the mist,' Kelsier said. 'And it warns city guards and other Mistborn not to bother you.' He spun, letting the cloak flare dramatically. 'I think it suits me.' ” —Kelsier[1] First of all - we're talking about mists. they hide and obscure shape anyway. At night, in the mists, I don't think the color or exact shape of the garment will make much difference. Secondly, if the reason is to give warning - that this is a full mistborn and should not be trifled with - than we are talking about the exact opposite of camouflage. The explanations contradict one another. They sound like rationalizations of a tradition with obscure beginning. However... the design would be extremely useful to an awakener. Vasher is kinda like Hoid, thousands-of-years-old worldhopper, one the cosmere elite magic users. We know that he can use Stormlight instead of Breath to sustain himself and Nightblood... Could he also be an "ancient" allomancer? Maybe he started the mistborn fashion of wearing Awakener's cloaks. What do you think?

Discussing the Cosmere with a friend of mine, and we were considering who'd win in a straight up fight against the Lord Ruler.The obvious combatants we pitted him against was Kaladin and Vasher. The discussion raised two points we couldn't agree upon, so I'd like to know peoples opinions. 1) Would Nightblood view the Lord Ruler as evil? He had good intentions but ultimately acted in a tyrannical way. Assuming he is affected by Nightblood, would the metallic arts function the same as breaths for how Nightblood draws out investiture? 2) Surgebinders can use investiture to heal from a shardblade attack (according to the Coppermind, I can't remember this happening but my friend tells me Szeth cut Kaladin who healed from it via stormlight. Would the Metallic arts count as investiture to heal a shardblade attack, if so, could the Lord Rulers compounded Gold keep him alive long enough to beat Kaladin in a fight? This point is assuming Kaladin is in possession of his full surgebinder abilities also.

Hey everybody, I know this stuff is probably easy to find and I am not trying to use you guys as my personal Wiki, but I was wondering if anybody can help me out. It has been a while since I read Warbreaker and I am unable to search for stuff on line. So any help is appreciated. So endowment lets individuals return, generally to fulfill specific purposes, correct? The returned do not know what their "mission" is until its pretty much time to complete it, correct? Vasher has not fulfilled his yet? Working on a theory and I was trying to think of the answers but couldnt recall any hard info about this stuff.

On page 600 of AU, I noticed something that sounded really familiar to a game that a confirmed Worldhopper from Nalthis has played in the Stormlight Archive, Zahel/Vasher. "The children seemed to love it. They ran up and down the steps, laughing and giggling. Others sat in circles on the ground, playing games with painted pebbles." This game seems awfully familiar to the game that we saw Zahel playing. "Kaladin marched them up to Zahel, who stood at the back of the sand-covered courtyard. Though the other ardents all busied themselves carrying water, towels, or sparring weapons to dueling lighteyes, Zahel had drawn a circle in the sand and was throwing little colored rocks into it." This could mean a number of things: The game that Zahel/Vasher brought over from Nalthis (Travel edition of Tarachin) has spread to other places in Roshar, and is played by many. The kids that live in the orphanage learned the game from "The Stump" (the lady who runs the orphanage). The Stump just learned it from other people playing it on Roshar The Stump might be a Worldhopper, or knows Worldhoppers, and learned the game from one or both of those possible facts. The kids learned it from the guy who might be Hoid. Other reasons that I have not thought of... Did anyone else notice this, am I crazy, is it just coincidence?

I've just finished another reread of Warbreaker, and (as usual) it left me with a couple of questions I hadn't noticed before. Do we know how exactly Lifeless are broken? It seems that it is easier for the God King because of his sheer amount of Investiture... Why? I doubt they would use an Awakener of the Eighth Heightening every time they want to break a Lifeless' command phrase. Also, Lightsong mentioned somewhere that it involves torture, to which Blushweaver noted the fact that Lifeless don't feel pain... I'm confused. (I have seen it theorized that it involves the command Vasher used to make Nanrovah's daughter forget, but how would the logistics work?) Why is grey considered the absence of color? We know the God King can pull color even from a grey object (making it bone white), but why is grey considered a lack of color in the first place? Why does his blood become translucent? Shouldn't it become grey?

As I recall, there is a WoB out there that states that Vasher/Zahel survives on Roshar using stormlight to fuel his life instead of breath. Well, that all makes sense. I can see why one kind of investiture would be as good a fuel as another. I suppose absorbing stormlight is very convenient for a returned Vasher, because it is a lot less rare than breath, plus he probably has access to it's healing properties and the like. But. How exactly is he absorbing stormlight? Regular people don't do that! So. The fact that he can absorb it in the first place only has a few possible explanations. Each of them have very interesting implications. Let us examine them. Explanation 1: There is a trick that will let anyone absorb stormlight, and only Vasher knows it (maybe some kind of fabrial...?). This trick is how he is able to breath stormlight. This would be extremely interesting because that means everyone can theoretically use a ubiquitous resource on Roshar to gain supernatural strength, speed, and healing. This is fairly unlikely, because I can't really see how the story would work if some day people figure this out, and then everyone on Roshar is suddenly superhuman. Explanation 2: This has something to do with the fact that Vasher is returned. Somehow, his status of returned is letting him breath stormlight. I have no idea why being returned would let him do this, but it seems like a sensible explanation. This would also in turn mean that a lot of returned would probably find it convenient to move to Roshar. I would probably say this explanation is the second most likely, even though the mechanism for how this could work is (at least right now) unclear. Explanation 3: This one is quite unlikely. But possibly why Vasher can use stormlight is because he is actually a radiant. Perhaps after the events in Warbreaker, he eventually became one of the first radiants, probably around the time Jasnah was discovering her powers. I doubt it, but we can't rule it out I suppose. Explanation 4: This one is in my opinion the most interesting. And I believe it is also the most likely option. Vasher has an honorblade. Most honorblades are held by the Shin (one of them of coarse being wielded by Szeth), but there is also reason to believe that some of them are missing from the Shin. When Taravangian was lying to Szeth about one of the blades disappearing (to explain Kaladin's powers), I think he said something like "one of the eight" disappeared. That means the Shin own eight of the ten. I am pretty sure Nalan has one of the missing blades, because Lift witnessed him wield a shardblade and use stormlight. I believe Vasher secretly owns the second missing blade. That lines up with everything we know so far. And this happens to be the only known mechanism for someone who doesn't take radiant oaths to be able to do what Vasher is apparently doing. So, in conclusion, Vasher probably owns an honorblade I guess. He seems to have some kind of affinity for extremely invested swords.

Do we have any theories on how strong Vasher is on Roshar? We know that he's still suppressing his Divine Breath, and that he's at least hacked the magic systems enough to survive on Stormlight/raw Investiture rather than Breaths. My thoughts are as follows; What effect would the red lightning (Voidlight? o3o) have on him with regards to living? How does his body differentiate between using up his Stormlight stockpile and his Breath stockpile? I assume he still has a stockpile of Breath for the Weeping, or some stored in clothes etc like emergency rations. When he absorbs Stormlight, does he glow like Kaladin would, or can he suppress it like Shallan does with her Lightweaving? Since we have WOB that he's been on Roshar before the events of WOK, has he met any of the Heralds? He certainly knows the stances of swordsmanship well... did he have a hand in creating them? And finally... how strong is Vasher? We know it's possible to fuel a Returned with Stormlight, so it stands to reason it can fuel Awakening too... but would the Stormlight run out of the Awakened object at the natural rate of disappation of a Lashing or being infused in a sphere? What about a Stormlight fuelled Lifeless? Would it be able to function for more than a few minutes? I'm just wondering if during a Highstorm, after seeing a Thunderclast and figuring out the visualisation, Vasher could make one of his own with Stormlight-fueled Awakening. Or an army of Stormlight Lifeless that would be able to fight on for the duration of the storm. Of course the Thunderclast would require the Heightening that allows for bringing rock and metal to life... but we don't yet know the rate of conversion for Breath and Stormlight. Does one Broam equal one Nathalian Breath? Does one Highstorm equal enough Breath to reach the Fourth Heightening? We don't see in the narrative anyone notice pockets of bright colour or changes in it around Zahel, so he doesn't have much Breath on him when he meets Kaladin, enough to notice at least. Though Kaladin would have other things on his mind, and unless the effect was striking enough to make a Darkeyes' eyes seem bright while being close to Zahel I doubt the Alethi would notice anyway. I wonder if Stormlight Heightenings would have the same kind of effect as Biochroma with the hack? Anyways, what do you all think? 1| page 1050 of the original WoR Kindle edition Kaladin arrives in Uruthiru with Szeth's Honorblade. As far as I know this scene is the last we see of the Honorblade. I am assuming Kaladin left the Honorblade with Dalinar which then leads me to the interesting tidbit - when the Stone Shamans learn of Szeth's "death" how will they go about recovering the Honorblade from Dalinar? Szeth mentioned at some point (forgot to mark the spot) that his people were not worried about recovering the blade after his death. Could this be a significant conflict in the coming third book? Will the Shin send powerful warriors wielding the other Honorblades? Silent assassins? Proto-radiants of some kind? 2| page 976 of the original WoR Kindle edition "Kaladin stood in the rain. “Do you know where the King’s Wit is?” “That fool, Dust? Not here, blessedly. Why?”" This scene is Kaladin speaking to Zahel while Kaladin is recovering from his injuries and wrestling with his conscience over the plot against Elhokar. Note how Zahel (Vasher) refers to Hoid as "Dust". Hoid and Vasher seem to have met in the past. The name "Dust" seems full of meaning but I cannot really think of what that meaning might be in relation to Nalthis or Roshar. Thoughts?

Do all kinds of Investitures follow the Balance? The Breath Investiture from Warbreaker is a little sketchy. If someone dies, their Breath dies with them. So, when someone is born, where does their Breath come from?

I don't know if this has been discussed before, but the forging of Nightblood seems suspicious. Yes, Vasher and Shashara used about 1000 breaths in awakening Nightblood, but by Vasher's own admission it shouldn't have resulted in a sentient sword. Further as I said in a different post (Why is Nightblood overpowered) for such an important project would Vahser and Shashara really use an ordinary blade? No. As has been stated before (copper mind) Vasher had traveled to Roshar previously and seen a (likely alive) shardblade, an inspiration for Nightblood. Theory: Nightblood was forged from some sort of invested sword, like a shardblade. In other words, they awakened a sword that had already been affected by magic of another shard--feruchemist storage, deceased shardblade, elantrian magic, etc. This could be crazy but even Vasher and Shashara were surprised at the results so it seems like something else happened. It would make sense that Hoid was involved somehow (he's always involved in whatever's important) either giving them a shardblade or...Hoid tends to nudge the actions of others. Personally I like the idea of a deceased shardblade, the infusion of breaths could've revived the spren--to an extent--regaining sentience but bound by its command. Perhaps Nightblood could change shape even, he's never tried, being out of his sheath just once on the record. Thoughts?

Any chance Vivenna is a Worldhopper with Vasher? Vivenna is last seen with Vasher and they seem to have a connection. If anyone on Nalthis would be able to help Vivenna unlock the ability to use Breaths to remain young, it would be him, and I'm guessing she'd want to Worldhop with him if she's still alive

After finding that that dastardly Vasher made it into The Stormlight Archive, I wondered if other godlike characters can world hop such as Sazed. Is it likely Brandon Sanderson will make them all come together in some epic battle for the Cosmere?

Returned that feed of Stormlight I put together this theory about "How could a Returned lives on Roshar for long (maybe infinite) time without Breath supply". First of all begin with "well know facts": - The Returned was dead people resurrected through the Divine Breath. - The Divine Breath is a Splinter of Endowment - A Returned must feed of One-Breath-amount of Investiture every week, or dies. - The Sprens are Shard's Splinters (like Seon). - On Roshar a Bond could grant additional powers. - The Seon-Bond are confirmed to give new powers on Roshar. - There are a Returned on Roshar who could be possible not use Breath to stay alive. Now I would add some of my "thesis" (this are contestable) : - The Returned are Bond with their Divine Breath. - The Roshar's Manifestation of Investiture had two effects: 1) Granted Ability based on the Bond's nature (example: a Seon-Bond doesn't grant the "surges"). 2) Granted the Ability to access to Roshar's Investiture (Stormlight) to use the point 1 Abilities. I have finished this long prologue and began to explain what my theory is: The Returned are Bond to their Divine Breath and on Roshar their Bond granted them addictional Powers. Regardless what this "powers" are, they are granted to the absorption of Stormlight to fuel them. This Stormlight could be used by the Returned to remain alive. A Returned could "suppress" his own Divine Breath every day and "unsuppress" it only when He would/must feed of Stormlight, this could me made directly from ad Highstorm (Dangerous) or quite easy from a Infused Sphere hidden from the Other's sight. If this is true, Roshar is the perfect Returned's Habitat. It offer an abundant Free Investiture (like other Shardworld) and a easy way to use its (otherwise from other Shardworld) to someone with a Bond. I really appreciate your opinion about this theory of mine

Abject speculation: Ishar = Vashar. The “Nahel” bond comes from “Zahel.” One cannot ignore the similarities between Vashar and the original Bondsmith Ishar: "But as for [ishar], his was the part most important at their inception; he readily understood the implications of Surges being granted to men, and caused organization to be thrust upon them; as having too great power, he let it be known that he would destroy each and every one, unless they agreed to be bound by precepts and laws." - WoR Chapter 42 Epigraph Ishar is the “Oathbringer” referred to in the "in-world" book SLA3 is named for. Dalinar is clearly the focus of that novel, but I suspect we will learn a lot about Ishar through "Oathbringer." Now, of all the people on Roshar, who knows more than Vasher about bonding investiture? Who is the most likely person to figure out “the nature of each bond’s placement” (WoR Chapter 35 Epigraph)? I believe this statement refers to the place on each Knight Radiant’s SpiritWeb to which the RadiantSpren must attach for a Knight to access his or her surges. And what inventor/holder of Nightblood would have the means of “destroy[ing] each and every one, unless they agreed to be bound by precepts and laws”? I believe this statement refers to the spren who imitated the Honorblades, rather than the Knights who may have wanted access to the surges. It is the spren who require implementation of the oaths, not the Knights themselves. Before Ishar's enforced agreement on the spren, the spren were "non-discriminating" as to whom they chose to bond with (other than the honorspren). Hence, the Alkavish troubles. Add to that the striking similarity between ”Nahel” and “Zahel.” Nobody else we’ve met in the novels has a similarly-structured name. It’s not even Vorin-sounding (no symmetry). It’s as if Zahel simply decided to turn the “N” 90º into a “Z.” As I said, abject speculation. But interesting…

I was thinking about the interchangeability between breaths and stormlight and had a pretty big epiphany. Since it has been basically confirmed by WoB that Vasher is on Roshar because it is easier to get the investiture he needs to live, wouldn't he need to be able to draw in stormlight and take it in as he would breath? If so does he have a nahel bond? An honorblade? Has he figured out a way to hold stormlight other than the two ways we know of? I am positive that breaths were able to be passed between people fairly easily is because of the shard involved, Endowment, so I think something g similar wouldn't be possible on Roshar, making Surgebinding or an honorblade the most obvious way for him to live under the circumstance of a Returned

This has been stewing in me for a while, so I have been rereading Warbreaker to look for evidence. Correct me if I have missed something and this is already something confirmed or denied. I believe that the way a Returned dies is by consuming their Divine Breath. You look at that and say "well duh," but I'm not finished. I think that for a Returned to be a Returned, with the dreams, the perfect body, etc, they need the Divine Breath. We know that they can Awaken if they have more Breaths than they need to survive, just as the God King did. So what if they stored their Divine Breath somewhere and moved on? They aren't consuming it, but they still don't hold it. Would they turn back into a normal person again? We know that Peacegiver/Vasher was Returned. The book said it a few times, such as when Siri is asking where the God King's wealth of Breath came from or on Page 99 of the hardcover when Vivenna comments on the D'Denir statues. We also know that he doesn't hold his Divine Breath, as he needs Vahr's Breath when he comes back to Hallandren. Speaking of that scene (page 22 of the hardcover), Vasher comments as such: From the Ars Arcanum, we learn that the Fifth Heightening comes at 2000 Breaths, or one Divine Breath. If Vasher can draw forth that Divine Breath again as implied by the quote, he stored it at some point. Now he is mortal and can die, but he still has lived for a very long time, perhaps due to having other Breath, perhaps something different. My questions are thus: -What happens to a Returned when their Divine Breath is stored away? -Do they still gain any powers from having a Divine Breath? -What "sacrifices" would need to be made for Vasher to take back his Divine Breath? -Did Vasher use his Divine Breath to create Nightblood? -Vivenna notices that Vasher's beard never seems to grow more but he never is seen trimming it. Is this just Vasher being secretive or does it connect to him being a Returned? This may be a bit disjointed, but I hope that my point is seen. If anybody has insight or evidence to contradict or support these questions I would love to hear them.

Base Information Names (included for convenience) Personality The man in the Prelude to The Way of Kings has always interested me. This may in fact be the the seed that began this theory. His name is given as Kalak, Herald, Patron of the Willshapers. More than this, his attitude is startalingly similar to another man we have read of in Brandon Sanderson's works. A very old man, with a very youthful body. Bourn down heavily by the weight of his age, his knowledge, his sins, and responsability. Not a man who lives for himself at all; instead, a man who lives to correct the wrongs he wishes he had never created. The man who instructed Kaladin Stormblessed to "Choose the option that makes it easiest for you to sleep at night." After all, "That's what I wish I'd done."

I have a theory that Vasher is allies or friends with Hoid. I believe this for a few reasons. The first is that he is a Worldhopper, and I think Hoid taught him how to do this. Also, he has been on Roshar for around 10 years. We don't know exactly how long Hoid has been on Roshar, but it is very likely that he has been there around the same time. Obviously he can't just go to Roshar and become Wit. So I think they arrived around the same time. Finally, Vasher has been on the Shattered Plains, and so we can presume that he has seen Hoid there. If he was part of the 17th Shard, Galladon, Demoux and Blunt wouldn't have had to search for him. Therefore, I think he is Hoid's friend (possibly watching out for the 17th Shard).

I did a cursory search of the forum and didn't see any discussion of this, so I figured I'd bring it up. I only really "got" the concept of shardpools since I started reading the 17th Shard site regularly, and that was after I'd read Warbreaker. But I was thinking a little more about the Warbreaker universe recently, and it occurred to me: Ichor-alcohol was some mysterious substance that was "discovered" by Yesteel. Could it be that ichor-alcohol is some of the liquid from Endowment's shardpool? I'm initially skeptical of this possibility, since it seems that ichor-alcohol is pretty readily available (i.e. not rare) in Hallandren. But if it's only available in Hallandren and nowhere else, it could still be relatively rare as it relates to all of Nalthis. Or, possibly, the "more potent" ichor-alcohol that Vasher says Yesteel has discovered could be some of the liquid from Endowment's shardpool, if it's more rare. Or it could be that the original ichor-alcohol is a diluted portion of the shardpool liquid and the "more potent" version is simply less diluted. Just something I've been tossing around in my mind. I don't know if it makes sense or not.

Cosmere Spoilers follow but mostly about Stormlight Archives and Warbreaker I had a question involving Zahel/Vasher and his use of Stormlight. It is really a general topic question rather than a specific one. Here is the best way I can phrase what I'm trying to ask: If Vasher is substituting Stormlight for Breath, how much Stormlight can he store? Some Thoughts I've had and others I'm trying to get answers to: Warbreaker places no limit on the amount of Breath you can store. Does his body convert Stormlight to Breath? Does it keep it as Stormlight and run off Stormlight instead of Breath? In either form, can he store it like he stores Breath? Does he glow all the time if it is in Stormlight form? Can he store it for an indefinite amount of time like it is breath? If he can Store an infinite amount and for an indefinite amount of time, is he essentially a giant reserve of Stormlight? I know in WoB he has RFAO'd some of the questions about how different investitures work on different worlds. And in others he said they're Peter questions but might not answer even if he knew. If these questions don't have definitive answers I'm up for some open discussion as well. PS. The closest thing I found in the forums was a discussion on the conversion rate of different investitures. I'm not asking for the ratio, but more of a practical use in how Zahel/Vasher is using Stormlight and the implications of him using Stormlight in a similar way to Breath.

I have been reading through the cosmere books and in each one there is at least one world hopper, SPOILER AHEAD, HIGHLIGHT TO READ [There are around five in words of Radiance] Through research and help from friends I have learned that almost all world hoppers are from other cosmere books. There is at least one person from each world that can world hop so that leads me to believe that it is possible with each magic system. I think it has something to do with traveling through Shadesmar. What are your thoughts on the subject?
