  1. Here's an interesting news piece from San Diego Comic Con. J. Michael Straczynski--of Babylon 5 and Sense8, and a big time TV writer--is working with Brandon Sanderson for a pilot for the USA Network. It's apparently an urban fantasy that JMS says "turns many of the standard tropes upside down." We seem to think this is potentially about Dark One, but we don't actually know. We were told Dark One was a portal fantasy--a person taken from Earth to another world--which isn't quite urban fantasy. This could be something different. It's hard to say at this stage. Edit: Brandon confirmed on Reddit yesterday that this is indeed related to Dark One! Brandon reports that Straczynski has been a lot of fun to work with, but he can't say much more for the time being. Regardless of what this is, I personally am extremely excited about this collaboration. Babylon 5 was one of my very favorite TV shows and I think JMS and Brandon would fit exceptionally well together. We don't know if JMS would work on the show past the pilot, and even if the pilot is produced, that doesn't mean the TV show will actually run. But here's hoping, right? Thanks to The Wertzone for bringing this to our attention!
  2. Following Harriet's statement that a new studio has acquired the right for The wheel of time, what are your thoughts on the matter? Should they try to make it happen or the sheer length of the books in addition to the short time the story takes to conclude (3 years) just make the project impossible? They could go for an animated version though I'm not sure if that would work either. At least that way we won't have actors aging beyond the age of their roles.
  3. The fandom is still positively buzzing from this week's new releases but tonight holds something entirely new for Sanderson fans. Tonight the HISTORY channel premieres a new series "True Monsters" which seeks to delve into the fact and fiction of myths and legends from around the world. The exciting part is that Brandon is one of the experts they brought in to interview. Brandon spoke a little about it in a blog entry posted earlier today. One thing that really stands out to me is that Brandon wasn't chosen just because he is a well-known, and incredibly popular, fantasy author but because he is a college professor who has studied the subject. Here's the description of tonight's episode from the HISTORY channel website: I for one am incredibly excited, though unfortunately I will not be able to stay up and watch it "live". I do plan on recording it so expect some coverage of the episode in the next few days. So, is anyone else as excited as I am? Who is planning on watching? Check out our forum topic here to discuss the show! Photo credits: The Aliens Dragons picture of Brandon from his blog announcement.
  4. Has anyone else started watching this show? I wasn't expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised to find a well-acted, well-written show with an interesting premise that thoughtfully explores all of the ethical and philosophical questions raised.
  5. I've come to a decision as a side project while I get ready to start university in September, to create my own adaptation of The Wheel of Time series as if the showrunners of Game of Thrones, D.B. Weiss and David Benioff decided to make it into a TV series for HBO. Of course, this would mean that GOT probably wouldn't have happen in this but obviously this is just a bit of fun for me and hopefully for you guys, who I hope will read the scripts etc. I'm currently working on the first episode, which is entitled "Winternight", and I've pretty much cast the entire first season, with a couple of characters as well as some characters that'll turn up in future seasons. The first season is based on 'The Eye of the World'. Here is the list for the cast of Season 1, if you're interested: (SIDE NOTE: I understand that a lot of these actors are from GOT, but I can really imagine them as the characters. Please let me know if I've forgotten anyone) CAST LIST: http://www.imdb.com/list/ls074590729/ I've also created a poster for the season as well as an entire wikia page dedicated to the adaptation with as much information as needed. Information regarding "Winternight", the first episode, is already up. WIKIA: http://wheel-of-time.wikia.com/wiki/Wheel_of_Time_Wikia POSTER: Thank you for reading my poster. Please feel free to respond below and I hope most of you are as excited as I am.
  6. Pretty simple. Which is your favorite super hero universe? The Arrow, The flash, Batman etc.? Iron Man, Captain America, etc?
