So, I've been wondering, just how much control would a Radiant have over their "living" set of Shardplate? The properly glowy, dismissable/summonable kind of plate we see in the Visions, of course. As a Lightweaver, I would totally want to be able to have my plate be sleek and form-fitting simply so that I could wear real clothes on top and still look nice, without having to give up the defensive and enhancing qualities of Plate. It would also be great for deception; you'd think I have the strength and speed of a normal person, until I actually start trying to make use of the plate's enhancements. Also; capes. I imagine there are good points on plate to attach a cape (we see the highprinces in the warcamps doing that, right?), but if I was a Radiant who could dismiss my plate, I'd want to be able to wear the cape and summon Plate over it without concealing it, y'know? Would I have to leave a gap in the back which would end up being a weak-point? I think until we get more info on that specifically the answer is either "no capes" or yes, you would need to make some sort of opening for it which could be exploited, especially because that would be right over the spine. Instakill if someone can fit a shardblade in there.

Truthwatchers and Lightweavers share the Surge of Illumination. In Oathbringer, Renarin had been having trouble using the Surge of Illumination to craft illusions like Shallan does. While Shallan is a standard Lightweaver, Renarin is not a standard Truthwatcher as his spren is Corrupted, that makes comparisons difficult. We do, however, have another example of potential usage of Illumination by Renarin. In the Battle of Thaylen City, Renarin uses light to banish a Thunderclast. I don't think this is specific to Renarin's unique condition as, like Glys, Ym's spren too told their Radiant that they could make things go away with light when Nale attacked him in WoR. We do know that the Surges have a Spiritual component to them. Shallan using Connection to those she draws for her Lightweaving. Renarin glimpsing into a person's Spiritual and applying it on the Physical body. Both Illumination and Progression have a Spiritual element within them. Perhaps Truthwatchers are more proficient in Spiritual manifestation of their Surges, like the Bondsmiths. We do know that the Surges don't always manifest in the same manner among the Orders that share them. Perhaps this is how the Surge of Illumination manifests in Truthwatchers. Maybe they don't craft illusions. Truthwatchers are more about truth than lies, which are under the purview of the Lightweavers. Alternatively, the banishing light could also be a combination of the Surges of Illumination and Progression, their Resonance perhaps, a cleansing light (might as well go full throttle on that paladin theme)

Hi! I'm new to the Shard and asking this question because I find resonance One of the most fascinating investiture related Phenomena in the Cosmere. I feel like we're still know very little about how resonance works wether it's on the Knight Radiants from Roshar, the twinborns from Scadrial or other mix of investiture that exist on the Cosmere, so I ask you to share what you have deduced regarting this subject from reading the books, from Words of Brandon or feel free to speculate about it. So far I think that the Windrunners resonance allows them to have more squires than any other order and that Shallan's memories somehow relate to lightweaver resonance, but this strickes me as sort of random and I see no conection between this powers and the combination of surges that generated them. Maybe there isn't but Brandon usually puts so much sought to this kind oficina things that I wonder if there isn't more to it. What do you think? Also I'm not very clear if Waxillium's steel bubble is exclusive to him as a crasher or if other coinshots could do it. I think when it comes to twinborns we kwow even less about there resonances. Would love to hear your opinions on the matter.

With humans, it basically works that Bob (a holy name in Vorinism) loses his hand in a an unfortunate accident (involving Horneater ale, three chickens, and Hoid, but we won't go into that). Bob sees himself as a guy with two hands. Renarin uses Bob's perception of himself as a template to regrow the hand. So. How much self-awareness is required in the process? If an axehound loses a leg, how does that change its Cognitive aspect? If it doesn't have awareness outside of now, and now is pain and hobbling around, is healing impossible? If it is intelligent enough to remember that there was a time that wasn't, pain, would that be enough, or would it have to have some recognition that pain =\= normal? Is Dalinar's "healing" of Taln's temple relevant in any way to this discussion? Or do inanimate objects and/or Bondsmiths just work under different rules?

This didn't so much arise as a showerthought as much as it was a "2 am insomnia thought". It occurs to me, that, with the proliferation of Medallions capable of giving the user the power to make Unkeyed Nicrosilminds (that is, a Medallion that grants F-Aluminum + F-Nicrosil), people will be able to store their metalborn powers in unkeyed nicrosil and give it to someone else to tap with a medallion that gives F-Nicrosil. Neat, you can rent metalborn powers if you have F-Nicrosil. Where this gets a bit zany is when you consider Nicrosil compounding. A nicroburst (such as, oh I dunno, Era 3's protagonist) could burn unkeyed nicrosil to recieve tenfold the power stored inside it. Given that we know F-Nicrosil works similarly to F-Copper (storing discreet things rather than a reservoir of power like say, pewter), this means that a Nicrosil Twinborn could infinitely (read: for as long as they could afford allomantically accurate Nicrosil) compound their Nicrosil Feruchemy to an arbitrary level of power. ...By itself, that doesn't sound all that great. But remember, we've established that you can "borrow" other metal powers, kind of like Nalthian Breath transfer. They could, in theory, take someone's allomancy and compound it to an arbitrary strength, and then give it back to the original owner, who now has allomantic strength on par with... well, however much power this Soulburst (Soulbearer+Nicroburst) can muster. Lerasium-mistborn (but for a single metal), Lord Ruler... Who knows. If the Soulburst can get ahold of an extra copy of Nicrosil allomancy, they could compound it an arbitrary number of times and keep it for themselves to expedite the process by being able to shove more allomantic power into that feruchemical trait to duplicate it faster. Where this got fun for my "2 am insomnia thoughts" brain was with my other pair of metalborn powers, duralumin compounding. With this compounding method, you could give someone stupidly powerful duralumin allomancy... Which again, doesn't sound that useful, much like stupidly powerful Nicrosil feruchemy. (Which, brief side note, is the natural-born twinborn combo "I" have. The compounding was obtained via power sharing medallions and gracious donations from other Metalborn) However, with the ability to Compound Duralumin at arbitrarily fast speeds (burning allomantic duralumin at arbitrarily high strength alongside a duraluminmind) I of course thought "...Can you just... supercharge a Nahel Bond with this? And wait, if Nicrosil stores "investiture" and that really means "powers" like Allomancy and Feruchemy, does that mean you can store and then compound the Surges themselves from a bonded Radiant spren? Can you become arbitrarily potent in Surgebinding with these two Compounding abilities?" And with me being a Lightdancer I then realized "wait. I can Soulcast Duralumin to burn, and there's a WoB that Duralumin Allomancy would be able to directly power Surges... So if there is a net gain in power from using Duralumin to Soulcast Duralumin, I don't even need Stormlight to Surgebind!" And of course me being me I have to take this a theoretical step further and throw in Reverse Compounding (tl;dr my belief for RC is that you can store allomantic power inside the matching metalmind if you have the matching metal for your powers). So with Reverse Duralumin Compounding, I can store a Duralumin... burst? What even is that called? like using Steel produces a "steelpush", and nicrosil produces a "nicroburst", so... Duraluminburst? Anyway. I can in theory store allomantic duralumin's effect inside duraluminminds and then tap that to have power that can fuel the Surges. No nicrosil-storing-stormlight needed, if that's even possible (though would be moot for myself, as I have both). So yeah, kind of a rambly post about how I realized I am in fact incredibly overpowered and should not be allowed to exist but people like this could still exist in era 4 because of Medallions and probably also Soulcasting fabrials... Huzzah...

I'm fairly sure this idea will have been suggested before, but I want to try and dive deeply into it for the sake of it, really. I want to know if you guys think it'll happen or not. So, then. The theory/hypothesis. Will the 5th ideal cause the Radiant and Spren's spiritwebs to be so thoroughly connected that the two become indistinguishable in the SR, thus causing them to become Cognitively and Physically the same being? I suppose the big points against this would be 1. If we've seen Nale's Highspren on-screen, since he's a 5th ideal skybreaker (but also a Herald which might change things) and 2. How would Shardblade summoning work if that's the case? We already know a single spren can't manifest as two separate pieces of shardblade because that involves splitting their spiritweb, which, OUCH. So if this was the case, there would need to be some alternative. Perhaps we've seen a proto-form of this, when Dalinar manifests a not-Blade out of stormlight to use the Oathgate and flee. If a 5th Ideal Radiant could do that reliably and safely, whatever it is (i think it was partially condensed stormlight, personally), then they wouldn't need to split their spiritweb to manifest a Shardblade. Alternatively, they could just do something like FMA and have a sword-arm instead. Another consequence of this would be that the Radiant/Spren hybrid would take on physical traits from both components, which could have some pretty cool visual alterations. Like imagine how a full-truth Lightweaver could look, with that weird, almost glassy Cryptic cloak, maybe their face has a moving tattoo that matches the pattern of their Cryptic (or a new pattern that represents the Radiant AND their Cryptic!). That would be SO cool. In terms of how this affects powers, with effectively 0 resistance between the Radiant and their Spren, they would have perfect access to their Spren's surges, without any weird latency or Stormlight inefficiency (note: i'm not claiming the hybrid would not leak Stormlight at all... But Brando did specify in a wob that "humans" leak too much, so maybe this is the caveat). Continuing with the Lightweaver example (totally not because of personal biases), this would likely have bigger ramifications with Soulcasting, given how the Cryptic does the translating between Cognitive aspects and the Radiant. Perhaps with this final step, the Radiant can just comprehend and speak to the beads in Shadesmar directly. Would certainly expedite the process, if nothing else. With Lightweaving, one downside I can see is that without the Spren being separate, you couldn't do the thing Shallan does and stick an illusion of Veil to Pattern for him to walk away with and misdirect people. However, I can see one way to circumvent this. If Plate really is lesser spren, then perhaps Lightweavers can stick Illusions to those as well (which for one just sounds amazing, a swarm of illusions that the Lightweaver uses as misdirection, forgoing the defensive capabilities of Plate). Another effect this may have is on aging, or lack thereof. I wonder if a Spren is enough to slow the aging of their hybridized Radiant waayyy down. Not to be ageless like the Heralds, but maybe... Maybe it could be with a tweak from a Bondsmith, Stormfather permitting. That's a mini-theory for another time, though. One last piece of meta-evidence is that SA is meant to be sort of like an anime, and this is similar to one of those somewhat prevalent (in my experience) anime tropes.

Here’s something I’ve been considering since reading the Stormlight Archive for the first time, and I’ve been thinking about it even more since rereading it. I’d like to hear everyone’s thoughts on this. As my screen name says, I’m blind. I’ve been wondering how the mechanics of a blind Knight Radiant would work (healing by stormlight is an unacceptable answer in this case). Here are my thoughts on the plausibility of a blind person being a member of each of the orders, and why. I would appreciate additional input or insights anyone has to offer on this. This is a topic I haven’t seen discussed in the Cosmere community at all, so I want to be the one to start bringing it into the light. Here is my list of all ten orders of Knights Radiant, how plausible I think it would be for a blind person to belong to each of them, and my reasoning behind my decisions. Order of Windrunners (surges of adhesion and gravitation): I actually think this could be quite plausible if the radiant was progressed enough in their oaths. I think this because of how attuned Kaladin is to the winds at different points in the books. There are times when he seems to be able to anticipate what is about to happen around him through feeling the winds. This could be a huge asset to a blind Windrunner. This, combined with a possible clever application of lashings to sense when the blind Windrunner is getting too close to obstacles around them, makes me think that it would be quite possible for someone like me to belong to this order. Order of Skybreakers (surges of gravitation and division): I think this is somewhat less plausible than a blind Windrunner. Since Skybreakers only have access to basic lashings. A blind person of this order would still be able to use a similar method of taking advantage of lashings to sense their environment. I don’t think a Skybreaker would have the same relationship with the winds that a Windrunner would though, so that would be a definite disadvantage. I don’t know enough about the surge of division to say much about how that would come into play for a blind person belonging to this order, but it could be an interesting factor. Order of Dustbringers (surges of division and abrasion): I think this one is pretty implausible. I can’t think of a way that a blind Dustbringer would be able to use the surge of abrasion to get a feel for their environment. I guess they could just use the surge of division to destroy any obstacles in their path, but that sounds extremely dangerous and unwieldy. Order of Edgedancers (surges of abrasion and progression): Like the Dustbringers, I think this is also pretty implausible. There are similar issues with me being unable to think of a way in which a blind Edgedancer could use the surge of abrasion to their advantage. They could always use stormlight to heal themselves after crashing into things, but again, that sounds impractical. Order of Truthwatchers (surges of progression and illumination): I think this may be slightly more plausible than either the Dustbringers or Edgedancers. Assuming that Truthwatchers can use illumination to weave sound, a blind person belonging to this order would definitely be able to use that to their advantage, probably in ways most people would find unexpected. They could also use the surge of progression to great effect, similar to the two other Truthwatchers we’ve met so far in the books. Order of Lightweavers (surges of illumination and transformation): I think this would be about as plausible as the Truthwatchers. A blind Lightweaver would be able to use the surge of illumination similar to what I mentioned before, and they could use transformation very effectively. They’d probably be limited to using transformation only when they could get their hands on whatever they’re trying to transform, but if I understand correctly, that wouldn’t be much more limiting than what most Solecasters have to do in order to transform things. Order of Elsecallers (surges of transformation and transportation): I’m honestly unsure about this one, since we still know relatively little about what Elsecallers can actually do. A blind Elsecaller would definitely be able to use transformation similarly to how I explained earlier, but I don’t know how easy or difficult it would be for them to use transportation. I guess they could do it, as long as they had someone to guide them on the Shadesmar side. Order of Willshapers (surges of transportation and cohesion): I know almost nothing about this order, so I’m very unsure of how plausible it would be for a blind person to become a Willshaper. I already explained how they could possibly use the surge of transportation, but I have no idea what the surge of cohesion does, or how a blind person could use it to their advantage. Order of Stonewards (surges of cohesion and tension): I know even less about this order than I do about the Willshapers, so I can’t guess how plausible or not it would be for a blind person to become a Stoneward. Order of Bondsmiths (surges of tension and adhesion): This one is very interesting to consider. I think it could be quite plausible under the right circumstances. I don’t know enough about the surge of tension to guess how it could benefit or hinder a blind Bondsmith, but I do know that they could use adhesion, especially spiritual adhesion, to great advantage. The one Bondsmith we know so far only uses spiritual adhesion to be able to speak other languages and boost the abilities of other Radiants, but I’d be willing to bet that a blind person of this order could find creative applications of this surge to assist them with different things. Again, I don’t know enough about the surge of tension to guess how a blind Bondsmith could use it. This was quite interesting to consider. As things stand with my current understanding of the Knights Radiant and their powers, this is my current ranking of how plausible I think it would be for a blind person to belong to each order: 1. Windrunners 2. Bondsmiths 3. Skybreakers 4. Lightweavers 5. Truthwatchers 6. Elsecallers 7. Edgedancers 8. Dustbringers 9. Willshapers 10. Stonewards Those last two are at the very bottom mostly because I know so little about either of them. I love the Stormlight books a lot, and this is one way in which I try to insert myself into the story in a more meaningful way. This ranking is not set in stone, and is very likely to change with input and as we continue learning more about each order of Knights Radiant. Please let me know if I overlooked something in my considerations, or if there’s more information about the surges I know so little about.

After taking the official quiz and cementing myself as a Lightshaper, it made me start thinking about the potential cosmere-wide uses of Soulcasting. Naturally, the Rosharan practice of Soulcasting deceased humans into stone reminded me of Kalad's Phantoms, and I started contemplating the potential enhancements that fine Soulcasting could impart to a Lifeless. By "fine", I mean, like, soulcasting JUST the skin into Steel, for example. Cut into it at the joints so that the awakened bones and muscles can still bend, but turn the skin into steel so that the Lifeless has a durable outer shell (sort of like Singer carapace, actually...). And speaking of awakened muscles, how about Soulcasting those into Wood? Presumably a flexible kind, but one that's still durable or is difficult to rot. Speaking of rotting, let's also Soulcast the blood directly into Ichor-Alcohol. Hmm... Maybe we can do something hacky if we Soulcast the nervous system and the brain into Copper. If we presume our corpse was someone capable of storing their Memories in an Unsealed Coppermind (perhaps via a Medallion prior to death), it could influence the personality of the Lifeless if we stored those Memories inside the copper mind (...ha) prior to Awakening the body. Of course, this would massively increase the Breath requirements if we wanted to Awaken the copper, since it's metal... This might not be worth the Investment. So, scrap that last idea, unless you REALLY wanna make a pseudo-returned in a hacky manner. Hmm... Anything else? Perhaps if we could take it to Sel, we could have an Elantrian carve a series of Aons into the steel to enhance it further. But then it would be fairly restricted to Sel, so maybe not. Darn. Hmm... what else?

I noticed a fair few people talking in the official radiant order quiz threads have been mixing their top two results into a "new" order, myself included. We know from WoBs that it's technically possible for a person to bond two Radiant spren, if highly unlikely to happen in practice. But can things be pushed a step further? Can two spren be mixed into a single entity? Well... Yes. They can be. Here's the WoB for it! So, Lightshapers, Winddancers, Windshapers, Elsebreakers, you guys COULD technically have a single spren for your merged orders. As to what this would do to the consciousness of the two spren, and what the actual method for merging them would be, I have no idea. Let's theorize that together!

Suppose you were a Mistborn and became a Surgebinder, specifically a Lightweaver, what tests of interactions between your powers would you do? a pewter run while on Stormlight do soulcast metals power my allomancy do I instantly heal if burning duraluminium while on Stormlight can I communicate with my spren while in a speed bubble can I use steel/iron on my shard blade what happens if I use soulcasting on a metal object I am using iron/steel on? can I hear my spren with bronze can I hear my illusions with bronze can my spren use allomancy does my spren develop an electrum shadow does my spren develop a gold doppelgänger can I use emotional allomancy on my spren does a coppercloud interfere with lightweavings, soulcasting or summoning my shard blade can I destroy a lightweaving with chromium do I wipe out my Stormlight with aluminium what happens to existing illusions if I use aluminium Anything else? And what would other orders do?

Suppose you were a Feruchemist and became a Surgebinder, specifically a Lightweaver. What interactions would you study, especially if you had some knowledge of the theory of the arcane arts? Yes, you know whom I am suspecting of doing exactly that. My suggestions for the generic effects would be: Stormlight and pewter - does the increase in endurance affect the muscles I get from a pewter mind Stormlight alters your mood - can that be stored in an electrum mind Stormlight heals - can that effect be stored in a gold mind Stormlight replaces breathing - can that effect be stored in a cadmium mind Can Stormlight in general be stored in a nicrosil mind Does tapping a steel mind speed up healing The surges: Does tapping a duralumium mind facilitate soulcasting Does tapping an electrum mind facilitate soulcasting What happens to the Investiture in a metal mind if I soulcast it into another metal Does it matter whether I soulcast my metal mind or somebody else's or an unkeyed metal mind Interaction with my spren Does my spren become stupid while I am filling a zinc mind Can my spren use feruchemy Interaction with a Shard Blade Can I store anything in it Does gold heal blade injuries (that is rather risky an experiment unless you are sure you have alternative methods) How full does a metal mind have to be to block a blade Does it matter which metal mind I use to block the blade (aluminium aside) Interactions with Plate Can I store the strength from the Plate in a pewter mind Can I store the Plate's mass in an iron mind Can I use Surgebinding through the Plate if I store most of my Identity away

Do you guys think its possible that their are other orders of knights radiant that cross different surgebindings from the 10 we know? Like combine Gravitation and Adhesion? or would they have a new power? Would this affect the other Spren's surges?

What happens if a hemalurgic construct that gained sentience by hemalurgy formed a Nahel Bond and then got its spikes ripped out? Does the spren become stupid as it cannot gain sentience from its partner? Is the bond broken?

I was wondering about this on my most recent read-through of Warbreaker & SA, because in Mistborn Era 2 we've seen that combining Feruchemy and Allomancy produces some really neat things; I wonder if we have received any confirmation about how other magic systems might interact. Also Hoid is living out his inner Ash Ketchum with Shardic powers so it's going to come up in the future. So yeah, Awakening and Surgebinding. Returned are, according to the coppermind wiki, Cognitive Shadows, however, as shown by Nale becoming a full Skybreaker, that doesn't exactly stop the Nahel bond from forming. Which raises a question: can a Returned become a Surgebinder? If they were to do so, would the different forms of Investiture combine, to allow them to go out into a highstorm with some bright clothes and start mass-Awakening big things? On the other side of things, if one were to create coloured illusions via Lightweaving, could this be used as a source of colour for Awakening? Speaking of Returned, could Type IV BioChromatic Entities become Surgebinders (imagine Nightblood the Windrunner, with its spren taking on the form of a person wielding the sword...)? Going the other way, could a Surgebinder Return? How would that affect the Nahel bond? Would their death cause it to break, and then they would have to spend time reforming it and reswearing the Ideals? Would the newly-Returned even remember their spren? Assuming that it can happen, we're presented with a number of interesting implications. If we fast forward to the more interconnected Cosmere which is coming in later Mistborn eras, it would be really cool to see artists try to desperately acquire a large number of Breaths and a Cryptic or Truthwatcher spren in order to become a better artist. Returned have a headstart by being propelled up into the 5th Heightening straight away, with all of the cool art appreciation features that come with that; a Returned with access to Lightweaving could conceivably create illusion-based 3D artwork with all of the depth and complexity that only another massively Invested Nalthian (or perhaps a Tin savant / relevant Feruchemist?) could appreciate. Add in SoulForging and you've got a seriously upmarket art installation. On the topic of SoulForging, if you spent time on Nalthis and Roshar, could a Forger rewrite your spiritweb to make it so that you became a Surgebinder or Returned? Or an Allomancer/Feruchemist based on a life spent on Scadrial? How would that work?

As an avid fan of experimenting and theorizing with the limits of Cosmere magic, I've found a handful of interesting combinations that result in obscure (sometimes not fully practical) emergent properties. For example, using Steel Compounding with Abrasion to reduce drag to allow you to run even faster than a normal steelrunner could before "bad things" start to happen like re-entry heating and stuff. Another fun thing you could do with Abrasion is if you pair it with Gravitation, and lash yourself only slightly horizontally, such that the total gravitational pull makes the ground feel like a downwards slope. Then slick your shoes with Abrasion and slide all around, re-lashing yourself to change direction. Alternatively, instead of doing that with Gravitation, you could use Allomantic Steel to give yourself momentum across the ground. Possibly one of the most interesting to me is an Augur who is also a Forger. They use their Gold Allomancy to learn all they can about a possible alternate past for themselves, and then Forge themselves into that alternate history. In addition, if they were a Copper Ferring (twinborn of gold and copper), they could store what the Gold shadow 'feels like' to them, and then use the memory while writing the soulstamp. The applications of this are likely only limited by what exactly one can know about themselves through Gold Allomancy and the skill of their Forging ability. Are there any of these interesting cross-compatibilities you think would be possible in the Cosmere? I would love to know more of them.

I was looking at these two diagrams and noticed something I hadn't seen before. It was easiest to see when switching between tabs on the same browser on these pages: https://coppermind.net/w/images/TWoK_Rear_Endsheet.jpg and https://coppermind.net/w/images/TWoK_Front_Endsheet.jpg. The symbols for the surges (the little circles) have their left sides identical, while their right sides are vertically flipped versions. The surgebinding one they're symmetrical left and right, but the voidbinding one is based on the same symbol, but instead of being symmetrical, the right half is a 180 degree rotation. Symmetry is important on Roshar. I've never heard anyone talk about it (though I'm sure it's out there), but I think that symmetry is meant to represent the making and keeping of oaths. I think these voidbinding symbols where the second half is the first half flipped on its head might be meant to represent the breaking of oaths. Oddly though the symbols corresponding to the symbols for the Orders of Radiants (the big circles) remain symmetrical right and left, though they have very different styles to their surgebinding equivalents. Maybe because they keep different kinds of oaths? I'm also wondering who the woman on the outside is, where it has the heralds on the surgebinding one. I wonder if she might be one of the unmade. Sja-anat? Ba-Ado-Mishram? I don't know.

So, by far the most thorough vetting of who should get access to phenomenal cosmic power is to be found in the system of Surgebinding, those who became the Order of the Knights Radiant. We know that Honor created the Honorblades and gave them to his Heralds. We know that Ishar had a major hand in the creation of the Oathpact, which is why he is called the Binder of Gods. We know that he "thrust organization upon [surgebinder]" when he learned of their access to the Surges. He hoped that the Knights Radiant would help preserve humanity and its knowledge during the Desolations, and help rebuild civilization after the Decisions. He became the patron Herald of the Order of Bondsmiths. We know that spren recreated the powers granted by the Honorblades. Honor had no hand in this and was surprised. So... Who created the Ideals? We know that wielding Honorblades does not seem to require any oaths as we see with Szeth. So it's not inherent to the system of Investiture itself. So did the spren create the basis of the Ideals of the Knights they were to bond? Did Ishar craft the binding oaths so that the Surgebinders were generally chosen based on personal merit instead of happenstance and had to act within a structure? Did Honor craft the Ideals of the Knights Radiant? And if he did, Cultivation probably had a hand in it too... The themes of bonding, swearing oaths, personal growth meshes so well with their Intent Did the first Bondsmiths create the Ideals? Do we have any mentions or hints in the books? Any WoBs?

Can you use Progression on animals in the same way it can be used on plants? Can you turn a tadpole into a frog or an alligator egg into a fully grown alligator? Do you have a choice among features depending on environment, like sex in alligators?

The unmade clearly were once something different likely of honor or cultivation. My theory is that they were the dawnshards. My evidence is the abilities of one of the unmade an and the quote of one of the dawnshards. The quote from a poem that jasnah finds while researching in the palinaeum about the dawnshards states roughly it can bind any creature voidish or not. This sounds similar to the unmade that can bind the chosen and allow them to manipulate the surges. However it could just also be that the dawnshard is a reflection of the surge of connection uses by the bondsmith. Also the fact that there are nine unmade indicates that they originate in braize. This is my best guess.

Okay, so I was browsing Arcanum, and a WoB said this: Dwarven_Hydra Would a Duralumin Gnat Surgebinder be able to use duralumin to do a super Surge? Brandon Sanderson This (Duralumin+Surgebinding) would work. This makes me wonder, can Duralumin super-charge other kinds of investiture? Maybe even Fabrials?

Okay, I'm not sure about whether it was a theory only or was it confirmed somewhere. Does Nahel bond pull the Surgebinder and spren closer together, what results in spren being pulled more into Physical (somewhat confirmed because as the bond progresses spren can manifest as Shardblade) and Surgebinder being pulled more into Cognitive Realm? I mean, Kaladin was able to see spren nobody else could (like bindspren) and the other instance we have is Rock who is a Horneater who are a result of human/Parshendi interbreeding so they are closer to Cognitive (I just realised that that is also not confirmed).

So I’m greatly interested in how the Fused power their surges . Logic would have us thinking it work Like stormlight . Yet the Fused don’t carry spheres .we know that everstorm does not recharge spheres with stormlight . So I’m going to come up with a theory and see what u guys think . The everstorm brings Voidlight with it when it comes . The Voidlight is captured in the Fused gemheart , gems woven into the Fused hair, and possibly even its skin . We have seen the Fused glow constantly with Voidlight . I think the Fused are extremely efficient with their use of Voidlight . We see the Flying Fused that lash constantly Float around to where they hardly ever walk . So when it comes to surges they are extremely efficient or it cost little to anyvoidlight . it could possibly cost more for Healing as we saw a Fused survive a shardblade tp the stomach. It wasn’t until the Gem heart was destroyed and possibly the source of its Voidlight healing did the creature die ! as the everstorm comes more often than a highstorm , they usually have enough to last until the next everstorm . If u ask me the Fused have more efficient powers . KR have to have constant stormlight and it runs out way too fast. And the high storm does not come around enough . What do u guys think

So I have been thinking a lot about how the surgebinders destroyed their previous planet . And the overall fear that they will do the same to Roshar. The only character we have seen who has been surgebinding for years is Szeth. Other than him we have shallan we have shallan who has forgotten much of what she has done . And perhaps some unnamed Skybreakers who we have no POV to judge from. But Szeth is clearly insane . What if it’s not him being abused as a truth less that drove him to insanity ? But his prolonged use of surgebinding that drove Szeth to insanity ? Thoughts ?

Surges we have seen to work: Gravitation Illumination Maybe seen to work: Adhesion (depends on how Kaladin flew) Seen to have failed: Soulcasting [Jasnah's deleted scene] Anything on anything else? Do they also work on native elements of the CR? Can you use Gravitaion or Adhesion on a Spren? Were the Fused using Gravitation whom Kaladin fought bodyless Cognitive Shadows or ordinary Fused coming from Roshar?

Punny title aside, would it work? That is: can Hemalurgy spike out Surges (either from the surgebinder or their Spren) and grant them to someone with the right bind point? I imagine the metal most apt for this would be Nicrosil (Steals Investiture), and I think it would be more likely for the target to have to be the Spren, which would probably mean taking your spikes to the Cognitive Realm... Making it a bit of a hassle unless you have a method to get in there (Surge of Transportation, Oathgate, Perpendicularity). If this IS possible, what surges would you spike yourself with? I would personally go with Abrasion and Gravitation, because it would let me constantly slide "downhill" by lashing myself diagonally forwards and slicking my shoes. No skating effort required, just a mastery of partial lashings. Possibly more stormlight-efficient than just flying with Gravitation, too. It's also possible that you would have to put these surge spikes into your own Spren, in which case I would use a Cryptic and spike them with Abrasion and Gravitation, since their Oaths are just truths about yourself (and not, like, protecting people. Cause that would be a bit restrictive to Hemalurgy). And yes, I know, I still have to speak the First Ideal, but if these surges give me the power to save more lives than the spren I spike, isn't it worth it? Strength before weakness, after all. ...Kind of a tangent but I just wanted to preempt arguments like that.
