Okay, granted, you've seen some of these images before. But I'm still very pleased with this Dalinar.

From the album: Stormlight Trading Cards

    HE'S MY FAVE, OKAY
  3. Hopefully someone can help me out here, I keep seeing "secret history" referenced in WOB interviews, what is this, and where can I find it?
  4. It's commonly accepted that Stormlight can be used to keep a Returned alive and to fuel Awakening. However, how much Stormlight is needed to equate to the singular Breath needed to keep a Returned alive?
  5. This theory is that the phrase 'stones unhallowed' has more to do with the worldbuilding in Roshar than thought. There are many lines, moments and opinions in Stormlight that suggest there is a deep (time lost) ideology directing the Shin to not walk on Stones unhallowed. I can go through the book if necessary, though I'm sure the members here are familiar with them anyway. My theory here is that the stones that are 'hallowed' are a way for Odium to connect to individuals on Roshar, in much the same way that Ruin used spikes to impersonate/talk-to various mistborn ppls and used the non-metal prophesies to manipulate the world. This theory is that the Shin live on stones 'unhallowed' (and that this is an actual ancient truth), but Szeth as truthless was given a 'hallowed' stone and commanded to obey the holder. I believe this is a similar corruption (as Ruin) by Odium. This is what allows Odium into his head aka the screams in the darkness. we have a WoB that the screams are real (to him at least). Since he died, Szeth hasn't heard the screams (please check me on this, but make sure he wasn't on stone at the time). He believes it's because he died, but maybe it's because he gave up the stone. A lot of this is hidden in the history of Roshar and I believe Brandon will unveil it in coming pieces and tie it into the desolations in the same way as Mistborn. If you've read 'Mistborn the secret history; you'll have a good idea of what I'm thinking. I'll add one last thing here. The Shin have the honourblades. If kept anywhere, shouldn't the cosmic design arrange them to be held where Ati can't see them? (yes I know what I did there). The Stormfather fades in the Shin land, stones are unhallowed and they have the honourblades? Coincidence? Or design? (My theory is design from when the Heralds were sane).
  6. Alright, so I just finished reading Arcanum Unbound. If you haven't read it, this is me warning you now that this a theory that might have spoilers. Let's talk about the Rosharan system. There are ten gas giants, one for each essence. Khriss describes them as: This seems really weird to me. A persons cognitive representation is a manifestation of how an object is perceived in the mind. If this is the case, the planets should have huge cognitive identities- the heralds are essentially demigods. People use the names and personifications of the heralds all the time. Why do the planets that share their essences name and color, which should act as a focus point for their cognitive identity, not show on the cognitive plane? They are a huge part of peoples beliefs, whether or not you believe in the heralds- that planet in the sky are named after the ten essences, and this doesn't reflect in Shadesmar? It seems blatant to me that they are placed by Order- all uniform distance from each other, all the same size. I do not think they would be there for no reason. I propose this: Between Desolations, the heralds go to a place called damnation. The tranquiline halls have always been described as being above. From the description of torture we see before the breaking of the oathpact, is it possible that the searing is similar to what one might experience being on a gas giant? (assuming that either super healing keeps them alive, or that they're there only spiritually) Through some means, I believe that each herald is sent to their individual planets which are the damnation- which is a necessary component to keeping Odium bound within the Rosharan system (whether this is through some form of magic, or if the complex alignment of the planets keeps the asteroid field around the inner system to physically keep Odium trapped). When the oathpact was broken, this mechanism placed by Honor was also broken- which is why they lost their identity on the cognitive realm. I would go even further to say that these ten planets are the legendary Dawnshards. Scholars have found no records of the dawnshards because they are physically not on the planet. They were looking for swords when they should have been looking for the dawn in the sky. Without the Heralds supporting the Dawnshards in damnation, Honor feels Odium will break free because the cage is not being maintained. When used in the reference to the poem of Ista "Taking the Dawnshard, known to bind any creature voidish or mortal, he crawled up the steps crafted for Heralds, ten strides tall apiece, toward the grand temple above." The steps crafted by the Heralds are the ten planets, the "grand temple" is the tranquiline halls, the dawnshard is the piece of honor that manifests on the planets which has since passed out (like how shardblades died on the recreance) which is why Khriss doesn't see them in Shadesmar. Sorry if this writing is a little rushed, but I am curious to see if people have considered this as a possibility.
  7. In the first Eshonai interlude in WoR, we get this line: Have we ever had any confirmation on whether exposure to Stormlight directly encourages growth, or whether the Parshendi are using a growth fabrial? If it's the former, it might relate to stormwater being better for plants than regular water. Some sort of response to the Investiture.
  8. Just curious as to whether we have more information on how the Lashings would work off Roshar. If they're relative, then a single Basic Lashing upwards will render you weightless on any planet in the Cosmere. If they're constant, then a single Lashing would negate ~80% of the standard Cosmere gravity. I had been working under the assumption that they were relative, until I remembered that a Windrunner could theoretically travel between planets. And the moment you're in 0g, presumably a new relative lashing wouldn't do anything at all (Adding 1G when G=0 is 0). Now, you could in theory do all your Lashing while on a planet and hope that your aim is really, really good (Because if you miss, you're going to be travelling for a long while), but that doesn't give you much time at all to slow down from some serious speeds.
  9. This has been in my head for a while, and I keep forgetting to post it, so hopefully it'll not be as rambling as I worry it will be xD Forgive me if this has already been speculated/shot down elsewhere! So, Brandon has been rather close lipped on the origins of Shardplate, if Kaladin is going to get his own, and we've theorised all kinds of things, like the Plate being made of non-sentient Spren locked into Plate forn the same way Spren are locked into non-living Shardblades... My thought/random theory is this. When a Radiant reaches the final Ideal of their Order, or progresses far enough, they create their own Shardplate... but through Stormlight manipulation. "But Rawrbert, you crazy, mad, lovable, handsome fool," I hear you say, "What would make you think that? Shardplate has to be more than just hardened Stormlight!" Well, you flattering reader, let me explain my way of thinking. We've seen Shallan can dim the Stormlight from her skin to blackness, and we've seen that as a Radiant progresses through their Ideals that holding and using Stormlight and Surges becomes easier and more natural to them. And from what I recall from Dalinar's visions, when he was fighting with and saw Radiants in their prime, their Shardplate glowed at the joints with inner light correspondending to their Order. What we DIDN'T see... was their skin glowing. At no point (Unless I'm recalling incorrectly, as I don't have the book in frony of me at the moment.) does Dalinar mention that the Radiants he sees' skin glow with light at all. Now, he doesn't specifically say that they AREN'T glowing, but that seems like the kind of detail everyone's favourite war dad would notice, especially when he instantly remarks on the glowing Plate in his head. This, along with Shardplate being powered by infused spheres, and that it can regrow when fed Stormlight, makes me think that a Surgebinder will be able to convert the Stormlight that would make their skin grow, or escape from their pores, into Shardplate, when they become proficient enough with metabolising/using it. This would also explain why the Radiants in the visions were able to summon and dismiss part of their armour at will, by simply reabsorbing the Stormlight they've hardened around their head to create a helm, or around their fist to make a gauntlet. I suspect the reason Brandon didn't have Dalinar see the dismissal/resummoning of the armour pieces to keep us guessing, since if it formed first from mist or from light we could pretty easily narrow down how it was happening. ^^ Of course it COULD maybe be summoned from the Cognitive Realm, a perfect ideal of armour for each Radiant.... Anyway, thoughts? Praises? Insults? ^-^ Hit meh!

  12. Hi guys, I am writing this post to expose a theory I worked on for a while, recently I got some new possible contros and I developed a derivated theory of the main one (but that I like very very less). The core concept of the theory for both the main and the derivate ones is that an Highstorm is actually a perpendicularity...a mobile one (to be honest I think it better to say that an Highstorm has a Perpencidularity at its inside) Pros: - An Highstorm spreads Stormlight...Investiture that comes directly from the Spiritual Realm (many WoB about Stormlight as lightbulb to the spiritual realm), a perpendicularity is a place where the Realms are spiked and the Spiritual is "in contact" with the phisical. - Shadesmar seems really poor of Stormlight, another clue about the direct travel Spiritual->Physical (with maybe some minor leak in the Cognitive, that may be the origin of the proto-Spren) - The Perpendicularities we saw are all in a liquid state and may be part of a greater waterpool (often called water of live in certain Cosmere Culture) and the Hightstorm is actually a great amount of water (as every storm's cloud) compressed together. The Highstorms help to grown plants and have some benefit to the living healt (I think it's the reason the "Herald's wisdom" suggest to go out in the Highstorm to wash) fitting well with the "water of life" concept - The phase where the Spheres get the Stormlight is actually the same phase when Listeners can obtain a new form and the phase where people willing or unwilling are slightly pulled out of the Physical (the "calm eye" of the Highstorm). - Roshar is a place where the boundary between the Realms are less strong, what is better than a Perpendicularity that regularly pass over the whole planet ? Contro: - We never actually saw a mobile perpendicularity The previous part is common by both the Main theory and the Derivate one. Now I will talk about the difference between the two: Main theory: Adonalsium's design We know that Adonalsium explicity created Roshar as we see it, We know that the Listener predate the Shards there and that the Listener were created by Adonalium to fit the Roshar's ecology. As other Rosharans' beings the Listener are quite dependant from the symbiosis with a Spren. My idea is that Adonalsium left on Roshar as part of his design a great "Investiture Vault"(I see it as a willing analogue to the Ruin's stolen power) to put in place the Invested Highstorm as a tool to made the Spren's birth naturally possible. The bounday between Realms are weaker and the Mind of the physical being may more easy influence-gave birth to the Cognitive beings (thanks also to the higher level of Investiture). A specific Adonalsium's Splinter was put in charge or developed on his own the purpose to carry and manage the Highstorm (of course I am talking of the Rider of the Storm). Pro to the main theory: - Roshar's ecology seems to be strictly dependent from Stormlight - Roshar's flora/fauna is high developed to the Highstorm (this is actually a doutbful pro, because the Highstorm may be a regular uninvested powerful Storm in the Ancient time) - This would fits to the theory who saw the Purelake as a Shard's Perpendicularity along with Horneater's peaks and leave a place for the Highstorm as other source perpendicularity Contro to the main theory: - A recent WoB said that is possible to create a Spren from Stormlight while isn't possible to create it from Preservation's power because it comes from a different WoB. This suggest that Stormlight is from one of the shard that are actually parents of the Radiant Spren (without put an exception like "Adonalium's Investiture as untainted Investiture may be used corrupted with an Intent and be used as Shard's Investiture) - The presence of an huge amount of Adonalsium's Investiture is something never saw in other places of the Cosmere and in my opinion it would be cause a Manifestation of Investiture to arose on Roshar (like if a Shard was Invested).... I actually think that the Fabrial aren't from H&C but this is quite an external topic in this theory. - The Drominad System's essay seems to point as First of the Sun as an unique case in the Cosmere, where you can find a perpendicularity without a Shard on the planet. This may be semanthic, but actually on Roshar the Adonalsium's perpendicularity may be masked by the presence of H&C or it's not so relevant because you may actually use the Shards' perpendicularities Derived theory: Cultivation's will Cultivation is the Stormlight's source (I have another topic in working called "Stormlight isn't of Honor"). Pros to the derivate theory: - More in line with the Shard's investiment on a Planet - Stormlight has healing and growing proprieties on large scale, this seems to fit Cultivation's mandate/Intent - If the Purelake's theory is false, we have a good candidate to the second Shard's perpendicularity on Roshar (thanks to the guys who informed me that the Purelake's perpendicularity is a theory not a confirmed fact) - It doesn't need to put exception to the Cosmere's mechanics Contros to the derivate theory: - How the hell Did Roshar's survive before the Shards' arrive ? I would really know your opinions about... Soon or later I will wrote all my Roshar's model PS: If you find some horrible grammar horror in the theory please let me know it...I will fix it as soon as possible
  13. In this post I tried to aswer to a doubt of mine. I thought it was a well known fact that I only missed. The unsure answers pushed me to ask both to Brandon and Peter on Twitter and the second gave me a much more vague answer Also if I don't recive a sure answer, now I know that it isn't something explored in the books and maybe may hide some worldbuilding information about Roshar and the GreatShell's Spren-bond. It's even possible I was right about the idea exposed in my tweet (but I am not too sure about)
  14. Spoilers! (How do I add that tag?) I was bored recently and I was wondering- what would be the most broken mixture of investiture you could get? I mean, stuff like the Lord Ruler having Allomancy and Feruchemy together. I was thinking... Could you go more broken? So I'm proposing a contest- who can come up with the most broken pair of Investiture types? (The Knights Radiant are funky so let's say you can pick one order but you get a shardblade and shardplate in the package). So pick 2 magic systems (like a full Mistborn and full feruchemist) that are as stupidly powerful as you can imagine. I'd go with full Mistborn and willshaper because if I Pushed or Pulled hard enough, I could probably orbit my Shardblade around me and become an evil blender of death. Also worldhopping. Which would you pick?
  15. What makes a Honor Spren, and a Wind Spren cousins? The intent of the wind, and the intent of honor seem to be quite different. Wind wants to blow, and honor wants to stay steadfast to beliefs, and what is alright. So what would allow these spren to be considered cousins? What we know: Wind Spren and Honor Spren = Cousins Spren are splinters of Shards. Spren are given existence by human thought. Theory: The only thing that I can think of that would allow Wind and Honor spren to be cousins, is if they both are wind spren, only with different amounts in investiture, or different sizes of splinters inside of them. This would mean that Honor Spren are just Wind Spren that have changed by a splinter of Honor, this larger splinter allows them to first: Have sentience, and Second: Bond with humans. If this first theory is true, then what would happen if a normal spren got a large sprinter of Odium? This would create another type of spren, one that, instead of surge binding, would allow voidbinding to happen. So, what if Storm Spren are just Wind Spren with Odium Splinters?
  16. What metal are Shardblades (and Honorblades, for that matter) made of? If they were made out of an allomantic metal, what would happen if someone shaved off a slice and burned it?
  17. Spoilers for Warbreaker and Stormlight Maybe I just need more caffeine this morning, but I'm having trouble making sense of a recent reply from Brandon on reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/Stormlight_Archive/comments/51u8qu/oathbringer_spoilers_stormlight_three_update_4/d9i30dm/?context=3 Am I correct that Brandon confirmed that other shards have an equivalent or related ability to commands? If so, do you think there is more than just the surface meaning of Dalinar labeling "unite them" as a "phantom command"?
  18. Here's something of what I've imagined when I think Alethi Spearman. Really light armored, dark-eye unit. This one's probably a particularly bad fighter, as he's totally opened himself up for a counter attack, but hey. He's got a great battle cry.
  19. I was checking on Reddit when I found a WoB of a real Interesting question, the answer was a RAFO but it may be useful to avoid the same question in the future: https://www.reddit.com/r/Stormlight_Archive/comments/51u8qu/oathbringer_spoilers_stormlight_three_update_4/d8u49pu?context=3
  20. Sometimes I can't get the Cosmere out of my head. Well it makes sense, they are just about the best books ever written. But when you have such great books with no movies or television series (as of this moment) it can make you look at the actors and characters in other media. There are lots of potential actors who could play our favorite Cosmere characters. But there are also existing characters in movies, books, TV shows, and Anime who just seem like they would be perfect to play a character. What are your daydream character actors? What characters from existing media remind you of your favorite Cosmere characters? This week I was re-watching "Attack on Titan" and I realized that there is a character that looks and fights like Vin. Mikasa seriously could be a stand in for Vin, it's almost too perfect. They are both crazy awesome fighters who leap across buildings, wield a pair of blades, and fight by instinct like no one else does. They both are kinda broken but love their best friends and will do everything they can to protect them. "When she fights, she is the blade. When she loves, she is the kiss. In that way, she was more human than any others that I have known" TenSoon -Shadows of Self Here is a video of some of Mikasa's best moments. SPOILER ALERT! GRAPHIC IMAGERY! But Attack on Titan is crazy amazing. I recommend you watch it. Mikasa is the best, and she is the anime version of Vin, my favorite Mistborn!
  21. So I was recently able to talk to Brandon at the Ogden Signing. Recently before that I started looking at this table (The one that should be above this) and the first category really interested me, specifically the forth, and sixth columns. Inhalation, and Protecting/Leading. To me the Protecting/Leading sounded a lot like Kaladin, and his connection to Syl. his oath's are all about protecting: I will protect those who cannot protect themselves. —The Second Ideal of the Windrunners I will protect even those I hate, so long as it is right. — The Third Ideal of the Windrunners And he was also a MAJOR leader of Bridge four, he is the reason that they are now free. Jump down to the next line, Just. We know that SkyBreakers use one of the same surges as Kaladin does, Gravitation, and also the surge of Division. They also fall the law to the letter, aka being just. ( based on or behaving according to what is morally right and fair.) If you look at a list then you will see that the SkyBreakers would use the second set of possible surges on the list (seen below) and the Windrunners use the first set possible, lining them up, if you place them on a chart, directly underneath each other. 1.Adhesion 2.Gravitation 3.Division 4.Abrasion 5.Progression 6.Illumination 7.Transformation 8.Transportation 9.Cohesion 10.Tension K so now skip down to where Shallan would be on the list...she would be the sixth (having access to the sixth, and seventh surges listed) Sixth one down on the chart, Creativity/honest. Hmm...sounds like her. Next one down, Transformation/Transportation, Wise/Careful, sound like Jasnah to you? So this gives us a base for what each of the orders of the Knights Radiant will be based upon, and also lets us know that Dalinar will be based on being Pious( devoutly religious.) which makes sense, being bonded to a God-spren. When I talked to Brandon about this he did say that these all matched up exactly, and that this did work, and also said something about Creativity being a form of lying for Shallan. Now to that other column I mentioned, the fourth one. I have no base for this, except what I see, but I do not know what Brandon has to say about it, as I can up with it shortly after talking to him. So Kaladin's body focus is Inhalation, according to the chart, I haven't had time to check this yet, but whenever Kaladin breathes in Stormlight it specifically says that he Inhales it, yet when Dalinar gets his stormlight at the end of WoR it says that he sucked in stormlight...This might be nothing but... Also when Shallan first soulcast is it a coincidence that the thing turned to Blood? Her body focus, is after all, blood. What do you guys think? Let me know.
  22. averyp1017

    Wit

Does the Wit show up as an informant in book 3 of Mistborn? I'm not so sure because I talked briefly with Brandon about this and he said he wasn't but if you look in the glossary it says he is.
