  1. On this list of weird canon facts I give you this! Kelsier is a cat person. Marsh is a dog person Hoid would like heavy metal music Hoid loves bacon The Shard that Kelsier would find the most fun to punch is Honor Hoid has dressed in drag "several times" Shallan is a Ravenclaw, Jasnah is Slytherin, Dalinar is a Gryffindor, and Kaladin is Hufflepuff Elend's name means "misery" in German which was not intentional Taravangian would make a worse US president than Rashek "Gemheart" is a thing you can call your spouse in Alethkar Lift states on multiple occasions in Oathbringer that Dalinar has a tight butt If Drehy lived in Azir he would need to fill out paperwork to date a man (Sigzil mentions this in OB) Anyone want to add more?
  2. Hi all! I'm back at it again with a stormlight fanfic. This one isn't depressing, I promise! It's an idea I've had in my head for a while and really wanted to get down. Spoiler warning: This fic spoils some elements of Rhythm of War. It doesn't actually spoil Rhythm of War but it uses information we learn in RoW in it. Let me know what you think! Enjoy! Dustbringer Shout out to @Greywatch for betaing!
  3. This is an article I wrote a couple of months back about foreshadowing in fantasy. It is one of my favorite topics to talk about, as evidenced by this, and how I immediately jumped to the chance of being on the Dusty Wheel's episode on foreshadowing. I'd love to discuss it with all of you, and hear your opinions on the topic. Copy_of_Foreshadowing.pdf
  4. Hey there. I'm new to the forums so I have no Idea if this has come up before. I wanted to have a quick chat about why the Nale doesn't want to go grab Jezzrian's Honorblade off Sezth in Chapter 77 of RoW and the implications of it for the future of Stormlight. So while Nale is having his super friendly chat with Venli and Ulim he says, Quote: "There is a man here in the city tonight. I have been tracking him due to his unusual circumstances. He possesses an artifact that belonged to a friend of mine. I have sworn not to touch said artifact, for... reasons that are unimportant to you." Unquote So Nale clearly knows about Szeth and Jezzrian's blade and that made me think of what possible reason he (and i'm going to assume the other Heralds) could have for not taking the Honorblade. My immediate thought is that when Honor made the Honorblades he made all the Heralds swear to not take more than one so they couldn't gain what he percieved to be to much power. (I think the "chains" Honor had put on Bondsmiths and the Radiant Oaths themselves are other examples of him not wanting people to access to much power) So I started thinking about what would happen if someone was bonded to more than one Honorblade at a time. I believe it would certainly grant access to all the avaliable surges associate with the blades. But that's not what really intrigued me. I started thinking about what would happen if you had access to two overlapping blades. For example, lets say that someone became bonded to both the Edgedancer and the Truthwatcher Honorblades. This would give them access to the Progression surge from two different sources. I think that this would likely have a similar effect to how compounding works on Scadrial. For example, two Progression blades could use Regrowth to heal faster, with less Stormlight and probably for more serious and longer lingering wounds. Now I think this is especially relevant when it comes to the (forgive my phrasing) power level of Nale. We know that he is both a Skybreaker of the Fifth Ideal and that he is bonded to his Honorblade, giving him acess to the Surges of Gravitation and Division twice. I agrue that because of this Nale is probably the most powerful Surgebinder on Roshar, (maybe discounting insane Connection Bonsmith stuff). I assume he'd be almost impossible to kill as he would process Stormlight at such an efficeient rate as to essentially make him as close to a perfect container as the leaky human body can be. I think his compounded Gravitation makes him incredibly fast and almost certainly a better sky warrior than even the Heavenly Ones and I could easily see compounded Division as being a potential cause of the Shattered Plains, so you really don't want to be around that. Combine this with him being a Herald (and I would guess one of the upper half in terms of best fighters) and you have one incredibly scary problem to deal with. So. Here is my prediction for book 5. At some point in their journey to Shinovar, Szeth and Kaladin are going to have to go toe to toe with Nale and he is going to wreck him. We've already seen that Szeth is not even a slight threat and I can't imagine Kaladin will be much better. So I reckon that one of them is going to have to take Jezzrian's blade off Moash and use it to counpound their abilities. From a Surgebinding mechanics point of view, it would make more sense for Kaladin to have it, but from a story point of view I think Szeth getting it back and using it for good would be super awesome. But I can easily see a faceoff in the sky with Nale, Kaladin and Szeth, each wielding two blades and having an awesome show down. TLDR: Nale's Honorblade lets him coumpound his Surgebinding and I reckon that someone needs Jezzrian's blade to do the same and beat Nale.
  5. I have re-read the Stormlight books multiple times at this point: TWoK - 5 WoR - 4 Oathbringer - 3 RoW - 1 I never want to leave them because there is always something more I can find out, or just purely enjoying the books themselves. Has anyone ever talked about, or even thought about a different way to re-read them? I was thinking the other night of taking all the scenes for one character and making a cut of the books focused solely on them. (including scenes where the might not be the POV but are still in the scene. There could be a Kaladin Cut, a Dalinar Cut, even a Shallan Cut for those who would enjoy that. Just as a different way to re-read and see things in a slightly different perspective. Might be a terrible idea as you would lose a lot of what makes the books great from experience the whole world from multiple people.
  6. Hey, does anyone know if there is a place where you can find all of the stories Wit tells in all of the Stromlight Archive?
  7. So I don't understand one thing. We know that But the events of Wok happened hundreds of years after the events of HoA. How is he alive? Maybe I missed something in which case I apologise. But it doesn't make sense to me. Also, I haven't read Row yet so please no spoilers for that one :D. Thanks in advance for answers. Life before death!
  8. Does anyone know who Thaidakar's master is? In RoW Mraiz talks about how his master is Thaidakar but he also has a master. Thaidakar being a cognitive shadow really the only higher rank would be godhood. Which would also mean that the ghostbloods are ruled by a god. Any thoughts?
  9. So, could an awakener, with enough breath, tell an object to be something else, mimicking soulcasting? (Ex: Become Smoke/Air/Stone)
  10. So I know this is fantasy, but Brandon Sanderson always tries to base everything around actual physics (which i love!!!); so I wonder if there is an explanation for this. Light is a form of energy, which can neither be created nor destroyed. We learn in the Stormlight archives that a perfect crystal structure can pretty much hold a set amount of Stormlight indefinitely while continuously giving off light. Is not this a violation of the Conservation of Energy? Once a set amount of Stormlight is infused into the gemstone, should it not countinuously diminish in light over time given the simple fact that it shines. Unless there is a connection to the spiritual realm i don't understand yet, it could not give off light indefinitely as that would make it a perpetual energy source. My reasoning says that if a gemstone can hold Stormlight indefinitely, it would have to give off no light whatsoever. I am not trying to troll here, but am honestly curious to see if there is an explanation for this.
  11. I wrote the first verse for a song/rap based around the opening song from Hamilton, Alexander Hamilton. I might come back and write some more verses. Let me know if you have any suggestions for improving this verse or what to do with the other verses! (I originally had the line corresponding to "What's your name, man?" as "What's your name, gon?" But it didn't rhyme with "Kaladin, Knight Radiant" or with "what little strength I haven't spent," so I decided to switch it for something that fit better, even though it was fun.) I'm not totally happy with the "Keep them safe," at the end, it doesn't sound quite right, but it's the best I could come up with in the middle of the night. Which is, of course, when it came to me to write this thing. EDIT: This should be in Sanderson Fan Works, sorry. Not sure if there's a way to move it. I also tweaked a few words to make some stuff sound better, and correct a couple typos.
  12. So here's my idea. Remember how Navani could faintly feel the rhythms only when she was touching a large amount of Stormlight? Thus proving the rhythms really do come from it? Well, in Mistborn, burning Bronze let a Mistborn hear the Rhythms of other allomancers, therefore giving them the ability to tell which metal they were using. Coincidence? Correlation? Thoughts?
  13. From the album The Stormlight Archive

And more portraits! Here's a tiny one of Rysn.
  14. From the album The Stormlight Archive

A piece I did for this year's Cosmere Inktober! Depicting Wit as he tells the Tale of Mishim - my favorite story by him! Drawing Hoid / Wit is always a bit of a challenge but I think (I hope?) that with each new drawing of him I'm getting a bit closer to how I perceive him in the books. This was lots of fun and I'd like to try a proper depiction of this scene sometime in 2021 as this sequence is especially dear to me.
  15. I was thinking about who would win in a fight a mistborn or radiant and I remembered that dalinar reportedly lifted a stone that takes about ten men to lift which accounting for gravity on roshar and based on how much the average American man can lift means it took about 4200+ Newton’s which is well beyond normal human levels by a lot, even if my math is woefully wrong he is still managing feats well beyond normal. So does stormlight provide a strength buff or is dalinar just super strong on top of that dalinar is while strong still getting on in years. so then I wondered how mu stronger is it then pewter since if stormlight can already heal, grant a coordination bonus, increase speed, etc... and increase strength by as much as this appears to this is ridiculous, the best feat I can think of for pewter is vin crushing a skull with a headbutt which is about 2300 newtons correct me if my math is wrong but this is insanely overpowered if this is a universal strength buff. The fact that we haven’t noticed it is odd but I think it ultimately comes down to most fights with radiants they either have shards where it doesn’t matter, are fighting shardplate people or fused with likely similar levels of strength.
  16. Welcome to the Overlady Reads Dawnshard! In this video, we'll tackle the final book in the Cosmere so far and talk Chiri-Chiri & Rysn with a dash of Lopen. How did you guys find Dawnshard? I thought it was short, sweet, juicy and delicious. Lucy disagrees! What did you guys think? Let us know down below! This is the last video in the Overlady Reads series until Stormlight Archive 5 (Unless I can convince Lucy to read W&W4) so I hope you guys have enjoyed the ride and look forward to what we've got planned in the new year!
  17. So, I know that it's possible for a Mistborn to burn a shardblade, but this is my question. If you were a Mistborn and a Knight Radiant, (like Hoid) could you burn a shardblade without summoning the blade into the physical realm? Would this only work for shard-bearers that aren't Knights? Would this harm your spren?

  19. HI EVERYONE! So a while back I heard Megalovania for the first time and it...utterly destroyed me. So I had to write a Sanderson parody of it, of course. Oathbringer ending spoilers, alternating Odium and Venli POVs. I will probably try to record this later and edit that in, though my voice is trash lol. I really hope you enjoy it, and all feedback is treasured! Odium: Glowing with Light Eager, ready cause they think it's their fight Highprince's army, darkeyes and light All those Radiants, shiny and bright Silly young Rosharans There's Dalinar, not Thrilled to be here (), flaming like a star I appear and victory's not far This is gonna be the deciding spar You're my champion Venli: Humans, you won't win today All his Rhythms punctuate your death Don't you try to make a storm now, just relent The wrong sister lives today - I just don't know what I'm doing here Murderous cries and Light-killing smiles acquaint me with your goals Odium: Sparking through the Everstorm and into the sky The Fused and singers, my whole army, come to take what's mine A son of Honor dares to look me in the eye? Your words are accepted but it's too late I'm here to lay a claim to all your agony and hate Come a little closer ~ I promise you won't regret it What was that you said? You invite pain into your head? (Venli:) Oh, your Passions are strong But my enemy, you are wrong What is this new song?! What is this new song?! My people, massacred, no reason why Any why you tell yourselves is a lie Gemstones start to mean nothing when it's only one day squeezed out of a lifetime I sing, I hum, I scream, I cry I watch as families fall beside me These powers mean nothing when I'm just bluffing Three Realms combine and then I say the Words, now I have the key My lightspren hides deep inside of me Ambition is vicious, yet it vanishes and I'm left kneeling there I've sworn the Oaths, but does it mean anything Voidspren swirl around the Shardic king My sister died so I could be here tonight Can I do better? Glowing with Light, I only want to end this whole fight All those singers, skin patterns bright Keep my hope desperately in sight I'll cross any border I'll disobey any order to free who i can
  20. So as I am listening to the Shardcast Lights episode, I am beginning a theory. The cast was talking about hybrid Lights, and I began to wonder what would happen if you made a hybrid between a normal Light- say, Stormlight- and an Antilight. Here's what we know: Antivoidlight and Voidight annihilate each other when they come into contact. Stormlight and Voidlight can combine into Warlight, in a sort of harmony. Antilight is made from the original type of Light, using some kind of weird Intent* and maybe vacuum capsules, as well as a tone. I'm not really sure where I'm going with this, but I think it's possible to make some kind of Antilight-Light hybrid. If this is the case, then perhaps an Antivoidlight-Stormlight hybrid would allow an enlightened radiant like Renarin to use this to become some kind of one-hit warrior who destroys Fused with ease. On the other hand, perhaps it would just become Antiwarlight. Anyway, I'm super curious to see what could happen with this. Maybe a good question for Brandon's upcoming live stream. Please contact me if you get a WOB!!! If you guys think of other applications for this kind of hybrid, please let me know- this theory is in its infancy. *Forgive me for any capitalization errors, I was confused before Rythym of War and it has not improved.
  21. Ok, all investiture has different forms, such as gaseous. Stormlight is Honor’s gaseous investiture, while Voidlight is Odium’s. What are all the rest? What could combinations be called? 22. Welcome to the Overlady Reads Rhythm of War Part Four!!!! As with the other weeks, this is a spoiler warning for Rhythm of War Part Four. To click on this article is to summon spoilers unto your eyes, the likes of which have never been seen before! I bid you now, TURN BACK, TURN BACK, RETURN FROM WHENCE YOU CAME. Unless you've read Part Four, in which case that's fine. So, let's continue with Kaladin and Navani being miserable in the tower. And miserable they are, Kaladin even gets stuck on Braize for a little while! We finally return for the climax of Adolin and Shallans story, the trial to end all trials! (Just kidding, it's a sham trial that was more politics than justice). We also finally get to discover what's in Gavilars black sphere and quite literally no one could have guessed it before this book BRANDON. Let us know down below your favourite parts of Rhythm of War Part Four below!
  23. Can stormlight be used to fill a metal mind or fuel allomancy? Can burning metal or tapping a metal mind be used to fuel surges? If either is true can they be used to fuel other forms of investiture in the cosmere such as Chromatic Breaths or be fueled by other forms of Investiture? I saw it stated somewhere that Chromatic Breaths can fuel surges.
  24. Zahel and Kaladin (betwixt the sheets ): It wasn’t quite the full magic system vs. magic system combat that we’re craving. But it was so cool to finally see, and such a beautiful promise of things to come. But any thoughts on how Zahel seemed quite comfortable Awakening without verbal commands?
