  1. You want new Stormlight 3 content, right? Well, you're in luck: Tor.com has posted Chapters 1-3 of Oathbringer! You might have read the prologue before (it had been at some readings) but here you have new stuff! I'm not going to spoil a thing about it, so you best head right there for your Stormlight fix before your withdrawal until next week. Here's our forum topic on Oathbringer Chapters 1-3, and for all Oathbringer preview chapters--and their discussion topic--check out the Oathbringer Preview Chapter Index. Remember, keep Oathbringer discussion in our Oathbringer Spoiler Board and the #oathbringer_spoilers channel in the 17th Shard Discord.
  2. has this been done yet or
  3. So i've been thinking about Dalinar's message, "Unite Them".... This could be about the Alethi, but it could also be much more... For example Unite them Shards? Unite the people of the Cosmere... Unite the Heralds... Unite the KR... Thoughts?
  4. Hey there fellow fans, I posted up a series of portraits and moment paintings to the 17th Shard Gallery featuring the Kholin family a few months back, but failed to ever mention it in the forums. :/ Thought I'd bring it up now for your viewing pleasure. And if you like 'em enough, I'm selling prints on my online store at gmhansen.storenvy.com. Here's the Gallery post. Cheers!
  5. So, I was browsing for a particular WoB that I remember, but can't find, when I came across this confusing bit from reddit, posted only a week ago. Apparently, the use of the phrase "____ fell with the rain" is 'consciously and intentionally' reused in various places through out the cosmere. What do you guys think of this? I can't remember any of these scenes off the top of my head, I'll have to search for them later, but if he's admitted to doing it on purpose, there has to be something here right? Is it foreshadowing for some pivotal scene in the cosmere later? A literary twist we won't get until later, like 'on his arms'? Are there any other similarities between these scenes, other than just that phrase? Or is Brandon just leading us on, and there really isn't more to it than there is to his use of maldroitly, or his tendency to end sentences with 'I think'? So many questions from such a simple statement. Sometimes I think being a Sanderson fan is just too much storming work.
  6. The UK covers for the Stormlight Archives drive me insane. I live in the US and I buy the UK editions because all the covers match. But the Stormlight books are over the place with WoK and Oathbringer in a single volume, but WoR broken into 2. And WoK says Volume one, but Oathbringer says book 3. Am I just crazy or is anyone else annoyed when series' covers aren't consistent?
  7. There was a post on r/Cosmere recently by Pillar_of_S4lt. You can find it here. Essentially, they were asking about this death rattle from WoK. My question is a little different from theirs. From what I understand, the general consensus is that the last part of that death rattle is referring to Odium. But why? Why does he have that name? "Broken" gives the impression that he is shattered, but he is unshattered, and has invested far less into a world than most other shards. Is it his going around killing other shards that makes him "broken"? I doubt this because he is simply following his intent, like the other shards are. Has he gone mad, and that is why he is broken? I doubt this, since he seems to be executing a (so far) successful plot to shatter the other Rosharian shards. (I guess one could still be "mad" and intelligent and cunning.) Is this perhaps not a reference to Odium, but to the holder, Rayse? Could Rayse have been broken in some way before taking up the shard? Is that part of why Hoid wrote what he did about him in the letter? I would love to get some input from the Sanderson Savants as to how he fits this description. As for the post by Pillar_of_S4lt, I do think the wording of this death rattle is interesting. it gives the impression that there was some event that happened that separated the first half from the second half. I think the most likely explanation is that the "event" is Odium gaining dominance in Roshar. I believe this is a future event, since Cultivation is still unshattered, which would make this death rattle a prophecy like many of the others. Perhaps that is how book 5 ends, with Odium shattering Cultivation, and the desolation being successful. Books 6-10 would be humanity trying to clean up the mess and win the day. However, what if the arrival of Odium was the "event"? We know that Cultivation and Honor arrived at Roshar long before Odium did. What if there was a third shard who went with them, and together the 3 of them "ruled". This begs the question, where is that shard now? Maybe it up and left when Odium arrived, out of fear. Perhaps it left little bits of investiture on Roshar, such as the fish of the purelake (I haven't seen anything yet to explain how the fish work, and whether or not they are a manifestation of either Honor or Cultivation. If there is a WoB out there I haven't found yet, someone please let me know). I don't have the exact words with me, but in Arcanum Unbounded, Khriss alludes to the idea that there may be more going on in Roshar than meets the eye, some deeper system of magic. Do we know what that is? Could that be a third shard at work, or the leftover bits of one that left? Overall, I find the theory of a third original shard on Roshar to be a bit of a stretch, but I haven't found anything that outright disproves it. Thoughts, anyone?

  9. Is there a compilation of all the material on Hoid from all of the Cosmere books somewhere on this site? I did some basic searches and didn't seem to find what I am looking for.
  10. How much stronger is one burning pewter and duralumin than one burning regular pewter? How does this compare to a radiant infused with maximum Stormlight?
  11. Hi, I was just wondering how the power of Fullborns would scale with regards to Heralds. In particular, how would Kelsier or Spook (who are similarly powerful) match up against a Herald? Assume that both Fullborns have access to all 16 Metals (in unlimited quantities), but no God Metals, and that Herald has access to unlimited Stormlight and is one with offensive capabilities. Furthermore, how would The Lord Ruler have matched up against a Herald? All 10 Heralds? Thanks
  12. Alright, I just finished a reread of Words of Radiance and the last page got me thinking. Wit and Jasnah are speaking and Wit(Hoid) asks her "You're so convinced that there is no God." She started to reply about the Almighty and he cut her off saying "I don't mean the Almighty. Tanavast was a fine enough fellow--bought me drinks once--but he was not God." . Then I thought about the conversation Dalinar had just had with the Stormfather where he referred to the Almightys visions and spoke of a Champion who could fight a God. Well, from Mistborn, we saw that in order to fight a God, you pretty much have to BE a God. And when a God dies, their powers can be absorbed. Splinters can be reunited, as we saw with Sazed. I heard somewhere that Odium chose not to take up Slivers which he could have. Maybe when the Slivers or whatever they are called are all absorbed by one person, Adonalsium will be reborn. I'm thinking the overall scheme of the Cosmere is the new Honor teaming up with Sazed and others Gods and eventually reforming the one true God. What do you guys think?
  13. I grow bored at times, and occasionally random lulzy-conversations spark some interest into that boredom.
  14. Aren't they so ADORABLE? Don't you just wanna hug one of them?(though you shouldn't hug Moash, he might stab you with his spear)
  15. In a bunch of Q&As, many people try to get Brandon to tell them who the third Bondsmith is. Why third? As far as we know, there is only one - Dalinar. What am I missing here?
  16. To sail into a Highstorm was suicide... Started this one at 11:30 this morning and I'm finishing up now, just 7 hours later. Pretty happy with the fast turnaround =) Let me know what you think! And if you like what I'm making, follow me on Instagram! @grantmhansen. there will be more of it coming!
  17. Unfettered II will be released on Audible on June 13. It's available for pre-order now. https://mobile.audible.com/pd/Sci-Fi-Fantasy/Unfettered-II-Audiobook/B071ZM4FHX
  18. In Chapter 17 of Words of Radiance, Shallan is trying to figure out how to use her Lightweaving. She asks Pattern, "So, how do I make it work?" He replies, "Perhaps eat it?" Shallan, of course, finds this a bit ridiculous, but I think she'd be surprised how far some of the other denizens of the Cosmere go to use their powers.

  20. Eyes are one of my favorite things to draw, and since eye color is such a big part of Roshar, I decided to try my hand at it. Because Kaladin is a lighteyed darkeyes, he was the natural choice. I originally wanted to do two sets of eyes, but this seemed like more fun.
  21. I wasn't sure where to put this one, since Hoid is in a lot of books...I haven't ever tried to draw him before but I'm pretty pleased with the result!
  22. Friend recently finished the stormlight archive series and commented on it and i said id find them, I've seen the translations before but i've looked everywhere i can think of, help would be greatly appreciated
  23. Just noticed the similarities in the names of Bavland and Bavadin. Coincidence? Probably. Still, just thought I'd mention it, since we know that Bavadin has influence in a number of places. I remember Tyn and Shallan talkibg about bavlanders sounding like they have rocks in their mouths, and sand is technically small rocks. And who is the shard of Taldain? Bavadin. I dont believe this myself, but Im throwing it out for the fun of it. If someone can find something about wierd religions in Bavland, that would be kind of interesting though.
