  1. As I re-read the stormlight books I have a question in my mind that I’m not sure has been asked of Brandon. Please let me know if a WoB exists? As I am in IT, one of the methods I use to ensure I have the ability to restore a server if something goes terrible is a backup called a snapshot. A point in time capture of the files and state that I can restore should I need. Dalinar’s visions seem to be a “snapshot” in time that contains physical objects that can be manipulated independently, NPC characters with cognition and some ability to react to variations of the participants and the vision has the ability to “bring in connections” to other people as well as the Stormfather himself (a spren in cognitive and physical). When Odium “attacks “ one of these visions it is as if he has to “break down” the event and then his destruction causes physical changes to the vision landscape. Could these visions be a segment in “time” that has a real physical place with the spirit memories of the NPC’s connected? A snapshot of all three realms? we know the Stormfather is reluctant to allow Dalinar to modify the vision but has some ability the “change things”. How far could that “envelope “ be pushed...? if this is true, I could see this “place and time” being used for various other activities such as a safe testing ground for dangerous surges or as a “private meeting” where spies would have a very hard time gathering information about, etc... I ask of the community to let me know if I’m on to something or just insane
  2. We all know of the rhythms on roshar, the singers and larkins hear them, and can use them to manipulate their own emotion. But what about the rhythms elsewhere, like on Scadrial: 1.if a seeker were to burn bronze on roshar they would sense the rhythms, but if a singer can hear rhythms even if they were born off world. So it seems like the rhythms pervade the cosmere but have a special connection to roshar. Additionally it seems like bronze sensing and rhythm hearing may be connected as bronze can hear rhythms, as bronze can hear rhythms and bronze pulses would be “familiar” to a singer. 2. Rhythms and Soothing appear to act very similarly. Both can manipulate emotions and both (as you can see in the latter case with help with enhanced Seeking) rely on pulsing to do so. And with copper disallowing the user to be affected by Soothing, that would all mental allomantic abilities related to the rhythms in some way. 3. Inquisitor “Throbbing” responds to emotions, could the throbbing be in time with the rhythms? Kar said he felt “the pain of joy”. Regardless, seems there are more to rhythms than meets the eyes
  3. Welcome everyone to our Let's Play of Call to Adventure, the Stormlight Archive edition! 4. Ok so we know that when Eshonai died she sticks around as a cognitive shadow for about as long as a mistborn ( minutes not seconds) that was with her only saying the first ideal this got me to thinking... what would happen to a windrunner ( or any order) that sayed the 5th ideal then immediately died. How long would they stick around for... days, weeks, years ... forever? thoughts?

  8. So, I was reading through some sections of Rhythm of War and I must say the swearing of the 4th ideal was a beautiful scene. However, I am left with a question regarding the ideals of the order of windrunners. The first ideal of the order seems fairly straightforward (and as of now I have not seen any variation), in turn the 4th seems to be acceptance and forgiveness of one's failings. However, the third ideal to me seems a touch elusive given the amount of variation we have seen. For context or a refresher I will put some quotes from the coppermind below.
  9. Welcome, one and all, to the OVERLADY READS RHYTHM OF WAR, PART ONE!! For all thinking of watching, THIS VIDEO SPOILS ALL OF RHYTHM OF WAR PART ONE. How did we read Rhythm of War Part One you might ask? Well, we read the wonderful Tor preview chapters, found here: https://www.tor.com/series/rhythm-of-war-brandon-sanderson/ Now, please stop reading if you have not read Rhythm of War Part One. Time to join me and Lucy as we go on another KALADIN SUFFER TRAIN and WATCH AS KALADIN SUFFERS SOME MORE BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT STORMLIGHT IS. KALADIN SUFFERING. We also talk about Navani who is GREAT and Shallan who is WONDERFUL and Venli who is surrounded by MORE INTERESTING CHARACTERS. Let's go on this journey together, let us know your favourite parts of Rhythm of War Part One and what theories you have for the rest of the book!
  10. Okay, so, I'm sorry. I really am. "Crablor" is a meme in the Silmarillion fandom wherein Maglor, during his years of wandering in regret by the seashore, turns into a crab cryptid. They have a whole week for it and everything. Last night, whilst dreaming, my subconscious put two and two together and came up with crab. And so I woke up with the dumbest crossover bunny ever, and I must exorcise by writing it down. At least it's brief.

A piece I did for this year's Cosmere Inktober! Depicting Wit as he tells the Tale of Mishim - my favorite story by him! Drawing Hoid / Wit is always a bit of a challenge but I think (I hope?) that with each new drawing of him I'm getting a bit closer to how I perceive him in the books. This was lots of fun and I'd like to try a proper depiction of this scene sometime in 2021 as this sequence is especially dear to me.
  12. In addition to being a Sanderfan, I play Magic a lot. Since Brandon is also a big Magic player, there are probably some other MTG people on here. As such, I thought I'd share some cards I created based on some Stormlight characters. Please feel free to add your own original cards. For reference, I used the "level up" from Rise of the Eldrazi, the "Bestow" mechanic from Theros, and the energy counters from Kaladesh. There was so much text on Kaladin it wouldn't all fit, so I'm including the text as well. Bestow {3}{r}{w}{w} Syl can only enchant a {r}{w} Human creature Flying, First strike Enchanted creature has "Pay 2{e}: Gain flying and first strike until end of turn. If it has 3 lvl counters, it gains +3/+3 for each 3{e} you have. If it has 4 lvl counters, it gets +1/+5 for every 4{e} you have. If it has 5 lvl counters, (TBD)" Level up {r}{r}{w}{w} Level 2—Add 3{e}. Whenever Kaladin Stormblessed is dealt damage, you may prevent that damage and pay that many {e} Level 3—Add 3{e}. You may search your library for a red and white Spren and put it onto the battlefield attached to Kaladin. Level 4—Add 3{e}. Whenever another target creature is dealt damage, you may create an enchantment attached to that creature called "Windrunner's Protection". It has "When this creature is dealt damage, you may pay that many {e} instead. Since we're not sure what the 5th ideal does, I didn't include anything for it. I can put it in in a few years when Stormlight 5 comes out.
  13. Hi all! I'm back at it again with a stormlight fanfic. This one isn't depressing, I promise! It's an idea I've had in my head for a while and really wanted to get down. Spoiler warning: This fic spoils some elements of Rhythm of War. It doesn't actually spoil Rhythm of War but it uses information we learn in RoW in it. Let me know what you think! Enjoy! Dustbringer Shout out to @Greywatch for betaing!
  14. Hi all, My wife and I made a barn door with a woodburned design of Brandon Sanderson's Knight's Radiant Immortal Words that now separates our front entrance room that we use as a dining room into the living room, and thought you guys might appreciate it. View from the living room: Farther back view: On the other side, we have Tolkien's "Speak Friend and Enter" in Elvish with the White Tree of Gondor and Celtic knotwork: Farther back view: Close up view of the woodburning on the White Tree of Gondor: The wood we used is called Blue Pine, which we got at a Home Depot. I will be putting a clear coat varnish on it, just want to make sure we don't see any woodburning mistakes to sand out and redo. The door weighs about 50 pounds. Feel free to ask questions about it, but if you'd like to read more about the process of how we made it, please visit my wife's blog post about it! SirCasey
  15. This is an article I wrote a couple of months back about foreshadowing in fantasy. It is one of my favorite topics to talk about, as evidenced by this, and how I immediately jumped to the chance of being on the Dusty Wheel's episode on foreshadowing. I'd love to discuss it with all of you, and hear your opinions on the topic. Copy_of_Foreshadowing.pdf
  16. Hey there. I'm new to the forums so I have no Idea if this has come up before. I wanted to have a quick chat about why the Nale doesn't want to go grab Jezzrian's Honorblade off Sezth in Chapter 77 of RoW and the implications of it for the future of Stormlight. So while Nale is having his super friendly chat with Venli and Ulim he says, Quote: "There is a man here in the city tonight. I have been tracking him due to his unusual circumstances. He possesses an artifact that belonged to a friend of mine. I have sworn not to touch said artifact, for... reasons that are unimportant to you." Unquote So Nale clearly knows about Szeth and Jezzrian's blade and that made me think of what possible reason he (and i'm going to assume the other Heralds) could have for not taking the Honorblade. My immediate thought is that when Honor made the Honorblades he made all the Heralds swear to not take more than one so they couldn't gain what he percieved to be to much power. (I think the "chains" Honor had put on Bondsmiths and the Radiant Oaths themselves are other examples of him not wanting people to access to much power) So I started thinking about what would happen if someone was bonded to more than one Honorblade at a time. I believe it would certainly grant access to all the avaliable surges associate with the blades. But that's not what really intrigued me. I started thinking about what would happen if you had access to two overlapping blades. For example, lets say that someone became bonded to both the Edgedancer and the Truthwatcher Honorblades. This would give them access to the Progression surge from two different sources. I think that this would likely have a similar effect to how compounding works on Scadrial. For example, two Progression blades could use Regrowth to heal faster, with less Stormlight and probably for more serious and longer lingering wounds. Now I think this is especially relevant when it comes to the (forgive my phrasing) power level of Nale. We know that he is both a Skybreaker of the Fifth Ideal and that he is bonded to his Honorblade, giving him acess to the Surges of Gravitation and Division twice. I agrue that because of this Nale is probably the most powerful Surgebinder on Roshar, (maybe discounting insane Connection Bonsmith stuff). I assume he'd be almost impossible to kill as he would process Stormlight at such an efficeient rate as to essentially make him as close to a perfect container as the leaky human body can be. I think his compounded Gravitation makes him incredibly fast and almost certainly a better sky warrior than even the Heavenly Ones and I could easily see compounded Division as being a potential cause of the Shattered Plains, so you really don't want to be around that. Combine this with him being a Herald (and I would guess one of the upper half in terms of best fighters) and you have one incredibly scary problem to deal with. So. Here is my prediction for book 5. At some point in their journey to Shinovar, Szeth and Kaladin are going to have to go toe to toe with Nale and he is going to wreck him. We've already seen that Szeth is not even a slight threat and I can't imagine Kaladin will be much better. So I reckon that one of them is going to have to take Jezzrian's blade off Moash and use it to counpound their abilities. From a Surgebinding mechanics point of view, it would make more sense for Kaladin to have it, but from a story point of view I think Szeth getting it back and using it for good would be super awesome. But I can easily see a faceoff in the sky with Nale, Kaladin and Szeth, each wielding two blades and having an awesome show down. TLDR: Nale's Honorblade lets him coumpound his Surgebinding and I reckon that someone needs Jezzrian's blade to do the same and beat Nale.
  17. I have re-read the Stormlight books multiple times at this point: TWoK - 5 WoR - 4 Oathbringer - 3 RoW - 1 I never want to leave them because there is always something more I can find out, or just purely enjoying the books themselves. Has anyone ever talked about, or even thought about a different way to re-read them? I was thinking the other night of taking all the scenes for one character and making a cut of the books focused solely on them. (including scenes where the might not be the POV but are still in the scene. There could be a Kaladin Cut, a Dalinar Cut, even a Shallan Cut for those who would enjoy that. Just as a different way to re-read and see things in a slightly different perspective. Might be a terrible idea as you would lose a lot of what makes the books great from experience the whole world from multiple people.
  18. Hey, does anyone know if there is a place where you can find all of the stories Wit tells in all of the Stromlight Archive?
  19. So I don't understand one thing. We know that But the events of Wok happened hundreds of years after the events of HoA. How is he alive? Maybe I missed something in which case I apologise. But it doesn't make sense to me. Also, I haven't read Row yet so please no spoilers for that one :D. Thanks in advance for answers. Life before death!
  20. Does anyone know who Thaidakar's master is? In RoW Mraiz talks about how his master is Thaidakar but he also has a master. Thaidakar being a cognitive shadow really the only higher rank would be godhood. Which would also mean that the ghostbloods are ruled by a god. Any thoughts?
  21. So, could an awakener, with enough breath, tell an object to be something else, mimicking soulcasting? (Ex: Become Smoke/Air/Stone)
  22. So I know this is fantasy, but Brandon Sanderson always tries to base everything around actual physics (which i love!!!); so I wonder if there is an explanation for this. Light is a form of energy, which can neither be created nor destroyed. We learn in the Stormlight archives that a perfect crystal structure can pretty much hold a set amount of Stormlight indefinitely while continuously giving off light. Is not this a violation of the Conservation of Energy? Once a set amount of Stormlight is infused into the gemstone, should it not countinuously diminish in light over time given the simple fact that it shines. Unless there is a connection to the spiritual realm i don't understand yet, it could not give off light indefinitely as that would make it a perpetual energy source. My reasoning says that if a gemstone can hold Stormlight indefinitely, it would have to give off no light whatsoever. I am not trying to troll here, but am honestly curious to see if there is an explanation for this.
  23. Welcome to the Overlady Reads Dawnshard! In this video, we'll tackle the final book in the Cosmere so far and talk Chiri-Chiri & Rysn with a dash of Lopen. How did you guys find Dawnshard? I thought it was short, sweet, juicy and delicious. Lucy disagrees! What did you guys think? Let us know down below! This is the last video in the Overlady Reads series until Stormlight Archive 5 (Unless I can convince Lucy to read W&W4) so I hope you guys have enjoyed the ride and look forward to what we've got planned in the new year!
