  1. From the album: Shalladin

The silly result of a fashion challenge over on my tumblr. The prompt was "Shallan + Fingerless gloves"
  2. From the album: Radiant

So, yeah this is my Dalinar chibi I'm sorry if you can't see him very well. This is my first attempt at fan art so I apologize for the bad drawing
  3. So I'm re-reading Warbreaker and couldn't help but pause when I got to the start of Chapter 54 where Vivenna is trying to get information out of a beggar named Tuft. Particularly, because of this description; The thing that jumped out was the lack of eye patch. Coincidence? Probably. But it was enough to give me pause and buy a ticket for the Crazy Theory Train. So here goes. - I've always assumed that Gaz has a) not worn an eye patch for a long time/ever within the camps, and b ) has developed this descriptive marker and can be identified by it Spoiler for Words of Radiance below: It's probably not too uncommon to see someone in the war camps with only one eye (or at least I would assume, as they are at war). But presumably (going off IRL convention) most of these soldiers wear eye patches, whereas Gaz distinctively doesn't. - Gaz' tic of looking to the side: most people I've read have taken this to be tied in with discomfort from his reduced perception, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a similar tic in someone who has lived on the street and who is constantly checking for nearby danger. - Gaz does eventually get an eye patch. But why? His issue (from the small amount we have from his POV) seems to come from the lack of perception in one half of his visual field and this doesn't change by adding an eye patch. However, the way other people see him might change. (Again, spoiler above) - Gaz' money problems could potentially lead to the situation where he's forced into the streets This is as solid as a block of Swiss cheese and even while writing this I was arguing with myself about things that didn't fit. But eh, I'm interested in this very unlikely, but *maybe* scenario. (Also if anyone happens to know of previous discussion re. this I would be forever grateful for links as I've been unsuccessful at finding anything).
  4. Is it possible for a spren to travel between systems if bonded to a Parshendi, and residing in its gemheart? I know they can't normally travel outside the rosharian system, but would this be a special case or would they still be stuck?
  5. From the album: Stormlight Archive desktop wallpapers

Here's a simpler version of a Bridge Four wallpaper.
  6. From the album: My Stormlight Artwork

A concept piece of what a shardplate helm might look like if a full radiant was wearing it.
  7. We're back with more Oathbringer discussion, and this time, we have a spicy topic: Sja-anat and Voidbinding. There's obviously heavy Oathbringer spoilers here (with some minor discussion from Hero of Ages), so be warned. We're here to talk about the Unmade, corrupted spren, Voidbinding, and more--though maybe we end up confusing ourselves more than anything. We record these in advance, so we talk about the "news" of the new Secret Project. Brandon recently said that it is not cosmere, so our speculation is all worthless. But, I thought some Hemalurgy puns (nailed it) were funny, so I kept that in. Today we have Eric (Chaos), Ian (WeiryWriter), David (Windrunner), and Alyx (FeatherWriter). Also starring in today's episode is my inconsistent pronounciation of Sja-anat, so I'm sure none of you will be triggered by that, right? Right?
  8. AG4/AN1: A Fresh Start A mountain stood high above the land that had been a kingdom, surrounded by a thousand fires. Beneath its steady gaze, armies fought relentlessly through the days, ceasing only to take shelter from highstorms. Atop that mountain sat a small town, hosting only a single visible fire in the very centre of the town. “Once, when your parents were but children, there was peace,” an old woman said, making images of happiness and sunshine appear in the flames. “And before that, before even your father’s father’s father’s father lived, there was another war. Another Desolation.” Images of fires in the darkness appeared, first dozens but slowly going out. “War such as the land had never known ravaged the world, and humans died by the tens of thousands. Odium corrupted many more.” All but the last spark had gone out, and it flickered. “But we survived.” The spark flickered again, but it remained. “The Heralds were there to help us, and we survived.” The fire flared and grew, until it filled the entire vision and melded with the fire already there. She smiled at the children. “We’ll survive this one, too. There will be peace again. Now, go on, shoo! Your parents will be wondering where you’ve been.” The children giggled and scattered, but Sherrah stayed and watched the fire. “Peace again,” she murmured to herself, thinking of the campfires that were moving further up the mountain every night. “Someday.” If people were asked to describe Narg, they’d generally say that he was a man - who while unfortunate in life - that just got through life. Not one to interact with people, but also not one to stay in all day. Not one for physical labour, but also not someone who avoids it. Not one for repetitive sentences, but also unable to avoid them. But when pressed for more details about the elusive Narg, most would shrug and just leave with a ‘Narg is Narg, ya know?’. However, we at Roshar Reporting decided to get the full scoop on Narg, so decided to ask Narg about Narg. We’ve edited the boring parts of the interview out, as reporters often do. If anyone would like to have a full transcript involving the incident with the eggs, subscribe today for only 1 mark a month. As well as our feature piece on Narg, we have a story about why Desolations are called Desolations and not Desotructions on Page 4. For the purposes of this interview, Narg will be referred to as Narg and I will be referred to as Mark (also the price of our subscription). Mark: So Narg, it seems like no-one really gets to know you that well, do you even agree with that? Narg: Well I’d always kind of thought that, but I guess now I know it’s true, so thanks for that. Mark: So why did you even think that in the first place? Narg: You think that’s even a question? Don’t answer that. It’s probably because of my name, you know anyone else with the name Narg? Mark: No. Narg: Exactly, doesn’t roll of the tongue now does it? But what makes things even worse is that all the kids think it’s the funniest thing ever, you know how kids are. Leave the house and all I hear is ‘Nargle Nargle, Gives us a Giggle’. That was the first creative thing they did, and let me tell you, these kids are born poets. Mark: Could you give us any more examples? Narg: Well there’s ‘Nargle Nargle, Lives in a Jungle’, then you got ‘Nargle Nargle, Won’t even Struggle’ and don’t forget ‘Nargle Nargle, Forever Single’, Mark: Okay I think that might be enough for now, thanks. So you think that the name Narg is the cause for all your social struggles? Narg: To put it bluntly, yes. Sure there might be other reasons for it, but seriously Narg is just such a stupid name that how can I even do anything with it. But I have found a solution to that problem, which I’m sure you’ll understand eventually. Is that all? Mark: Could you not elaborate on your solution now? Narg: Oh no, you see it only starts in around a week or so. Expect a sudden increase in subscribers, followed by a slow decline in those subscribers. Mark: Thanks? Narg: No problem, now I got things to do so farewell for now. Maybe I’ll even get another interview soon. After that, Narg went to barter for some goods, and you know what? I could hear the songs accompanying him, so I guess he had a point there. Another year of SE, and it doesn’t appear that you’ve had your fill of murdering each other yet… 2017 was a year of a number of changes to SE, beginning with the successful implementation of cosmetic roles in the last AG, and the subsequent return to greater numbers of Sanderson games being played. Later in the year, we saw a changing of the guard of the moderators, saying a sad farewell to Metacognition and Gamma Fiend, with Seonid and myself now joining Wilson and Alv to run this subforum. We’re ending the year (albeit belatedly) on a note of change, too, and are proud to announce that Anonymous Games have been approved. This game, AG4, will be the first Anonymous Game, and further Anonymous Games will be played once each quarter. In order to sign up to run an anonymous game, you must have either GMd 4 games, or have played 15 games. To run an anonymous game, you must be at the top of both the anonymous waitlist, and that of another format. Anonymous Games are not a format of their own, but act as a modifier to games of a differing format. Unfortunately, 2017 also saw changes in our forum that have been less positive, with an increasing tendency towards inactivity. In the spirit of Cosmetic Roles last year, there will be a competition this game for three non-Sanderson game passes, allowing you to run a game not set in one of Sanderson’s works. This year, however, the competition will be based on activity, with a vote amongst players at the end of the game on which players have been the most active, and have done the most to encourage activity. Last year, Meta mentioned we had a secret challenge for three more non-Sanderson game passes. That challenge was also based on activity. We will be awarding those after this game ends as well. And now for the biggest change. To further combat the inactive tendency, we’re rolling out a warning system. At the end of each game, the impartial moderator will ask the GM for a list of the people who went inactive for most of the game. Those who gave the GM a heads-up regarding real life issues won’t have anything to worry about, but people who gave no heads-up will get a warning (this also includes people whose heads-up was just “I don’t feel like playing anymore”). One warning is like a minor slap on the wrist, merely meant to get a player realizing that going inactive without warning isn’t okay. It’s not meant to be a condemnation or make players feel unwanted in the games. Getting two warnings in three games, or three warnings in a six-month period will result in a three month ban from playing. Please, everyone, before you sign up for a game, think about whether you have time to play. If you know something will come up and you’ll only be able to play for so long, don’t sign up. This applies even if the GM would really like a certain number of players. Or if you think you’ll be dead by the time you’d go inactive. If something comes up unexpectedly, that’s understandable. Just let the GM know, and you’ll be fine. Hopefully, with everyone paying attention to their own activity, and perhaps reaching out to include others in the game so everyone is invested (and therefore less likely to go inactive), we can fix this inactivity problem. Housekeeping: AG4/AN1 will begin in 7 days time, at 10pm GMT on the 13th January. Ties will result in an even chance of death between all those tied for the most votes, with a single death occurring. Two votes minimum are required for a lynch. PMs are open until there are no remaining Edgedancers. Group PMs are allowed. Please include Stink and myself in all PMs. The order of actions will be as follows: -Lightweaver -Skybreaker -Windrunner -Dustbringer/Odium’s Sympathisers’ kill Wilson will be the IM for this game. In the first instance, please take any issues to Stink and myself, but if we’re unable to resolve them, or if there’s a conflict of interest, Wilson will step in to facilitate a resolution. Anonymous Accounts: Please sign up by PMing both Stink and myself, with your PM in the format: AG4: [Your Name]. At the start of the game, you will be issued an anonymous account. There are a number of rules associated with the use of an Anonymous Account. Please follow them carefully. Given the potential for abuse of Anonymous Accounts, any rule breaking using the accounts will be dealt with harshly. 1) Do not change the password of the anonymous account you are issued. Wilson, Stink and I will have access to all anonymous accounts for the duration of the game. 2) Do not use the anonymous accounts to PM any non-anonymous account, other than the accounts of the GMs. Please do not use your normal accounts to PM anonymous accounts. 3) Do not tell any other player or individual associated with SE, whether you are playing or not playing the Anonymous Game. Player identities will be revealed after the game, not on the death of their avatar. Players must not reveal their own identity after their death, until the end of the game, including in the dead/spec doc. Players wishing to spectate rather than play should PM Stink and myself for a link to the spectator doc. Questions and rules clarifications should be submitted in your sign up PMs, and will be posted by myself in the signups thread. 4) Do not change anything cosmetic about the accounts, including member title, username, signature, and avatar. Factions: Roles: This thread will be locked. As a reminder, and for those of you who haven’t read the rules (go back and do so), sign ups and spec doc requests must be by PM to Stink and myself, in the format AG4: [Your Name]. Quick Links:
  9. From the album: General SA Art

I really grew to love Lift after reading Edgedancer and Oathbringer =)
  10. From the album: General SA Art

I’m currently working on a bunch of rough character faceshots for OB, as a study for some larger pieces I’ve intended to draw since long ago =) The first one is Kaladin! (Man, I hadn’t seriously drawn him for several months…)
  11. Hey guys! I'm super excited to share with you my latest tattoo, the Immortal Words from these amazing books which I love soo much! I'm so happy with how it turned out, and I couldn't wait to share it with you all!
  12. It's hinted at in Oathbringer that the big pillar of gemstones in the library is part of a fabrial, or that the city itself is a fabrial. Is it unlikely that the spren in this fabrial was the Sibling? We know that all fabrials require a spren, and the Sibling is just another spren. Indeed, Re-Shephir has once been trapped in a gemstone, and at the end of the book Nargaoul is in the gemstone called King's Drop, which is a gemstone that doesn't lose stormlight and which the unmade supposedly would be incapable of getting out of. This idea has got to have some measure of accuracy. Also, the King's Drop brings up more questions: Must the gemstone be cut perfectly* for the spren inside to be incapable of escape, since other fabrials lose stormlight and their spren don't escape. * cut perfectly, meaning stormlight doesn't leek from it So if it wasn't the cut that mattered (which is still under debate, by the way), was it the size of the gem Dalinar needed? Because there were plenty of other gems around to use. What would a fabrial with that cut (and with Nargaoul inside) do? We know from Navani's notebook that the cut of the gem influences what the fabrial does. Are there multiple ways to cut a gem so that it doesn't leek? Could such a gem trap Odium without having to make an oathpact? And what does the Urithiru fabrial do anyway? The elevators seem to work independently of that. It's in the middle of the library, so that might be a clue.
  13. From the album: The Girl who Looked Up

I really wanted to paint Syl high up, carefree as ever. This tested my skills with some perspective and depth. The original composition I had is super bad- I got a lot of help online! I also tried a new way to choose my colors and it turned into a full-blown painting instead of the lined drawing I had planned. Overall I'm happy for where I'm at on my art journey. But I won't forget what will be my most important step.
  14. From the album: Drawings by Narcoleptic Axolotl

I know the midnight essence was supposed to be a more crustacean-like creature, at least in this instance, and I don't think Dalinar had a beard. Maybe Heb did. That's not the point. This is how I imagined the scene when I read it.
  15. Hail Sharders I was recently rereading Way of Kings when I reached chapter 36 (pg 650) in the bit of text underneath the chapter title it says this: "Taking the Dawnshard, known to bind any creature voidish or mortal, he crawled up the steps crafted for Heralds, ten strides apiece, toward the grand temple above." Noting that it says the Dawnshard could bind any creature voidish or mortal, could we not say that it could imprison an Unmade? In Oathbringer, Dalinar takes the ruby known as Honor's Drop and uses it to imprison the Thrill. Could it be possible that the Dawnshards were perfectly it gems? Meant to bond foes of either side? This is just a theory, and I'm unsure if this is what Brandon entails, but I find it rather interesting.
  16. Hey all, Long time lurker, first time (I think?) poster! Was discussing Oathbringer today at lunch with a friend who is reading SA - I didn't spoil Oathbringer for him, I swear! - and I came to a realization. We know that Kaladin's realization which lead him to the Third Ideal was that "The King was Dalinar's Tien"... meaning Elhokar. But I thought of another interpretation for that... and my apologies if someone has already pointed this out... Tien's death seems to be the point that broke Kaladin enough to start him on the path to Radianthood. I would be willing to argue that Gavilar's death was the same for Dalinar... so while, in the present, Elhokar is Dalinar's Tien, what started Dalinar on the steps to Radianthood was actually Gavilar's death... making BOTH kings Dalinar's Tien. Dalinar was already interacting with a spren in The Way of Kings when he started getting the visions... and Syl commented to Kal in OB that she had vague memories of someone associated with Kal who had to be Tien, meaning she was vaguely aware of Kal before Tien's death... but while Kal was good with a spear before Tien's death, it was only after Tien's death that strange things started happening around him. I just wanted to get this thought down. I may come back and clean it up, but I would be happy to hear opinions!
  17. Hey all, I had a question about the timing during these three books in the title of this topic. So, we know Galladon and Demoux are in Stormlight nicknamed Grump and Thinker respectively. Thus it leads me to think that these three book series are taking place about a few years or so apart. That is all I could find out. What do you guys think?
  18. From the album: Cosmeme & Crossmere

    I was asked to do this and it turned out to be a lot of fun 1. Male!Evi & Female!Dalinar (25 years old) 2. Female!Kaladin (in slave wagon) 3. Male!Veil & Male!Shallan 4. Female!Wit (The greatest B**ch all across the Cosmere) 5. Bonus: Female!Szeth
  19. I've been thinking that the way that allomancers push on metals in mistborn doesn't actually seem like pushing. You can't really push on a specific area, you have to affect the object as a whole. What really got me thinking was that the lighter object will be pushed back farther. This doesn't seem like pushing to me, it seems more like magnetism or gravity. We've already seen that most investiture forms are actually quite similar in what they do, the ones in SA and Mistborn are pretty similar, or at least more so than the ones on Nalthis. Anyway, in SA, there is a surge called Gravitation. GRAVITATION. If that wasn't a huge clue I don't know what was. In the Ars Arcanum, Gravitation is described as the 'Surge of Gravity'. What this means is that Investiture can affect Gravity. What especially caught my attention was that Gravitation can make objects fall towards or away from you. This is surprisingly similar to the pushing and pulling of metals in Mistborn, and since the magic systems are similar, they most probably are the same thing, meaning that: Allomancers don't actually pull/push on metals. Instead, they gravitationally attract or repel the metals In case you weren't convinced, the blue lines in Mistborn stem from your CENTRE OF GRAVITY and gravity affects you at your CENTRE OF GRAVITY.
  20. How are all the names pronounced? when listening to the Splitercast Reads I noticed that Feathers pronounced many names differently than I do. A-do-lin: A as in apple, stress on the first syllable Re-NAR-in SA-dee-us shuh-LAHN Syl: pronounced like 'window sill' Tyn: pronounced like 'tin can' KAL-uh-din Also, I've heard Jasnah's name pronounced with a 'Y' in the place of the 'J.' Where did that come from? Opinions? It would be really nice if Sanderson had a pronunciation guide.
