So I think at this point most people who are knee-deep into the cosmere have noticed that the allomantic metals effect all types of investiture we have seen it interact with. aluminium is the largest example of this, as it apears in almost every book series we have seen in the cosmere now, with the exception of, if im not mistaken, Elantris. but beyond aluminum, I haven't really seen how the other allomantic metals interact with investiture. we got some useful tidbits in ROW with navani, and more usefull tidbits specifically with steel and iron in ToTES. So im making this thread for discussion on possibilites on how the other allomantic metals, like tin, bendalloy, or copper, actually effect other types of investiture. what would happen if I made an aon out of duralumin? would an allomantic steel wall physically repel a shard bearer? stuff like that! :b

So ima just dig right in with my theory and yall can give your thoughts. I might be grasping a little or clinging onto vague ideas but I like the theory so I might as well post it. Base allomancy comes in a set of 16 with subsets; Push, Pull, Internal, External, physical, mental, temporal, and enhancement. pretty basic allomancy knowledge, right? but we also know that every god metal can make their OWN allomantic sets, with atium alloys as our proof. the 11th metal (gold and atium) and the atium mistborn burn (atium and electrum). now usually there wouldn't be much for me to build off after that. each god metal is another set of 16, how could we possibly figure out what each power will do without knowing something like the subject of the powers, like physical in the base set. except we DO know one of the subsets for ruin's set of allomancy. and its the same as the base set. in fact the powers are nearly identical, except for one key difference. they have switched from internal, to external. gold is an internal metal, so is electrum. but their atium alloy counterparts aren't. the 11th metal lets you see other peoples past(or potential future still not sure) selves. but gold lets you see your own past/potential futrue self. nearly identical powers, except for the fact that the subset has flipped. so here is the theory. are ALL the allomantic powers in ruin's allomancy, simply the same power with a subset flipped? how would that translate into powers like tin, or pewter? or duralumin? we already have a power that essentialy works the same as duralumin, except it is focused externally. its already a thing in base allomancy. is it simply a fluke? a coincidence? or, does this perhaps work like the power overlaps in the knight's Radiant orders? they share power types across certain orders. are we maybe just seeing something similar to that? do ruin and preservation simply share an allomantic subset, changed slightly to fit them? or is it even less than that, just sharing these two powers, used in separate ways, because i cannot fathom how you can use time bubbles internally. or is it something else yet again? does ruin have external powers, and then a different subset, that isnt internal at all? Sorry, I know thats a lot more question than theory, but Its been scratching in my head for a while.

Could stormlight sustain a radiant in space? we know that a radiant does not need to breathe when holding stormlight, and there is no atmoshpere, so I genuinly cannot decide if the radiant will lose stormlight faster, slower, the same or not at all. would lashings even work if you aren't experiencing gravity?

I recently finished my first reread of Rithmatist in a while, and a few things struck me this time: We know the Forgotten in Harding was "killed" with the acid after it was driven to reveal itself by the clockworks. We also know that Harding was not a rithmatist before being taken by a Forgotten (or after it was banished/destroyed). We "know" a Forgotten (or something similar) has Nalizar and was unaffected by the acid thrown on him because it was entirely inside Nalizar when Joel tossed the acid at him on the stairs. We know that the Forgotten in Harding seemed "unintelligent," not capable of speech beyond grunts and screams. The Forgotten in Nalizar seems much more intelligent and cunning. Conclusion: The Forgotten in Nalizar is smarter/stronger because Nalizar already had a Shadowblaze bond (iow: Harding himself was corrupted by the Forgotten; but in Nalizar, it was his bonded Shadowblaze that was corrupted). Also, a bit of Fridge Horror: They mentioned a number of times that the Northern Isles (what would become the United Isles) were depopulated before the Europeans arrived.

So now that Taravangian has Ascended, what happens to his boon/curse? If he is free of it, will his release from the boon/curse be his downfall? We know that he lost to Odium merely to save Kharbranth, specifically his own family and grandchildren (whom he also spared of any details concerning his political plotting). Cultivation made it so that his intelligence and empathy would be inversely related on any given day, so if he acts with intellect and empathy/passion, will he break down at the end of Book 5 because of needing to save his grandchildren in one scene? We know at the end of RoW, he's drinking in all this power and blinding everything else out, including Cultivation's offer to guide and teach him. So maybe in Book 5, we see that overwhelming amount of knowledge clear up as he accesses his deep emotion for his own family. Selfish, but it might just save Roshar—and "save them all"—from Odium. Thoughts?

When Vin is ascending she draws upon the mists and they fuel her metal reserves. However, we know that the mists are the gaseous form of Lerasium and therefore would only make her Mistborn but she already is. So how does this work? Can other people draw upon the Mists and how would that work and what would it do?

what exactly makes the bondsmiths so powerful compared to other radients. people seem to think that they are the most powerful group but what about surges like transformation or division. flight? why are they considered so powerful

I'm aware that there are things going around about why Kaladin remained awake, as well as why his powers kinda worked. Venli asked at one point about the 9 kinds of Fused versus the 10 orders of Radiant, and which one was missing. The Fused she asked claimed Adhesion wasn't an actual Surge. This happens to be the only ability that Kaladin was able to use. Perhaps, as the most senior Wind runner, he had the closest relationship with the Surges, thus the one remaining was more powerful. It's also worth noting that the Windrunners were the only ones that showed signs of maybe kinda waking up during that time. I think this Surge was the reason.

RoW - 1st reread after 3 years Listening to the audiobook again after such a long time, the following were the memorable points I could actually listen to Venli/Eshonai’s portions. I half listened to them the first time around. Just couldn’t deal with Venli’s redemption arc after what she did. Just felt unemotional through the first part which I felt was a bit of setup. I was quite happy with the feeling of moving on. Then the attack on the tower went into full gear and the sense of claustrophobia was back. Even now, it feels like big bulgy book. All scenes individually work. Yet, the effect of the bulge was that it just felt too big. For example, I loved Notem’s cameo, yet it could have been sacrificed. The emotional pieces still tugged the strings. Maya’s courtroom scene, Veil’s final departure, Teft’s final scene and Kaladin’s oath all stood out. Other memorable ones were Raboniel’s final dialogue, Warlight intro, Venli’s final scene with her mother and Eshonai’s end. At times, I felt like there were so many scenes that I had forgotten. I remember listening the whole book the first time. Yet, so many sections just felt brand new! For example, I had completely forgotten that Kaladin’s next quest would involve getting Ishar and going with Szeth. Things I picked up (everyone else may already know) Gavilar wasn’t trying to to bond. He had expressly rejected the voidspren (mentioned by Ulim). His main character assassins were Navani after an argument and Nale. Somehow, I see another redemption arc incoming. Lift was now going around with a “chicken”. Did she pick up Mraize’s bird (sixth of dusk) Renarin sent gemstones to Taravangians with an apology on his last day. And also earlier met him. Interesting Taravangisn internal monologue there. So, he clearly knew about his upcoming death. Things I don’t get Why was Odium so much in panic due to the tower? There was so much of an assumption that he could lose. What was Mraize’s motivations here to provide Lift to Raboniel? If the Ghostbloods (Lost Metal Spoilers) Theories The hole in the agreement Odium might try and use is that he might keep everything except Alethkar and Herdaz that he already owns. So, that might mean another attack on Thelena, Tukar, Emuul etc. to grab pretty much everything in the intervening 10 days before the contest of champions. A common theory I’ve read here is that some Radiants may ascend. I am leaning towards it more. As there is a broken bond now available in the oathpact, Dalinar may bind Kaladin to it. Design may help Wit remember / find out about memory tampering by Odium I think the Recreance might have been the reaction to the Singer’s becoming Parshmen. So, the KRs were giving up their powers, like a disarmament treaty. long held theory - Dalinar’s other visions are from the cognitive shadow of Gavilar. Mysteries / Looking forward to How will the Dawnshard aspect still fit in? More inkspren possibly after Maya’s testimony Shattered Plains – so many hints towards its formation being man made. Maybe it might get resolved in Book 5. This is from Oathbringer – still waiting for Azure’s blade tech for non-spren shardblades

(New to the cosmere here). When determining the terms of the contest of champions, Odium says Hoid (Cephandrius) could’ve been a god but chose otherwise. Did 16 mortals kill Adolnasium to become the vessels of the shards we know today? Not specifically humans, but mortals, as Cultivation is a dragon. Then again, if dragons are mortal, why is Frost considered functionally immortal? Is it because he’s just really old?

What exactly is happening here? This is when Moash is in the burning manor basement with Kaladin. Moash is taunting him when a pure, concentrated light explodes into the room: The figure in the light was Renarin, so is this his attempt at lightweaving? Does he lightweave possibilities (as he is able to see them), and he saw Moash’s alternative path which would’ve led to him living as a respectable Radiant Windrunner? Why does this cause Moash to feel pain again (he says to take the pain away)? This also ties in with Moash at the end, when he begins to feel pain: Is this weakening of the Connection similar to the scene in Ch. 8? Thoughts?

Realizing that if Book 5 ends 10 days after the end of RoW (day of the contest), what part do Shallan and Adolin play? They'll still be traveling in the Cognitive Realm for at least 10 days, and they have no idea what's happening except with Wit and his communications box. They may be the part of the story that reveals a few big twists, investigating what truly happened at the Recreance. Thoughts?

I’ve been wondering about this one, partially because I feel like this will play a part in Book 5 (theory coming soon): How does the Stormfather slow time for someone in the highstorm? We saw this a little bit when Taravangian Ascended, that a high concentration of Investiture dilates time around those present. Also, how long can this last? The Stormfather says not too long, so let’s say a few seconds. But how long does that feel to the individual? For Kaladin, it was just a few minutes, but could it be longer?

We know Dalinar first wanted to "Unite them", that is, all of Roshar. Now, as a Radiant Bondsmith, he is determined to reinstate the Oathpact. For Navani, given that she is fast learning how to attune rhythms, will she be the key to uniting singers and humans in Book 5?

Ok so the theory that the tranquiline halls are somehow real has been going around for a bit on the forums, and I like most people mostly dismissed it as extremely unlikely to be the case, however in light of autonomy’s actions within the lost metal it strikes me that maybe the theory should not be dismissed and I will outline a few reasons for this as well as I think the most logical version of theory goes. 1. Odium’s actions on roshar have been entirely non-conducive to his stated good which are a. Killing shards- it seems like once the fused were made odium had clearly given up on easily or quickly splintering honor or cultivation, clearly this was still on the table but his later stated plans seem to indicate that his main plan had switched from just running around and splintering shards quickly to his cosmere army plan. b. Winning the war- it also further strikes me that in light of how autonomy has just given her people all this advanced technology that Odium’s actions have not been helpful in terms of winning the war at all. If quick victory was what he truly wanted all he would need to do is introduce his forces to guns, even if the resources were somewhat problematic on roshar soulcasting renders that a non-issue. c. Training an army- from here it also seems like Odium’s plan to train an army is also incredibly stupid, because it seems as if without the desolation’s roshar would have nearly 7000 years of advanced civilization, they would be so far ahead of other civilizations it wouldn’t even be fair. now I think it’s fair to say that maybe he expected a quick war, but I think after the first desolation it should’ve become clear that killing 9/10 people on the planet every desolation wouldn’t get you an army, and yet he seemed pretty confident in this plan and taravangian seemingly approved. furthermore Odium’s plan just doesn’t seem to make sense because of those level of casualties, trained soldiers do not contribute to your army if they are dead. I will also grant that now it seems like Odium’s goal has become to just win outright, but I think that may be because it’s gone on longer than he would have liked and he needs it to end. but ultimately there are very few ways in which Odium’s plan can somehow manage to bypass these issues unless his goal was not to own the war but to draw it out as long as possible and the army he trained was made of the dead form the 7000 years of war and only now has he decided it’s time to end it after a far too lengthy gap(because odium was gonna win, if taln hadn’t done his thing). 2. granted all of this does not point to the tranquiline halls and Odium’s undead army so let me explain why I think that is a logical explanation for these discrepancies. my main point here rests on one question- what does the thrill do for odium? the thrill 1. Enhances the combat abilities of the afflicted, and 2. Opens them up to Odium’s influence. but based on what we’ve seen the first seems to hep odium only minimally and the second doesn’t seem to allow him to control them only to influence them and so doesn’t seem to have proved that helpful. however the things that are important here are 1. Where does the thrill manifest and 2. How do shards get the ability to go influence people. the answer to 1 is obvious alethkar and vedenar highly militant vorin nations, the ones with the myth of the tranquiline halls in the first place and the ones with the best most elite militaries. The answer to 2 is also fairly straightforward, by investing people. this leads to the conclusion that what the thrills actual purpose is, it’s to invest an army or the best warriors on roshar as they die and send them to Odium’s undead army. while this is still pretty crackpot, autonomies actions combined with the assumption that odium is not a total idiot and generally has a reason for the things he does/makes lead me to think that it may actually be quite plausible even likely.

So, recently I got a friend of mine into mistborn and he is amping up to run a game in era one. Personally while I love the capabilities of mistborn and full feruchemists I think the limitations of era 2 can create really fun characters. So I invite anyone who is willing to share their concepts to do so here I'd be delighted to hear. With your permission the base concepts may show up when I run an era 2 game of my own. In the interest of fairness I will share my first idea. A twinborn steel allomancer, and gold feruchemist. Initially grew up in a Terris enclave unaware of his noble blood. After getting into trouble with the law as a youth and subsequently getting kicked out of the village they ended up joining the constabulary years later and settling into a semi normal and happy life. As an open coinshot they hide their blood maker abilities often allowing someone to seemingly fatally shoot them. Only to fire up on them at close range with their allomancy or a gun. Look forward to hearing what great ideas people come up with and thank you in advance for sharing. P.S. I do hope I picked the right channel for this.

My main theory that changes how we count Shallan's Ideals is that Shallan said an Ideal as she killed Testament. It would explain which swords she's using in WoR and how they are working. 1st Ideal— Same for all Orders. She said this early in her childhood. 2nd Ideal— She said this first to Testament. It was probably simple and childlike, given her age, maybe “I love you” or “you are my (only) true friend” being all alone in the Davar House. My theory: Lightweavers earn their Blade at 2nd Ideal, not 3rd. We've seen Windrunners and Edgedancers earn blade at 3rd Ideal (WoR for Kaladin, Edgedancer for Lift). Some don't even bond a spren until later Ideals (like Skybreakers in OB). Bottom line, Orders progress at different rates and makes sense from a Cultivation-based viewpoint (she would like variety in progression). 2nd Ideal— "I killed my father" is said to Pattern. This means that he's now a blade by the end of TWoK but can’t manifest yet because he’s weak in thinking and complex ideas. He can't even manifest physically until Shallan draws his pattern in the beginning of WoR. This means that Tyn is killed by Testament. In the moment before killing Tyn, Shallan notes: Notice: "But for her, it didn't have to be ten". I think "her" refers to Testament, not Shallan. Testament doesn't need to be summoned in 10 heartbeats because she is still partially bonded to Shallan. We also know deadeyes can be summoned in less, such as with Maya and Adolin (I think they got down to 7 beats). Right at this point Shallan begins to create Veil to hide the past about Testament (confirmed in RoW). The moment of her using Testament after all these years is what pushes her to make Veil, since that action of using Testament is what starts to bring the memories back. 3rd Ideal— My theory: "I hate you" is said to Testament. Yep, Shallan broke their bond as she swore the 3rd Ideal. Testament feels shame for letting Shallan kill her mother and accepts these words as truth, that she knows Shallan truly hates herself and Testament. It would be a great twist, since we wouldn't think that you can swear an Ideal while killing your spren. But Testament is the only one who needs to accept the Truths, and she does if moved to shame. 3rd Ideal— "I killed my mother" is said to Pattern. This was said after the Oathgate transfer, so Pattern had to have been a sword at that point already. This fits with the idea that Cryptics can be a blade by the 2nd Ideal. There is not nearly enough Investiture in Testament for her to do that, being a deadeyes; she can sometimes help soulcast and be a Blade, but that’s it. She moves slower than Pattern does in the Cognitive Realm, so Shallan running to the Oathgate and activating it at end of WoR might've happened too fast for Testament to keep up with her. We also know deadeyes move slowly and keep their distance from their Shardbearers (Maya walking a ways behind the group in OB). Shallan has no need to summon her afterwards, now that Pattern manifested as a Blade already in the chasms and again for the Oathgate, AND Shallan acknowledging how Pattern is different than other Blades, so she finds no need to summon Testament again. The transfer occurs and Testament is left on the platform in the Cognitive Realm, the mysterious island in the east where she was found by the shopkeeper (RoW) and held with her after that. 4th Ideal— "I'm terrified" is said to Testament in TWoK. These truths to her are still pretty simplistic because Testament is from a childhood bond. This grants some soulcasting for Shallan but it's still very weak. By the end of WoR, there's a that WoB says Shallan is on 4th Ideal. He's referring to this one, not any Ideals with Pattern. 4th Ideal-"I killed [my spren]" was said to herself in Kalak's study. Pattern has not yet accepted this (or maybe did offscreen but that seems weak), because he didn’t hear the truth. Remember, she forbid Pattern from following her to Kalak's house. 5th Ideal— This will be a one-and-done truth, a bridge between her bonds with the two spren. It will heal Testament and propel her to 5th ideal for both bonds. Testament’s Ideals revolve around shallan as a child while Pattern’s exposes her childhood, so 5th Ideal is a combination that satisfies both of her spren, and they both accept it. This makes it plausible for Shallan to sweat a single Ideal in the next book. Thoughts?

So, finished the lost metal awhile ago and one thing has been rattling around in my brain to no end. Kelsier has seemingly lost all his powers and even with hemallurgy can't seem to do anything other than use steel sight. I am sure I am not the only one who wonders how he got to and helped the southern scadrians. Not to mention how he has managed to keep this so secret from his new crew. Most of all, I wonder why this is the case for him and not other fused as he seems unable to use unkeyed metal minds as well? The heralds have their shardblades and use external energy (stormlight). In addition returned utilize breath which could arguably be seen as an external investiture. Which to me would imply that cognitive shadows cannot use investiture innately. However, the fact that kelsier cannot to the best of my knowledge use unkeyed metal minds seems to imply there is something more going on. Would love to discuss with anyone, and thanks for chatting in advance.

So, spoilers for the readings Brandon has done from SA5 (and all Cosmere) ahead. But my crack theory at the moment is : what if Kaladin becomes Odium’s Champion?? Thoughts? Sorry it’s a bit rambly, but it’s a new idea I had and I’m curious about what you all think.

So everyone saw it, looks fantastic I think it's hard to argue with that given how viral it got When I saw it in the context of the show though, I thought it didn't make any sense whatsoever. Her head is fully on the investigation, she doesn't particularly care for the guy or the dance, and she has no reason to be attracting attentions, she doesn't give any indication that she needs to "lash out" to unload tension or something like that. I was expecting something like "She neeeds to create a distraction, since she does't care what people think she does a weird dance". Put the way it was, seemed to be like a "insert tik tok dance here" moment. I liked the show overall, this was probably the bit the bothered me the most out of the whole thing, which is a shame cause her performance is fantastic. Was I the only one bothered by this?

SPOILERS for The Way of Kings. Greetings! I'm pretty new to the Cosmere, and having read The Way of Kings, I've found myself in a predicament. I read the acclaimed book about a year back and despite it's length, thoroughly enjoyed the title. However, after a year of life, college, and engagements, I've found myself in need of a recap. Specifically, a recap on the non-plot related events. Spoilers for Way of Kings follow: Essentially, I completely remember the major plots of each character's perspective. Dalinar sticking it to the king, Kaladin making friends, Shallan making friends, all the good stuff. The recaps that I've found online have also enforced this, catching the broad endings leading up to Words of Radiance (of which I read the first ten or so chapters before my hiatus). However, I noticed some events that I considered to be very important were missing (at least things I assume will be important in later books). Things like Wit acting all creepy and possessed, the face in the sky that Dalinar saw during his vision, the foreshadowing the Shallan may have a Shardblade (which I might be WAY off), those sort of events. The ones that I obviously remember and am excited to see how they will pan out in the future, but also make me scared that I forgot other foreshadowing and small scenes that will play a bigger part in following titles due to their irrelevance to the plot of the first book. Only as of now, after thinking about what I've missed over the last two days do I remember the re-occuring Parshendi wielding Plate and Blade. So, my request is a list of things to re-read or a recap of events witihin Way of Kings that could be easily missed or forgotten but still will have plot relavane/foreshadow future books. Hey all, I have a theory about Kaladin which is in part derived from the information we know in secret project 4, and mistborn era 2 which pertains to his role in Stormlight 5. Spoilers be ahead I know Brandon doesn't like allegory but the idea is that the story of Fleet is an allegory for Kaladin's battle with depression. To summarize, Fleet is racing against the storm. He starts in Alethcar, races to the mountains staying only slightly ahead of the storm and then has a period of relative ease in the race across Azir. Then he hits the mountains of Shinovar but he's spent and tired. He's always staying just a step ahead of the storm at this point as he feels it wearing down on him. But he finally makes it over the mountains and hits the planes of Shinovar with the storm, now a trickle behind him. But it does take him in the end, he's beaten by the race and the storm and he does die. But as Wit says at the end, "So in that land of dirt and soil, our hero stopped the storm itself, and while the rain came down like tears, our Fleet refused to end this race. His body dead but not his will, within those winds his soul did rise. It blew upon the day's last song to win the race and claim the dawn. Past the sea and past the waves, our Fleet no longer lost his breath. Forever strong, forever fast, forever free to race the wind." This story is told by Wit but Wit tells it as if it's Kaladin telling the story and Wit tells Kaladin that it IS his story. "I know most stories, only the names change" Drawing the parallel, we know that Kaladin has always struggled with some degree of depression. He was born in Alethcar, but eventually made his way to as a slave to the Shattered Planes where he nearly took his own life at the chasm. I think that was his first mountain. Then through the next couple of books, he has nothing quite so grim, though he's definitely still fighting depression throughout. I think was represents the mountains of Shinovar would be his story throughout RoW. Beaten, broken, spent, and tired of everything. He has his depression eating at him from all sides but his will alone is what keeps him going. We know that Stormlight 5 will take place in parts of Shinovar. I believe that Kaladin will die in Stormlight 5. But from Secret Project 4, we know that Sigzil when he first see's Wit, he think's it's Kaladin. So that means that Kaladin is in a different form and it's dead (completely). I think that even though Kaladin will die, I think he'll either become a herald, or he'll become a cognitive shadow, but I don't think that Kaladin will pass beyond the cognitive realm.

I have a theory that pertains to things from The Lost Metal, Secret Project 4, and Stormlight 5. Where do I post this theory/prediction?
