  1. Heyo All. Looking for thoughts and potentially clarification. When we visit Ishars camp, it is discovered that through unknown means he is somehow forcing (convincing?) spren to manifest physical flesh bodies instead of as godmetal. We are told / learn (cant remember the passage exactly) that the spren dies within a couple of minutes. The stormfather is understandable upset about this and doesnt really give a lot of information. And then all the other Ishar stuff happens so it isn't really touched on again. I have so many questions. -How is he pulling them in? Is he creating a perpendicularity like Dalinar (unlikely) to force them through? Something with hemalurgy? -Is this one of the mechanisms that was broken due to unmade / trapping of Mishram or was this never possible? if it is a broken mechanism, is the broken aspect that this can be done at all or that it kills them right now? Is there a way to bring spren into physical realm with bodies without killing them? maybe not as flesh bodies, but something similar to Stormfather who is only in PR? -'the spren dies' what kind of death is this? TSM Spoilers: I realize there may not be any answers for these questions, but i hadn't seen this discussed and it feels like it could potentially be really huge. What are your alls thoughts? Is this important or just showing how crazy Ishar is that he would try this?
  2. Hello again my lovely fellow theorists, **FULL COSMERE SPOILERS AHEAD** Today I would like to talk about our favorite sword, Nightblood. My friend and I talk about the cosmere pretty much every day at work, and at least 80% of the conversations revolve around Nightblood (surprise surprise). There are simultaneously a lot of details regarding his nature / creation, and also none at all. We have talked through the details a million different ways, and cant seem to make it make sense. OK here goes. What we know: Vasher tells us that Nightblood was created with 1000 breaths and the 'normal' Nalthian awakening process. He was a regular steel sword that was not a dawnshard, metalmind, or hemalurgic spike. When he was created, he immediately turned completely black and started leaking black smoke downwards. In recent years, Brandon has confirmed that Endowment was involved in the creation of Nightblood, beyond the 'normal' use of her investiture to awaken things. To what extent we have no idea, but she had something to do with the process. Regarding the black smoke. Brandon has told us that Nightblood leaks black smoke because the physical sword is oversaturated with investiture, so it leaks out. This leak is akin to the leaking of Stormlight from radiants / shardblades, or the leaking of dor from Elantrians. This should not be the case with 1000 normal breaths. In warbreaker, we see vivenna put 3500(?) breaths into a scarf and it does not leak at all. So, how is Nightblood different? Our current theory is that divine breath was involved somehow. That Endowment gave Nightblood a divine breath in addition to the 1000 Shasharra gave, bringing the total to about 3000 breaths (1 divine is 5th heightening). That number still seems low. Another less likely theory is that Shasharra used 1000 divine breaths to make him, which would be about 2 million breaths. That would make more sense for Nightbloods nature. However, I think Vasher would definitely have been able to tell the difference between several thousand and several million breaths. One other fun tidbit: Ruin's investiture is in Nightblood, and combining that with the wob that states Nightblood has been to more than two planets (nalthis, roshar), we can be fairly confident Nightblood has been to Scadrial. Not necessarily relevant to his creation but an interesting note. Thoughts?
  3. Hello Fellow Theorists, **SPOILERS FOR EVERYTHING STORMLIGHT INCLUDING PROLOGUE** I have a theory about who Odiums champion will be in SA5 - Gavilar. Now, hear me out. We see in the prologue that Gavilar is interacting with the 'stormfather'. My friend and I are both in agreement that is NOT the stormfather, simply based on the fact that the character in the prologue is nothing like the character bonded to Dalinar. We can be very confident Dals is the true stormfather given that he opens Honors perpendicularity. So, who is the fake stormfather? We believe it is Odium, or a servant of Odium, 'helping' Gavilar find the words to become a Herald. However, Szeth had other plans and ends Gavilars quest to be a Herald prematurely. I believe it is Odium due to when Gavilar says 'I NEED this' and 'stormfather' says 'Those are almost the words.' which implies to me that the correct words were 'I WANT this', playing into the weird permissions restrictions of shards as well as Odium viewing himself as Passion. My thought is this, assuming that was Odium (by that I mean him or his forces) then Gavilar would have had a decently strong Connection to Odium. We have seen that when a shard is Connected to someone, they can interject themselves at the time of death before the spirit fully moves to the Beyond. Im proposing that due to this Connection, Odium caught Gavilar before he was dead dead and convinced / tricked him into becoming a fused. Further evidence of this can be seen when Todium ascends, he mentions that he can see the contingencies that Rodium had put into place and knows how he is going to use them. I think Rodium was keeping fused Gavilar in his back pocket in the event that he did have to do the contest of champions, since that was not his first choice. I dont have much actual evidence for this, but I think that scene would be SO COOL. We know Dalinar has chosen himself....he shows up to the fighting ground, and his 'dead' brother is there to fight him for the fate of Roshar. That would play into the character arcs of Navani, Dalinar, and Jasnah. Each of these characters had many things left unsaid to Gavilar, and this would be the perfect opportunity to further explore those relationships. Especially since Navani spent so much time in Rhythm figuring out how to kill fused for good. Let me know what you all think!
  4. Hello all, **SPOILERS FOR ALL THINGS COSMERE** It is probably not news to most of you that the true nature and history of Ado is unknown. My friend and I have been having a continuous argument about this and I was hoping to get some new perspectives / insights. The argument primarily revolves around the central question: is Ado REALLY God God? When I say 'God God' I mean the end all be all, the creator of everything, the root of the entire universe. There is nothing 'bigger', there is nothing more powerful, there was nothing else before. This is the traditional Christian interpretation of God. Hereafter I will be referring to this concept as capitol G God as opposed to the shards as lower g god. This whole thing is very confusing as the only information contradicts itself. For example, we have people on Roshar and Taldain that tell us that Adonalsium created all things. Then we have forums / wobs that state that Adonalsium created the cosmere, with the cosmere being only ONE galaxy in a presumably infinite universe. From the very limited information we actually get in the text, this is how Ado is referenced. However, we all know that narrators in cosmere books can be unreliable. Since it is written as an in world text, people in the books can state something as fact without it actually being factual. We also have 'testimony' from an aetherbound that they are independent of Ado, and argue that together (all 12 aethers) they are equal in power to Ado. If this is the case, then obviously Ado is not God. Still incredibly powerful, but not 'the' creator. Again, this narrator could be flat out wrong. For me, it feels cosmere breaking for Ado to have an equal. Ado is the beginning, middle and end of this story and it feels cheap / diminishing that there would be other forces that surpass or are equal to Ado. The shards carry such weight / authority because it has been implied that they are God split into 16 pieces. That is infinitely more cool, interesting, and terrifying than being pieces of one of many gods (ado's throughout the universe). The shards are still extremely powerful either way, but the gravity of the shattering feels completely undermined if Ado is only the god of this singular galaxy. In addition, outside of the cosmere, I don't see Brandon incorporating beings above Ado given that he won't be done with the current story until after 2060. Ado not being God feels like the scene in men in black where they find out their universe is only a locker in a huge alien hub, but in a bad way (i like the scene in the movie). Or for another parallel, its like Dragon Ball Z where every arc is about getting more power that wasn't known about before. It works for that story, but it diminishes the work / pain that went into the earlier arcs. The only theory I can come up with that makes this all work together is that Ado is God. He created the entire universe, not just the cosmere. After creating everything, he seperated himself into his distinct parts. These parts were Ado (personality / Intent / spiritual), Dawnshards (Command / Action / cognitive), and Aethers (body, Investiture, physical). This would make Ado both God and not God. The aethers would be correct in saying they are equal to Adonalsium as we understand him (just the shards / intents) without being correct that they are on the level as God (Ado + Dawnshards + Aethers) or predate him. Let me know your alls thoughts / any sources you have for this that may help shed some light. I know the true answer is unknown, but want to gauge the communities feelings on this to see if I am an outlier.
  5. Hello fellow theorists. **SPOILERS FOR EVERYTHING COSMERE** I've been thinking about the atium alloy retcon in mistborn, and some things just aren't adding up. For those who aren't aware - in the original mistborn books, atium is presented as the god metal, not an alloy. However, Brandon has retconed this to say that the atium we see in mistborn is actually atium-electrum alloy. This was done because ALL god metals should be burnable by ANYONE the way that lerasium is, with two effects possible. As it stands currently, pure atium will hemalurgically steal any invested art and will allomantically grant more expansive future visions (similar to atium from mb era 1), with the feruchemical effect unknown. He is keeping the mistborn books the way they are as he believes this retcon can be explained as the scadrians lack of technology / information to discover it was actually an alloy. My big issue with this, however, is the Lord Ruler. We know that when he ascended, he was granted an incredible amount of knowledge on the metals and their effects. After all, this is how he knew how to make kandra, inquisitors, and koloss. So, why do we only see the alloy version in mb era 1? It doesn't make sense to me that the LR would completely ignore the pure form of a god metal given that it is burnable by anyone and must have an effect comparable to the strength of lerasium. We know that the pure form was known at this time, and was able to be created since we see Kelsier use a different alloy of atium than the typical atium-electrum (malatium). This also creates issues as Kelsier would have known how powerful the pure form is - why would he make a new alloy instead? The ONLY way I could see the LR ignoring pure atium is if burning it makes someone into a full feruchemist since he was actively trying to get rid of feruchemy. However this doesn't work either as we are told that it grants expansive visions of the future (coppermind). I have further issues with this whole all god metals are burnable by anyone situation. This seems to present problems for other stories in the cosmere. Primarily on Roshar. Given that Rodium had been around many thousands of years and we are told by brando that he is very aware of the situation on Scadrial (harmony ascension), i feel like Rodium should absolutely be aware of the metallic arts and should certainly be aware of the effects of his own god metal. So, why the hell hasn't he used this in his fight for Roshar. His intent specifically seems to favor using every advantage that he has. There is no reason I can think of that Rodium wouldn't have his Fused burn his godmetal, make metalminds or try it hemalurgically. The last 2 are definitely a stretch as we dont know if god metal metalminds are accessible by anyone, and he probably wouldnt want to introduce hemalurgy. Are we saying that Cultivationium (not sure the name here), Raysium and Tanavastium all have useless effects? That would be 6 distinct effects. In addition, why hasn't any other group figured this out yet? There have been people moving between worlds for many many years. We know that Shasharra, for example, traveled to Roshar and interacted with Shardblades. Why has literally no pure god metal been burned besides lerasium? I know that some of this could be 'Brandon just hasn't written it yet' but this feels like a really really important thing that is being overlooked. Hoid, for example, was clearly aware of the effects of burning lerasium. Why hasn't he burned other god metals? Someone make it make sense. I just remembered, we have Banavadium in mistborn era 2, where there is already a culture of burning metals. We see spikes of Banavadium, but no metalminds or burning it. Why not? That seems like a no brainer for an organization like the set who was already doing terrible experiments on people. I would like to specify that Rodium is Rayse Odium as opposed to Taravangian Odium
  6. So, if you haven't read the new KoWT interlude that was spoiled at Dragonsteel, here it is: https://wob.coppermind.net/events/522-dragonsteel-2023/#e16257 And STORMS that chapter is spicy. So, the first part entails the journey of a few minor Worldhoppers, and apart from them being taunted by Hoid and learning that another old lady is a knight radiant, nothing much Cosmere-Related happens. But then we've got Cusicesh, who appears out of the water at random, speaks to the people of Kasitor, telling them it's time to leave the planet, and opens a giant storming portal for everyone to run into. Yeah, that's right. Remember that little tidbit in Tress about the Iriali disappearing off the face of Lumar? Yeah, that's what just happened here. In fact, I'd wager that a similar thing happened on Lumar, as well as every other planet with myths about the disappearance of the Iriali. So a few questions remain: What's going on with the Iriali? How did this happen on all the other planets? Where does everyone go? AND WHAT THE SCUD IS GOING ON WITH SCUDDLING CUSICESH? Discuss.
  7. Spoilers for Dark One: Forgotten ahead! If you have not listened to Brandon Sanderson’s latest audiobook collab with Dan Wells, I highly recommend you listen to it. It’s a great 6 hour journey that I’m sure you’ll love. with that out of the way, let’s begin. So Dark One: Forgotten takes place a bit before the original, with a story exploring Malmahan’s misdeeds. Additionally, it gives context to the brief mention of a podcast being used as evidence for Malhaman’s murders. However, this doesn’t seem to be the same murder case. In Forgotten, there are 42 strictly LA-based murders done by Malmahan, with Malmahan himself saying that there were many, many more. In the comic, however, there are 15 strictly New York-based murders, with Malmahan claiming that he committed 13 additional murders. To go further, Forgotten is set in 2022, whereas Dark One seems to be set in 2020. Given that Forgotten is meant to act as a prequel, that doesn’t add up. So either Forgotten is non-canon, which seems unlikely, it is an intentional discontinuity in-world, which I also doubt, or Dark One’s canon will be rewritten with the writing of the Dark One novel. Personally I’m betting on the last one, but I have know confirmation. Has Brandon Sanderson said anything about this?
