  1. I just finished reading the manuscript for Aether of Night, and it lead me to wonder about the remaining shards in the Cosmere and in what future books will there likely be new shards found. Here is the list I have compiled at the moment Devotion (Aona) Dominion (Skai) Preservation (Leras) [Later Harmony] Ruin (Ati) [Later Harmony] Odium (Rayse) Cultivation (unknown but Hoid calls her Slammer) Honor (Tanavast) Endowment (Edgli) Autonomy (Bavadin) Ambition (Unknown) Survival Shard Unknown Unknown Unknown Unknown Unknown For the remaining shards, we know that some of the books that Brandon is planning to write (excluding Silence Divine which is set to take place on Ashyn, which does not have any shards) are Dark One, Dragonsteel, Skyward, and Aether of Night. Am I missing anything? If so, can you help out? Thanks.
  2. My friend who finished reading the Stormlight Archives before me told me about this when she finished WoR and I was really close to finishing WoK. Now I am done with both, and I love her idea. It makes perfect since. In Oathbringer, there will almost definitely be an awkward love triangle between Adolin, Shallan, and Kaladin. When Kaladin and Shallan were in the chasms together for three days, they goy to know each other. And Shallan and Adolin, well, let's just say it was love at first sight. Sure, Kaladin are friends by the end of the book, but that would make it even more awkward. That is for the love triangle part. We were thinking, who would Shallan go for? Then I thought, first, maybe Renarin! My second thought was that it didn't make any scence (I can't spell) but it would make a great plot twist. My friend said that her friend (one I am not on speaking terms with) said that maybe Shaladin and they will adopt Lift! Again, no scence but awesome. But if Renarin joined the Love Triangle, would that make it a love SQUARE?
  3. Now I Know What You're All Thinking Yet another new face to the 17th Shard, trying to make his way in the world by shoving foolhardy ideas out into it. And you would be right, for there is no better way to start than to have an idea shut down. How else would the next one come to fruition, after all? So bear with me, please, as I am naive and somewhat already addicted to this site (*pointedly avoids looking at the time*) So no matter what I'm told, no matter what Sanderson says, I am convinced that there is some connection between The Reckoners world/universe and that of the Cosmere. Don't worry, I am not stating that I believe it is WITHIN the Cosmere, but that there is some sort of connection. I mean, this is Sanderson we're talking about, and he is nothing if not one surprise after another. So First & Foremost, Some Foundations Okay, allow me to echo back to the conclusion to Calamity, in which we actually meet the title himself. Not Larcener the High Epic, but Calamity the God of sorts (we'll get to that). Trace back a number of steps to the dialogue between Calamity and David Charleston, our protagonist. Calamity hinted that there were many others like him, but did not elaborate on that whatsoever - did he mean each were sent to a different version of reality, or each were sent to a different world with sentient lifeforms? This does not initially seem something Calamity should be so afraid of revealing, until he nearly lets slip a very important detail. That is, each of these Calamity-figures were all sent by someone. It seems like he was referring to just one person at the time, before he cut himself off, so not much more was given here. We must also trace back to the very idea of other realities, and how heavily they weighed on the world and story. Other realities do exist. If infinite, it is not unlikely that the Cosmere is nestled in there. But I digress. Let's move on. Idea #1 - Reckoner-Earth Is In The Cosmere I should probably mention here and now that I don't believe this one is the truth of it. Maybe a bit of me hopes, but I don't really believe it. That would be too simple, too. . . not Sanderson. Look at the investiture of the confirmed Cosmere worlds - they are inherent to the world itself, to its peoples to its Gods for Gods' sake (don't excuse the pun, I'm proud of that one). The powers bestowed upon Epics are exactly that; bestowed. Given with a singular purpose by a singular figure (with a mysterious, and unfinished background). This figure, Calamity, was not a God of any sort. He simply does not fit in with the image of the Shards. Yes, we could think on the "others like him" as Shards, assuming he himself was one, but he also said they were each given a purpose, so to speak. Think again on Odium in the Cosmere - I doubt his purpose, if given by whoever (Adonalisium?) would be to splinter the other Shards. There is plenty of foundation to use this as a plausible theory, but I don't full accredit it. Let me know your thoughts! Ideas #2 - Reckoner-Earth Is In The Cosmere 2.0 Now, I had never even considered this before reading an entry on tor.com on part with the announcement of the Apocalypse Guard (Entry by Chris Lough - http://www.tor.com/2016/03/01/brandon-sanderson-announces-new-apocalypse-guard-book-trilogy/ ). Naturally I don't want to take full credit for this kind of idea, but let's step back a little and try see its potential. Essentially more or less all of the points from Idea #1 will be applied here, but instead of being within a Cosmere it is within a universe of its own - for sake of argument, we'll put it Cosmere 2.0. Again, who sent Calamity? WHAT IS Calamity? Will the Apocalypse Guild, with it being "parallel to Earth" be within this second Cosmere? All are questions we can't answer yet. But let's face it - we haven't seen the end of Calamity. His end was far too much of a loose end, and if we know anything, it's that Prof isn't a big fan of those. Megan is convinced Calamity will return. Mysteries upon mysteries left up in the remains of that glass ISS. We haven't seen the end of Calamity or, at least, the world in which the Reckoners take place regardless of whether or not there is a Cosmere 2.0. Ideas #3 - There Is A Cosmere 1.0, 2.0 & Maybe 3.0? Now, assume that there is a Cosmere (which there, uhm, is) but also a Cosmere 2.0, in which the Reckoners are, potentially the Apocalypse Guard and whatever else comes along (I am still uncertain as to whether or not is other non-Cosmere works would work here). But there is never a simple quid pro quo with Sanderson. So I will leave the idea of a third universe / Cosmere 3.0. A sort of leeway, almost like the three planes in Cosmere 1.0 (this is getting confusing). I mean, at this point this kind of thing can't be ruled out - after all, all Sanderson told us was that the likes of the Reckoners are not in the Cosmere as we know it (Mistborn, Stormlight and so on). He never speculated on a second Cosmere, let alone a third. What would be the purpose to a third, you ask? Well, look at the Cosmere. It has this ultimate storyline going on behind the scenes with Adonalisium, the Shards and Hoid. If there was a Cosmere 2.0, presumably it, too, would have its own storyline. Of course, if there were these two, there would have to be a point to it. A point to these two HUGE stories. So how else to connect them, if not through a third party? A Cosmere 3.0, if you will ealise there isn't a tremendous amount of supporting evidence here, but alas, until more books come out I cannot say. After all, one can't read Elantris and assume to know all there is about the Cosmere. That wouldn't make much sense. So let me know below your thoughts, where you think everything lies within Sanderson's head. I adore the idea that, on some level, ALL of his work is connected, even if it never touches. So give me your thoughts, whether to add onto mine or crush them down, whatever helps me keep up with my conspiracies That's all for now folks, until the next annoyance
  4. SO my question is, Why does Denth's hair change colour? Is it the Royal locks?
  5. Let it be known that I'm so excited about the essays that I haven't even read Edgedancer yet (even though Stormlight is my favourite series). We got some lovely information from Khriss that clarifies so many old questions. I have a few main theories that I want to bring up, that I know some people have already tossed a few of these around, but well, I'm just so excited I needed to make my own thread. Sorry, not sorry. Selish Observations Scadrian Observations (Secret History spoilers as well as Arcanum Unbounded) Taldain Observations Threnodite Observations Drominad Observations I have to go for now, I'll continue later tonight with the Rosharan system, Silverlight, and some theories I've got about all this new info. Thanks for listening to my ramblings. Time to do a complete cosmere reread and hunt for clues.
  6. So who noticed that the note at the end was signed "Bastille Smedry?" There've been hints before but it sounds like Bastille and Alcatraz get hitched. Assuming Alcatraz gets his Talent back at some point, can you imagine Bastille with the Breaking Talent? The mind shudders! (Incidentally, while I'm glad that they end up together, it prods at one of my pet peeves in writing. Like, the first person that the main character meets that's not related to his background ends up being his or her romantic interest. It happens a lot in movies/books and I'd like to see the main character get a bit more exposure to the world and its people first, you know?)
  7. I recently completed a re-read through Mistborn:Secret history. During the re-read, I noticed a vague reference to a potential 11th shard. Initially, due to my copy being an eBook, I assumed was a typo in the formatting of the book. Obviously if you haven't read the book by now this could give away something minor in the terms of plot. It has occured to me since that this is a reference to another possible shard. The theory behind this is that the names of shards is always capitalized wherever they appear in cosmere novels.
  8. I don't want to offend anyone or anything but i have been reading the way of the king again and Jasnah struck me as very independent and strong will .. as evident by her atheism , probably because she knew almighty was dead through her spren and her visit to spren world...but her being gay will also explain why she hasnt married ! Roshar is a very sexist world as far as we know , with strong emphasis on masculine and faminine art , food etc.. I I don't think any of their culture will accept homosexuality ..They will probably claim them voidbringer and struck them in high strom for stromfather to judge which is essentially a death sentence unless you have a spren proecting you lol....However I strongly belive with her Radiant ability which allow her to travel between worlds in cosmera Jasnah is familiar with other cultures from distance world and therefore accepting her own sexual orientation although she might never openly admit in her own home world.
  9. Alright guys, I've been absent from the shard for a long time, so maybe this has been pointed out before and I missed it...but... I'm rereading mistborn (again...of course) and I noticed something I didn't before (again). When Elend goes to the koloss camp and randomly decides to pick a fight with one...he gets a little inspiration from out of nowhere "Only one way to win a knife fight against a guy with a sword... The thought, oddly, hadn't come from one of his trainers, or from Vin. He wasn't sure where it came from, but he trusted it. Close in tight, as fast as possible, and kill quickly." It never jumped out at me before, and maybe this comes up in secret history and I forgot, but could this be Kel or Leras giving a little timely advice to Elend in a time of need? My first thought was Leras, after all, even his divine avatar carries around a shank. But unless I'm mistaken, that's not how preservation works. Then I remembered that Kel gets in a few words from beyond the grave, but I don't remember this happening in secret history...also...if my memory of the time line is right, Kel was all bound up at the well during these events. So...did I make a good find...or am I just making stuff up? Thoughts?
  10. One of my friends is running a Mistborn Adventure Game campaign soon, and wanted to have it set after the world was saved, but wanted it remade differently that Sazed had. We couldn't see Sazed Chiang the way he made the world, so instead we came up with a new idea, and wanted some feedback. The idea was a person. Marsh. Picture this: It is the final battle. With all his friends dead or dying around him, Sazed realises what the prophecies mean. He realises that the knowledge in his copperminds can save them. But he fears it. His faith is still shaken, and unlike the Sazed we know and love, he cannot trust himself to take up the power. Anguished, he turns to a spiked figure behind him. Marsh. He tells him that he thinks his copperminds can save the world, but he can't take up the power. He can't bring himself to. And Marsh, having lived in this world of ash, his mind controlled by Ruin and only just free, knows that he cannot let the world just die as he has been released to see it. Believing Sazed that the copperminds have vital information, he sees only one option. Taking from his belt a brass spike he had been forced to craft by Ruin, his practiced hands already finding the bind point, he drives it through Sazed's body. Sazed gasps, unable to process this final betrayal, and collapses. Marsh, holding back sobs at the sight of his friend's body mutilated by his own hand, plunges the spike into himself. Almost immediately, he feels power flowing into him, and he turns to Sazed's body. Steelpushing away attackers with barely a thought as they run towards the area, he carefully removes the copperminds from Sazed's arms. He holds them, and draws all their information into himself in a flash of knowledge, and plunges his arms into the black and white mists leaking from the bodies of Vin and Ati. With the knowledge contained in Sazed's copperminds, he fixes the world. He has become a god. But not Harmony, as Sazed would have. He is Change. When something ends but still remains, what is it but changing form? Marsh fixes the world, but it is not left fertile and seemingly blessed as Sazed had made it. It was very much like the land of the final empire, with only a few differences from the Larsta religion. The plants and sky are turned back to their correct colour, and he remakes the flowers in honour of Mare, the woman he loved and lost to Kelsier. He fixes the bodies of the people and make the Terrismen whole again, as Sazed would have wanted. But he leaves much as it was, for he knows far, far too well what having a God interfering with mankind can do. In this new world, Noblemen and Skaa cling to their previous identities, but in very different ways. The Nobles are mistrusted, and allomancy is hated, as it was a noble tool of oppression. The Skaa rise to power, controlling the new settlements and governments, having a strict rule following the example of Urteau. Life is difficult, but people seem free. Like the love that shaped their God, the world that shapes these people is above all one thing. Harsh. Thanks for reading if you got this far, we hope you liked the idea and as we come up with more to flesh out the world, we will put it up here. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
  11. So after just finishing Secret History one thing really stuck out to me. While the IRE were talking they mentioned someone drawing upon capital F Fortune. Maybe a lil early to speculate but this for some reason feels like the name of a Shard to me.
  12. So since the book releases in just a few hours, I thought it might be fun to post some of your theories about what is going to be in the book and then come back in a few days and see how everyone's predictions panned out. A few quick reminders, if you're going to mention anything in the already released chapters use spoiler tags, and when you come back to see how (in)accurate you were, definitely use spoiler tags. Here's the first part of my list. Will finish it when I get off work We will have at least 1 viewpoint chapter from someone storing "Identity" Wax, Wayne, or Marasi are going to have a face-to-face conversation with a Kandra, and they'll know it. We'll meet either a Leecher or a Nicroburst, perhaps just in passing. More information on how Time Bubbles interact with motion and/or each other. If we're lucky, maybe even exact numbers on the rates. Edit: additional ideas
  13. So I just finished the book and returned it to my friend. I have no other means to reread it again coz' I don't have it anymore. Anywaaay, did Obliteration die? And if so, how the hell did he die? He became a porcelain right? How? What is his weakness? WHAT? WHY? HOW? I'm totally confused right now.
  14. Just out of curiousity, whose death was most impacting to you out of Sanderson's cosmere characters? Vin, Elend, and Kelsier were all sad, but for me, I would have to say Lightsong. I wasn't too fond of Warbreaker, but Lightsong was amazing. I swear, if someone says they were sad that Sadeas died, I will crack up.
  15. In his blog post here, Brandon is talking about the change he made to a scene at the end of Words of Radiance involved the confrontation between Szeth and Kaladin. In summary, he says that he made it so that the storm killed Szeth, and not Kaladin. Or more importantly, not Kaladin's Shardblade. I'm not sure if this has been discussed here before (I couldn't find it) so I'm just going to open a discussion about this particular quote from the paragraph explaining this. Source *emphasis added* What does this mean? Which Shardblade is he talking about here? Is it that Kaladin's Shardblade being living allows him to decide if the soul is taken, or give it back, or? Or is it Darkness' living Shardblade that is used to resuscitate Szeth after he falls from the sky? Or is it Szeth who is given/gains a living Shardblade of his own, which heals his own soul (this sounds the more likely meaning Brandon was going for)? I'm just curious as to what you guys think are the connotations of such a thing, which Brandon says is an 'important plot point for the series'?
  16. Hey...I'm new to all of this fanpage stuff but have been reading Sanderson for quite some time now. I think I may have found another appearance of Hoid that dosen't seem to be noted in the coppermind...but maybe I'm just jumping to conclusions. Please tell me what you think. Felt is a skaa spy from Urteau, Scadrial. He is described as lithe and short with a hawkish face and a drooping moustache.[1] He is one of the main spies for House Venture. He spies on Kelsier's crew's hideout and reports to Elend that they are a skaa thieving crew.[1] Elend employs him again as a spy to monitor the river entrances to Luthadel during the siege.[2] -additionally...he is referred to a few other times later in the mistborn story as someone who is not present but involved...and is away doing "spy stuff." -Felt is also the name of one of the scouts working for Dalinar Kholin's army when marching toward the center of the shattered plains. While not specifically named...one of those scouts comes into the scholar's tent and gives Shallan the hint she needs in order to locate the "Oathgate." I'm not 100% but I think that "Felt" may be another one of Hoid's Pseudonyms...What do you guys think?
  17. You can get the ebook of Shadows Beneath right now: http://www.17thshard.com/news/brandon-news/shadows-beneath-and-sixth-of-the-dusk-available-r193 So I thought, hey, we probably need a spoiler thread for Sixth of the Dusk. What did you think?
  18. Got me thinking, comparing it(Warbreaker) to mistborn(WOA), Vin and Vivenna, are very similar in an opposite way. Vin: A Skaa, not trusting, saved and thought how to trust by kelsier, became a noblewoman. Vivenna: A princess, very trusting, kidnapped(saved but yeah, she's kidnapped) by Denth, became a beggar. On the other hand, similar and yet opposite plot became to surface, hence, Vin killing, the Lord ruler, and Vivenna's sister(siri), ended up having a romantic relationship with the God King. So that's it, I think that's enough for the mistborn and warbreaker trilogy, same plot at least in an opposite way. Comparing now, warbreaker to words of radiance is nightblood, and Szeth's sword(the last one he acquired). They both talk, and they talk about evil. Okay, so theories, I really don't know about Hoid or Wit, I've read about them being "aware" of the other worlds, but are they really the same? Since Hoid is not really active in mistborn and in Warbreaker I can't say much, but I think that the worlds are just parallel universes. Sorry if this is posted in a wrong section, It's my 4th or something thread. Thanks for reading. Edit: Vin and Vivenna, similar names? Plus God King and Lord ruler, yes? Edit2: I think this should be in the theories section, sorry, if a mod read this, please feel free to move it if necessary, thanks!
  19. In WoR, when Szeth attempted to kill Dalinar, both Dalinar and Kaladin had stabbed Szeth with their spears, but Szeth shrugged them off like they were no big deal, also taking their weapons away from them. This is very similar to the Lord Ruler, in the first Mistborn, being stabbed twice with spears by two soldiers, but hardly even flinched. I find this to be a very nice parallel between two books between the Cosmere.
  20. Hi everyone, New to the site and have a question. I've done some looking around and can't seem to find anything regarding this. It seems like a fairly obvious question that nobody is asking but it's very possible that I've missed the an obvious answer or it's already being discussed somewhere. If so I apologize in advance. We all know that Szeth is given a sword that is potentially Nightblood from WarBreaker. I don't think there's any argument there. However, when Nin brings Szeth back from the dead, he tells him that he he is perfect for the order of Skybreakers. This is confusing to me on a number of levels. As far as we know there are only two ways to become a surgebinder; bond with a spren or be in possession of an honor blade. Szeth has no spren and is now without an honor blade. So, my question is how can he become a Skybreaker? Does he have a spren that he/we are unaware of? Any clarification / theories are much appreciated!
  21. Something I feel everyone is missing is that it doesn't seem to be just brokenness that makes you a Radiant but showing an outstanding virtue through that brokenness like Honesty, Honor, Leadership, and Bravery and loyalty. and so far I think that everyone who is a radiant deserves it, Renarin for his loyalty, Shallan for her Honesty (or her ability to make others honest), Kaladin through his Honor, and Dalinar for his Leadership. Shallan has shown that she can bring out the best in people by telling them how she sees them or how they could be seen, perhaps this has always been a quality of Shallan, as it has been said that shallan had a shardblade and a spren even before she lost her mother. Something that was said that i can't quite recall where was that even with Radiant's spren, you have to show their virtue to attract them, just like any other spren. so maybe instead of finding all of the broken Characters in the books and pointing "Radiant!", and then discussing how broken they are, we should consider what we know of their character to judge it's possibility not exactly how broken we think they are.
  22. So, please forgive me if this has come up before, I didn't see it in my (admittedly brief) review of the topics at hand. I have a theory about what powers a Bondsmith would have, and why they are so rare. As we all know, Surgebindings are created through bonding with spren. What if the power of a Bondsmith includes the ability to simulate that kind of bond? As in, empower other people with Surgebinder like powers? I'm sure most of you see where I'm going with this. Of course, half of this hair-brained theory comes from the fact that I'm just guessing wildly at what "Axial Interconnection" means. I, of course, have NO idea what makes one version "Soft" and another "Strong". My only other theories involve Quantum Mechanics, and I highly doubt that Bondsmiths have powers over gluons and mesons... There are still a few holes in my theory, the largest being that the Stonewards, who also have access to the Surge of Tension couldn't possibly have access to the same powers, as their much (historically) greater numbers would basically mean that nearly everyone on Roshar would have access to Stormlight usage...
  23. How did Kaladin survive the fall into the chasm? At this point in the story he doesn't have access to stormlight, Syl is gone... He hears a scream (possibly hers) but can't get stormlight ... so how does he survive unharmed ... I read that scene twice and still can't figure out what went down ...
  24. The person who revived him claimed to be Nalan, but I'm not convinced Nalan would need a fabriel to revive someone. He's now supposed to be a Skybreaker, but has no Spren, which is where every other order gets their abilities from.... And getting Nightbringer seems more like a curse then a boon. I think Szeth is being used... Again.
  25. The corpse of her mother was wearing blue and gold...the colors of the Alethi king's house...
