This post will contain spoilers for both Skyward and Starsight. Skyward 3 cover and title reveal As announced by Brandon himself, The Book Formerly Known As Nowhere now has a real title, description, release date(s) and no less than two covers, as Brandon's American and British publishers decided to announce them both at once. So without further ado, here comes Cytonic. Alongside it we have the UK release; if you've been following the leaks, you might've seen this one pop up before, but now it's official! As with the previous books in the series, the American cover was created by Charlie Bowater, while the British art is the work of Sam Green. Preorders for both versions are already up on your bookseller website of choice; per Brandon's tweet, the book will release on November 23rd, 2021 in the US, and on November 25th in UK. To round up the Cytonic goodies, we also have the description for the book and it's... not very heavy on the actual plot. Spensa’s life as a Defiant Defense Force pilot has been far from ordinary. She proved herself one of the best starfighters in the human enclave of Detritus and she saved her people from extermination at the hands of the Krell—the enigmatic alien species that has been holding them captive for decades. What’s more, she traveled light-years from home as an undercover spy to infiltrate the Superiority, where she learned of the galaxy beyond her small, desolate planet home. Now, the Superiority—the governing galactic alliance bent on dominating all human life—has started a galaxy-wide war. And Spensa’s seen the weapons they plan to use to end it: the Delvers. Ancient, mysterious alien forces that can wipe out entire planetary systems in an instant. Spensa knows that no matter how many pilots the DDF has, there is no defeating this predator. Except that Spensa is Cytonic. She faced down a Delver and saw something eerily familiar about it. And maybe, if she’s able to figure out what she is, she could be more than just another pilot in this unfolding war. She could save the galaxy. The only way she can discover what she really is, though, is to leave behind all she knows and enter the Nowhere. A place from which few ever return. To have courage means facing fear. And this mission is terrifying. We actually did a predictions podcast for Cytonic (though we didn't know its name then) back in March which might interest you: Skyward novellas Alongside Cytonic, we will also be getting three Skyward novellas! They're co-written by Janci Patterson (who is also collaborating with Brandon on the final Alcatraz book), and they will be released as ebooks and audiobooks simultaneously, with maybe a physical release later down the line. While we have no date for any of them yet, two of those novellas have popped up on Brandon's progress bar on his website already, and they are definitely coming along nicely. Sunreach: the final draft for this one has been completed, meaning it's basically done as far as writing is concerned; of course, there's still much that has to happen before it's ready for release. This one will be written from the perspective of FM, one of the Skyward Flight pilots who survived the first book to later be largely absent from Starsight. ReDawn: As of this writing, the second novella is sitting at 43% of its first draft. We don't know whose point of view this will be following, but ReDawn is the home planet of the comatose alien Alanik, so... Wax & Wayne 4 progress update and Warbreaker leatherbound giveaway Yes, we do have non-Skyward news for you today. First: Wax & Wayne 4, or The Lost Metal, is currently sitting at nice round 30%. Second: to celebrate two hundred thousand subscribers on his YouTube channel, Brandon will be giving away a signed copy of the Warbreaker leatherbound. Today Brandon replied to some Reddit threads about his 2020 plans after he finishes Rhythm of War, and talked about the timeline for The Lost Metal! Hooray details, hooray Brandon being transparent with us. Please note that these aren't surefire things, and this is the "perfect world" sort of scenario. First up: looks like Rhythm of War is taking a week or so longer than planned, with its turn in date now being July 10th (it was originally July 1st). The Stormlight novella, which will part of The Way of Kings leatherbound kickstarter tiers, will be up next. Brandon plans to write it mid-July to mid-August, beta read it late August, and then do revisions in early October. Lastly, the copyedit done mid-October, to get to people a month before Rhythm of War. To me this is a pretty tight timeline, and Brandon does admit things can slide and he'll try to be up-front about it. The novella may not be called Wandersail, as that is the ship's name, but this novella doesn't have to do with Hoid's story in The Way of Kings. Later in the year, he will work on Skyward 3, then with the goal to begin The Lost Metal, the fourth Mistborn Era 2 story, on January 1st, 2021. After that, it's the fourth and final Skyward book, with a target for starting on Stormlight 5 the following January. Also, Brandon wants to fit in a "quick draft" of Songs of the Dead (formerly Death by Pizza), and probably will push back a revision of The Apocalypse Guard a bit later. So, you know, I'd say that after Rhythm of War finishes, fitting in a novella, Skyward 3, Lost Metal, Skyward 4, that's pretty productive for the time in-between Stormlights. That doesn't even include any of the other projects, like Apocalypse Guard, Songs of the Dead, Alcatraz 6, or whatever else that might pop up. Sounds good to me. Last week, we got a cover reveal of the US edition of Starsight. It shows Spensa IN SPAAAACE! Probably due to all the stars or something. We also have a release date of November 26th, 2019, and you can preorder it now. This is later than the previous October release date because of the Starsight revision Brandon did.
