  1. Really more of a Mistborn topic, but it’s going here for obvious reasons. Withe recent revelations there’s been a theory that Thaidakar is a word in Skaa, possibly just Survivor translated. I disagree. I think Thaidakar is a Terris word. Absinthew Idashwy Axindweth Tathingdwen Vwafendel Tenningdar Thaidakar The title fits very neatly with the three syllable Terris words and names. It doesn’t match up nearly as well with words in Skaa, which tend to follow French-like linguistics. Thematically, it makes a certain amount of sense for Kelsier to have a title in all three major languages: Survivor in Skaa and Sovereign in the Southern Tongue, with Thaidakar coming from Terris. It’s similar to him seemingly utilizing all three metallic arts and using a triple diamond symbol. Of course, if it is Terris, WHY Terris? And what does the word mean? Thoughts?
  2. You know how Kaladin in SA hates how the darkeyes are treated and absolutely loathes the lighteyes? Well, I was just thinking that compared to the skaa on Scadrial, the darkeyes have it real good. I would be curious to see what Kaladin thought about the skaa compared to the darkeyes' situation, and I also wonder how a conversation between Kaladin and Kelsier would go, seeing as they both hate seeing oppresion.
  3. Would you describe them as a race? A class? Or something else entirely? I ask this because I was trying to describe basically what the skaa were to a friend who was reading for the first time but couldn't really figure out how to.
  4. So, I am working on an unofficial recipe book containing fan-favourite meals from Mistborn, and other books. To make the best dishes I can, I need to choose those that seem appetizing to most readers, and gather all I can about them. Are they skaa? Noble? Elandel high society? Who described them, as what? And so on. What do *you* want to eat, and what do you remember about it? Descriptions, reactions, anything. Quotes greatly appreciated! Also if possible, I would love your support on Patreon. So far, I have only the baywraps requested.
  5. All I want to know is why Skaa is above Darkeyes on the community reputation ranking. You'd think it'd be opposite since Skaa are (or were) often slaves or beggars while Darkeyes often owned their own houses and were actuall paid workers. Plus even Darkeyed slaves got payed (even if it was just a pittance).
  6. I'm rereading Mistborn: The Final Empire and I came across a passage that I hadn't taken note of before between Kelsier and Vin: K: I've started being more careful since you trailed me last week- at first I assumed you were a Venture Mistborn V: They have some? K: I'm sure they do. Most of the Great Houses do- but you friend Elend isn't one of them. He's not even a Misting. V: How do you know? He could be hiding it. K: He nearly died in a raid a couple of years ago- if there was ever a time to show your powers, it would have been then. -Mistborn: The Final Empire chapter 13 So, Elend almost died in this raid. Do.we know what the raid was? Was it as minor as skaa rushing the keep, or another House? What I want it to be is a skaa raid, that most definitely ended in the skaa's death. Because I think that answers one huge question: Why did Elend start to study about the treatment of Skaa? Imagine this raid. A group of Skaa men and women, let's say 40 or so want to get into keep Venture because of some grudge with Straff. Maybe he was careless at a brothel with skaa girls, and he had the place destroyed with everyone inside, or maybe he's just the most accessible nobleman to them, and they want to take someone down. So they rush Keep Venture, or maybe they sneak in, maybe even with help from the inside (after all, guards for the Keeps are many times also Skaa looking for money) Now, thier goal is Straff, but they don't get him. Maybe Straff escaped, or has a safe room that he can hide in, but Elend was not so lucky. Elend is the only Venture there facing the ire of these skaa, and he's terrified, and his father has left him behind. What if this neat death experience with a group of Skaa instead of spurring him towards hatred of them like his father and the majority of noble society, jolts his curious mind to wonder what happened to make these Skaa hate him, when he had done nothing to harm them. It also illustrates an earlier example of Strafford treatment towards Elend. Anyway, I wanted to share that because I think it's an interesting little hole in Elend's story. What do you think? Am I missing something? Has Brandon already spoken about this? -Benn
  7. Members: skaa (President and Founder) Cheese United Curiosity Kipper (Mascot) Lindel Screwloose Shlee Non-RP version: This guild is for two kinds of Sharders: 1) Those who enjoy role-playing as non-powered or low-powered underdogs who use their ingenuity to outwit/avoid stronger Superpowered opponents, or 2) those who don't like role-playing at all and would rather spend their time writing or discussing theories. If you identify yourself with either kind, feel free to request for membership. RP version: I, the skaa named skaa, self-proclaimed President and OMSF1Founder of the Investiture-Challenged Awareness Society (henceforth referred to as the Society), have decided to extend my invitation to all drabs, darkeyes, pure skaa, and anyone else who've been oppressed by the Invested Aristocracy or otherwise oppose said oppression, to join our2 Society of free, well-informed, well-armed, and spike-free Investiture-Challenged beings and Invested sympathizers. The Society's message is two-fold: The only Investiture you need inside your body is the Spark of Life. Aside from that and any Innate Investiture that you have no control over, all other forms of Shardic power ought to remain outside of you, where it cannot pollute your Cognitive Identity, your "self", the very meaning of who you are. Having no "special" Investiture must not prevent you from living a full, happy life even in a community full of "special beings"3. Our goal, therefore, is to eradicate the notion that decent, hardworking Investiture-challenged beings ought to kowtow to the Invested Oligarchs, or even yearn to be similarly Invested. We do not need to mutilate our bodies with the dirty spikes of Hemalurgists, or mutilate our minds with the foreign moralities of barely-sentient Splinters. Nor do we need to inhale foul Breath or choke on glowing metal nuggets. We, the Investiture-Challenged beings of the Cosmere, shall survive with our selves intact, proud of our minimal Shardic influence, and ready to face the dangerous worlds of our dwarf galaxy with heads4 held high! In order to achieve this goal, the Society shall promote learning, scholarship, and the advancement of technology in all the Shardworlds of the Cosmere. Yes, even Investiture technology, for as long such technology will only be used on non-sentient targets5 and will not unduly Invest an Investiture-challenged being. With all these in mind, if you are interested in joining the Society, please read the two simple rules thereof: Rule 1: Reject Noble Mentality Aside from the general idea that Investiture-challenged persons ought not be oppressed, this rule may be interpreted by individual members as they see fit. What do you hate the most in our Invested So-Called Overlords? What of their excesses do you detest? Whatever your answer, strive to do the opposite. If you hate their ostentation, revise your gaudy signature and use a more modest username. If you hate their reliance on brute strength, stop role-playing as the Fullborn Sliver who is also a Returned and (inexplicably) an Epic. Stop doing what you see in them. Be the Anti-Noble you want to be. Rule 2: Be a Scholar of Investiture Strive to learn everything about the forms of Investiture in your chosen Shardworld/s. Aim to be more knowledgeable than the majority of our Invested oppressors, then spread the knowledge to your fellow Investiture-challenged brethren. Ponder on the Words of the Creator, also the Words of His Assistant, searching for clues as to how best to use Investiture without Investiture using you. If doubts and uncertainties exist, be brave enough to formulate your own theories. Do not rely on Invested scholars who think they know everything about their power simply because they have it, or who think that their limitations can limit us; the Creator has shown that they are often wrong. *** If you are willing to follow the Two Rules of the Society, then I welcome you with open arms. Members shall each receive an Investiture-blocking kit, an aluminum gun to be used only in self-defense, and a lifetime supply of aluminum fragmenting bullets6. -- 1 Only Member So Far 2"my"Yes, it's our Society now! 3 freaky abominations (no offense meant) 4 covered in simple but tasteful aluminum-lined head gear 5 and Nobles; but only for... noble... purposes. 6 Electricity is such a wonderful thing.
