  1. This week we get more focused and actually discuss Emerald City Comic Con Words of Brandon. We discuss sand, the Fused, and one fateful bet Jebus made and Brandon crushed his dreams in dramatic fashion. We also see someone's hatred of France. We do get into analysis of some things from the Orem signing this month, too. I'm Eric (Chaos) who doesn't know how to pronounce Pacific Northwest things despite being from there. We have Ian (WeiryWriter) who is back in the Stormfather's good graces. We have Ben (Overlord Jebus) who says American water is weird. Lastly, we have Matt (Comatose), who is actually French. We also end on an epic Who's That Cosmere Character, and I feel very good about myself. Want to send in one? Email it to [email protected]. Main Topic: 00:03:15 Who's That Cosmere Character: 01:32:15 Oh, and if you're wondering what Jebus's bet was, here it is: https://wob.coppermind.net/events/324/#e9302 Listen to it so you can hear Jebus's soul get crushed.
  2. Today, we have a pretty crazy podcast, where Jebus and I descend into madness. We had planned to discuss what he thought of Emerald City Comic Con, the VR Experience (which he got to try), and then talk about WoBs from there. Brandon, however, had a different plan, and instead posting INSANE things on Reddit that we just had to discuss. We start with discussing the VR Experience, then we talk about, you guessed it, Patji as we descend into madness from Brandon's Reddit post. We hurt our brains, do some sweet theorizing, then we move into some Emerald City Comic Con Words of Brandon. That's fun and all and then we wrapped it up. But then, Brandon continued to post on Reddit right as we ended our recording session, so we then add a good thirty more minutes of more Patji and Shard stuff. Watch us go to the brink of madness and back this time on Shardcast. Today it's just Eric (Chaos) and Ben (Overlord Jebus). We were going to have Ian but the Stormfather refused to allow that this time. We will continue discussing ECCC Words of Brandon and the most recent signing next time. Also upcoming is White Sand vol. 2 and other fun topics as well!
  3. Today on Shardcast, we are talking about various "hacks" and other weirdness in cosmere magics: Savantism, Resonances, and Compounding. Here we will talk about what those are, talk about the weirdness with WoBs about Wax, theories on Resonances, and explain Compounding, because that always seems to go wrong. We also have a new segment: Who's That Cosmere Character! If you have a character along with five clues for them, send it to [email protected]. We will eventually get them on the show! But, you know, maybe make them harder than the ones we used here, because it didn't go super flawlessly for Ben here. We have Eric (Chaos), Ian (WeiryWriter), and Ben (Overlord Jebus) who is in America this time! See you next week for some discussion on the VR experience, Patji, and Emerald City Comic Con. Table of contents: News - Update on the Secret Project (00:1:28), Main Topic (00:04:50), Who's That Cosmere Character (01:00:00)
  4. We're back with more Oathbringer discussion, and this time, we have a spicy topic: Sja-anat and Voidbinding. There's obviously heavy Oathbringer spoilers here (with some minor discussion from Hero of Ages), so be warned. We're here to talk about the Unmade, corrupted spren, Voidbinding, and more--though maybe we end up confusing ourselves more than anything. We record these in advance, so we talk about the "news" of the new Secret Project. Brandon recently said that it is not cosmere, so our speculation is all worthless. But, I thought some Hemalurgy puns (nailed it) were funny, so I kept that in. Today we have Eric (Chaos), Ian (WeiryWriter), David (Windrunner), and Alyx (FeatherWriter). Also starring in today's episode is my inconsistent pronounciation of Sja-anat, so I'm sure none of you will be triggered by that, right? Right?
  5. We're back, and this week we're reading White Sand Volume 1, the graphic novel, in anticipation for Volume 2 which comes out February 20th. We discuss everything that happened, our feelings on the transition to a graphic novel and its quality, analysis of the magic (as you no doubt expect), and what we expect after the three volumes of the graphic novel are finished. Let's talk about spoilers. There will be discussion of the unpublished, White Sand prose version, but we don't talk about big plot points and we stay focused on Volume 1's stuff. But the prose version colors our impression of Taldain, and it's important we talk about how and why that is. Today we have Eric (Chaos), Ian (WeiryWriter), and David (Windrunner). Next week we will have a Very Special Episode, so stay tuned.
  6. So, I had my pizza, my drink, and my laptop. perfect combination. I was gonna listen to some Shardcast, and enjoy a relaxing afternoon. But wait. Sharcast won't play?!? Yeah, when I pressed the play button, nothing happened. I tried going to the soundcloud site to listen to it as well. It just said that it "could not be played at this time, please try again later" Is this just me, or? EDIT: Nevermind, I think this was just me. Please ignore this post lol
  7. This is it. We finally finished talking about the Oathbringer Tour Words of Brandon. We start with getting on a high horse on effective discourse, and then we talk about Urithiru being a spaceship, and of course, much more. We hope you've enjoyed these, but we are sure excited to do some new stuff too. This week we have Kerry (KChan), Eric (Chaos), Ian (WeiryWriter), and David (Windrunner). See you next week for some non-WoB stuff!
  8. This week we are continuing our adventure through the Oathbringer Tour Words of Brandon, and Ian and I fight again on the interpretation of intent. We got our Shardblades out; it was an epic duel! Tune in now. (Okay, it wasn't that spectacular, but hopefully it was entertaining!) Kerry returns as the one true host, and joining her is Eric (Chaos), Ian (WeiryWriter), and David (Windrunner). We also have a special guest: Kerry's phone, which went off a few times. We're all very professional. There will be one more of these next week, and it's also over an hour long too.
  9. This week, we are delving into the Words of Brandon from the Oathbringer tour (and Brandon's two holiday signings in Utah). There's so much to talk about, especially from the London signing, so we brought Ben--Overlord Jebus--to help us analyze this stuff. There's so much to talk about though that we recorded three episodes worth of content for the Oathbringer tour, and they are meaty ones. Our goal, of course, is to inform you about cool facts as well as analyze, so we hope you like it. Full spoilers for all the cosmere in this episode. We're doing everything! As always, you can go to Arcanum for all your quote needs. If you'd like to help transcribe, you can! Check out our forum and Discord for information on that. Our cast today is Eric (Chaos), Ian (WeiryWriter), David (Windrunner), and Ben (Overlord Jebus). Unfortunately David and Ben's audio was quite poor so I had to use our Skype audio for this, which is of worse quality. I tried to get the volume levels correct and it isn't perfect, so... I know. We'll see you next week for way more quotes. There will be a third installment, too, but we might split that one up with another episode so you don't get bored.
  10. Chaos

    Shardcast: Moash

This week on Shardcast we talk about Moash, and the controversy revolving around him in Oathbringer. We analyze his role in Oathbringer, our thoughts, and more. Oh we also talk about Elhokar. No reason... We also make some tangents about Star Wars and Hoid. Of course there are big Oathbringer spoilers here! Our cast today is Eric (Chaos), Ian (WeiryWriter), Matt (Comatose), and Alyx (FeatherWriter). I mostly was able to remove Alyx's microphone whir, and we are saying the word "like" less. Professionalism! Here's a link to at least an image of the Dan Wells newsletter: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/304795942719062017/398891598903246848/received_2181197685227523.jpeg
  11. Welcome to Shardcast, and Happy New Year! We are starting this year with a podcast that's way too long, but there's much to talk about. We're talking about Dalinar visiting the Valley and the Nightwatcher, and all that stuff. Obviously, there are Oathbringer spoilers here. We talk about the Old Magic, the age of the Old Magic, and of course, the Stormfather's love of the Oxford comma. (I'm only somewhat kidding.) I'm Eric, and I'm joined today with Ian (WeiryWriter), and Matt (Comatose)--who you can hear actually rifling through pages of his physical Oathbringer copy. What a weirdo. (Just kidding.) Apologies on this podcast coming a bit late this week. I was traveling and this took quite some time to edit! See you next week.
  12. Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year's. We hope you're enjoying your holidays, so we thought we would bring you holiday cheer by talking about how a bunch of knights betrayed their oaths. Yup, the Recreance is very cheery. Note in this podcast has Oathbringer spoilers! Today we have Kerry (KChan), Ian (WeiryWriter), and Eric (Chaos). I also did a different audio editing style on this one, which should hopefully fix volume issues. It did distort Kerry at one point, though. Also, our True Desolation--the war against us saying the word "like"--is not going the best, but it's noted and we are working on it. Lastly, what things would you like us to discuss in the next year? I'm always terrified we will run out of content. Though we can't promise when or if we'd get to your idea, please let us know below!
  13. This week, Brandon's yearly update on all his projects, State of the Sanderson, came out. It always comes out on the 19th, which his birthday, and we thought we'd do a quick episode talking about the updates, changes, and analyzing all the things in it. We thought it'd be a short episode, so naturally it is 40 minutes instead. Due to the holidays, it is just Ian (WeiryWriter) and Eric (Chaos). Next week we'll have a big podcast on the Recreance to close out 2017.
  14. Happy Koloss Head-Munching Day everyone! For those of you that don't know, this is a bit of an inside-joke for the fandom. Years ago Brandon was asked if there were any holidays on Scadrial, to which he jokingly replied "Koloss Head-Munching Day" (a day the koloss celebrate by having a nice head to eat). It eventually became conflated with Brandon's birthday (so yes, you should all go wish him a happy birthday) If you've been around for a few years, you might also know Koloss Head-Munching Day as the time of the year where Brandon posts his annual State of the Sanderson where he recounts what he's worked on in the past year, his upcoming projects, the status of various anticipated sequels, and potential media adaptations. Well it's here, go check it out. In other news, Eric (@Chaos) and I (@WeiryWriter) were invited to guest on the Dragons, Sexy Robots, and Adventures: A Nerd Manual podcast where we talked about Oathbringer. We had a great time working with them, and I think the episode turned out really well. Give it a listen here, and while you're at it check out some of their other episodes as well! 15. This week on Shardcast we will have a nice, leisurely, not at all contentious podcast... Just kidding, we're talking about the Love Triangle in Stormlight Archive with Shallan, Adolin, and Kaladin. We fully expect to have a lot of discord in the comments! Do note that we are talking about our personal opinions and points of view. We do hard to discuss all aspects of the love triangle, but if you disagree, please tell us why below! We have a bit of a different crew today: Eric (Chaos), Ian (WeiryWriter), Alyx (FeatherWriter), and joining us for the first time is Matt (Comatose), as well as Shannon (Greywatch). This week has our longest Shardcast yet, so enjoy (or hate) it. We discuss depression, romance, and more. You'll get all the theorizing and character analysis here on Shardcast. Also, we wage war against Alyx's expensive mic that buzzes when she talks. 10/10!
  16. This week we have a spoooooky episode. It's Oathbringer's Part Four Epigraphs, which talk about the Unmade. We spitball all sort of crazy things about the backstory of the Unmade, and then delve into all the epigraphs. We talk about all of your favorites of these creepy Eldritch horrors. Today we have Kerry (KChan), Ian (WeiryWriter), Eric (Chaos), and Ben--Overlord Jebus, who's joining us on the podcast for the first time! You can complain to Jebus about his bad audio, I did my best. For answers on spren fishing you can see our video where Jebus went to the London signing!
  17. Welcome back to Shardcast. This week we are talking in exhaustive detail about Oathbringer's Part Three Epigraphs. And I do mean exhaustive, because this podcast is longer than our Oathbringer reaction podcast. There is, however, a huge deal to talk about. These are the Urithiru gemstones, and it is crazy. Listen on, and we come up with some excellent theories for the time around the Recreance and the False Desolation. Plus, we get on a lot of exciting tangents too. Note: there are full Oathbringer spoilers here! We also discuss the mystery project, Skyward, which we got a reading to the other week. Kerry's sick today, so I am hosting, along with Ian (WeiryWriter) and David (Windrunner). Stay tuned for next week when we talk about Part Four's Epigraphs--the last of the interesting ones.
  18. Okay guys. It's time for us to nerd out about Oathbringer together, and how freaking crazy awesome it is. We're spoiling all the things. This won't really be a deep-dive like Shardkeepers was, but more of just us talking about what we loved about Oathbringer. There's a lot, and we didn't say everything, even! You'll have to excuse us having a big cast on this one. We have Kerry (KChan), Ian (WeiryWriter), David (Windrunner), Alyx (FeatherWriter), and I (Chaos). Turns out a lot of us really wanted to talk about Oathbringer, go figure. Comment below, sub to our YouTube channel which is getting regular stuff--and will have more than just Shardcast--and follow our Soundcloud! (Also, what is this? A podcast coming the week after the last one? This is madness!) As we talked about in the podcast, here's the link to Arcanum, the Words of Brandon Archive: https://wob.coppermind.net
  19. Welcome to Shardcast, the Brandon Sanderson Podcast. Today we are here to discuss the Oathbringer's Part Two Epigraphs. That means it does have Oathbringer spoilers, and actually full Oathbringer spoilers--we can't contain our excitement. But we want to dive into some of the most mysterious epigraphs in Oathbringer today. This podcast also contains spoilers for the first Mistborn trilogy (Mistborn Era 1). We're joined today with Kerry, Ian, David, Eric, and Alyx. We are also joined by Alyx's terrible mic quality and Kerry's crackling on her mic. Just the quality you expect, I'm sure! Guess what? We have a YouTube channel now! There will at least be monthly videos on it, though you can expect around the craziness of a book release, we'll have a lot more than that. Stay tuned next week where you'll find us squeeing about Oathbringer in a longer-than-usual podcast. Of course, if you want to listen on Soundcloud, that's perfectly fine! We'll be posting there too. And eventually you'll get to see our beautiful faces on camera, don't worry, but not this month I'm afraid! Shardcast is actually coming to iTunes soon (yes, really!), and we'll let you know when it's in.
  20. Welcome back to Shardkeepers! This time with Edgedancer being available as a standalone, we can pretend this podcast on analyzing Edgedancer is timely, and not months late. Yup, we are finally analyzing Edgedancer, nearly a year late, but shhhh, we were all very busy in the spring. So we're a bit out of practice (if we were ever in practice in the first place). There's absolutely no Oathbringer spoilers in this podcast, though we did need to cut some out of it, which we'll post as outtakes later. There are some Mistborn spoilers about some general Shardy things. We almost have all the gang together: Kerry, Ian, and I return, but we also have Alyx (FeatherWriter) in it. So of course instead of talking about Edgedancers we end up talking about Renarin and the Truthwatchers. We do talk about Lift, and Lift being awesome, but we also talk about Nale's name. That's a good 30% of this podcast. We talk about how terrible the Sons of Honor are, how crazy the Heralds are, and how Honor clearly isn't good all the time. We have a good philosophy time on Shardkeepers. You also get some hard-hitting analysis that you expect from Shardkeepers, such as, "don't put fire near wood." We're really killing it today. We hope you enjoy this. We kind of got a bit off track near the end, where Kerry abandoned the Shardpact and we were left to our own devices. Like with Roshar, it didn't end well. Thanks to Botanica Xu for the wonderful art of Nale and Lift
  21. Today we have a special episode of Shardkeepers, our analysis podcast, where we are talking solely about Oathbringer predictions. Strap yourself in: this one's a long podcast, but you know what, Oathbringer is a massive tome by itself. We recorded this a long time ago, prior to all the sample chapters and the beta read, so we know no special information. A few of us did see the first Dalinar flashback, but that's it. Obviously, there are Stormlight spoilers for Way of Kings, Words of Radiance, and also Edgedancer, and some minor mentions of other books. We have a little different crew this time. We have Ian and Eric, and joining us is Alyx of Splintercast fame (and notorious Renarin-lover, of course), as well and Josh and Mi'chelle, the founders of the site. Also joining us is the periodic meows of Alyx's cat, Dalish, that the mic did pick up. And you know what the best part of this podcast is? With Part One of Oathbringer coming out Tuesdays, you'll probably get to laugh at how silly our predictions are right now!
  22. Is the Shardcast going to be put on itunes? Or is it under a different name? I couldn't find it at least. And whenever I put in the Soundcloud RSS feed link myself, the earliest episode that shows up is only WoR Chapter 59. I haven't listened to any episodes before and was wanting to listen to everything starting from the beginning.
  23. You guys thought we could get through this podcast without Feather developing a crush on the bad guy? Aww, that’s cute. It has just happened. Now I’ve realized he probably dresses completely my style. That’s unfortunate. Alright. Guess we have our trash fave for this book. Ay, welcome to the dumpster. We’re back. We did it everyone! The last part of Edgedancer, and what a trip that was, huh? I struggle to figure out what’s going on with “listening” that everyone keeps telling Lift to do, and come up with a theory before the reveal, just barely. A conversation with some cremlings. Wyndle achieves his dreams after blatantly hinting at it. Also! I didn’t recognize it at the time and Google betrayed me by not bringing it up, but the shardfork/shardspork joke is actually one of mine which I forgot about, since apparently I have the worst memory. But yes, there’s been a “Shardsporks” card in my Cards Against The Cosmere deck since 2015. Ha! I also babble about video games and the Cosmere, which if you want to know more about those ideas, I did actually type them up here because I have no self control. Mistborn is Dishonored and Stormlight is Destiny, I can’t make these things up. Also, I briefly get on my soapbox regarding Renarin’s visions, and if you’re curious what that’s all about, that theory can be found over here. And I think that’s it. Just a reminder, there will not be a Splintercast for Oathbringer, unfortunately. Just want to warn you guys in advance, but yeah, that one’s not going to be happening. This could be the last Splintercast for a little while, but don’t worry, we’ll be doing other fun podcasts over here still! Keep an eye on the news box!
  24. I'm the worst Cosmere fan. What is wrong with me? Gosh dangit. I'm the worst at Cosmere. FeatherWriter's cancelled. Let's just... wow. Welcome back to Splintercast. Today, Lift is hot on the trail of Darkness, also known as Nale/Nahlay/Nail/Nalan, because who the heck knows how to actually pronounce that name. Definintely not me. Featuring: Her Pancakefulness, reunions with old friends from Nalthis, and Feather maybe starting to care a little about Szeth. I also tell a story about trying to mail a present to Botanica through the Chinese postal service and the harrowing experience that that was. Loads of fun. If you haven’t checked out Bota’s Cosmere art, you’re missing out. It’s all fabulous.
  25. Look, like the most tangental reference to Renarin just happened, and I’m like… on the verge of tears. That’s a lie. There actually are tears in my eyes. And in case that pull quote up there in italics didn’t give it away, this week, Feather talks about a character who does not even appear in this book. Somewhat at length. Because she has problems and 90% of them are Renarin Kholin. In other, non-Renarin related things, Wyndle is dropping unsubtle hints, Lift makes it into the city, eats someone’s breakfast, meets a weird guy who may or may not be Hoid, and my cat who was not even in the room while I recorded audibly cries through the door. Dalish, please. Kitty, could you not? I also talk some about Len, one of my characters, who Lift reminds me of in a weird way in that they’re really not all that much alike, but the parallels keep popping up. And that's today's episode, and we'll have another one much sooner than this one's break.
