It's one Rosharan week later (actually two, whatever), so it's time for some Shardcast, and this time it's Episode Three: Revenge of the Plot. Yes, in chapters 7-9, some inklings of the plot actually happened, so of course Eric got bored and read the rest of the book. And, as such, has no idea what happened in the actual triad we were discussing. We solve many mysteries this week, like who is Mi'chelle's sister? Will Eric get shanked? Why is Josh invading someone's box? What did Eric do to need to be censored? (Okay, we don't really solve that last one. That's why it's censored.) Because really, what more could ask from Shardcast than such edgy humor like that? Oh, right, racism. Well, we have that too. Click on, open the door to the Dor and find out the answers you seek. Missed Facts: Hrathen originally takes credit for the fall of Duladen. Brandon took this out because he felt it was too heavy handed for an "innocent" meeting. Because of the triad system, Brandon felt the need to have something important to the characters happen in each chapter. Errata: So I clearly misremembered Chapter 8, and thought the lunch Josh was referring to was in this chapter. It is not. So, Josh is totally right in that this lunch scene was pretty unnecessary.
We're back, and better (allegedly) than ever! We're switching it up, and now the main Shardcast will be our podcast where we go reading through each book. No, we aren't narrating every book--we know, you're sad--but Mi'ch, Josh, and Eric are here to give you commentary on the books, annotations, and everything! And try to make it entertaining, somehow. This episode's entertainment comes from meat. Vegetarians need not apply. You'll see. Starting off Season 1 of Shardcast, we will be reading through Elantris, and shockingly, we start at the beginning of that book, and go through Chapter 3. There's arguing about who is our favorite character, discussion of mold, beheadings, all leading up to what is surely the literal recording of the sound the Reod made. It is horrifying, because that's what Shardcast is all about. Apparently. Quick disclaimer: if you are adamantly opposed to light innuendo, maybe sit this one out? We'll be better next time. It's all Josh and Eric's fault. Spoiler Warning: Obviously, there will be Elantris spoilers, but we also go into a light Emperor's Soul discussion, a small Way of Kings spoiler, and slight Mistborn spoilers. (What of the old podcasts? They are Season 0 now. Don't worry, we will have fun theoretical stuff for you theorizers. Just you wait.) Fun Facts: The title of Elantris was originally "Adonis", and was changed only after Brandon's reading group asked him what relation Greece had to his story.
Chaos posted a article in ShardcastYou know the sophomore slump, where the sequel is never as good as the first in a series? In this episode of Shardcast, we desperately try to avoid the sophomore slump with quotes and a better outline. Then, of course, everything Splinters. Fortunately, Kerry is able to put it together again and it's totally seamless. No awkward pauses or forced segues here, no sir. This week, we are discussing The Emperor's Soul, the cosmere novella which comes out in November, and speaking of souls, we also talk about the Spiritual, the Cognitive, and the Physical. That's right, we are digging into everything we know about Realmatics. So, of course, it comes out disjointed, because we pretty much know nothing about Realmatics. Fortunately, Will is here and adds crustaceans and waffles. Because you know what Realmatic Theory needs? Waffles. Apart from the madness, we impromptu theorize about Hoid worldhops, and come up with a darned good explanation about it and Shadesmar. So sit back, jump in a pool, and hear some mysterious voices: Shardcasty voices. The quote-filled outline for this episode Spoilers: A big Hero of Ages spoiler, with some Elantris, Warbreaker, and Way of Kings ones as well. 0:40 - Steelheart to be released Fall 2013 1:45 - Shadows for Silence May Be Cosmere 3:15 - CraftyGames has been working on Alloy of Law Supplement 3:50 - Mistborn: Birthright had a playable demo at E3 4:25 - Writing Excuses: Project in Depth - The Way of Kings 5:51 - The Emperor's Soul is coming out by Tachyon Publications in November 8:03 - The Emperor's Soul is on Sel 9:43 - Introduction to Realmatic Theory 26:30 - Three Parts of Magic
