  1. So I've been thinking about the glyphs that are on some Shardblades and not others. Examination of Shallan's sketch in WoR shows clearly that Sunraiser has ten glyphs along its length, while Firestorm does not. Now possibly Sunraiser is somehow unique in this regard, but this seems unlikely. If Sunraiser were the only Shardblade to have glyphs along its edge, I should think it would have been called out explicitly as being special or noteworthy in this regard. There are ten glyphs along one edge of the Blade. There are presumably ten more on the other. Twenty glyphs total. As near as I can tell, a set of Shardplate looks like this: This description is taken from chapter 26 of TWoK, when Dalinar puts on his Shardplate. The reader should note that there are exactly twenty pieces of armor mentioned. (At least, there are exactly twenty pieces of armor mentioned if the phrase "culet and faulds" is taken to be two pieces of armor, not three. If the culet and faulds are three distinct pieces, then there are 21 pieces and the theory does not hold so well.) So we have twenty glyphs on some Blades, and twenty pieces of armor that make up Shardplate. I do not think this is a coincidence. Being a fan of the lesser-spren-as-Plate theory, I am reminded of the two ardents in TWoK, who are able to trap spren into certain forms by measuring and recording their size. I propose that Radiant spren do much the same, by "recording" the shape in which they wish the lesser spren to remain upon their own Blade. Since presumably not all Knights had advanced far enough to have Plate at the time of the Recreance, this would explain why not all Blades have the glyphs. It's just a theory, but twenty glyphs along a Blade and twenty pieces in a set of Plate seems like rather too much coincidence to be ignored.
  2. First question does shardblade appears in hand as a whole blade or something like lightsaber from hilt forward? If it is the first one what would happen when you put your hand in front of someone in the Shardplate and then summon the blade? Would it destroy the armor and kill the person wearing it, or something else and if the blade appears from hilt forward then it would probably push you backwards?
  3. Created based on discussion on other thread. Does Shallan have her plate yet, and has she had it at any points in the past?
  4. So quite simply, my question is would a gold compounder be able to survive having their central nervous system severed by a shardblade? We know that gold healing is fundamentally the same as all healing in the cosmere, and so if stormlight can heal a shardblade wound then so can gold feruchemy. But we also know that gold compounders can heal from basically any wound as long as they have access to their metalminds. So would they be able to heal from a normally mortal wound from a shardblade? Or is that a special exception?
  5. In the very beginning of WoK and other times, it is proven that honorblades require 10 heartbeats to summon. Since they aren't dead spren that need connection to the (physical realm, i think), why would they require heartbeats?
  6. I think I have a theory as to how shards work. I'm sure this has been spoken about, but I don't know where. Shards, blades specifically, are solid stormlight/investiture. Spren can become shardblades, and the common theory as to shardplate is that spren form it, like by Kaladin, windspren by the hundreds surrounded him. Spren are bits of stormlight/investiture given sentience. Therefore, Shards are stormlight. They could cut, I suppose, by separating the sould of the object, but I think Brandon mentioned it in one of the the books. Shardblades can be summoned because of the sentience. It would explain why shardplate cannot be summoned and dismissed - there is no sentience. Because that's the only difference between the two. In theory, then, if one could find a way to make stormlight solid, one could make virtually indestructable objects.
  7. Would it be possible for multiple gems to be put on a shardblade, then have multiple people bond the same shardblade?
  8. The next drawing in my series of shardbearers from the ten radiant orders. This design departs from the official drawings of shardplate the most and is meant to have a sharper and sleeker design than my previous drawings while still retaining the signature bulk and power of shardplate. If you are wondering why the figure is descending through a giant portal it is because I wanted to show the shardbearer in the middle of elsecalling, and since I don't know what elsecalling actually looks like I imagined it like this. Hope you like it!
  9. Branderbot 2000's newest novel features a love triangle for our sassy redheaded heroine. In this episode, she goes stepping out with a handsome prince in armour (refer to previous episode, Six Feet of Steel) who is not very smart but is pretty good at beating people up. Does she choose the mysterious shirtless bridgeman Kaladin? Or the well-heeled prince with sacks of spheres? It turns out the prince has mysteries of his own... ...like how he poops in Shardplate.
  10. So there is this description of Oathbringer, So most of the time we immediately think that the blade curves twords the user, but what say you about a blade that curves away from the user? (Like dacian falx). As an aside I'll mention, that such blade design could be very useful in penetrating Parshendi carapace, way more then straight blades.
  11. Syl kills a red voidspren that is near the prince (kings son) in the form of a dagger in Kaladin's hand. Do all Radient blades have the ability to kill spren? What happens to the spren on the other side in the cognitive realm? If anyone has any ideas or theorys on what these could be could they share their thoughts?
  12. From the album: Stormlight Archive Fanart

I doodled this in two minutes, so not a lot of quality.
  13. I've been thinking that Moash and Kaladin are maybe a bit like opposites; they were in a similar situation -- being in the bridge crews after tragedy befalling them or their families -- and Moash clings to revenge and he has that singular focus, while Kaladin turns away from revenge and arrives at the realization "I will protect even those I hate." (Speaking of which; isn't that such a totally mind-blowing statement?? I don't know if I could do that.) It seemed to me like they arrived at a similar crossroads and took opposite paths. Turning aside from selfish concerns to selfless ones. Thoughts?
  14. Remember how in Emperor's Soul, a braindead person's mind was recreated using an essence mark? Dead shardblades are basically braindead spren (recall how Pattern said spren don't truly die, they just sort of break). It seems probable that you could temporarily resurrect a "dead" shardblade with an essence mark, provided you knew enough about the blade's history to make a forgery. There's most likely an easier way to revive a dead shardblade (I give it 50/50 odds that Adolin resurrects his blade at some point in the books), but, the idea is kind of interesting. Restoring an ancient and damaged thing seems like exactly the kind of thing forgery was made for.
  15. So, Nightblood is basically a super op sword that we have never seen defeated and according to the Nightwatcher "can never be defeated". We also know he is fairly similar to a shardblade in the way he acts, but far more powerful. So my question is, would a regular shardblade be able to block a strike from Nightblood? Would shardplate be able to block it the way it blocks regular shardblades? Would Nightblood just consume the blade and plate (i.e. consume the investiture of the shards)? Would this result in, when Nightblood strikes a shardblade, just kill the spren that acts as your blade and so stop you from being a radiant any longer? What can this thing do? Thanks in advance for your insights.
  16. So we know that a normal shardblade will not appear as such in shadesmar, as it will instead appear as the spren which becomes the blade in the physical realm. We also see that Vivvennas shardblade does appear in the cognitive realm because it is not a spren. So then what about honorblades? As far as I'm aware, the honorblades aren't spren, but instead some other magical stuff™. So I ask, would an honorblade be usable in the cognitive realm?
  17. Can I just say how much I love that I have the same name as Adolin's sword? (Well I mean my name's Maia, (pronounced Maya), but it's close) I can officially say that my name is unique enough to make it into a Cosmere book. Not many people can!
  18. What part of themselves are the deadeyes missing? Would it be possible to heal this by tapping a metalmind or using Ba-Ado-Mishram?
  19. So this started out as a thought experiment and I wanted to get input on it from the Shard. It is only a matter of time (in my opinion) before we see a coinshot or mistborn running around with a shardblade. If my theory is correct, then scadrian shardblades will be keyed to one of the 16 allomantic metals. What would each metal's blades look like? would they act like the Bands of Mourning and grant the powers of that metal? Or would they do something else? Please give me you input.
  20. So in Kal's fight with Szeth, we saw that Syl was capable of taking many forms, namely as a sword, spear, dagger, and shield. After reading this I got the impression that a spren can take on the form of essentially any weapon for the radiant. But as I thought about this I began to wonder if it is the same for ranged weapons. I'm sure a spren could take the form of a bow, or crossbow or whatever, but if they did how exactly does it work? Does the spren act as the bow and the arrows? Or simply the bow and you have to use regular arrows? Or could you use a regular bow with your spren acting as the arrows? Obviously, the spren being both is the more useful alternative, but I'm dubious as to whether the spren could actually manage it. Anyway, I hope someone knows more about this and can help me out.
  21. We saw when Dalinar bonded the Stormfather that he would not have a shard blade. I wonder whether this is the case for all Bondsmiths, and whether it applies to shardplate as well. Presumably a bondsmith could still wear shardplate without any issues. Also, I always got the impression that the Stormfather refused to be his blade out of pride, is there anything actually stopping the Stormfather from becoming his shardblade? Presumably, if Dalinar could be persuasive enough then the Stormfather may be convinced to become his blade. Feel free to correct me wherever I may be wrong. I welcome your input.
  22. warning: contains spoilers for mistborn era 1 as we know, shardblades can slice through anything but aluminium and other invested items like shardplates and half-shards (and possibly enlived objects). but if I understand correctly what was written in "hero of the ages" and "secret history", on scadrial any kind of metal used in the metallic arts is invested, and by that preservation blinded ruin. and if it is so, that every shred of metal from scadrial is invested, wouldn't it suggest that a simple scadrian sword would be able to withstand a hit from a shardblade?
  23. Would it be possible to cut a planet in half with an enormous Blade? Made from a live spren, of course. How big can Shardblades make themselves, anyway? Can they change their density to anything other than usual, so the Radiant holding it would be able to lift it? Syl might have done this when she turned into a hammer (do lightweight hammers break bones really well?) in the fight between Kaladin and Szeth.
