  1. Recap of what we know, based on a recent re-read of Rhythm of War: 1. The Ghostbloods are looking for a way to transport Stormlight to other planets. Mraize also explains that the same Connection issues that prevent Stormlight from moving away from Roshar also apply to heavily-Invested people. 2. Thaidakar cannot leave Scadrial, likely because he is so heavily Invested and has such strong Connection to that planet. 3. Mraize says Kelek is working on a way to escape Roshar. He may have ideas on how a highly-Invested person might be able to move off planet. 4. The Ghostbloods are obsessed with Ba-Ado-Mishram. 5. Kelek believes the Ghostbloods were hunting him to get information about Ba-Ado-Mishram. 6. Ba-Ado-Mishram was Connected with the Singers, and putting Ba-Ado-Mishram in a gemstone ripped away Identity and Connection from them. 7. Ba-Ado-Mishram is trapped in a perfect gemstone. We don't know where Ba-Ado-Mishram's gemstone is, but Shallan is committed to finding it before the Ghostbloods 8. Rhythm of War hints that Shallan may soon become a worldhopper If Ba-Ado-Mishram's imprisonment somehow affected her Connection with everyone's souls on Roshar, that could help Thaidakar sever his connection with Scadrial and allow him to move off-planet. Theory time: I wonder if Ba-Ado-Mishram's gemstone has been moved off-planet and somehow the Ghostbloods found out about it happening, hence Thaidakar's obsession with finding her and interrogating Kelek. Given the implication of Shallan being ready to explore other worlds, I wonder if Shallan's mission in Wind and Truth will be a worldhopping adventure to track down Ba-Ado-Mishram before the Ghostbloods can get to her. I can't wait for Wind and Truth! With the new Odium wanting to "save them all", El preparing to lead a human legion in a greater war, and Thaidakar aching to get off-world, there are going to be some major Cosmere-wide implications at the end of this Stormlight arc!
  2. Not an expert in Cosmere/Connection stuff by any means, but something in RoW sparked curiosity: In my opinion, Adolin is personally suited to Stonewards (team dynamics, being there for those who need them) and not so much Edgedancers (being there for the common folk). If Maya did not exist, he may have attracted a peakspren already? Also, I was just reading RoW for the second time and stumbled upon these 3 Adolin thoughts italicized in Chapter 35 as he fought the Tukari off with Maya alongside him, and Brandon's italicizing seems suspicious to me: 1. Never underestimate the strength of a soldier trained to stand fast. 2. Never underestimate the simple intimidating force of a man who won't back down. 3. Never underestimate the worth of being willing to hold. Your. GROUND. Do these sound suspiciously like Oaths? I have noticed Brandon previously italicizing Oaths. Especially the first one which sounds very similar to what Coppermind thinks will be a Stoneward second Ideal! Has Adolin already sworn his Stoneward Ideals, but no peakspren around obviously, but do you think Maya somehow accepted these (they can sense each other's thoughts/feelings) and What decided that cultuvationspren would be Edgedancer spren and peakspren be Stoneward spren? Could Maya and Adolin be making a cultivationspren Stoneward???
  3. I think this might be the right place for this... Or maybe not, who knows. Anyways, I had a really awesome idea for Stormlight archive merchandise. I was thinking about how I wanted a leatherbound copy of Rhythm of War since it's my favorite, but it's not out yet. As I was mopping I started thinking that it'd be really cool to actually have a copy of the in-universe version of the Rhythm of War, so that's my proposal. I want to buy an official copy of the Rhythm of War notebook so I can read Navani's insanity unfold in real time and I think that's something that everyone wants to be honest hehe. More seriously, I think the in-universe Rhythm of War works better as merch than the other in-universe namesakes since those are whole books and this would be more like a fancy keepsake than an actual read. So those are my thoughts on it. I don't know if there's a spot to petition merch or if this is even the right spot to talk about it but if you have any thoughts I'm free to hear them!
  4. I was chatting about the Stormlight Archive when eventually we started talking about Rhythm of War where we saw Navani create anti-voidlight, but what if you did this with ODIUM? my theory is that this would do 2 things, 1. Make an anti-odium(more about that later) 2. Make odium stronger, I feel this would happen as a form of Law of Conservation of Power of Shards (LOCOPOS) Why does this matter, this might seem silly and it kind of is, but odium could abuse this, say he goes through this process and an antishard is created, since odium is passion, the anti-odium is Apathy, this would mean that when Odium does this, he would get stronger, but the anti shard he creates wouldn't care AT ALL, this gives him the ability to rinse and repeat, and the only thing he has to do to be safe is sty some distance away fromn the apathy shards he's creating. Thoughts?
  5. Hello everyone, and welcome to the Cosmere Character Roast Battle Tournament! The Sharder currently in charge is @Ghanderflaffle. Please direct your questions to her instead of Ashspren. There are RoW spoilers in this thread. You have been warned. Here’s a rough outline of how this is gonna work… Up to 16 people sign up. I will RANDOMLY choose four characters to go against each other. The people who are representing these characters will write a rap, roasting the other characters– every character for themselves. They will have 48 hours, otherwise they will forfeit. If all people forfeit, they are all out. Votes for the best rap will be using a link to a survey. The person with the most votes after 24 hours wins! I will announce the winner, then announce the next people. More In-Depth Tournament Structure: In the first round, there will be 4 people participating per competition (ex- Sarene, Kaladin, Vin, Vasher) and they will all be going against each other. There will be one winner out of the four. That will narrow things down to 4 people left in the tournament. These competitions will be in pairs (ex- Vin vs Hoid, Kelsier vs Dalinar). The final two will go head-to-head in the Roast Finale. Fillers: If you are too late to sign up for this round, you might still be able to compete! You will be put on a waiting list, so if anyone is unable to participate, you can step in and represent their character. However, this is only for the primary round. In the semifinals and championships, if someone is unable to compete, the second place winner from their previous match will step in. They will also have to represent the previous person's character. If you are a filler person, you are allowed to be on the reserved list for the next tournament. However, if you are pulled into the current tournament, you will be taken off the reserved list. Ties: If we are in the face of a tie, the two people who tied will have up to 8 lines to roast the other person. These mini-roasts, plus the actual raps themselves, will determine the winner of that round. If you’re interested in writing raps to roast other characters, comment which character you would like to represent. No duplicates, please! There can be up to 16 people participating, because this is the Cosmere, and 16 is important. I will start the competitions once 16 people have commented. Tag anyone who you think might be interested! IMPORTANT NOTE: You do not have to actually rap! Just think of it more as writing poetry, but “roasting with poetry” just didn’t have the right ring to it... Outdated:
  6. Welcome to the Museum of Cryptics Please follow our guide through Cultivation's perpendicularity. Once on the other side, kindly refrain from touching the petrified lifeforms, as the disease may spread. Follow the guide, and keep a quick pace, as you may have to run from angerspren at some point in the journey. If you are still alive once you have entered the building, present your passes to the Admittance Officer and enjoy your visit.
  7. So this has been bothering me since I reread RoW. In Mistborn ruin and Preservation are opposites, both logically and physically as they destroy each other. It makes sense that there is a shard for both preservation and ruin as they are fundamentally different and represent aspects of the cosmere. Because they are logical opposites, there investitures are also opposites. However, in RoW Navani insinuates that opposite investitures must be created. What does this mean then? Do all shards have an opposite shard or do some shards just not have an opposite? I've taken a quick look at the known shards and I can't find reasonable opposites for some of them, whether or not this is due to personal error, it doesn't look like all shards have opposite shards, but some do? If anyone knows more about this please inform me.
  8. So I was reading Rhythm of War and I noticed a pattern throughout each Part. The titles of the Parts aren’t scrutinized much but in each book the five titles of the Parts are a ketek or palindrome. However behind these titles are symbols, and they also follow a symmetrical pattern. Its obvious with a quick check that the first symbol is of the Willshapers. The second is Stonewards and the third is Bondsmiths, and then the pattern reverses. I’m assuming a similar pattern shows up in the other books, but with different symbols. I don’t understand what they mean? Are they like the Herald banners on each chapter or do they have a greater significance to the plot?
  9. In chapter 4 the following is written: Something from nothing. Creation. Beauty from raw materials. Art. Order from chaos. Organization. This is almost identical to when Navani wrote the prayer for Dalinar in RoW. In yumi and the nightmare painter, creation was also mentioned in connection with art in chapters 34 and 41. My shot in the dark is this is connected with a Dawnshard.
  10. Ok, I don't have access to a pdf of RoW, so I'll do this as best I can. Some of you super-quoters, please help me out with the specific passages. In Ch 67 of RoW "Song of Stones" Venli is trying to
  11. I realize that Nightblood is currently on Roshar, but I put this in Cosmere discussion because it deals with multiple planets. So it felt appropriate. If you haven't read Warbreaker, Oathbringer, and Rhythm of War, you should wait until you do.
  12. Hello! So, I'm back again with another hairbraned theory with little to no evidence to back it up. But, it sure would be cool if it were true. At the very end of the Ars Arcanum of RoW, we get an interesting quote about an entity named Foil that lives in an ocean and wants control of the aethers. When RoW came out, the identity of this being was unknown. Then Tress was released and we got introduced to a fun dragon named Xisis. Xisis lives at the bottom of the Crimson sea and studies, you guessed it, the aethers. This implies that they're the same. This is only circumstantial evidence, of course, but it seems to me like a pretty strong connection. A quick search of Coppermind and Arcanum didn't reveal anything, so I'm asking for thoughts. Do you think that Foil and Xisis are the same? Is there any evidence I've overlooked? Please tell me your point of view.
  13. So in the ars arcanum of RoW khriss says : And in TotES we learn that xisis lives under the aether sea researching something. Most probably the aethers. So what are the odds that xisis is foil ?
  14. I put this in the Stormlight Archive Forum because most of where we see Nightblood, is on Roshar? So, I'm going back through Warbreaker, and Nightblood sounds (at least to me) to be far more astute than they are in OB or RoW. Granted, Nightblood seems pretty interested in/distracted by Szeth (and Lift) so it could be that, but there are a *lot* more comments about Vasher from Nightblood in Warbreaker then there are about/to Szeth? They sort of, poke fun at him (Vasher)..or comment on hypocrisy and other complex thoughts, that I don't feel are represented in their dialogue in SA? Am I missing something about this? I know from some WoB, that Nightblood is/has been maturing over the centuries that they've been alive as they absorb investiture, but their dialogue seems even more self-centered in SA then it is in SA, more juvenile maybe? At least to me. Thoughts? Illuminations? Reasons for this that I'm missing something obvious?
  15. I noticed both WoK/ WoR ( set A) and OB / RoW (set B ) have common characteristics in plot structure and character development, that makes them mirror each other in a way. Since symmetries (like Keteks) are very much a part of SA worldbuilding, I do not think this is coincidental, as Pattern said art is kind of like math.... (A): centered on the Shattered Plains vs OB/ RoW (B): centered on Urithiru; Unrelated: (B) both feature a trip through Shadesmar with Adolin and Shallan and to Hearthstone with Kaladin; (A) at the end Dalinar bonds to the Stormfather (B) at the end Navani bonds to the Sibling (A) main chars Kaladin / Shallan a baited romantic relationship; (B) Dalinar/ Navani an actual romantic relationship (A) flashback chars Kaladin/ Shallan both had trauma in their past, (B) Dalinar and Venli inflicted trauma on a large scale in their past but regret it later; (A) Sadeas is the main villain; (B) Odium is the main villain, both die at the end of the respective set. (A) Szeth is a menace or a minor villain,; (B) Szeth does not really do that much (A) Szeth holds the Honorblade, with which Gavilar is murdered in the beginning (B) Szeth holds Nightblood with which Odium is murdered in the end. Let`s see weather you can find more symmetries, I am sure I missed a lot Oh and this also means the next installment is going to be the odd one sticking out, which is fitting for Szeths book.
  16. In Ch 16 of RoW, it's mentioned that little Gav, is just that, little. Too small for his age. And then it's thrown out their casually that the doctor's wonder if "something was done to him" during his time in the palace. Has Brandon addressed this at all? Are there any hints out there that I'm not picking up on? <---This is my primary assumption with most of my Cosmere questions. A secondary question is, If he was experimented on, why? To what end? It's possible (even likely) that the trauma he endured took a toll on his physical development. But if it's not that, is there any reason to believe the Fused could create some sort of time-released plan with a young child they planned on sending to their enemies?
  17. From the album: Shallan Stormblessed's not incredible art!

I tried a wider scene, with all of Kal and Syl visible. But.. failed miserably. So then I just did this. And it was fun. And by the way, it's supposed to be a scar on his arm.
  18. At the end of Rhythm of War we saw that the chasmfiend helped the Listeners. In the prologue there were three colors of blood. Red and orange are human and singer, and violet is the color greatshell blood. What if there were chasmfiends that were killed with the original fused and they got turned into thunderclasts? If they are sapient then they theoretically could be turned into cognitive shadows.
  19. What do you think of a possibility of Adolin becoming the third Bondsmith? It makes sense to me that if anyone could restore all, or a large number of Deadeyes, it would be Cultivation's Bondsmith. Adolin seems to be interested in helping more of them do what Maya did, and he remains the only major character who isn't Radiant. That would also continue the trend of Kholin becoming Bondsmiths, and of Cultivation manipulating events that bear fruit much later. Maybe she removed Dalinar's memory of Evi in part to make him a more nurturing father to her future Bondsmith. Maya is a cultivation spren as well, so there's a connection there. I'm aware that this is just speculation, but I thought it was fun. Also sorry if this was already discussed before but I haven't found anything.
  20. Hello, assorted sanderfans! I have just finished reading the first few chapters of The Lost Metal, and it looks like things are getting spicy. I'm pretty convinced that the Set is following Odium at this point. Odium is preparing for conquest of the Cosmere, and Scadrial looks like his first target. Here are some reasons why I think so. As Taravangian ascended and became Odium near the end of RoW, he decided that the rest of the Cosmere was ruled by ¨impostors.¨ In classic villain logic, he decides to take over the other worlds to ¨save¨ them. As Lost Metal is the first major Cosmere book to be released after RoW, narrative flow would make it a good target for invasion. At the end of Bands of Mourning, we saw someone with red eyes, working for the Set and disguised as a human. That sounds a lot like a Fused. Lord Ladrian's internal monologue indicates that it is disguised, and there's an order of the Fused who have that as their sole ability, so... yeah. From the blurb, we know that Harmoy's prescience doesn't work in a particular town, which is being influenced by the Set. That has served as an indicator that another person/shard who can see the future is in the area, and Odium is the best shard for seeing the future. Please respond if you think differently!
  21. Hello everyone, i was just wondering: is there a limit to how much Investiture Nightblood can absorbe? Since RoW we know there is kind of a limit, at least Nightblood was fed up after consuming part of Odiums Investiture. But is this the hard limit of how Invested Nightblood can become or can it still wield more Investiture? Secondly we know that Nightblood leaks Investiture in form of black smoke, so there is definitely a loss there. Just imagine the possibility of Nightblood storing a very big amount of Investiture. In that case it may function as a Perpendicularity, so you might be able to travel the Realms freely just by holding Nightblood. There might also be the possibility for Nightblood to mix different types of Investitures. I imagine that, after consuming Stormlight and Voidlight, the black smoke it leaks may have similarities to Warlight. I hope we see something like this in later books, as it would enhance our understanding of the cosmere significantly. So let me know your thoughts on this. Maybe there is somthing in the books i missed or maybe there are WoBs I don't know about. Cheers and have a wonderful day.
  22. Ok, Since we have had enough time theorize about the major things from RoW, I thought it would be good to make a thread about the smaller details that doesnt have much discussion. Also, I just finished a reread and I really wanna talk about it. This is a bunch of theory fodder for future speculation too 1) Navani hears a pure note even before meeting raboniel. Even rushu How?? And Rushu?? What about Dalinar? 2)Navani created light She is only singing the rhythm of honor, and singing the rhythm redirects the investiture. Is the sibling using a vacuum tube somewhere? How is light being created? Is there some stormlight being redirected in this scene? 3)Taravangian's Bravery 4 times! 2 times italicized and at the end, the last 'bravery' is separated from all the other passions. Makes no sense to me, why is this important? 4) Taravangian never reveals how he knows szeth's dad died 5) Hmm interesting, Gav's laughter hurts szeth and szeth feels he is a danger to gav. Hmmmmm 6) Wonder what horrible things they did? 7) Close to what, Teft?? Did moash kill another amazing radiant swearing an ideal and getting redemption moment?? 8)The Tukari are wreathed in shadows for some reason 9)Odium's connection with Dalinar grows? Dalinar hasn't been doing anything to serve odium, then his connection should be weakening instead of growing, right? 10) Stone of Ten dawns I am calling it right now, Ba Ado Mishram is trapped in the stone of ten dawns. Purely based on the name 11) Raboniel wanted Venli to find the listeners, which Venli noticed and brings up many times. Raboniel died before Venli found them, but we never find out her plan? The sleeping radiants were revealed to be part of her plan to test anti-stormlight on radiant spren. But we never find out why she manipulated Venli. 12) Lift could use regrowth in Urithiru but not abrasion. The fact that abrasion doesnt work means that its not lifelight or lift's weirdness thats the cause, instead it seems that progression is really cultivation's truest surge, like adhesion to honor. Then Why do the fused have progression and not adhesion? 13) Urithiru is original? This is suuuuuper interesting, as we know that Urithiru was placed in the place 'closest to honor'. The valley of the nightwatcher also happens to be nearby. These mountains are special by themselves 14) Axindweth knew jaxlim's mental illness. The only way that makes sense to me is through future sight and fortune. Anyone more well versed in mistborn tell me if feruchemists can have an idea of the future? 15)Szeth gets shocked when he sees that ishar is a shin-like man. Dalinar doesnt think much about, bu we know that shin are the people who remember the history of the world better than everyone. I have a feeling that this revelation is ground breaking for szeth right now. 16) Very good question Venli, why didn't they? workform and warform are not forms of power, so there isn't a reason not to remember how to get them. 17) The titles of the 5 parts of RoW combined give the ketek by el at the end. It is clearly talking about urithiru, which shows us that el cares about urithiru and thinks of it as a home. Thats a problem 18) Venli suggests that the listeners knew what would happen. We know they knew about the everstorm, did they really know what was going to happen? 20) Jasnah says she could be the last alethi ruler. Is that foreshadowing for back 5? A democratic revolution? 21) Cultivation + Odium = Freedom That is how i read it anyway 22) This kind of language is only used with Dalinar, with his warmth that he thinks of as a god. What is interesting is that that Renarin is causing this, which is a first. Maybe something to do with the spiritual realm? 23) A Death rattle solved?? This is when Jasnah goes to war. Her description is very suspiciously similar to a death rattle So now we know what the army is that the ten radiants are facing. Its the singer army. with maybe some humans(iriali) wow this became huuuge. these are all the obscure details I could find in the Book. Did i miss any?
  23. This would be fun. Topics such as What If... Adolin Stayed Behind? or What If... Kaladin Had Grandparents?* or What If... Kaladin's Homecoming Was From Lirin's PoV? *meaning people who acted as his grandparents.
