  1. Lina

    STEELHEART

    From the album: Alt Covers

  2. Reckoners is cosmere Not cosmere is Snapshot Snapshot is Reckoners. Huh. I did not expect that (source: State '16)
  3. I was wondering what would happen if Megan was evil. Core Possibility 5: Setting similar to Book 1; but instead of being a reluctant Epic, Megan is a High Epic in all her glory. She would have the proficiency with her powers she attained at the end of Book 3 and also be a fearless self-reincarnation Prime Invciciblity. I would be surprised if "Firefight" wasn't ruling Newcago with Steelheart as her right hand Core Possibility 6: Calamity left after creating Epics, thus no weaknesses. However, Steelheart not Blaine got the power, and Megan and Nightwielder still transformed Newcago.
  4. Now shush, don't make this a doom thread because the Reckoners are here too. But for those who have read any one of the Mistborn Era 2 books, you will know Wayne. Beautiful, insane, ridiculous Wayne, a man that follows a code based on a harrowing past that it took friendship, trust and an perseverance to save him from. What would we do without Wayne? Very little. For me, at least, for he is wonderful. Just to quickly evaluate a key trait he has as a person (rather than a Twinborn, put that aside for the time being) - Wayne impersonates to the point that he becomes another person - the accent, dialect, traits, mannerisms, he can suddenly be from somewhere else simply by talent alone. Marvelous. Now, for any of you who have read any of the Reckoners trilogy (minus the second, sort of), you will know how ridiculous Cody can be. Is terms of characterization, and placement within a novel, he is very much on par with Wayne. Similarly, he holds to a code based on who he was. Who he was made him into who he is. To look at what stands out for him as person now, he seems to hold true to his own history and mythology, a distorted beauty of Scottish and Irish legends and myths suddenly becoming Southern American. Whether or not he genuinely believes these stories of his, it became evident in Calamity, the third and final Reckoners novel, how much of a comfort they are for him (David used them as a pep talk, sort of). Wayne can also be said to find comfort in being someone else, given how tragic his backstory is and how much hold it has on his present state. Ignoring that whole "T H A T I S N O T T H E S A M E U N I V E R S E" jazz - which is justified, but awfully boring for this question - how do you think a conversation between the two would go, if they were to meet? Would Wayne see someone worth impersonating - if so, would he end up facing personal truths he thought buried long ago? Or would it be something more manic, in which both try to outdo each other in their own, unique insanities? Personally, if Wax and David weren't around, I feel they would bring about the end of creation together but wouldn't notice due to being stuck in the midst of an argument on the ancient Scottish dialects of Irish knights fighting Welsh dragons. . . . Or something along those lines
  5. Now I Know What You're All Thinking Yet another new face to the 17th Shard, trying to make his way in the world by shoving foolhardy ideas out into it. And you would be right, for there is no better way to start than to have an idea shut down. How else would the next one come to fruition, after all? So bear with me, please, as I am naive and somewhat already addicted to this site (*pointedly avoids looking at the time*) So no matter what I'm told, no matter what Sanderson says, I am convinced that there is some connection between The Reckoners world/universe and that of the Cosmere. Don't worry, I am not stating that I believe it is WITHIN the Cosmere, but that there is some sort of connection. I mean, this is Sanderson we're talking about, and he is nothing if not one surprise after another. So First & Foremost, Some Foundations Okay, allow me to echo back to the conclusion to Calamity, in which we actually meet the title himself. Not Larcener the High Epic, but Calamity the God of sorts (we'll get to that). Trace back a number of steps to the dialogue between Calamity and David Charleston, our protagonist. Calamity hinted that there were many others like him, but did not elaborate on that whatsoever - did he mean each were sent to a different version of reality, or each were sent to a different world with sentient lifeforms? This does not initially seem something Calamity should be so afraid of revealing, until he nearly lets slip a very important detail. That is, each of these Calamity-figures were all sent by someone. It seems like he was referring to just one person at the time, before he cut himself off, so not much more was given here. We must also trace back to the very idea of other realities, and how heavily they weighed on the world and story. Other realities do exist. If infinite, it is not unlikely that the Cosmere is nestled in there. But I digress. Let's move on. Idea #1 - Reckoner-Earth Is In The Cosmere I should probably mention here and now that I don't believe this one is the truth of it. Maybe a bit of me hopes, but I don't really believe it. That would be too simple, too. . . not Sanderson. Look at the investiture of the confirmed Cosmere worlds - they are inherent to the world itself, to its peoples to its Gods for Gods' sake (don't excuse the pun, I'm proud of that one). The powers bestowed upon Epics are exactly that; bestowed. Given with a singular purpose by a singular figure (with a mysterious, and unfinished background). This figure, Calamity, was not a God of any sort. He simply does not fit in with the image of the Shards. Yes, we could think on the "others like him" as Shards, assuming he himself was one, but he also said they were each given a purpose, so to speak. Think again on Odium in the Cosmere - I doubt his purpose, if given by whoever (Adonalisium?) would be to splinter the other Shards. There is plenty of foundation to use this as a plausible theory, but I don't full accredit it. Let me know your thoughts! Ideas #2 - Reckoner-Earth Is In The Cosmere 2.0 Now, I had never even considered this before reading an entry on tor.com on part with the announcement of the Apocalypse Guard (Entry by Chris Lough - http://www.tor.com/2016/03/01/brandon-sanderson-announces-new-apocalypse-guard-book-trilogy/ ). Naturally I don't want to take full credit for this kind of idea, but let's step back a little and try see its potential. Essentially more or less all of the points from Idea #1 will be applied here, but instead of being within a Cosmere it is within a universe of its own - for sake of argument, we'll put it Cosmere 2.0. Again, who sent Calamity? WHAT IS Calamity? Will the Apocalypse Guild, with it being "parallel to Earth" be within this second Cosmere? All are questions we can't answer yet. But let's face it - we haven't seen the end of Calamity. His end was far too much of a loose end, and if we know anything, it's that Prof isn't a big fan of those. Megan is convinced Calamity will return. Mysteries upon mysteries left up in the remains of that glass ISS. We haven't seen the end of Calamity or, at least, the world in which the Reckoners take place regardless of whether or not there is a Cosmere 2.0. Ideas #3 - There Is A Cosmere 1.0, 2.0 & Maybe 3.0? Now, assume that there is a Cosmere (which there, uhm, is) but also a Cosmere 2.0, in which the Reckoners are, potentially the Apocalypse Guard and whatever else comes along (I am still uncertain as to whether or not is other non-Cosmere works would work here). But there is never a simple quid pro quo with Sanderson. So I will leave the idea of a third universe / Cosmere 3.0. A sort of leeway, almost like the three planes in Cosmere 1.0 (this is getting confusing). I mean, at this point this kind of thing can't be ruled out - after all, all Sanderson told us was that the likes of the Reckoners are not in the Cosmere as we know it (Mistborn, Stormlight and so on). He never speculated on a second Cosmere, let alone a third. What would be the purpose to a third, you ask? Well, look at the Cosmere. It has this ultimate storyline going on behind the scenes with Adonalisium, the Shards and Hoid. If there was a Cosmere 2.0, presumably it, too, would have its own storyline. Of course, if there were these two, there would have to be a point to it. A point to these two HUGE stories. So how else to connect them, if not through a third party? A Cosmere 3.0, if you will ealise there isn't a tremendous amount of supporting evidence here, but alas, until more books come out I cannot say. After all, one can't read Elantris and assume to know all there is about the Cosmere. That wouldn't make much sense. So let me know below your thoughts, where you think everything lies within Sanderson's head. I adore the idea that, on some level, ALL of his work is connected, even if it never touches. So give me your thoughts, whether to add onto mine or crush them down, whatever helps me keep up with my conspiracies That's all for now folks, until the next annoyance
  6. Welcome to Hurt-and-Heal: Epics! If you've never played before, here's the rules: Each Epic starts with 5 HP. In each post of yours, choose 1 Epic to hurt for 1 HP and 1 to heal for 1 HP. In your post, please specify who you're hurting/healing and post an updated list with your choices bolded and numbers updated. You may post multiple times, but must wait for at least 10 minutes and 2 posts before you can post again. When only 2 Epics are left (or when the players want it), hurting increases potency to 2 HP The last Epic standing is victorious. For my turn, I Hurt Conflux and Heal Limelight. 1. Steelheart-5 2.Calamity-5 3. Firefight-5 4. Murkwood-5 5. Limelight-6 6. Conflux-4 7. Nightwielder-5 8. Fortuity-5 9. Obliteration-5 10. Regalia-5
  7. Here's a fun idea for a topic~ Picture your favourite Brandon Sanderson novel (since, after all, this is his official fansite)... as a video game. Here's how this works. Pitch your favourite novel or novels, then state what video game genre would best fit an adaptation of said property and explain why you think it's the best fit in the first place. Oh, and any details about mechanics or how you'd approach turning any of these worlds from a video game angle would be plenty cool. For instance... since neither Warbreaker nor Elantris are as heavily action-oriented as Stormlight Archive or Mistborn, imagine a Telltale-style point and click story game. When you consider Prince Raoden, he's more of an investigative scholar and diplomat than an action hero like Kaladin or Vin, a Walking Dead-esque game would be perfectly suited to exploring a story mechanically in his shoes. What about you guys, how would you like to see the Sander-man's work adapted into video games?
  8. I love the reckoners series, and it completely became one of those ideas I so wished I had come up with. Because of this, I started making lots of fan epics, and some of them are pretty cool in my opinion.
  9. MR12: Turf War Calamity has risen and Epics have begun to appear throughout the world. Luckily, Portland hasn’t been touched by much yet, though you know it can’t last long. Three gangs have begun fighting over territory in the city as the government begins to collapse. But the government isn’t giving up yet. Government Agents have infiltrated each gang and are trying to bring them down and establish a cohesive government again. The Blood Tyrants are a violent group, one that’s been around for some time, since before Calamity arose. The members of the gang are harsh and unforgiving, almost bloodthirsty. Their headquarters are in an Abandoned Warehouse. The Pearl District Neighborhood Watch is a group that formed to keep their neighborhood safe. They are very protective and loyal, always watching out for each other. Lately, they’ve begun to try to keep the entire city in order. They are based in the City Hall. The Evanescents were your stereotypical high school nerds. But when the government grew weak, they used their knowledge and began studying Epics and producing weapons and technology. They are based in an Underground Laboratory. The Government Agents are here in Portland, trying to take down the gangs so that they can establish a single, strong government over the town so the Epics can be dealt with and punished by the law. They have spread out and infiltrated the gangs in Portland. They are hiding in each one, trying to take them down from the inside. Win Conditions Condition 1: To win, each gang must eliminate the Government Agents within their own group. Condition 2: Blood Tyrants Win when all of the PDs Neighborhood Watch’s Epics die. Pearl District Neighborhood Watch wins when all of The Evanescents’ Epics die. The Evanescents win when all of Blood Tyrants’ Epics die. (This is not a secondary win condition. Both conditions must be met.) Government Agents win when everyone else is dead. General Rules: Hellscythe and I will be co-GMing this game. Standard Elimination Rules and Etiquette apply. 48 hour cycles (24 hour day and 24 hour night) Please include both of the GMs in all PMs. Sign ups will last a week, but due to scheduling, will end on either Friday, March 11th or Saturday March 12th at 4:00 pm MST. You will be informed 12 hours before, which time signups will end. Rollover will be at 4:00 pm MST. (5 minutes after this was posted) A new player list and countdown clock will be included at the start of the turns. If a player doesn't post in the thread for three turns, they will be MIA and they will be assumed dead. At that point, they will go straight to the dead doc, without entering Limbo. Because of the Tough Guy and Harmsway, there will be a one-turn period after death where players will be in Limbo. They will not be able to influence the game or access the dead doc in that time. After 24 hours, their role, gang, and alignment will be revealed and they will enter the dead doc if they do not come back. Roles - Banker - Cannot gain their own Points. Can only use points from the Bank to gain actions. Gang Investigator - Learn random person in your own gang or learn target player’s gang membership. Thugs - Each night, Thugs may protect one player from death. (Does protect from the Hit Man) Drunks - Can’t remember their role, alignment, or gang at the beginning of the game. They will sober up at some point in the game. Snitch - Give the gang membership, alignment, or role(randomly chosen each time) of one target player to another target player. (Night Action) Hit Man - The Hit Man can poison one player every night. Because the poison takes time to come into effect, the kill will come into effect as soon as the first vote of the next day is placed. Until the vote is placed, it will not be known if anyone has been targeted by the Hit Man. The Hit Man can be protected from. Sneaky Messenger - The Messenger can dodge one kill attempt on them per game. They can also make a PM with another player every cycle, aside from their free one. Regular - You’re a Regular with no abilities. However you have a higher probability of becoming an Epic. Angry Gang Member - Win condition is to be lynched. If lynched, the Angry Member can choose one player that voted for them and kill them at the end of the next cycle. Gambler - Choose one person during Night Cycle. If that person has an even number of votes by the end of the next cycle it adds one vote. If that person has an odd number of votes it subtracts one vote. Tough Guy - The Tough Guy is able to fight off the pain of death any number of times. But because of the effort this takes, they end up a different person than they started. When the Tough Guy fights off death, he switches gang membership. There is a one-turn time where he is struggling to survive. During that time, the Tough Guy is essentially dead to all the players in the game. If the Tough Guy is killed by either the lynch or a member of the team with the win condition to kill the Tough Guy’s current gang, he does not fight off death, but gives in and dies. He can still be brought back by the Reviver. If a Tough Guy is attacked by the Government Agents, he will die permanently. (Ex: Wilson is an Evanescent Tough Gal. She is attacked by a Blood Tyrant. She goes into Limbo for a turn, where she cannot interact with the game. After that turn, she will come back into the game as part of either the Blood Tyrants or the Neighborhood Watch. She maintains her position in the command structure. Ex 2: Wilson is an Evanescent Tough Gal. She is attacked by a member of the Neighborhood Watch. She dies permanently.) Harmsway - One of the first pieces of Epic tech that has been created. A player with a Harmsway may target another player that is still in Limbo and bring them back from the brink of death once per game. Epics - Epics will appear throughout the game. Any player who becomes an Epic will still keep their original abilities along with any new ones they receive, but only be able to use one ability per turn, unless otherwise stated. Bodyguard - Protect one player from death each night. You may not target the same player two nights in a row. Angry Guard - May protect one player from death each night. When their target is attacked, the Angry Guard will attack the attacker, killing them unless there is other protection, the first time this happens. The second time the Angry Guard protects from a kill attempt, he dies along with the attacker. Watchful Tail: The Tail follows around one player every night turn and watches for Snitches. If a Snitch tries to Snitch on the player being Tailed, the Tail will replace the note with a blank one. Some roles may not be in the game. You gain points(Except for the Banker, who does not earn their own points): 0.5 pt: First post each cycle 1 pt: RP-first time per cycle. 0.25 pt: Subsequent RP in a cycle. 0.5 pt: You have a vote placed at the end of the cycle. 0.5 pt: Using an action. 0.5 pt: Switching location(Getting placed on the Streets doesn’t count) 2 pts: killing or taking part in the lynching of an enemy Epic.(Only the gang linked to your win condition) 3 pts: killing or taking part in the lynching of a Government Agent in your own gang -2 pt: Not posting in the thread for a turn. -2 pts: Killing/Lynching a loyal member of your gang Every turn, players must tell the GMs if they would like to keep their points or donate them to their gang’s Banker. Each gang’s Banker is guaranteed to be a loyal member of that gang. If a player does not inform the GMs, the points will be kept to the player. The Banker is not informed who donated points or how many each donated. The Government Agents do not have their own Bank. The Banker may use the Gang Bank points to: 3 points: Give target player a random role/gang when snitched on for two cycles 4 Points: Learn a random player’s gang membership(not alignment). 5 Points: Create a PM that lasts two cycles. 7 Points: Kill or protect target player (Cannot self-target) 9 points: Scan to see if target is Government Agent Only one point-based ability may be used each Night or Day turn(if used during the day your vote will not count) except for the Banker’s PM ability, which may be used twice in a turn. Any Gang Member can use their points to: 5 points: Learn a random person in your gang 5 points: Create a PM that lasts one cycle. 10 points: Gain protection from one kill attempt that cycle. Every third cycle a heavy rain comes and flushes out the banks. Any points left in the Gangs’ Banks will be destroyed. Player-held points will be kept. Every even numbered cycle, each player will be allowed to create and keep 1 PM with a player of their choice. Locations: Each day turn, players must tell the GMs where in the city they would like to move to for the night. Anyone who does not inform the GMs will end up on the streets and be targetable by anyone(except those on the ferry). You will move at the end of every day. Players may only use their actions on players who are in the same location as them or on the streets. You will only know the people who are in your location. Players on the streets will be revealed in the thread at the start of each cycle. The Pub, Government Building, and Warehouse are on one side of the Williamette River and the Lab, City Hall, and Pool are on the other. Spending a turn on the Ferry is the only way to get to the other side of the River. Certain locations may have special bonuses and drawbacks for Epics. Pub Government Building Abandoned Warehouse ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Ferry~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Underground Laboratory Portland City Hall Pool Streets Here is a Map if you would like a visual version. Room Point-Based Actions Can be done during the day or night, but your vote will not count if during the day, and no other action may be taken at night. You can only do these once per full cycle. Warehouse: In the Warehouse, you may sell on the black market. There is a chance of not selling(20%) and chance of selling for 3(50%) or 4 pts(10%) or losing 3 pts(20%) City Hall: In City Hall, you can attempt to steal any number of points from another target gang bank. There is an X% chance you’re caught and put in jail where X is based on the number of points attempting to be stolen. (Actions for the next cycle will not go through if you are jailed.) People voting during the lynch residing inside the City Hall will count twice. Laboratory: In the Lab, you can create a new science experiment and immediately hand it to your supervisor. It has a 65% chance to explode on impact, immediately kicking you out of the Laboratory and losing you 2 points, 35% chance to become pure gold, making it sellable, earning you 3 points. Government Building: In the Government Building, you can apply for a government job. You will get 2 points without fail. Command Structure The gangs all have their own command structures, but due to the secrecy in the gangs, each member only knows the people who directly report to them. Captains know their Regulars and Commanders know their Captains. The Government Agents do not have this. Example Command Structure: dsCommander Captain sfasdfsdfaCaptain Reg Reg Reg sfsfasdf Reg Reg Reg Write ups:
  10. Irol looked behind him as he hurried down the empty corridor. Something wasn’t right. He was going to find out what. Bulbs of glass on the walls glowed with a blue green light, through the power of Andolesium-Creation. Two lights near the end of the corridor were dim. He had warned them. Now he had to stop it. Irol felt anger well up inside of him. Many would die if he didn’t stop this madness. No one could control the power of creation, no matter how they tried. He told them. And now that power was fading. It needed a jolt. Something to revitalize it. It needed something to fix. What better to for the power of creation to fix, than itself? He threw open a grand looking door, with intricate carvings all over it. Carvings from the beginning of time. Many of the things nearby were from the beginning of time. He walked to the center of the room, where a small vessel sat floating. The consciousness of ages -no, millenniums old- occupied this particular jar. It was nothing too fancy. A simple clay jar, bound by the power of creation. Who is this? He bowed. “I am Irol, Caretaker of Ishtavum. “I would free you.” Free me? That has happened only once before. It was not good for your kind. “I feel your power diminishing, oh great power. I must fix it.” You can fix little human. The sounds resounded through his skull with a pounding, though not a painful one. They were merely powerful, and were accompanied by visions. Visions of things that had happened last time the power had been freed. Irol saw millions of people, dying in the struggle. A struggle between an unseen power, and the power of creation. You are correct. My power grows dimmer each day. Those do not listen to you. But do you really wish to unleash me upon the world? He will come. It is the only time he can defeat me, when I am fragmented. “Great power, what do you mean fragmented?” To fix myself, I must separate, into many different pieces, and repair each one individually. Then, they must be reunited. It will take years before I am completely repaired, perhaps millennia. You must ensure that I will not be taken by the One, and used, turned. Otherwise, time and the universe, will be no more. It is how the world works. “Oh great power, please, tell me. Who is the One?” Irol asked, turning the information around in his head. He had not expected this. He is the One. The only one who could dare defy me. He hates me. You would not be able to know his name, but humans used to call him Odius, The power of destruction. He once was a part of me. Now he takes what he must, and I let him, for I cannot stop him. Only so much can be created at once, but he does not see that if he destroys everything, there will be nothing left for him. All he sees is now. He has not wisdom, nor does he have self-control. “But great one, surely, if your power vanishes-“ Yes little one. Then he will rule anyways. That is why I was repaired so long ago. In ages lost to history, that will never be found by anyone. Hmmmm. I sense someone. They are coming to stop you. You must hurry. Should you attempt to heal me, make sure an order is established, for Odius must not obtain a shard. With it he will attempt to destroy the others, and then he will destroy that one. Should he do that, the world will surely fall. No, the universe. Irol looked behind him, hearing footfalls in the distance. “How do I Start the process?” You already have, The voice rumbled in his head. You need only finish it. Break the vessel. It is that simple. Information came into his head. A gift. Irol sagged, feeling electricity run through him. He felt ice, and fire flowing through him. He felt pain, and peace, He felt imagination. There is another place. Spread these gifts to them. For if Odius comes for them, they will need them. You need only think. Do not stay. For your fears and nightmares will destroy those you give a gift to. “Irol! What are you doing!” Irol whirled around, his eyes glowing with power. “I am saving us, Thordar.” “No!” He scrambled across the room, and grasped Irols shoulders. “You would kill us all!” he screamed. Guards came in behind him. “We will die anyways!” Irol roared. “When the power fails, and Odius comes, We all will die!” “What is this madness? Odius? Right yourself Irol! Or we will lock you in chains, and banish you, to lands never seen!” Thordar yelled. Irols eyes sparked. “Never,” He whispered. He gestured his hand at the vessel, and sent forth a burst of power. The vessel burst into dust. Blue light enveloped them all. A screeching in their heads sounded, making them all fall to the floor. Whisps of red, green, blue, and all the other colors spewed around the room in streams. A huge tearing sounded, and sixteen separate colors separated into different areas of the room, then solidified. Irol wasn’t sure what they solidified into, but they whirled around, and then shot into the sky. “No!” Thordar screamed. “No! You have no Idea the calamity you have caused!” he screeched at Irol. “I have saved us,” Irol said, starting to float in the air. “And I will save them. I will give them the gift. They will fight their fire, with hearts of steel. And they will prevent it. Should creation fall, or should Odius come for them, they will be able to stop him.” One of the guards looked at him. A small wisp of blue light entered into him, as did it to the other guards. Four guards in all. The other guards fell to the ground, dead, as they could not handle the power it was granting. The remaining guard started singing. He sang of a race, between a man and a storm. He sung of cities fallen, of magic failing because of huge canyons torn into the ground. He sang of prophecies, changed to suit needs, and of sisters who saved each other. He sang of all of this in an instant. And collapsed. Irol walked over to the guard, and put a hand on his shoulder. “What is your name, man?” The guard looked at him like he was crazy, blue light in his eyes. When he spoke, his voice was hoarse. “Hoid, My lord.” “Hoid,” He said. “I must leave. You must protect those shards. It is your final duty to creation. In my absence, guard them with your life. Should any try anything, stop them. If you can’t, bid your time until you can. And help the people here. Send them my message.” He nodded. “I will do so, my lord” Irol nodded, and then vanished. He appeared floating in a dark space. He felt very little. And then the hatred came. The fear of everything, the wish to destroy. I seem to have caught you little human. I am Odius. I will rend you in two. “Why!” Irol shouted. “Why would you do this?!” You will not save a single one of them. They are evil, in their hearts. Man does not care for one another. They only wish to destroy. He didn’t believe it. But part of him did. The grip of the hatred left a small scar. He felt Odius start to tear his soul. “No.” He screamed as he let go his power. Odius stopped, then renewed his efforts. He succeeded. But he failed. He merely separated Irol. He took all the good, and the bad, and separated them. Irol used his power. He sent himself into two different realities of the same place. You are calamity, the voice said in his head, as it faded. You are a liar. “No!” Shouted Irol, the one who had no goodness, only his pledge to creation. He would carry it out. But man was evil, and he would not help them. No he would wait, and he would watch, for years, until he found one that wasn’t. You are a liar. “I am not,” He said. “I am not.” You are renamed, Irol. I name you larcener. “No!” Irol screamed. “No, I will show you, I will give it to them!” Irol- Now Larcener- started to glow red. He lifted off the ground, and he unleashed his power. He sent it into many of the men. He made them epic. But he did not leave. He had to see. He had to know if they would stay good or not. He did not know, he had been sent to only twenty or so years before Odious would come down to their world. Were they had things called cars, and guns. Were they would learn to make incredible devices from their dead epics.
  11. Could Megans abilities be utilized to explore a multiverse that possibly includes the cosmere? Is there a limit to how far Megans abilities can go? I'm just spitballing here. thoughts?
  12. The impossible has happened. Steelheart is dead! And with his death many epics have either fled the city or gone into hiding leaving a power vacuum that needs to be filled. In the warrens beneath the city is where you live. You make a living alongside your fellow gang members by scavenging what you can’t intimidate from others. Time has been good to you and your crew. Rival gangs have come and gone while yours has remained strong. Until now that is. With the power vacuum above many of your fellow crewmembers feel it’s time to head to the surface and carve out some of the prime territory for themselves. However a rival gang is also eyeing up the surface for their new headquarters. While they are a small and relatively new gang they are rapidly growing and have even managed to subvert some of your fellow members. The leaders have called together all those they think have been approached by this rival gang and plan to address the situation personally…. Rules: Standard LG Elimination Rules and Etiquette apply. 72 hour cycles (48 day and 24 night) Due to rolling blackouts, mobile phones (PMs) can only be used during the night. Please include the GM in all PMs. Sign ups will last the standard 7 days. Rollover will be at 5pm NZDT / 4am UTC / 9pm MST A new player list will be included at the start of the Day phase. There will NOT be a countdown clock posted by the GM. Deaths will not be distinguishable from each other. Only those that made the kill will know who killed who. Each player can take one action per night unless otherwise stated. It is possible that not all roles are in game. You will not be told if that is the case or which ones are missing. It is also possible that there are hidden roles and/or items. Anyone who doesn’t show activity either by posting in thread or PMs at least every second full cycle will be killed. After all if you’re not helping the gang root out the traitors then you must be one of them, right? The Traitors win once they outnumber the Loyalists. The Loyalists win once the find and kill all Traitors. The Traitors have a Doc to conspire in. Roles: Side Roles: Items: Quick Links:
  13. ...was right after Steelheart. Not in Firefight. Not in Calamity. Right after Steelheart, exemplified in Mitosis. Mitosis spoilers follow. Also a barely structured rant that few will be interested in. The people of Newcago are the oppressed peasant class to end all oppressed peasant classes. They labor day in and day out in factories making goods for their Epic overlords. A lot of them live underground in a place called the catacombs. THE CATACOMBS. However badly your neighborhood sucks, remember that you don't live in a place people call the steel catacombs. So yeah. Aside from the Morlocks that live short brutal lives in the steel sparkin' catacombs, the people on the surface have to live in fear of a random Epic stopping by and murdering them for the crime of being noticed. Or having their building being noticed if Steelheart decides to make a random example out of them. The ones on the surface might as well live underground because the sky is pitch black 24/7. They don't even see stars besides the big bloody bullet hole in the sky that is Calamity. There are a few living in a privileged upper class, that isn't very privileged when it comes to a slontze like Fortuity picking out his victims. A prince among cattle is still classed as cattle. Everyone in this city lives a squalid existence against a black sky and cold grey surroundings. There is no green in their lives. There is no sun. There is only the Epic behind you and the Epic in front of you, and your entire existence is trying not to be noticed between them. These are people who walk with their heads down because looking up gets you killed and there's nothing to look up to anyway. Bottom line? You'd have to fly out of the universe, hit the Cosmere, and head to Scadrial to find another group of people as downtrodden as these poor unfortunate slontzes. But then the Reckoners kill Steelheart. Suddenly the entire class hierarchy of this city comes crashing down around these blokes. Everything changes overnight--oh, and that phrase makes sense for the first time in most of the children's lives. The immortal was slain before them. The insurmountable was made achievable. They see the sun for the first time in a decade. They see their tyrants cast down low and forced to leave town. They see the brutal totalitarian enforcement division turned into a peacekeeping division. They see life as they've never seen it before. Then comes Mitosis. An Epic like any other. A man--sorry, men who cannot be killed. And he comes in making demands, threatening to start slaughtering them like so many Epics like him have done before. And the Reckoners, for all they've been able to accomplish, can't stop him. But what can the Reckoners do? Tell the Newcagoans how to stop him for themselves. Which they do. By singing. They line up by the steel river and sing the worst song in the history of songs, all across the city, melting a High Epic in his glory. The goal of the Reckoners was never just to kill Epics. It was to teach the common people to kill Epics. To be willing to kill Epics the moment the opportunity presents itself. Mitosis demonstrates that they succeeded, with the most unlikely, downtrodden bunch of common people you could possibly imagine. Firefight and Calamity are just icing on the cake. It's Mitosis that proves that the Reckoners could actually win. It's Mitosis that makes for the uplifting epilogue to their mission. It's Mitosis that showcases the Reckoner organization's greatest victory. Sorry for the rant. Someone dissed Mitosis and I felt the urge to vent.
  14. So I drew some Reckoners fanart and would love to upload it to the gallery, but there's no category for the Reckoners unless you count the Steelheart Mega Vault Contest section. Since that seems to have been for a long-since-over contest and the General Art category won't let me upload anything to it, I'm at a loss as to where my drawing should go. I find it hard to believe I'm the first person who's ever wanted to do Reckoners art and share it here, outside of the contest.
  15. Hey everyone! During the Calmaity tour Brandon was handing out some awesome Reckoners postcards. When you view them one way you see the original city but then when you tilt the cards another way you see the Reckoners equivalent. They are super cool. My personal favorite is the one from Calamity, but mostly because of the postcard tagline. Chicago/Newcago New York/Babilar Calamity Spoiler
  16. I don't know if people have already heard about this but during the Calamity signing Brandon mentioned that there is going to be another series in the Reckonerverse that is currently being called “Apocalypse Guard” and it will take place in the alternate reality that Megan see's in Calamity. Its going to be about a team that travels to parallel universes to prevent world-ending events. The release of the first book is currently planned for between Stormlight 3 and 4. I'm super excited for this series!

  18. QF12: The Time of Reckoning there's You live in California. Or you used to. Nowadays it's called Persepolis, named by the Epic who's ruled here since Calamity rose. All things considered, he isn't the worst. Public infrastructure is mostly gone, sure, but killing is frowned upon. A few months later, you woke up with powers yourself. You've pleased Perseus, and have made your way into his service. Perseus has need of all of you, but you would do well to remember: you are replaceable. Every day, Perseus chooses the worst among you, those who have contributed the least, and kills them. Personally. Every day there is a reminder that no one is untouchable. Even Epics. Even you. always You come from somewhere else. You've seen what the Epics do. And you've sworn to execute any who break the law. By a strange coincidence, that is almost all of them. For what they have done, for what they do, for what they will do, there will be a reckoning. And you are bringing it. another Alignments role Roles If you don't contribute in Perseus' Court, you don't live. Any player who does not post in the thread, the GM PM, or another PM in 2 full cycles will be killed by him mercilessly. Notes: The only means of PMs is Telepathy. No other PMs are allowed. The write-up will include all kill attempts. Only dead players will be named in the write-up. There may be hints in write-ups, but it is not a good idea to read too much into wording. The number of Telepathy PMs will change depending on how many people sign up. It will be edited into the rules once the game starts. Order of Actions: 1. Perseus' Kill 2. Passive Powers 3. Transmogrification 4. Illusions 5. Votes Counted and Lynch 6. Forcefields 7. Matter Disruption and Reckoner Kill 8. Invisibililty Quick Links:
  19. I cannot believe it but Calamity is being released in three days... With The Bands of Mourning being released so recently it has kind of snuck up on us. Brandon and co. however, in an effort to give Calamity it's due hype, have created some awesome "swag" for those who pre-order a copy of the book from certain bookstores, a list of which can be found here on Brandon's website. The goodies include a 12-page mini comic adaptation of Mitosis, punch-out cards for David, Megan, and Prof (similar to the ones done for Words of Radiance and Firefight), and a set of pins. On top of that any book that comes with this bundle will be signed. Do be sure to check with each store as there is a limited number of these bundles and each store has a different policy (some will do online orders, others only in-store purchases). Unfortunately the Wellers Book Works pre-order is already sold out. They only sold a limited number of copies (250) and they sold out incredibly quickly. In other news the first volume of the White Sand graphic novel is up for pre-order on Amazon.com (as well as BarnesandNoble.com and BooksaMillion.com, so check your personal vendor-of-choice). It is currently listed with a release date of June 21st. Which, since that is also listed as the release date in the Current Projects ticker on Brandon's site, we can trust. (On a side note the White Sand proofread is currently sitting at 90%!) They also posted a blurb: As someone who has read the prose version, I really can't wait to see what they've done with it. Amazon has also put the cosmere short story collection up for pre-order. The title is "Arcanum Unbounded: The Cosmere Collection" and is given a release of November 8th of this year. They've also posted the cover art for the Tor re-release of The Knights of Crystallia, which looks great:

  21. EDIT: THIS IS A JOKE THEORY, JUST MADE FOR MY HUMOR! RECKONERS IS NOT COSMERE IN ANY WAY! What if Kelsier is Calamity? Facts 1. Sazed has an extra bit of Ruin. 2. Brandon has been very sly about where this extra bit of Ruin is, and what is doing. 3. The 17th Shard has largely assumed that this extra bit of Ruin has gone to Kelsier. 4. Brandon has also been evasive about Kelsier's whereabouts, repeatedly referring to him being in a dimension unlike what we've seen before. 5. In Shadows of Self, Sazed (also known as Harmony) makes a comment about Kelsier: AssumptionsA. The Reckoners' version of Earth is in the same Universe as the Cosmere planet systems. Further, I would be interested to know if they are in the same dimension, but that would mostly irrelevant to the endpoint of my theory. B. #5 implies that Kelsier is gone from Sazed, or at least removed enough that they are not in direct contact. The Theory Sazed gives Kelsier the extra bit of Ruin. We know that Shardic levels of power give some level of knowledge about the universe beyond simply the physical. So Kelsier somehow does interdimensional travel to Earth. Alternatively, he could have used normal travel, albeit at speeds much greater than light (and this really depends on whether or not the two series are in the same dimension of the universe or not, but as I said earlier, this does not matter hugely to my theory). Keep in mind that even though Kelsier only has a small portion of Ruin's power, Ruin will still be corrupting (<-- interesting word choice, hmm?) him. So Kelsier will have to find some middle ground between being a hero and wanting to Ruin. When Kelsier reaches Earth, he visibly sets up shop as a red star thing (Note that red is a commonly accepted for evil, or ruin, among other things). Of course, as we already know, his influence is directly felt on earth. Since Kelsier/Calamity has come from an utterly different culture, he doesn't fully understand the governmental systems of the different nations, and resolves to fix them as quickly as possible. What better way to do this than mutating certain people on Earth, and giving them powers that corrupt them, and enable them to take over. This is precisely within Ruin's Intent. Of course, Kelsier is ultimately being tricked by Ruin. Kelsier believes that by empowering the people to take down the government, he is improving their chances of ultimately surviving, because that's what he did, in his previous life. Unfortunately, Ruin's insidious influence is blinding him to the fact that really, the Epics are only encouraging the breakdown of society, and the more they use their powers, the more corrupt and Ruinous they become. That's pretty much the theory. I think it fits with what we know now about the Reckoners/Cosmere. I could speculate about what will happen in Calamity, but I'm sure Brandon will surprise us all anyway. Possible Objections Why didn't Kelsier/Calamity give everyone powers, and not just a few people? Not sure. Isn't a bit far-fetched/too-early to speculate on this, since we don't know what the next books in the respective series will hold in terms of plot details? I don't think it's ever too early to make a theory. Questions I plan to make a list of questions to flesh out my theory a little more, and if I could get some help asking these (Brandon rarely comes to my area), that would bebutterly fantasmic. I'll try to be as specific as possible to avoid the possibility of RAFOs. 1. Is Kelsier Calamity? (Quite direct, and would probably get RAFOd, but 'ey, it's worth a try.) 2. Does Calamity have some Shardic Influence (Note that this has previously been answered as "No" when asked if Calamity is a Shard. Under my theory, Calamity is some of the power of a Shard, not a full Shard. Pretty sneaky, Sanderson!) 3. Is the Reckoner!Earth in the same narrative universe/dimension as he Cosmere? 4. Have we seen Calamity in another series? Again, any and all help in asking these questions would be much appreciated. I think that for right now, we have a high chance of being RAFOd, because honestly, I don't think this connection has been noticed by a lot of people. So consistency and determination will be key. Thanks all for reading.
  22. So i always love seeing what song people associate with the characters so if you have some in mind please post them. Listening to the radio yesterday and I heard Kryptonite by 3 Doors Down and i thing it fits Prof pretty well
  23. Earlier this week we reported about a change in policy with regards to release parties at BYU. Specifically they are instituting a new "digital line", which was just posted. You can sign up here. One important note, if you want to be entered into the raffle for a number between 1-100 you must sign up within the first 24 hours (i.e. between Friday at noon and Saturday at noon, Mountain time). This form is also the place where you can sign up to volunteer, if you wish to do so. In other news it appears that Steelheart is getting a new hardcover release. As we know Steelheart received new US cover art when it got released in paperback, the covers for Firefight and Calamity then continued in the new style. This new release is a hardcover of Steelheart with the "new" paperback design. This means that hardcover owners now have an opportunity to have a matching set. According to Peter this is not an actual reprinting but rather "a rejacketing of warehouse copies of the first printing hardcover". Check out our forum topics here to discuss the digital line, and here the new Steelheart release!

  25. Hey guys! Finished Steelheart a few weeks ago, and one question has been burning: How would you checkmate the most powerful epic in the story? How would you kill Prof? With his combination of powers, I would rank him as a High Epic based on his defensive powers alone. He was able to heal from a skull-crush, and has damage resistance (shields) on top of that. His offensive powers aren't directly damaging to organics, but we've seen what he can do to tech-based enemies, and can also kill/maim using his tensor ability to create badass swords and knives. As I think about it, I would lure him out of Newcago. The all-steel environment is a tensor playground. If I could get him to an organic environment like a field or somewhere heavy in vegetation, that would negate his tensor ability (he would still carry weapons into the fight, but would lose that unpredictability factor). The big question is overcoming his healing/shielding abilities. How do you stop that? Burn his corpse while immobilised? You wouldn't be able to restrain him indefinitely - tensor powers would bust him out of any prison before long. Also, does anything from the story stand out regarding a potential weakness? Gifters aren't noted as having any particular weaknesses, and I can't think of any point in the story where Prof stumbles or isn't laying total waste to everything around him.
