  1. What is your favorite weapon for a Spren to transform into?
  2. Inspired by the discussion on Discord!
  3. Let’s finish this once and for all, what is the best Twinborn Compounder?
  4. Who do you guys think should take the forefront/backstory in book four of the Stormlight Archive?
  5. I want to know how everyone feels about this, please give your reasoning. The things I can see from starting at the beginning are, having the continuous story, but longer read time. Starting at the first interludes, you finish faster, but may miss something. Although I feel like that will be mitigated by the discussions on the chapters on this board.
  6. I think Rysn is on her way to becoming a Knight Radiant. I think this is why the Larkin chose her. I think her adventurous nature and ironically her Bbasks teachings about respecting and understanding other cultures, embracing novelty and oddity will lead here to become a Willshaper. She has shown Resolve and I think the Willshapers were the Radiants who built trust amongst different cultures and settled disputes. Any other thoughts on which order if any she wil become?
  7. I have been thinking about this for a long time. Death Battles (preferably without death) but with Sanderson creations. Heck maybe we should do stuff like Lord Ruler versus Batman (We know who would win). So this is how this will work. When you see this thread, pick whoever came to mind first. And then reply to this with reasons to support your decision. Please be as unbiased as possible. Don't pick Kelsier and Vin just because you like them better, or the Thunderclast cos you think it's more badass. After a couple of days, one everyone has chosen and made their arguments, I will post a short story depicting what happened with a tryhard reason for why Kelsier and Vin are fighting a Thunderclast. P.S these battles aren't chronologically part of their respective series, they are like a "What if?" thing.
  8. So Brandon has announced a new way of getting the numbered edition of his new books personalized! Now, rather than just requesting the personalization when ordering the numbered copy, you pay more, but the leftover money all goes to charity (source). Does this bother you, particularly since any one wanting to ask a question has to pay the highest price ($28 for book, $20 donation)? I don't generally buy these numbered copies to begin with as I'd rather support by local bookstore, and getting my copies signed in an actual signing was far more fulfilling and memorable than having them arrive in the mail (still mad I didn't take Shadows Beneath to be signed a second time so that one of them was in person). But I know some people really like having the numbered copies, and was interested in the community's opinion on the matter.
  9. I feel this is a poll much needed in our lives. Because while bowties are cool, they are clearly inferior to cravats.
  10. I'm sure there is already a poll of this somewhere else on the forum, but I've been unable to find it. So, I'm starting a new one. Wherever the old one is, can someone point it out to me if I see it? A few notes. 1) I'm sure there is already a poll of this somewhere else on the forum, but I've been unable to find it. So, I'm starting a new one. Wherever the old one is, can someone point it out to me if I see it? 2) PLEASE DO NOT VOTE UNLESS YOU HAVE READ AT LEAST TWO OF BRANDONS SERIES. This isn't a poll for how many people have read a series, it's about what your favourite is. And you can't say "I prefer the Stormlight Archive", unless you've actually read Mistborn. 3) I've split up Mistborn Alloy Era and Mistborn Original Trilogy, because I've found them to be quite different. 4) I'm not placing WoT on this poll, because I still consider it, fundamentally, to be a Robert Jordan series. 5) I trust you guys more than this point might imply. But please, no offending anyone else or getting overheated in this. Otherwise the poll would have to be locked, and that's no fun. P.S. Ye Olde Mistborn Series will triumph, all ye non-believers!
  11. The God Beyond is an entity that is worshiped on multiple shardworlds. Here is a coppermind page about it. In the spirit of covering my bases, here are some other things it could be: The God Beyond is a planet. The God Beyond is an entity in the cognitive realm, formed by the collective hopes of humanity across the cosmere. The God Beyond is a character who is weak now, but later becomes powerful and travels back in time. The God Beyond is the ugly lizard crab thing. The God Beyond is Brandon Sanderson himself. The God Beyond is Peter's sideburns. The God Beyond is Calamity. The God Beyond actually doesn't exist. It's just a coincidence. The God Beyond is the physical embodiment of Kobold King's rep. The God Beyond is a spaceship full of dragons. The God Beyond is Bela.
  12. Mine would be Abraham, because of his philosophy, and his idealism.
  13. Pretty simple. Which is your favorite super hero universe? The Arrow, The flash, Batman etc.? Iron Man, Captain America, etc?
  14. Okay, guys, I need your help with something. I'm about finished with Way of Kings, and while I know I'm going to read Words of Radiance, I have a problem: You. No, no, I didn't mean it like that! Please stop crying! I love you guys! Not in a creepy way or….anything…. I'm not helping, am I? Sigh. Let me start over. I'm almost finished with Way of Kings, and I'm loving it. I know I'll read the sequel. However, this forum has a lot of fans. And a lot of fans means a lot of people who read the same books, and a lot of people who read the same books means a lot of people who talk about the same books. While browsing the forums—even carefully avoiding spoiler topics—I come across people talking about things. Things like Stick, and a Dor, and Wax and Wayne and everything that happens after the last original Mistborn book. And frankly, I'm stinkin' curious. So! Vote in the poll and tell me what mysteries I should unravel next! Do I read Words of Radiance and learn about this stranger called Stick? Do I read Elantris and learn what a Dor is and why a door is too cool for a second O? Or do I finally stop lazing around and finish the original Mistborn trilogy so I can find out who the heck Wax and Wayne are? Vote! Let your voice be heard! I believe in you!
  15. I just wanted to see what people would say about feruchemy after seeing Curiosities thread on mistings.
  16. Brandon said recently that he's now undecided as to who the flashback character for Stormlight 3 will be. Remember that he previously said it will be Szeth. He even had a title in mind, "Stones Unhallowed", though he did say it wasn't final. "Skybreaker" was also a possible title for Stormlight 3, in reference to Szeth's new role as a follower of Nalan. But now that Szeth being the main POV is no longer a sure thing, I've decided to create a poll, just for fun, to see who you guys think the main character should be.To help you decide, here's what I think will most likely happen to Szeth, Dalinar, and Eshonai in Stormlight 3, and how these things relate to the past (in other words, what their flashback scenes might be): Szeth Szeth+Nightblood will kick major shin. Szeth's beliefs, and how his religious leaders betrayed him in the past, will definitely color his interaction with Nightblood. It will be interesting to see the development of his views on what "evil" is. Nalan will show Szeth what it is to be a Skybreaker in modern Roshar. If Szeth accepts the role of being a Knight under the Herald, this will signal a conflict with Taravangian, his previous master. If Szeth no longer feels any obligation to follow the holder of his Oathstone, he might actually kill Taravangian for his crimes (this was predicted as a possibility in the Diagram). A flashback scene in Szeth's POV, depicting the start of his Oathstone-based servitude, would serve as a nice contrast to his showdown with Mr. T. Szeth will return to Shinovar with the intent of vengeance for being wrongfully made Truthless. If Stormlight 3 is going to be his, then the circumstances leading to his becoming Truthless should be part of the flashback sequences. DalinarDalinar will resume his mission to unite the Knights Radiant to fight the Desolation. He will have to unite people from different countries, many of whom might not be willing to follow an Alethi Highprince. Dalinar was in a similar position before when he and his brother Gavilar were trying to unite Alethkar. It will be nice to see how Dalinar the Bondsmith might handle this problem differently from Dalinar the Blackthorn. Kaladin's Squires, knowing that their leader is a Knight Radiant who is therefore higher than any normal lighteyes, might start doubting Dalinar's authority over them, especially if Dalinar commands them to do something they think Kaladin might not like. Remember that Kaladin's Squires can use Stormlight, so Dalinar's status as Knight might mean little to them, especially now that he has no Shardblade. Again, the current Dalinar would probably handle this differently from Blackthorn. At least, I hope so. EshonaiIf Eshonai is still alive, then she will probably continue her struggle with the voidspren controlling her. There might still be a chance that she will break free from Odium's grasp (I'd hope so, or she'd just be another Marsh). Her flashbacks would focus on her dreams of traveling as a youth, and the her feelings of being trapped by her people's isolation from the world, which led her to set out on the expedition that would expose her people to the Alethi. If Eshonai is dead (or presumed dead for most of the book), then the focus will be on how Rlain and any remaining (non-Voidish) Listeners will escape being transformed by the Everstorm. Rlain's bond to Kaladin might be helpful here. If they decide to fight in the Desolation, then they will go against people of their own race, people now controlled by Odium. The flashbacks would probably depict the various discussions Eshonai and the other Parshendi leaders had with regards to their hated gods and the Alethi threat, perhaps revealing a secret contingency plan that might save the world even when their gods do return. ***Myself, I vote Eshonai. She may not be the most interesting Stormlight character in my opinion, but that's only because we haven't really seen much of her. She was barely in Way of Kings. And in Words of Radiance she was, frankly, kind of pathetic, being mostly a tool for Venli's ambitions. I fear that if Stormlight 3 doesn't make her more interesting, she'd be wasted as a character. That's why I hope she'll get the flashback sequences.
  17. So, I realize side series/story might not be the best name for this sense they all probably play an important part in some capacity overall even if it's just behind the scenes. But what I mean is that Brandon has never been shy in saying that the "Main Sequence" of the Cosmere constitutes Mistborn, The Stormlight Archive and Dragonsteel. There his Babies, the Big Three, the Headliners, the Golden Trio, the Three Amigos, the Breadwinners, the reason you probably bought the tickets. They alone will consist of up to AT LEAST 26 books between the three. (13 Mist, 10 SA and 3-5 DS) and make up the majority of the Cosmere's overall content. Sense there the most important also, they are the one's we can be most assured to get and the one's who will receive the most attention to overall. So what I'm asking is what are you most looking forward to among the rest, outside the Big Three and why? Who among there smaller cousins are you most excited for? Me personally? Elantris Sequels: I am mostly looking forward to learning more about Wyrn and maybe what happened to Dominion and Devotion. Nightblood: Might be what I'm most excited for overall. Can't wait to see more of Vasher, Vivi and Nightblood and also maybe what happened to separate them. White Sand: Probably what I'm most excited for right now, if only because we know it's coming out relatively soon in either this year or next and it'll be the first new major Shard world opened to us sense we came to Roshar in 2010. Dark One: The concept sounds super interesting as does the world and Brandon's YA so far has been just top notch. The Silence Divine: It's on the lower end of the list but that could easily change when I read it like it did with Emperor's Soul Skyward: I just don't know enough about it to really get excited yet. (Or if it even still exists) Also really curious about the two unnamed one's but that's a long way off. Anyway, What about you guys?
  18. Since there's a poll about who Shallan will end up with, I did the same for Kaladin
  19. Avela and I will be making an alliance on Goodgame Empire, and we want it to be Brandon related. (If the Mods think this should be in Entertainment Discussion, feel free to move it.)
  20. So recently I was wondering to myself what Brandon's best opening lines and closing lines were, and I looked around to see if there was a topic on it. Not finding one with the search function (sorry if it does already exist), I decided to make it myself! I made a thread in the General Discussion forum for favorite opening/closing lines in general. There is obviously some room for interpretation of what is the opening/closing line of some of Brandon's books. I haven't read his short fiction, but in some of the novels there are ways to interpret the opening/closing line. For example, the Prelude to the Stormlight Archive in The Way of Kings could count as having the first line, but you could argue that it is the opening line of the series and not just that book. You could then say that the first line of the Prologue is the first line, but the Prologue has an epigraph, so that could also be the first line. Same for the epigraphs in Mistborn, and you could go with either the Prologue or first chapter of any other book. So just choose whichever one you want and click the book it is from in the Poll. Please put a spoiler tag on a closing line if you post one. I hate reading the last line of a book before I get to it. Maybe it's just me, but have some respect. The opening line is more up to your discretion, as some may spoil previous books in a series, some may not. My favorite opening is the that of the prologue in The Way of Kings: "Szeth-son-son-Vallano, Truthless of Shinovar, wore white on the day he was to kill a king." It really draws me in every time I read it. It has so much mystery to it. Perfect. My favorite closing line is also that of The Way of Kings: Note: I have only included works of novella length or greater because of restraints on the number of options per question.
