  1. I'm late to this topic, but I was shocked at the sheer stupidity of Navani in Rhythm of War. When I search threads and posts from before, I see people saying that she engaged in a careful battle against Raboniel. This doesn't make sense to me. She gives Raboniel everything she wants and more, despite Raboniel making it blindingly obvious that she is going to use Navani's results to destroy humanity. What did she think would happen if she came up with what she thought was a weapon capable of killing gods while she knows Raboniel is carefully watching her every move? Couldn't she have just kept her revelation of using math to invert sound to to herself until she was safe (or dead, but still better to keep the secret that she knows is incredibly powerful out of the hands of the enemy)? Raboniel immediately broke her promise to leave the Tower after Navani first produced Warlight, but for some reason Navani is still motivated by her empty promise of "ending the war together" and simply hands over her extremely detailed notes right away. She even goes through all the effort of setting up traps in the hallway, but couldn't set one up to destroy the notebook. She wasn't even under any immediate threat. Raboniel makes it clear that she's happy to leave Navani safely alone because she thinks that her question was answered already with the first experiment. Raboniel isn't even harming any humans at the moment and all of Navani's family is safe. There's no reason to do what she did aside from making Navani feel like a cool scholar. This honestly ruined what up until then was a very enjoyable book for me, and felt like a very juvenile attempt to make the enemy more powerful before the climax.
  2. Interesting connections with the garnet gem: both the Sibling's strata and spanreeds are garnet, and both are used for communication. What other gems have more specialized purposes?
  3. We know Dalinar first wanted to "Unite them", that is, all of Roshar. Now, as a Radiant Bondsmith, he is determined to reinstate the Oathpact. For Navani, given that she is fast learning how to attune rhythms, will she be the key to uniting singers and humans in Book 5?
  4. Okay, so I had this idea after reading RoW. It's a little out there, but I was thinking it might be a way for invested people on Roshar to travel off world. Thanks to Navani's experiments, we know that stormlight and voidlight are connected to the tones of Honor and Odium, respectfully. Almost certainly the same of lifelight and Cultivation. I wonder if it's possible to transmit that in some way long distance, like a radio. Now, I don't that radios don't actually transmit the sound itself. The sound is encoded into radio waves that can be received and translated back into sound on the other side. Maybe if two gemstones were conjoined like span reeds, then a constant source of stormlight could be transmitted. Or maybe gemstones cut in a certain way could receive the tone sent out by a large gemstone transmitter or something, like car radios receiving a signal from a radio tower. Such a thing would need to be limited, only so much stormlight could flow through at a time, but a constant stream of stormlight could maybe act as an anchor to Roshar. Kind of an out there theory, like I said, but it could be a way to get stormlight, and possibly radiants, off of Roshar.
  5. I’ve been thinking about Adolin’s time in Lasting Integrity, and how he says that he doesn’t think Radiants force bonds. It reminded me of how people were saying Navani and the Sibling shouldn’t have bonded, because Navani “forced” the Sibling to bond her. (Ok, don’t come for me. I put it in quotations because it’s an opinion, idk. Regardless, this hasn’t happened yet in the book.) That in turn made me think of Dalinar bonding the Stormfather at the end of WoR. You know, when he says this: Even though the Stormfather eventually agrees, I was surprised that the honorspren didn’t bring this scenario up at the trial. It’s the perfect piece of evidence—it shows that Dalinar was trying to kind of force a bond, and that the Stormfather believed that if he were to be bound that he would be killed, and so resisted. So why didn’t they bring this up? I suppose they might not have known about it, but they seem to know a lot. They only talk about Dalinar almost breaking his bond, however. What do you guys think?
  6. I heard Skullcrusher Mountain by Jonathan Coulton the other day and thought, wow, that would really work for Raboniel, and here we are The song is attached. Here are the lyrics, written by myself and Priscellie. I hope you enjoy! Urithiru Tower 2023.mp3 Urithiru Tower So this is your secret lair in Urithiru Tower I hope that you've enjoyed our stay so far I see you’ve met my daughter Essu Her behaviour is quite disturbing But I assure you she’s harmless enough She’s insane, calls for her mommy, And she has a way of learning human songs And humming them to me I’m so into you But I’m way too smart for you Even my Regals think I’m crazy I’m not surprised that you agree If you could find some way to be A little bit less afraid of me You’d see that Odium’s dominion Isn’t total, ‘cause I’m not gonna kill you yet I called this secret weapons plan pure research to please you But I get the feeling that you don’t like it What’s with all the scheming? You like secrets, you like research, Maybe you don’t like carnage so much Maybe I killed too many humans Isn’t it enough to know that I’m willing to share My Towerlight with you? I’m so into you But I’m way too tall for you Even my Regals think I’m crazy I’m not surprised that you agree If you could find some way to be A little bit less afraid of me You’d see that Odium’s dominion Isn’t total, ‘cause I’m not gonna kill you yet Picture the two of us alone inside a room where we can sing While out across Roshar our music causes Worldwide genocide And whether singers win, or humans I don’t care Let’s just end it But it wouldn’t mean quite as much to me to have to watch you die You know it isn’t easy occupying Urithiru Tower So maybe you could cut me just a little slack Would it kill you to stay in this room? I’ve been lovely, I’ve been gracious And this Tower is full of Fused Odium is losing patience Baby you should stay and be my Voice of Lights And sing the Rhythm of War with me I’m so into you But I’m way too old for you Even my Regals think I’m crazy I’m not surprised that you agree If you could find some way to be A little bit less afraid of me You’d see that - oh, a Voidlight dagger How delightful, dear, that You’re gonna kill me dead Really completely dead I can feel it, I’m dead
  7. My brother and I were contemplating different theories for the Cosmere, two steps away from donning full tinfoil hats when he said something that I hadn't thought about. We were discussing Navani and what's next for her, trying to think about things that were repeated throughout RoW. A problem that Navani has is that she isn't a singer, so she has to really work at getting the correct pitch with Raboniel. Right before this, we had discussed Zahel and how Brandon had mentioned that he will get to what Zahel was doing - prompting me to ask the question "But why is Zahel is Roshar of all places, from a literary standpoint?" ... then he said it - Is the endgame for Zahel to, one way or another, end up giving Navani his breaths - thus enabling her to obtain perfect pitch? Sorry if that has been mentioned before, it was an "OH GOD" moment for me, and wonder if anyone else has anything to add to supplement, or debunk, this theory. Thanks!
  8. We have seen some of best moments in Cosmere, and some which disappointed us in Rhythm of War. We have our favorite moments from our characters and then there are those moments which have gutted our souls out. I created this thread so that we can share our sorrows (and joyful tears) and divide them among ourselves, discuss what broke our hearts in ways tears started to spill from our eyes. I'll start by stating the moments which wrecked me apart: Do share yours, our Rhythm of Melancholy.
  9. This isn't a theory discussion thing, because I don't really think my theory is right. I want to hear other solutions too Ok, the one thing that I completely didn't expect from ROW is the siblings distaste towards fabrials and just how much time was devoted to it. This is a situation that when I was reading the book, I had absolutely no idea how to resolve it, and I still don't. Fabrials are getting more and more important to overall story of SA and the cosmere. The desolation is causing pressure on Roshar on developing technologically. This will be helpful for the later space age cosmere in the future. When I saw the epigraphs of ROW, I was sure that I knew where this was going, that this is the seeds from which they will have fabrial computers and stuff in the future. And then the book slaps the reader in the face with a core problem with making fabrials in the first place. The spren get trapped and the sibling does not like it. So what's Navani's solution? How can she keep having fabrials without trapping spren?I can think of three things 1) That spren will be asked to manifest into the physical realm and make new fabrials. This is how the sibling does it. Also this is how soulcasters are supposed to work, navani sees some spren sleeping in the CR side of a soulcaster. This is how the ancient fabrials seemed to work( during knights radiant days). But how does this work tho? Which spren will be asked? What about all the other spren that you need to use for specific effects(like flamespren, painspren), where do they come in? So many questions 2) Fabrials were based on the gemhearts of the singers and the greatshells and others. Are the spren they use trapped inside the living beings? Do luckspren live inside a chasmfiend? If so , I really have no idea why the sibling takes so much offense to their imprisonment, since that clearly already happens in the normal, natural cycle in this planet. If they are not trapped in gemhearts then, what does that bond actually look like? Are gemhearts only for storing stormlight all this time? 3)My theory: The process will be like awakening. They will take a core physical seed, ( like an empty gemstone wrapped in a metal cage), then pump this object with stormlight, talk with the cognitive aspect of the object, then command it to manifest in the investiture it has into specific fabrials. I like this also because you are creating specific spren for your specific needs and then commanding it to perform a certain function. Rather than having potentially sentient computers, which I think is silly. What do u guys think navani's solution will be?
  10. Now that Navani and Dalinar are bonded to the Sibling and the Stormfather respectively, are they the most powerful couple ever to live on Roshar? Unless two of the Heralds were married to each other or two previous bondsmiths, I think they probably are. Also, I find it fitting that two bondsmiths are bonded to each other.
  12. So, just a quick little question for fun: What d&d (5e) classes would each main character in Stormlight be, and what level ?
  13. Something that's been bothering me since I read RoW was how the Sibling treated Dabid. We never actually witness their conversations, but Dabid was acting under the impression that he was doing what he/she wanted in order to bond with the Sibling. Does this bother anyone else? The Sibling claims that he/she is done bonding with humans throughout RoW, and appears to bond Navani at the end mostly out of necessity. But Dabid thought that the Sibling was going to bond him, even though he/she hadn't specifically said so. It's possible that Dabid simply made the assumption that the Sibling intended to bond him, but it seems likely to me that the Sibling probably chose Dabid to act for him/her for that exact reason. It feels like the Sibling took advantage of Dabid. During their conversations in RoW, the sibling complains repeatedly that humans are "so good with words", calling them manipulative. But isn't what the Sibling did with Dabid extremely manipulative too? Stating that Dabid was injured when he was a baby and that's why he is the way he is and saying that a spren bond would heal him, strongly implying that the Sibling would bond him? Obviously the Sibling is angry with humans, both for the Recreance (out of ignorance) and for the imprisoning of spren in fibrials, and that's understandable. However, he/she also seems to think less of humans for being "so good with words", despite being willing to be manipulative too.
  14. Navani has bonded The Sibling. What do you think her ideals will be? Knowing Dalinar's ideals "I will unite instead of divide. I will bring men together" and "will take responsibility for what I have done. If I must fall, I will rise each time a better man. " We can know That her oaths will also follow uninification but with the personal twist ,so maybe it'll be uniting the people of The Tower or maybe smaller groups, like how she unites a group of scholars. Something about being an intellectual leader for sure. Also for her third ideal maybe recognizing the damage her light/Anti-light advancements have/will cause to spren. so something like "will take responsibility for what my discoveries can do...."
  15. So it’s been about a year I think since I’ve last posted on here but I’m back with some more custom action figures. Today I have three based on Mistborn and one new stormlight custom. Starting off with Mistborn we have Sazed. He is almost completely repainted from the base figure, the bands and earrings are sculpted on. I would like to find him some glasses but haven’t found any that work yet. I’m pretty happy with how he turned out. My one gripe is that I wish I had chosen brighter colors for his robe. Next we have Marsh (or just a steal inquisitor, I haven’t decided if I want it to actually be Marsh yet). Marsh Steel Inquisitor probably has the most creative process for a custom figure that I’ve ever done. I decided to try to actually drive nails through the figure and it surprisingly worked. I wasn’t sure if it would ruin the base body or mess up the articulation and I’m very happy that it didn’t. The only place where it varies is with the shoulders where I cut the nail and drilled a small divot on the front and back of the shoulder and glued the nails in. If I had tried stabbing the nails through the shoulders, it would’ve ruined the articulation. I do wish I had been a little more careful with the markings around the eyes because they look a little messy but overall I’m very proud of this one. To wrap up the Mistborn customs is Spook. He is probably my favorite of these three Mistborn customs. This is his look from the third book. The body is completely repainted and the cape is some fabric I cut and then burned a bit. His clothing is also supposed to have a singed look. Very happy with this one. Now to the sole Stormlight custom, Navani Kholin! Navani is probably one of the hardest ones I’ve made so far. Her Havah was hand sewn by me and honestly for my first time sewing I think it turned out nicely. Her head was completely repainted by me and I’m really happy with how well the face tone matches the rest of the body as the head was taken from a different figure. This was originally going to be Jasnah but I figured since I couldn’t find a head that fit Jasnah and that she would probably have a dress that allowed for more movement (being a Radiant) Id just make this one Navani. Super happy with this one and since this technique with the dress worked, I’ll probably redo shallan in the same way as I’ve never been very happy with how the first one turned out. thanks for checking out my work! Currently working on a Dalinar and Kaladin (finally) as I found the perfect bodies for them. They should be posted hopefully in December January. I also have ideas for a Breeze, Elend and like I mentioned before Jasnah
  16. Engineering and fabrial science are her skill, her joy; the Vorins would say it was her Calling. And now she's bonded to the Spren Liberation Activist. What is she supposed to do now? Give up her life's passion to please the Sibling? Keep on fabrialing and basically spit in the face of her spren's principles? I am having trouble seeing a viable path forward here.
  17. I'm surprised that there isn't already a thread by this name. After Rhythm of War, Navani skyrocketed to the top of my list of favorite characters, both in SA and in the Cosmere at large. So here's a thread for all those that feel the same way I do. Time to fangirl over Roshar's favorite Scholar-Queen! [I'll probably contribute a post or two about why exactly I love Navani, but I think I'll keep the OP free of the details for now.]
  18. I been thinking that since is very probably that Adolin is going to be able to revive Maya, I kind of think that somehow Navani is going to do the same with The Sibling in the tower, and she is going to become the second Bondsmith. I think that the high focus we are getting from her PoV, and how persistent she is being about finding out the secrets of the tower is building up to this. What do u guys think about this?
  19. After reading Dawnshard and seeing Nikli refer to Navani as "Mother of Machines", my theory on the origin of the threat towards Navani in chapter 9 is that one of the Sleepless has had enough of Navani making progress with fabrials and now tries to stop her. It would have been easy for a hordeling to enter the Fourth Bridge and deposit the spanreed ruby there without anyone noticing, especially since there are hordelings that are able to fly Whether it would be a rogue Sleepless like Arclomedarian or one aligned with Yelamaiszin, the First, remains unclear to me. Edit: Well, this theory of mine can be flushed down. Issue is answered in RoW.
  20. I have not been monitoring the threads in Oathbringer, so I don't know if anyone else already proposed this theory, but I hope not. I have been looking more into what order of Knights Radiance Navani would become if she bonded a spren. She constantly says, "I will bring order from chaos" in Oathbringer, and she loves taking things apart. These are both key indicators that Navani will become a Dustbringer. Thoughts? Countertheories?
  21. This is my first post, so please go easy on me as this is a bit of a disjointed theory. Speaking with a friend while reading through Oathbringer, we were talking about what might be the other 2 Bondsmith Spren. I think everyone assumes the Nighwatcher is the 2nd. The "one that slumbers", I don't think is a crazy stretch to assume is possibly a spren somewhat entangled with Uruthiru. If honor and cultivation are responsible for half of the surges on the Surgebinding chart, how is the 3rd Bondsmith spren connected to the magic system? My thought is that the 3rd spren, Uruthiru's spren, is connected to the ancient fabrials. In a similar way that Shardblades and Shardplate are bastardizations of what was originally wielded by Surgebinders, I believe modern fabrials apply a misunderstanding of the original fabrials. Where Shardblades are dead spren, the fabrials trap or enslave spren to perform a function. Bringing this all together, I believe Navani starts to make some discoveries when it comes to fabrials, and eventually bonds with the spren of Uruthiru. She will come to be horrified about how modern fabrials have enslaved spren. I'm not a big fan of the possibility of all the Kholins becoming surgebinders, but this just seems to straight forward.
  22. Still wishing we had some more Brandon Sanderson books to read instead of watching the horrific collapse of our country. Though this week I'd settle for a statement about racism and injustice. I agree with NattyBo's post about silence. I do think, however, that Brandon communicates best in his books. This week I reread the way of kings chapter Justice, one of my favorite moments. Navani walks up to Sadeas paints the ketek Justice on the ground, says a prayer, and lights it on fire. Maybe don't actually do that. However, you choose to seek justice, be safe, be strong, and stand united. Also, check out my other Blackmail Theories, Hoid's Holiday and Lift's Gifts. Blackmail Theory: Seducing Sadeas Sadeas is treacherous, conniving, power hungry and ruthless in the best way. He is also surprisingly loyal. He is loyal to Gavilar all through the unification war. He is loyal to Elhokar for six years on the shattered plains. Sadeas and Gavilar took a lot of risks, fought duels, waged war. Gavilar got shards, lands, a kingdom and a crown. What did Sadeas get? Does anyone think his goal was to have a good king for Alethkar? My theory is that he wasn't loyal to Gavilar. He was loyal to Navani. By loyal of course I mean getting all up in her sleave. Turn on your Shaggy sound tracks now. "Dalinar Kholin is mine, and I am his. (Navani) YOU HAVE BROKEN OATHS BEFORE. (Stormfather) (OB 58)" I've got nothing but love for Navani, but you've got to admit she has a thing for powerful men and she goes for what she wants. She 'practically seduces' Dalinar. She doesn't care about tradition and she never loved Gavilar. She and Gavilar were very different people. Gavilar didn't share his secrets or his plans involving the Sons of Honor with her. As Gavilar lay dying he didn't spare a thought or a word for her. Gavilar loved his kingdom. He saw Navani as part of that, a jewel on his crown. Sadeas by contrast wasn't always a red-faced, aging, lump of evil dough. The red-faced thing is likely the result of excess drinking. When he was younger, Sadeas was powerful, a skilled swordsman, well dressed, intelligent, and more interested in Navani than Gavilar was. We get some glimpses into Sadeas's mind. We see that he doesn't really love Ialai. Their marriage is based on a shared cunning ruthlessness and a love of power. Sadeas and Ialai literally scratch each others backs. Sadeas covets things, gemhearts, shards, ryshadium, kingdoms. He doubtless coveted Gavilar's finest jewel. Navani and Sadeas must have been around each other on campaigns and at court. All of this is to say, there was plenty of opportunity and motive here. Let us imagine that Sadeas and Navani did have an affair. Navani keeps stringing Sadeas along, the occassional late night tryst. Sadeas hating Gavilar but staying by his side so he can be close to Navani. Then Gavilar dies and Sadeas comes to the shattered plains. Sadeas can at last marry her and have what he wants, but she's in mourning and he's married so he waits some more. Perhaps she leads him on a bit to keep him loyal to her son. Then Navani chooses to follow her heart and be with the man who has always loved her, always seen her for herself. She choses Dalinar, a stupid, brutish, Kholin, again. It almost makes you feel bad for Sadeas. It explains his mysterious loyalty and his terrible hatred for Dalinar. Alright, I know this theory has run on a bit. It does sound a bit more G.R.R.M. than Sanderson, but Sanderson does try to push himself into new things. I have some more evidence if people need convincing, but I'll just add one more speculation. What if Jasnah is Sadeas's daughter? Both are well dressed, black haired, cunning, ruthless, and power hungry. What if Jasnah's childhood lunacy is her knowing the truth about her parents? Did Adolin kill Jasnah's father? Does Jasnah have a blood right to the throne? How upset is Dalinar going to be when Ialai tells everyone? The most important words a man can say, "I will remember that my wife is always right."
  23. As we know Navani's parents hasn't been mentioned by name in the entire Stormlight Archive. But while rereading TWOK ch61, I found this. Is this why we know little about Navani's background because she's from a broken kingdom?
