1. I had some thoughts and theories about possible effects of feruchemical powers and I decided to share it with You in hope of some brainstorming. Steel Feruchemy (spoiler to SoS) steel feruchemy seems more similar to time stopping than a speed travel. It seems preaty OP, because super speed requires also muscle memory, and certain responce to sences to maneuver. Thar would indicate that a steel ferrin with a lot of full metalminds just kill anybody with sword or knife. Although in Mistborn 1 Sazed said storing it is more difficult than other aspects. That leads me to belive you have to walk or run to store speed. That would set certain limitations on tapping. Basicaly it wouldnt affect any type of movement than walking and running. So in a sword fight you could move your position a lot faster, byt not thrust or cut with any extra speed - except of beter charge. Byt it would give you good way of suprizing oponnent, changenging beween long distance and short distance combat and backstabbing. Pewter Feruchemy There I basicaly wonder if a lot of pewter tapping can make you grow your bones larger. This is not completely irrational considering that tapping pewter allmost always causes growth of skinn tissue. Feruchemist are supposed to be able to tap metalminds at any rate and withought bone growth rapid tapping of pewter would change you into a giant swedish meatball. The idea came into my mind when Sazed said that while tapping strenght of five men he was similar to colos in size. I do belive that he didn't meant size, but I realized - why not. Feruchemy and hemalurgy of strenghth seem to have similar basic funcrion - rip strenght out, and then give it back. It would affect bones a lot lighter than hemalurgy, but it could anyway. Enchanced Feruchemy - Spoilers to BoM
 2. So I was checking up with my Deviant Art when I found this recent pic by Jazzy-Kandra (Please check out the link and tell him hi) http://www.deviantart.com/art/Melaan-621536006 When I saw it I instantly thought, "What if we were to write a story about the characters from Alloy of Law as if they were High School students attending a Elendel High School as normal students? Heck what if we did that with ANY of the Brandon Sanderson books!?!" Now I know this is probably not the first time someone has thought of this. I am reminded of the `Attack on Titan Junior High' series. Literally just using the characters in a completely different/more normal setting. But if there is anyone who fancies the idea, write a quick scene as how you would see the series. If you know of such a project that already exists, please leave a link so we can all check it out! I look forward to all the submissions, and when I can I'll write up one myself. Have fun!
 3. Normally I'm incredibly against rereading books. But with anything written by Sanderson, my opinion changes. There is just something about the way he writes that allows me to enjoy rereads as much, if not more than the first time. It might be the way he makes characters so believable and human, it might be the way every world he makes seems so real. It might be the way I can find a way to connect with almost all of his characters. Or maybe I just like the mystery of knowing he has the entire Cosmere planned out, and know close to nothing about it. But what I want to focus on here, is just a collection of all the excellent foreshadowing Sanderson does in his works. I'm currently almost done with my fifth reread of Warbreaker, and I still am finding things he foreshadowed that I had never picked up on before. So as you find foreshadowed events, or reveals in your rereads, please post them here and I'll keep updating this post so there can be a collection. I wish I had more quotes to start this with, but I'm sure everyone on the forums will be eager to contribute . I hope everyone finds this aspect of Sanderson's writing as intriguing as I do and hopefully this can turn into a pretty exhaustive list! Basically I'm just looking for quotes or specific situations that help the reader find out what is going to happen later in the books. Not so much things that hint towards the greater Cosmere, but the outcome of the specific book or series. Please give a chapter + quote or situation so I can put them in order! 4. This page contains spoilers for the original Mistborn Trilogy. So, with Hemalurgy, the possible creations that can be made are endless. We have already seen Kandra, Kollos, Inquisitors, and the beasts in Shadows of Self. What other combonations are there? This is my thought on a possible creation. Koloss are made from 5 iron spikes and what if, instead of iron spikes, the spikes were zinc? Hemalurgy dehumanizes someone and so the image that this creates in my mind is that of a mad scientist.
 5. I've noticed that Brandon is generally far more receptive to thought-experiment-based questions regarding his magic systems than he is to direct questions. So I'm proposing this thread for Cosmere mechanics questions (i.e., not character/plot/worldbuilding questions) as well as potential in-universe experiments to investigate these questions in-universe. Please post the question you want answered (Q), as well as the experiments you would perform (E) and potential hypotheses and how they would relate to particular experimental outcomes. Some of these will be easier than others, so I'd recommend secondary questions based on certain outcomes and/or possible consequences (C) of each answer (A). The archetype for this thread is Krhriss' wonderful interrogation of Wax in Bands of Mourning. Examples: 1) Q: Does aluminum block Steel/Iron Sight. E: Take two equal-mass/shape metal pellets and coat one with aluminum. Can a Coinshot can see lines any difference in the lines pointing to the aluminum-coated one? C: Can you use aluminum to shield valuables from detection or to smuggle weapons under the nose of coinshots? Can aluminum be used to protect metalminds that are not embedded in the body? A: No lines. E_2: Does partial blocking protect the object from steelsight? How much coverage do you need? Is there a strictly line-of-sight effect (note: Line-of-Sight not required for protection against soothing) Lines equally strong. Aluminum probably unuseful as a shield. E_2: Repeat with much thicker Al block. Visible lines, but less strong. Is there a threshold to total blockage? E_2: Try with different thicknesses of aluminum, different coverages, etc. 2) Q: what happens to metals when they are burned? E: Put an allomancer into a hermetically sealed chamber that is very carefully weighed during the process. Have them burn different metals at different intensities and record the weight for the chamber. C: Could you figure out a way to collect the metals that are burned and reuse them? Is there any chance for long-term metal depletion on Scadrial? Can you recycle metals? A: Weight unchanged. Metals not 'destroyed'. E_2: Carefully filter air and test for trace metals. E_3: Test to see if there is a weight-change _while burning metals_ to see if active use of investiture conveys any sort of weight change. Weight changes. See if you can use this to quantify allomantic burn rate among individuals. E_2: See how this change correlates with allomantic strength in specific contexts (I suspect that burn rate is uncorrelated with innate allomantic strength, even if one individual can push harder with a faster burn. So TLR and Vin would use up their metals at a relatively similar rate despite a vast disparity in power levels). Subquestion 2.5: Can you quantify Mass-Investiture equivalence with a sensitive enough scale? E: (a) Carefully prepare two identically-massed metalminds and then Charge them to different levels. Can you see a weight change? C: Feruchemy is considered here in case allomantic metals are completely destroyed. Note that this experiment would only be able to provide upper bounds for Mass-Investiture equivalence and couldn't be used to completely rule out 'no conversion'.
 6. Wax used the Bands of Mourning tapping amazing amount of Investiture from its reserves, at the point he began to see the true structure of the Cosmere. We know that someone become a Sliver after keep an huge amount of power, the power expands his soul and when the power was there no more, it leave some residual. We know also that a Lerasium Mistborn is near of the amount of power needed to become a Sliver (from a WoB). Therefore, may Wax and Marasi have becomed Slivers ? Any idea ?
 7. I've been re-reading Mistborn and something hit me as I'm thinking about these powers preparing to hit the cosmere-scale of the story. Does a copper cloud hide all active use of Investiture AND does Brass enable a Seeker to detect any use of Investiture? These skills seem like they'd be really helpful for spying knowing that Scadrial is going to eventually explore other worlds in the cosmere, I'm wondering if we know anything about these powers yet.

 9. I posted this over on Crafty Games' forum, but I thought I'd go ahead and repost it here, too. After all, the more who know about this, the better! In a nutshell: I'm going to be running a Mistborn RPG campaign starting Wednesday, Feb 24th, 2016 at 6:00pm in Salt Lake City, UT, open to all comers. All participants will receive a free set of Crafty-Games' Mistborn dice, or if they already have dice, some other prize (see below). The Details: Who: I will be Narrating. Hopefully YOU will be playing. This campaign is open to anyone who is interested and can make it to the Salt Lake City area on a reasonably regular basis. No previous experience with the Mistborn Novels or the Mistborn Adventure Game (MAG) or Role Playing Games in general is required- the campaign will be accommodating of new and experienced players alike, and it shouldn't spoil anything from the novels. What: We will be playing the Mistborn Adventure Game- a roleplaying game based on Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn Novels. Specifically, during the first session we will be introducing players to the game and the rules via a very short, 1-session adventure. In following sessions we will be playing the Beasts of Burden adventure found in the Skaa: Tin & Ash game supplement (so if you are interested in playing, please do NOT read the Beasts of Burden portion of the Skaa supplement). I will be providing everything needed to play the game, so if you don't have the rulebooks or dice or whatever, no worries. If you would like to bring some of your own supplies, I recommend a pencil and 10 six-sided dice. There is no charge to play in this campaign, it's completely free! When: The first session will be on Wednesday, February 24th, beginning at roughly 6:00pm. Subsequent sessions will likely be on Wednesday evenings, on either a weekly or bi-weekly basis. I anticipate that this campaign should run for a duration of roughly 4-6 sessions over the course of 2-3 months, depending on players' schedules. *Note: If you are interested, but this schedule does not work for you, PLEASE email me (address below) PM me and let me know what schedule would work for you. Where: The folks at Game Night Games, a family friendly table-top gaming store in Sugarhouse, Utah have graciously allowed us to use a portion of their gaming area to play. I know these guys pretty well and they are seriously a great group, and the store is more friendly and comfortable than most gaming stores out there. Here is the address: Game Night Games 2148 S. 900 E. Suite 2 Salt Lake City, UT 84106 Phone: (801) 467-2400 http://www.gamenightgames.com link to their calendar event for this game Why: Do I really need to answer this one? Oh alright then. To get together with some new friends and play some Mistborn Adventure Game, of course! If that isn't enough to pique your interest, maybe this will: Free Mistborn Dice! Courtesy of the awesome guys at Crafty Games, I have a number of extra sets of Mistborn Dice from their recent kickstarter. They would like me to demo the game for them (hence this event) and give the dice away for free to players as an incentive to come try out the game. So here is how I'm planning on working this: Every player who participates in this campaign (to a reasonable degree- such as attending at least half of the game sessions) will receive a set of 10 Mistborn Allomancy Dice, featuring the Allomantic symbols for all of the Mental and Physical Metals as well as Gold and Atium. If a player already has a set of Allomancy Dice (and doesn't want a second set), then he or she will instead receive the 3 Allomancy dice given to backers of the Kickstarter Campaign, including the symbols for Lerasium, Duralumin, and Electrum. If you missed out on the Kickstarter, this is an excellent way to get ahold of these exclusive dice. If a player already has all of the above dice, then I will have an additional gift available to them. I'm not quite sure what yet, but I do have access to a 3D printer as well as an embroidery machine, so I'll make sure it's something good. Currently I'm thinking I'll make some custom, embroidered Mistborn coin pouches dice bags, though I am open to suggestions. How: If you're interested, all you need to do is show up at the date, time, and place listed above! However, I would greatly appreciated it if you emailed me sent me a PM first and told me of your interest in the campaign as well as your familiarity with Mistborn and the MAG. That way I have an idea of how many people to plan for and how much time I need to spend explaining the rules and setting. My email address is . And again, if you are interested but this particular event/campaign doesn't work for you for whatever reason, please email PM me anyway. Maybe we can work something out. What else? Okay, enough with the info-dumping, let me just talk about this for a little bit. This all started when Crafty Games sent me more Mistborn Allomancy dice than I had ordered. Rather than having me return them, they suggested I do something like this, and I'm glad they did. I have been playing Role Playing games off and on for more than half my life, and I have been playing the Mistborn Adventure Game actively for the past three years. It is easily my favorite game system so far; it's flexible and fluid, easy to remember the necessary rules, and it's very narrative driven rather than rules-driven, which I love. My favorite aspect of Role Playing games is getting together as a group and creating a story together, and that is exactly what the MAG focuses on. As for the Mistborn books, they are hands down my favorite novels out there. The world is just so unique and fascinating, the characters are fun, the magic system is so dynamic and different, and the story is just so epic! And Brandon Sanderson is an incredible Author and a really great guy in person. Seriously, if you haven't read them yet, go pick up Mistborn: The Final Empire (book 1) from the library and get ready to have an incredible experience. If you are a little nervous to meet up with a group of strangers and play a Role Playing Game with them, don't worry- I am too! I've never done anything quite like this before, with complete strangers, but I'm excited to give it a whirl! I look forward to meeting a few new players, making some new friends, and crafting our own story in the world of Mistborn! Thanks to Brandon Sanderson and Crafty Games for making this possible! EDIT: Apparently 17thshard doesn't like people posting their email addresses. Makes sense I guess. So instead of emailing me you can just send me a PM.
 10. So, I'm not good with the whole 'formal' theory-crafting template, so I suppose I'll just dive right in. When thinking of modern uses for Emotional Allomancy, I began to think about the effectiveness of psychiatrists and the like if they are able to expertly apply Rioting/Soothing on their patients during their sessions. Surely this would help ease away their anxiety, or help cheer them up or be more forthcoming and prone to self-reflection... ...but then I got to thinking of the potential aspects of that becoming more and more successful and popular. In our modern culture, many people experience great social and anxiety issues, as well as depression and all sorts of other slight personality disorders. Could Rioting/Soothing potentially replace, or at least severely hinder the invention and widespread usage of pharmaceuticals? Rioting and Soothing are known to effect emotions, being able to dampen them or inflame certain feelings, but the key point is they were feelings already there. And what are emotions but chemical balances/imbalances in the brain? Is Rioting/Soothing able to directly effect the brain in that regard? Instead of taking a [insert anti-depressant name] pill, would daily or weekly sessions with the Rioter/Soother do the trick, and help balance out your emotions? *Random thought* What about Sociopaths? Would they have any emotions able to be allomantically manipulated?* Even if Emotional Allomancy doesn't necessarily replicate/replace pharmaceutical pills of the like, it would still become quite popular as civilization advances. Day have you just a little bit gloomy? Go see a skilled Rioter (at top dollar, of course), and feel extremely happy for whatever period of time, and eventually, that can potentially become habitual behavior if one keeps doing that. You just don't feel right, if your anxiety or fear isn't been soothed away, or your desired level of happiness doesn't become achieved, or it's just no longer enough. Yes, I'm talking about potential Recreational Soothing/Rioting (And it's bad, m'kay! Really, really, bad) and it's potential for abuse and mental dependency/addiction. Does such a thing sound plausible -- especially considering what's considered to be addictive behaviour nowadays? Then we can get into the whole actual Cosmere aspect of it all and what damage mental dependency/addiction takes on your Cognitive Identity and all that. What do you all think? Is this theory crackpot enough?
 11. Please note: I consider Sanderson to be one of my favourite authors. What I'm about to say here I consider a minor irk, in the same way that I've seen complaints about people 'raising an eyebrow' too often. I'll still be waiting eagerly for Brandon's next book. Also, please note that there are spoilers for Mistborn, the Stormlight Archives, the Reckoners, and most Sanderson novels in this post. One thing I've been thinking about recently is this: If there were one thing I disliked about Sanderson's writings, what would it be? In the end, I've settled on one slight theme that I politically disagree with. Some of you might actually disagree with me and my political views, which is perfectly OK. Some of you might have a different take on how I see things, which is also OK. But, if I were to point at one thing about Sanderson's writings, and say "I disagree with that.", I would talk about the theme of redemption. Throughout Sandersons novels, there are many examples of the theme of "Once a villain, always a villain." And, usually, the resolution of the story ends with murdering the 'bad guy'. The only exception to the rule that I can see is when you have an Unreliable Narrator, and we don't see the full picture, or else there are external influences in causing the character to be evil, while deep down, they're pure of heart after all. But, in real life, people can and do change. If you do something wrong, that doesn't automatically make you a horrible person, irredeemably, for the rest of your life. In fact, it is partly through are mistakes that we learn, develop and adapt to become better. This is one of the reasons I personally strongly oppose the death penalty. I genuinely believe that virtually anyone can change, to become better people than whoever they were before when they committed the crime. But, I don't see this in Sanderson's works. You almost never get a genuinely remorseful villain who wishes that they hadn't done something horrible. For example, the Lord Ruler and Sadeas, when confronted about the horrible things they'd done, respond in a similar way. "I did what I had to do", or else actually provoke the people confronting them. Shortly afterwards, both of them get murdered. Now, imagine how we, the readers, would have reacted differently if The Lord Ruler had been remorseful. If The Lord Ruler, quietly, had turned back to look out the window, silently thinking of all those he'd murdered, all those who were now dead because of him. Then, he looks back at Vin, with deep, haunted eyes, and talked of how he'd tried to do the best thing, the only thing, he thought possible. Would you, the reader, still have sympathized with Vin when she tore Alendi's bracers off and stabbed him through with a spear? But, Sanderson didn't do this. And, so, we cheer Vin on as she throws off the yolk of oppression that the Lord Ruler has kept the skaa under for the past 1000 years. The same story goes for most 'villain' deaths in Sanderson's canon. Whether or not it's intentional, this enforces the message that nobody who has done something for a purely selfish reason in the past can ever work past their flaw in their nature, or become a better person in the future. A few of you may ask me about the Reckoners, in which Prof, after briefly becoming and Epic, overcomes his evil side to join David and the Reckoners once again. However, in this case, his evil side never actually belonged to him, but instead was forced upon him by Larcener. If it hadn't been for that, he would never have become evil. So, if I were asked what issue I had with Sanderson's works, that is what I'd say. I, personally, believe that no matter what one's done in the past, one can move beyond that. Alfred Nobel created the Nobel Peace Prize because he was so horrified at the damage and carnage he'd created by inventing dynamite. Oppenheimer, too, helped to create the Atomic Bomb, and only later did he regret what he'd done after seeing the carnage of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, quoting from a Hindu text: "Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds." In this way, people learn from their mistakes and regrets, to become their better selves, something I feel is lacking in Sanderson's works.
 12. I noticed there wasn't a thread on Mistborn Era 2 Meyers Briggs types so I figured I start one. These are my guesses Waxillium Ladrian- INFP Wayne- ENFP or ESFP Steris Harms- ISTJ Marasi Colms- I'm not really sure for her. She is rather intellectual but fascinated by morals of others. Marasi has been known to make rash decisions in times of danger. So INxP Alikk Neverfar- I don't think we've seen enough of him to type him thoroughly but I feel like he's an xNFJ. Any Ideas?
 13. Okay guys, hear me out. I was wondering if there was a way to gain the powers of someone who was a Metalborn by other means than Hemalurgy. Emphasis on was. I`ve always thought that normal metals just burn up, but that when someone burns Lerasium, they somehow absorb it, as in that their blood or that their bones come to consist, at least partly, of Lerasium. I think that blood could be the most likely, since mothers share their blood with their unborn babies, which could be the way Allomancy is passed on. Could it be possible to somehow extract the Lerasium that might still be existent in a Mistborn`s body, and to recycle it? Or should you just consume a Mistborn`s body whole, so just when they`ve died? Also, do we have a WoB on this or this is already a theory? I don`t roam these forums often, so please, enlighten me
 14. Say someone could compound Cadmium, and therefore not ever have to breathe EVER...would their lungs eventually atrophy, or does THE REQUIRED SECONDARY POWERS of tapping Breath maintain the lungs?...same question with Bendalloy and the stomach.
 15. They woke up to find the world on fire. The shelter they had constructed to keep them safe from the Deepness opened, and one brave soul looked out. The mists had gone. There was not a single trace of them. The volunteer let off a grin and opened the door fully, stepping out into the world, into the heat. He did not get far before collapsing, letting out choking, gasping breaths. The naked sun burnt down unrelentingly, searing his flesh and scorching his spirit away. In a final act of strength, he tried to push himself around, his eyes turning to his companions, hand reaching out as if to grasp them, begging them for help. But none was forthcoming; they had already closed the door again, the great stone barrier wedged tight to shield them from the heat. The man died, cursing his friends with the breath he could not even take. Hours later, there was a knock on the door from the outside. One of the occupants declared it to be the ghost of the dead man, come to tempt them to their deaths. There was little dissent, and the door remained closed. A second knock. This time, more insistent. The terrified refugees once again ignored it, though some clutched anything they could use as a weapon, their hands whitening as their grip tightened. They had few weapons, and no trained soldiers to wield them effectively. It was a gathering of the elite of the world, of nobility and priests, and Alendi had insisted it was a peaceful gathering, a shelter of equals with none able to intimidate the rest in the new world with a show of force. Neither did they have the strange magic of the Terris people to defend them, for the Worldbringers of Tathingdwen were safe in their own shelter under the city, and could not help them now. Three knocks. This one dislodged some of the earth at the top of the portal to their sanctuary. The group as one took a step back, their collective gasp drawing them together in their trepidation. No-one spoke. On the fourth knock, a crack appeared in the stone slab. It spread outwards radially, forking into tens and then hundreds of small breaks as it spread across the door. It reached the edge, and it held, briefly. Then it shattered into a myriad of pebbles and dust, a dull light bursting in from the outside. It was hidden slightly by a shadow in the doorway; a man. “R-Rashek?” One of them asked, incredulous. “It’s… It’s you! But how? What happened? Where is Alendi?” A scowl flittered across the man’s face, but before long it was replaced with a sigh. “Alendi failed,” He said. “That is the truth of it. The prophecy was a lie, as Kwaan said. My uncle saw far more than any other Worldbringer ever did.” “Then we are doomed. You’ve let the outside world in and now we will burn, like that poor fool.” “Poor fool? Ah, that explains the bones outside…” Rashek nodded to himself, dismissing their worries, and indeed the death of a person he most likely knew. “Yes, he was unfortunate indeed. He left while I was making… minor adjustments… to the world.” “Minor adjustments? What are you talking about?” “The Hero of Ages has failed,” Rashek nodded. “But I did not. For a brief moment, I touched infinity, I held a sliver of the power of god.” He shivered a little. “I moved the world closer to the sun.” He said, every syllable holding enormous weight behind it. “I left it too close; I have fixed that problem.” There was silence in the cave as each digested the meaning behind his words. Rashek had saved them, but apparently at a terrible cost. He had then fixed that, but all of them remembered Rashek’s impulsive behaviour, his arrogance. What price did the world pay to fix his mistake? Eventually, Rashek spoke again. “Come. We have much rebuilding to do, and a world to forge.” “A world to forge?” “Yes…” Rashek smiled. It was not a particularly nice smile, but nor was it malicious. It was grim, and foreboding, but it appeared he was far more harrowed by his experience than he would like to let on. He was less brash than usual, that was certain. More mature. “Consequences must be dealt with. We must bring the people of this world together under a single banner if we are to have any hope of surviving.” “You’re talking about conquest. Of war! The Worldbringers will never agree to this! We will never agree to this!” Rashek spread his hands, almost apologetically. “We are in a new world. Each of us must evolve to face it, or die with the old one. The Worldbringers have already made their choice.” He put his hands into his pockets as a new silence descended, before being shattered once again in an instant. “You’re insane!” Someone exclaimed. “You destroy our world, and hope to bend us to your will. Well, I'm not going to be your slave! I’m going to bring an end to your madness here and now!” they declared. A sword was drawn from its scabbard, and then they rushed at him with a sword in his hand. He swung it at Rashek’s head, an untrained but heavy-handed blow. Rashek did not move, did not even acknowledge the man. As his assailant drew close, the sword he held was flung from his grasp, soaring across the room to embed itself in the wall, still oscillating from the sheer force behind it. “I’m insane?” Rashek asked, looking at the man finally. “You attacked someone who was very recently an avatar of god. That makes you the mad one from where I am standing. No, not even that - It makes you treasonous and heretical.” Rashek drew his hand back and struck the man across his face. There was a crack as the neck snapped and the man hit the floor. As did a small metal bead. “Ah yes.” Rashek put his hand out, and the metal bead willingly obeyed his command, raising itself into the palm of his hand as though it had a mind of its own. He closed his fist around it, then turned his hand out so his palm was facing the roof when he opened it again. Within were eight more similar beads as well as the ninth he had dropped. “I know that not all of you feel the same way. We have new opportunities here, a chance to rechart the course of the world according to what we desire,” he sneered, “not what some philosophers prattle on about in their pathetic dotage. There is power here, and glory and wealth, for those of you who want to seize it. Allomancy is a strength beyond Feruchemy, beyond anything you could ever dream of. I offer you this gift if you help me.”” “I count many of you here as my friends, and so I trust you will make the right decision. Know that I say the truth when I say that the only way for humanity to survive is together, as one people. You followed Alendi when he said the same thing. Will you follow me?” Fluff The game starts just after the Ascension of The Lord Ruler, in the year 0 of his reign, and will end in the year 1020 - about two years before the events of Mistborn: The Final Empire. Players begin as one of Rashek’s closest companions, directly after the events of his Ascension. The game is designed as a 'free-form' RPG, inspired by a variety of sources - mostly city-builders and simulation games. Your actions will not only affect your House, but also those of other Houses, and perhaps even the very course of The Final Empire in the long-run. For the sake of roleplaying, it should be noted that your starting characters have no experience of Allomancy, and that if something hasn't been explicitly introduced, it probably does not exist (or is not known of) yet. Nor are any of the secrets of the books yours to exploit, at least at the start. The Final Empire's most (in)famous aspects will slowly unfold before you over Generations, and it's up to you to capitalise on that gradual roll-out. Any number of players can play this game - It is effectively drop-in/drop-out, in many ways. Whenever a player signs up, they will be added to the game at the beginning of the next Generation with a new House to govern. Players who sign up after the game starts will have a slighter weaker House than most players, as they cannot govern how it has developed over the years (and so it will be a bit randomly generated) - but that won't stop you from competing with entrenched players. Rules How to Play the Game At the start of the game, up to nine lerasium beads will be given out to random players - If there are nine or less players, each player will be given one. If you wish to sign up for the start, then go ahead! RP away (or don't. While RP is highly encouraged in the thread, it's not necessary before the game starts). If you need help with name(s) for either Terrismen or Nobles, I can provide the name tables from the Mistborn Adventure Game, with a bit of effort. I also need the name of your House. There's no restrictions on this as to whether it's an official one or not, just as long as another player hasn't picked the same House name already. The game will take place over eleven Generations, one per century (in order to make it not last four years...), and each Generation lasts a total of four Turns. Each Turn lasts a week. Thus the game will last a total of 44 weeks. There is no 'win' condition for the game, as such (nor is there a loss condition). How can you compare the strength of one House to another, after all? This is more-or-less an evolving roleplaying setting, with statistics used to take measures of things. At the end of the game, such information will become public knowledge, and I may make a judgement on the 'winning' House, if such a thing can be seen easily. Players may discuss in private conversations as well as on the main thread, though I would like both to be in on such conversations, and for them to be on a Google doc so they can be posted at the end of the game for general perusal. These conversations may not be edited in any way except for spelling and grammar. Some rules may be added or changed depending on the course of the game - This is as much an experiment as it is a game. If so, they’ll be added here. A link to all the rules and writeups, including this one, can be found in my signature for relatively quick reference. Actions During each Turn, players may choose up to three Actions for their House to take. These are taken by messaging the GM to inform him of what you are doing. One of these must be stated publicly in the thread as well. If this is not done, none of the Actions will have any effect. There is no set list of Actions for players to take - It is a game of exploration. I will be converting any Actions taken into effects on numerical Statistics. Usually actions will succeed, unless they are opposed by another player (such as assassinations), or your House is in dire circumstances (such as being utterly broke). In that case, I will use a combination of the data and RNG to decide the outcome. Whenever you take an action, as it relies on my interpretation, it's always best to be as clear as possible about it. In most cases, try to answer the following questions: Who? - Who is performing the Action, and in what manner? Lord Heron is performing this action, in his capacity as House Lord. What? - What is the Action itself? Lord Heron is buying mines and smelters. Where? - Where does this Action take place? Near the mountains of the Northern Dominance. When? - Not just the general sort of time in-RP you are performing the action, but what numbered action is this (in case of conflict)? This is my 2nd Action for the Turn. Why? - What do you hope to achieve if all goes perfectly? I want to buy the mines so I can sell Allomantic metals for long-term benefit at a short-term cost. There are a few things that can also affect the outcome of a Turn other than your Statistics and your Actions. For example, how many other people have attempted something similar this Generation may have a strong effect on the cost and benefits of your actions (say, if lots of property was bought at the same time). Sometimes the RP you perform may grant you an additional bonus. Statistics Statistics are simply a measure of your House and how strong it is. These will change over the course of the game by quite a bit, and all are directly affected by you using Actions. Allomantic Strength - A measure of the number of Mistings and Mistborn your House has, and their general strength. This will globally tend to decrease over time, and it can also decrease by marrying with Houses with lower Allomantic Strength. All players starting as Mistborn in the First Generation have an Allomantic Strength of 10000 (with just a single Mistborn, of course). Other players have a starting Allomantic Strength of 0 and no Allomancers. Martial Prowess - This basically counts the strength and skill of your guardsmen and so on. Martial Prowess is used for military action, assassinations, and defending yourself from attacks. This begins at 10. Wealth - This is a measure of how many Imperials (Boxings) you have access to at any immediate time. It is used to purchase Goods, Properties and services (or perhaps bribes). Most Actions will either have a Wealth cost or generate Wealth. A low Wealth value may lead to actions failing. This begins at 10. Goods - Goods keeps track of how much you have for trade deals and the like. Certain Properties will help generate Goods. Goods provide minor benefits and may have other uses as well. You do not begin with any Goods. Property - Properties can be used to gain additional Wealth or Goods over time. They cost Wealth to purchase, and can include housing and businesses. Property has a beneficial effect on your House or their statistics. You begin with just your House Keep in the city of Luthadel. Respect - This is a measure of how known you are for good business dealings and impressive feats to NPC Nobles and, to a lesser extent, other players. Any Action which gains or loses you Respect will be public knowledge, as is the value of the statistic itself. This begins at 0. Infamy - This statistic is a measure of how good your House is at repaying insults and slights, and also of how ruthless you are. Any Action which gains or loses you Infamy will be public knowledge, as is the value of the statistic itself. This begins at 0. Reputation Reputation is a statistic that is not known to you, and generally you are not informed of when it changes (though you may be able to make an educated guess). Reputation is a measure of how well liked you and the family in charge of your House are. There are five different Reputations, and each begins at 50%: Reputation (House) - This is a measure of how well liked the family in charge of your House is liked by the other members of your House. If it becomes too low, you are in danger of facing attacks from the inside. Reputation (The Lord Ruler) - Obviously you want to remain on The Lord Ruler's good side. Reputation (The Steel Ministry) - This covers all non-Inquisition Cantons. There is no Steel Ministry at the start of the game. Reputation (The Inquisition) - You want to remain on their good side too. There is no Inquisition at the start of the game. Reputation (Skaa) - Too low, and you risk a rebellion. Too high, and questions may be asked. The Generation Game As was previously mentioned, you as a player are the Lord or Lady in charge of your House for each of the eleven generations we play. Not only do you have to take command of your House and what it does, but you also have a duty to create the next Lord or Lady. During each Generation, you can Try For An Heir as an Action (assuming you have a wife/husband). This may be done once per Turn for a Lady or the wife of a Lord. If you have no Heirs yet, this Action is automatically successful. The chance is halved for each Heir you already have. There is an equal chance that the child will be male or female. It would be helpful if you had names in mind for the Heir. You may choose a Designated Heir at any time - If you do not, then the eldest male inherits. Children being born and Heirs being Designated are both public knowledge. If a character has no Heirs at the end of the Generation, Designated or otherwise, then the line is traced back up their family tree to give them a randomly-generated Heir, one not of their choice. Their House will also suffer slightly for it. Before the end of the Generation, you are advised to Marry your Heirs off to the children of other players or NPCs. Your first character automatically begins married. Female Heirs tend to marry into other families, and cease being your Heirs (in special circumstances, this may not be true for either). If your Designated Heir is not married at the end of the Generation, they will be quickly married off in less favourable circumstances. Players may make their own arrangements when marrying their Heirs off to each other. A player who receives a Marriage request (via an Action from another player) has one Turn to accept to it. This does not use an Action. In the case of NPC marriages, the husband of the pairing will pay a dowry. This dowry will be dependant on various factors to do with the player's statistics. You may spend additional Actions finding a more favourable match-up (or currying favour) if you wish. In a staggering coincidence, it turns out that the child of the character of a Generation is exactly the same as the next Generation's character. Your Designated Heir will be your next character during the following Generation. Between Generations, a few other things will occur as well - A small randomisation of parameters to represent the passing years. In addition to this, at the start of the Second Generation, Houses still without Allomancy will obtain some Allomantic Strength, and their character will be granted Allomancy. This will be weaker than if they married the descendant of one of the original nine Mistborn. Events Events can occur which may demand a response from the players it affects. The response locks up an Action for that Turn, but generally has a more powerful effect than a normal Action would. There are two type of Events that may occur in the game: A Global Event is something that happens in the world at large. Generally speaking, this will tend to occur at the beginning of each Generation. A House Event is something that only affects your House, due to the Actions you or other players have taken, such responding to a Skaa rebellion. This may happen during any Turn. Rollover Each Turn finishes at 6PM on Sunday, and new turns will start three hours later at 9PM, all according to my clock (which is the GMT timezone, currently in British Summer Time), after I have posted any public information in the writeup. It is handy if I have Actions in before then, but not too vital; you can change your mind about what you’re doing right up to the last minute, and I’ll curse you for it, but I won’t complain about it. There is no preferential treatment for Actions based on when they are sent in or anything like that. Sign-ups end at 6PM on Saturday the 6th of June, and the game will start at 9PM. Trading With regards to trades/contracts/marriages between players, there are two ways in which this can now occur. The player initiating the trade sends in an Action to the GM, either publicly or privately, as before. If the other player sends in an Action to respond to that trade on that Turn with exactly the same terms, then the trade will be carried out. Otherwise, the responding player will be notified they have a player requesting a trade at the start of the next Turn, and can respond to it during that Turn. The initiating player cannot cancel that trade or make use of what they are trading that Turn. If the responding player does not send in an Action to confirm the trade, then it is cancelled. Conveniently, if trading with an NPC House, you will always get the trade on that same Turn. Alternatively, contracts may be made between players over multiple turns. All details of the contract should be kept within it. Modifying or cancelling a contract requires both players to agree to the change and message the GM, but doesn't use an action. Cancelling a contract before it is finished may (or rather, ideally should) inflict penalties on the canceller. Properties When you buy a Property, you will be informed of how much it cost you, what it requires (if anything), and what it produces (whether Goods, Wealth or something else) each Turn. What it produces should be what you asked it to produce. If you do not have the raw materials required for the Property, it will automatically purchase the materials using your Wealth. Properties do not produce anything or cost any Upkeep on the turn they are purchased. You can temporarily shut down a Property without using an Action. Properties will cost 2 Wealth in Generation 1. Some Properties may produce multiple things (such as a blacksmith). If so, then you may designate what it creates each Turn. You may also choose to change production as a free Action (such as switching from swords to armour), though this will not take effect until the following Turn. You may choose to have your Property immediately sell what it produces. During the first Generation, assuming there are no extenuating circumstances, a basic Property of some kind will cost you 2 of your Wealth. If a property is unique (such as a trade route), then it cannot be bought from the GM if someone else owns it, and if multiple people attempt to purchase the same property at once, then the winner will be randomly selected or based on purchase order. The winner will also be charged slightly more than normal for having the winning 'bid'. Each Property you purchase will have a cost to keep it in good condition, to hire/feed workers and all that. This Upkeep cost will increase the more Properties you have. During the First Generation, each Property will add an Upkeep cost equal to half the number of Properties you own, rounded up (so 1-2 costs 1 each, 3-4 costs 2 each, etc). Your Luthadel Keep does not cost Upkeep itself, nor does it add to Upkeep. At some point, it may become economically unviable to purchase more Properties, though you may decide that you can take the hit for a while to produce Goods, etc. You are informed of what your Upkeep cost is at the beginning of each Turn. Upkeep costs will decrease over time to allow for a larger business empire. Can you survive the sinister and deadly world of the high society of The Final Empire? Will your descendants rule at The Lord Ruler's side, or be swept away like worthless skaa in his wake? Will your actions change the very nature of the Final Empire over the course of a thousand years? Will your House stand the test of time, and prove itself to be worthy of being an Heir to the Final Empire? 16.
Sorry if this has been asked before, I have been meaning to know this since the first time I read alloy of law.
Consider someone who burns cadmium say Marasi. If she has sufficiently large amounts of cadmium, and if she keeps burning it continuously she could form a bubble in which the time runs very slowly and the time out of the bubble runs fast. With proper supplies she could stay inside the bubble for days and come out to see years passed.

Isn't this similar to what hoid is doing?

Heck Marasi can potentially live thousands of subjective years while living only normal lifespan inside the bubble. Even if she doesn't do that, even if we consider her burning the metal at the same rate as other allomancers, she would live for a longer time than normal people because her body lived a "smaller" time than others.

Now consider someone burning bend alloy, say like wayne. They are the exact opposite of marasi. He can live for a hundred years inside a bubble to come out and see that only few days have passed. Even for a normal usage of the metals, he would live for a particularly lesser amount of time than what others can, because his body aged "longer" than others for the same outside time for all the time he spends in speed bubbles.

Cadmium is more useful than Marasi gives it credit for. Consider how much useful it can be for biologists working on evolution, astronomers studying star cycles etc.!!

and you can potentially rule out a player from a chase or the events going on if you just sneak in a cadmium burner and flare the metal around the important opponent - say army general. Even if you flare the metal for few seconds, you potentially leave him useless for hours!

Consider a seige. If you have enough cadmium burners and if you bring all your poulace and your resources into one spot and make a huge time bubble around them and spend a few weeks inside it, months will have passed outside but you are no where near the end of your food or resources. It can change the face of seiges and war fare!

Also, how will be savant of cadmium or bendalloy be?

 17. So, I've read on the wiki's among hearing it in other places that a Mistborn is capable of burning metals because they have more investiture than other people. So, say you had a Nicrosil compounder twinborn. He could store his investiture, then compound it to become either much stronger at burning Nicrosil, or even become a Mistborn. I've seen other theories of it letting you store the power you would have gained while burning a metal, but I don't agree with them.
 18. This is my first topic... (hooray!) So if I'm overlooking something completely obvious, feel free to point it out. I think it would also be fun to add ideas from everyone. Stormlight Archive 1) Shardblade drop Shardblades have been summoned over extremely large distances with little or no effort. You think the command, and the shardblade appears. It presumably comes through shadesmar, based on how other things have been doing that and the fact that it's a (dead) spren. Now, what if you were to go to a VERY high place and summon your shardblade? The energy output would be greater than the input. You could even power a generator by repeatedly dropping a shardblade on it! Could this be draining some sort of energy resevoir from the cognitive realm... or is it draining power from the gemstones? If it needs stormlight, then the gemstones or the radiant could easily feed it that. 2) Antigravity lashing This has the same concept as #1; an object comes back down with more energy than it went up with. Say you were to do a reverse lashing of half an object's weight upwards. You then launched it somehow with a ton of energy. The object would go much higher than it normally would with the same amount of energy. However, when the stormlight ran out, the object would come plummeting back to the ground with more energy than it was sent up with. Yes, this uses stormlight, a type of investiture. However, if stormlight consumption is based on time, you could still have a higher energy output with a large enough force sending it upwards. This implies that there's a complex formula for how fast stormlight is consumed. 3) Spren = mass? Spren supposedly come from a thought. If a thought allows spren to be CREATED, and that said spren bonds with a radiant, and that spren takes a form of something, wouldn't it add mass to the world from a thought? You could generate mass (and therefore energy) by thinking! Granted, the thought takes some level of energy... but you could theoretically have a higher output. However, it's more likely that there's a very complicated process to spren and bonding that we just don't know about yet. Mistborn 1) Compounding You simply come out with more energy than you put in. That's very simple... Store the heat of a fireplace, turn it into the heat of a supernova! I've read another topic talking about how it can draw power from shards, so that's resolved. Warbreaker 1) Awakened breath consumption Awakening an object lets it run for a long time on a single breath. Awakening can convert breaths to kinetic energy. Apparently, awakened objects stop working eventually. Could this be using up the breath or the objects energy? Either way, would a harder task demand more of that energy source? If not, (which is less likely) you could make a monkey rapidly turn a crank for a very, very long time and convert very little breath into A LOT of energy. In that case, awakened objects probably use up breath or their stored energy based on how hard what they're doing is. 2) Color=Energy... Color is either pigment or the wavelength of light. It's almost garunteed to be pigment, as there are a bunch of problems with light. There's bound to be some problem with converting pigment to energy, but I don't know enough formulas to think of something. I want to know what you think! I need someone who knows what they're doing!

 20. Well, this is my first post to the gallery, so I'm apprehensive excited to see what people think. Here we have the cast of Shadows of Self, based off descriptions in the book. I'm planning on adding color at some point, but I thought I'd check in and get feedback.

 22. So...I'm just wondering...has anyone been able to get any insight or information from Brandon or Peter about the character Felt? Or...does anyone have any interesting theories they would care to discuss regarding his identity? Here's all that I've got so far... What we know for sure: Felt is a spy from Urteau, Scadrial. He is described as lithe and short with a hawkish face and a drooping moustache.[1] He is one of the main spies for House Venture. He spies on Kelsier's crew's hideout and reports to Elend that they are a well-funded, competent skaa thieving crew.[1] Elend employs Felt again during the Siege of Luthadel to figure out how the city was being infiltrated. He interrogates the refugees entering the city and the people running the Luthadel passwalls before searching the river and determining that someone had pried the grates free to create their own entrance into the city. Before that, Felt had not had much work as a spy, and is enjoying the tasks he has been given during the siege.[2] During the Siege of Fadrex City, Felt is assigned to watch the Lord Ruler's storage cavern in the east. [3] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Felt is an Alethi scout on the Shattered Plains who reports to Lyn during the Battle of Narak. Felt and Shim are sent scouting the surrounding plains prior to the Battle of Narak.[1] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So...Coppermind lists these as being two separate characters...but I find it hard to believe that Brandon would have given two different characters the same name accidentally. While it is not specifically named as being Felt, one of the two scouts who return to the command tent gives Shallan the hint that she needs in order to find the oathgate. Supposing that Felt is in fact a worldhopper...I don't believe that he is tied in with 17th shard...for one...he's not with the other three we see at the purelake. #2, he is using the same name that he used on scadrail instead of trying to hide his identity. What do you all think?
 23. I'm confused by how Bleeder could use Feruchemical Steel to shoot a bunch of people at Winsting Innate's auction. Sure, she'd be fast enough to run around the room and shoot at the criminals, but the gun wouldn't be mechanically able to fire, cock again, and fire again five times in the space of a second. I was really surprised when I read that. How did she do it? Did she have a bunch of guns? Does your steel speed extend to the stuff you're touching/using? Was it just a mistake?
