  1. Now I’ll give a disclaimer, this has to do with General cosmere realmic theory, so if you don’t want to be spoiled on magic systems of the cosmere, this ain’t the place for you. I made this because of @Aspiring Writer, and what better time to make it than my shardiversery! here I recruit people for F-tin being the best possible power in the whole of everything. Let’s start off with the basics. F-Tin by itself. F-Tin is quite the unique Feruchemantic metal, as it can be useful both when tapped and when stored. Reducing your sense of smell, taste, hearing, or even touch can be quite nice at times. Additionally, you have the absolutely mind-bending ability of storing pain, which basically breaks the end neutrality of Feruchemy. What I mean by that is that generally, the idea is that you have a moment of weakness when storing an attribute for a memory of strength when tapping it. With painminds, there is very few reasons to ever tap that stored attribute. There is no weakness in the moment for strength later, it is only strength in the moment! In Addition to all of that, there is the ability to store balance, proprioception, and direction, which could all be brilliantly useful in its own way. There are possibly other things that could be stored, but it all depends on what you would count as a sense (i.e. sense of time, sense of locational position, and all of those things). If you want to theorize or see what I mean about potential senses, here’s a thread on it: For a single Ferring to do all of that is insane! Now we can get into the absolute ridiculousness that is blending it with other magic systems. It is one of the best at a thing that I like to call reverse-compounding, which is fueling Feruchemy using Allomancy. I have a whole thread on it here: And once you expand from there, and start delving into the greater Cosmere, there is even more things you can store! (Relevant thread): And if you are want to know how F-Tin can help in day-to-day life, I made a post for that! All in all, I love F-Tin with all my heart, and it is far and away the most versatile power in all of the Cosmere. While it may not be the best at any one thing, it can certainly help you with anything you seek to do. So join me, and together, we can rule the Shard, preaching F-Tin superiority across the Cosmere! Additionally, if you are so inclined, you can join @AonDii’s Feruchemical Duralumin Club here:
  2. So, this is a bit of a niche question, but I've been wondering - Progression can obviously cause plants to rapidly grow, but could it be used to make plants rapidly rot as well? I ask because I was thinking of the ability to use seeds to rapidly generate topsoil via Progression; you'd plant some seeds, accelerate their growth, accelerate their rotting, and repeat the process, in a fashion similar to an accelerated version of the way that pioneer species colonize things like new volcanic islands. You'd probably need to mix in some manure or stuff like that, and use nitrogen-fixing species for the best effects, but it seemed like it might be a useful ability (albeit somewhat redundant with Soulcasting, probably). On the other hand, I wasn't sure if Progression could be used to accelerate rot in the first place, or whether the fact that Investiture is fuelling the growth would prevent you from using saprotrophic organisms (e.g. fungi) to do the decomposing - if you're supplying the energy, would they consume the plants you put them on?
  3. So, I just had a thought. If one were to gather up enough Investiture to cause a Perpendicularity to form, shove that Investiture into an object (say, via Awakening for sake of argument), then encase that object in aluminum, would it still cause the Realms to draw together on the 'other side' of the aluminum? I.e., while encased, would the Perpendicularity it creates be confined within the aluminum, or could it still stretch beyond it? Aluminum blocks magic, but I'm not sure this effect is magic per se so much as just... a general effect that Investiture has, analogous to the way gravity is caused by mass.
  4. What kind of abilities would a person get from being able to Compound aluminum, the sort-of anti-magic metal of Scadrial?
  5. Could someone give me the rundown on what is currently known about the Magic Systems shown in Yumi and the Nightmare Painter? Because I'm a little lost and need a summary.
  6. I'm having an issue with figuring out one of my magic systems. There will be music in the back of someone's head constantly, based off their emotions. If the person lets the music into their head the magic happens. Like for anger maybe things could explode or light on fire or the person could summon fire. If the person spends too long in the music they will either go mad or turn into monsters of the music they were sucked into, constantly listening to the music and causing the magic. I've come up with two lists for possible emotions. I'm not sure if these are the complete lists I want or if I should go shorter. If you have any suggestions for which emotions I should use and/or for what magic comes from the emotions it would be awesome. Edit: - Each person with the magic would have different ways of expressing the magic. It is based off personalities as well as their tendencies. If a person is prone to anger (a hothead) and roars or abuses when they get mad, their anger magic will be firey. If the person is cold and shoots insults or whatever, their anger magic will be cold and icey. - The music in the distance of every human's head will be called the dons and it will be described as being heard in the distance until the person lets it in. The music will be in tune to the individual's strongest emotion. The dons can be completely let in or just barely let to leak in. I will be making an updated list for the emotions I will likely use and maybe what elements or magic the emotions can cause. (The emotions need to be able to be connected to music.) The music will only be attached to major emotions (unless I am convinced or decide otherwise).
  7. Hi! ^^ I'm currently planning for a TTRPG-Campaign where I plucked my favorite things from the Cosmere and smash them all together on an alternate earth. "What would have happened if humanity had discovered magic around the 1860's?" is the premise. And where there is an invested Art, there are Shards. In my setting, there are three shards on Earth, two of which have created Allomancy and Hemalurgy. The third one made "Aurospiry", the new metallic Art I'm inventing. As a result of the Allomancy shard splintering themself, Allomancy has mixed with the two other Magics to create Feruchemy and another, 5th magic system, which I won't get further into now. So, Aurospiry: Basically, people can "embed" part of their spiritweb into specific metals, which creates metals that have some kind of wacky effect based on what part of their spiritweb is being embedded. Sadly, this needs much investiture, so the rest of their spiritweb is converted; fueling the transfer in the process. Invested individuals can put more into an object because not as much of their soul needs to be converted. And the more invested a person is, the more will the object keep their personality. This is not a way of making full cognitive shadows, as only the personality is transferred on top of the magic effect, not their memories and such. What part of the soul can be transferred - and therefore also the effect - is determined by the kind of metal that is being used. That's the gist of it. I wanted the effects to be similar to the other metallic arts but when I tried, I ended up making a bunch of stuff that already could have been achieved way easier with Medallions. Like "Makes the Wearer stronger" and so on. So if you get any ideas what some metals could do, please share them, I'd be happy to read your replies Edit: Thought of some and I thought it might be useful to get a feeling of what I am looking for: Iron: Gains the ability to change its weight. Steel: Gains the ability to change its form. Gold: Can heal itself and other metal objects. Electrum: Can show future possibilities on its surface Tungsten (a custom addition to the table): shows simple ideas (as in pictures). If the bond's strong enough, these pictures can be projected outward as illusions Narkital (a tungsten alloy I made up): Reacts to emotions in the vicinity Aluminum: Inherits a perfect copy of the dead person, nothing else Cadmium: Gives the wearer the ability to perfectly focus on one task. Chromium: Strenghtens the wearer's gut instinct (as in it heightens their fortune). Nicrosil: consumes sources of investiture it is touching to strenghten the wearer's invested arts Tin: more or less gives heightenings proportional to the investiture originally put into it. But only up to the 4th.
  8. So, a question about Awakening: Anyone know what happens if you Awaken a non-flexible object with a Command which would involve movement? For instance, taking a log of wood and Commanding it to "Jump". Would the Command just not work, as if you didn't put enough Breath in? Would the wood 'try' to obey, but just not be able to? Would it tear its own fibers apart? For that matter, could you Awaken something with a self-destructive Command, like telling a log to "Split" or a cloth to "Tear yourself"?
  9. So, this is my 144th post here! I chose to make something interesting for this number because this is a much cooler number then one hundred. I mean, it's 12 squared! Far better than 10 squared. Also, I wasted my 100th post RPing, so... This magic system was already posted here, it's in my signature, but this post/topic will be far more detailed and exact, as for the aforementioned RP I gave it more thought. It's still not perfect, but it's more well built. All right, now without further ado (what exactly this word means? checking on translate oh well, I guess it works), let's speak of the magic system! So, the idea is about animals connected to human attributes, or, if you wish to look at it like that, spiritual human ideas embodied as animals. Or something like that. Said animals have a specific attribute - Center - for each kind. Examples for now are: Wolves with the Center Longings, Foxes with the Center Change, Owls with the Center Thought, and (thanks @Gears for the idea) Scavengers with the Center Fear (or survival sense). I'm open to more suggestions on this part. I want for some reasons to find a Center for cats, so I will gladly accept help. I thought of names o those animals, and came up with Biopsyche at first, later I produced the name Faunospiritum, but I now prefer Faunologos instead. Now, for the powers. Each creature of the Faunologos can Harvest, Plant, Cultivate and Fertilize, abilities that will be explained soon. All of them are related to the creature's Center. Harvest is the creature's ability to... well, "harvest" the portions of a sapient creature's cognition related to said creature's Center. This Harvest is actually the fuel for the rest of the magical powers. Each of the other abilities takes different amount of Harvest. Planting is the hardest ability, that takes the most amount of Harvest. To Plant is to influence a sapient creature's cognition in a wanted direction, based on the Center. To do it in deep levels is impossible without the patient conscious or unconscious permission, though on shallow levels it could be done, so long as there's no active resistance. Cultivating is the second-hardest ability, and takes an average amount of Harvest. This is the ability to apply the Center on the surrounding world. In a way, it's like honorsren giving radiants adhesion - the power to bind things together, being spren that "bind things" (Syl). So, with this ability, a creature will be able to "Plant" his Center into materials around him - I'll give examples later. This ability also is supposed to make them able to open interdimentional portals, because of how their world works. I'll explain it later too. Fertilizing is the most obscure ability, and might not be considered a magical ability at all by some people. It also takes almost no Harvest at all. It makes the creature have a tendency toward its Center, and also gives them sapience. I also wish to thank @Yezrien for helping on the original topic. That's it for now, thank you for reading this far.
  10. So, as far as I understand it's the case that organic substances can be Awakened, and then Breath can be retrieved from them later (except in the case of Lifeless, possibly because they gain an Identity). Inorganic substances are far harder to Awaken (seventh Heightening, very high cost etc), and Breath can't be retrieved from them in the example we've seen (also possibly because Nightblood has its own Identity). Where does amber fall on this scale? I don't imagine it would be very useful for everyday Awakening (not exactly very flexible), but for academic/hypothetical purposes, where do your thoughts fall when it comes to the organic versus inorganic nature of amber for the purposes of Awakening? Because on the one hand it's closer in appearance to, say, a precious stone than cloth or straw, but it's actually composed of solidified resin.
  11. So, no idea if anyone actually knows the answer to this, but seeing as Stormlight healing works based on the Spiritual self (hence why no Shash-brand healing), could Radiants use Stormlight to accelerate their gains from working out by speeding up the rate at which their muscles heal, stronger? I'm honestly not sure one way or another, and wanted to open up the question.
  12. So, a question's been bugging me for a while about feruchemy. We know that you can't store all you have of a quality at once; a Brute can't store so much strength at a time that, say, they're physically incapable of moving, or their diaphragm can't pump their lungs. My question is, does that limit stay the same if your total quantity of that quality increases, or does it move? As an example, say our hypothetical feruchemist has 4 units of strength (just an arbitrary measure), and she can store two of those at any given moment, bringing her down to 2 units in the meantime (she's weak, she's unable to do too much etc). If she were to train her body to increase her overall strength, got absolutely ripped and ended up with 6 units of strength, would her limit for the amount she can store at a given time still be 2 (so she can store an equal amount of strength to before about twice as fast) or 3 (so she can store it only about half again as fast, but is only very slightly weaker than she was when she wasn't storing before she did her training). If the limit is essentially a safety measure, like how Rosharan stoneshaping was deliberately limited so it wasn't as dangerous as Yolen microkinesis, it would make sense for the former to be the case. There's at least one other example of a similar thing in feruchemy, in how firesouls are more resistant to the effects of tapping heat; they can't just boil themselves alive unless they're compounding. On the other hand, the 'low bound' of storing might be something more to do with the Cognitive self-image or the Spiritual self; something like feruchemy only being able to 'deviate' from that self a certain amount (though that might imply that storing Identity might let you lower the bound). I hope the question's clear. Don't know if anyone has any answers, but at the very least I hope we can have some fun discussing the thing!
  13. This is a magic system which is being made by me for my world. Ugh, this is a long one so bear with me The Ink : Ink is a black (mostly) slimy substance which is extracted from the body of Pages, A race consisting of creatures who come in various shapes, sizes, and have different anatomies either based on or not based on their environment. Ink is used in many parts of the society by various organizations, hospitals, Industries, and military. Ink is a major mutagenic substance and is known to mutate and cause drastic changes in ecosystems and environments if left uncontrolled. For example, If a herd of Pages are slaughtered in a forest and their dead bodies have been left to be buried in the soil there, (which mostly doesn’t happen as Ink is a valuable substance and will be extracted) it might get deep into the soil, affect the roots of the trees and shape the entire forest into Ink-based nightmares. Every living organism produces particles called the ‘Essence’ which also help in using Ink and to be mutated by it. When an organism (which is not human) has no control over it’s Essence which is exposed to Ink, it leads to mutation. For example, the Ink may react with a tree’s life ‘Essence’ and turn it into a freakish nightmare which is unable to move from it’s fixed place. However, if trained and mastered, they can be used to control their own body functions slightly, and slightly increase their physical capabilities to the point where it’s barely noticeable yet more efficient than nothing. Humans and Pages are said to be few of the only species capable of using and harnessing their Essence flexibly and in different ways when exposed to Ink (Pages have Ink inside them so they have to meet certain conditions to use it and their Essence is different) and the Essence can’t be used for anything other than living and the life processes except when exposed to Ink. This mutative behaviour happens in many other species as well, and not only trees and flora. The Industrial wastes of Ink which might be released into rivers/wastelands drastically change the environment and organisms exposed to it mutate too. Now, the same applies to humans as well, they use Ink which is not cleaned for personal and industrial purposes and the more they use, the more they degenerate into mindless monsters called “The Plagued” which makes them more Page-like. This results in tattoos and patterns all over the body and can also change the anatomy if used too much, making them into nightmares to be feared. So in order for humans to use Ink without being affected, there are many black markets where a specific type of Ink can be available which is cleaned. Inks which are semi-cleaned have slower and less-fatal effects. These types of Inks are mostly hard to acquire and are costly. Sometimes if not checked before purchase, local dealers can also sell Inks which are too dirty and can lead to common corruption and make the profit one sided. Not much known to many humans, Ink has mutated several species of insects capable of parasitising humans and let them use Ink without the drawbacks of turning into nightmares to be destroyed. They ‘eat’ the waste/dirty parts of Ink which is about to be used and leave the Essence of the Ink (which is the pure part mixed with the user’s force) to be used. These insects mostly parasitise young or middle aged people since they are the ones most likely to be exposed and using Ink in this society. These types of people who can use their Ink without being mutated in the slightest are called “Pure Ink users” or just “Inkcasters' ' for short. People who use Ink at a high level alone are called Inkcasters without needing to meet any conditions. “Old men in Ink fields where people die young are to be feared.” ~One of the famous philosophers of the era The rich can use purified ink whenever they want and survive life/death situations due to paying for high quality Ink surgery and armors/weapons imbued with Ink whereas the poorest parts of the society have to resort to being treated in ‘Ink asylums’ and special zones where they are kept due to turning into the Plagued. And if considered too dangerous, some can be executed as well. The parasite is semi-attached into the skin so it can eat Ink wastes both inside and outside of the body if used and isn’t large enough to be a nuisance during physical interaction. Most people don’t know about the parasites and according to them, some people can use Ink and mutate, while others don’t due to some kind of genetic variation. There are some types of Ink which shouldn’t be used in some ways. Parasites can also influence the person’s thoughts/emotions at times which are unnecessary as well. The quality and type of Ink varies from one Page to another and some Ink varieties are useful in some industries whereas some are useful in medical fields etc. And the type of Ink can also determine the type of effect/mutation it has on the victim or ecosystem. The Research and Discovery Council (RDC) has classified the known Ink varieties as : Red Ink : A type of Ink which is mostly used in medical fields and helps in attaching tissues and cells back together, repairing them and if pure enough; make them even sturdier and long lasting than the last time. Though it is not exactly red, but a peach colour, it has been called Red Ink since it had been found. However, if non-purified versions are used, this may result in changing of the body’s behaviour and might endanger the surgeons as well. There are separate ‘Ink Farms’ where harmless pages which have no intelligence are grown and taken care of for the sole purpose of harvesting Ink alone. Red Ink farms are few of the popular farms since injuries and accidents among the middle-class and the rich seem to be common in this era and this can be used to help them. Even helping the military plays a big role in the increase of Red Ink farms. Black Ink : Mostly used in industries and by skilled Inkcasters who use it for battle. This is said to be the most ‘freely’ usable Ink without restricting them to one or two uses and their refined version can be used and manipulated in 4 categories in which the Inkcasters are primarily categorised. I’ll touch on them soon enough. This Ink is black and slimy, while allowing it to be easily flexible for a variety of purposes with and even without Inkcasters. There are some low-level machines which have been developed to imbue them or make objects out of Ink. Though they need human intervention. It is also used as an addictive drug which an individual takes in order to heighten their sense of being in a dreaming state and allowing them to escape reality. This type of Ink is the most common in mutating the ecosystems as well. Blue Ink : One of the rarest forms of Ink which is mostly used for molding statues, objects and decorating rich antiques and imbue them with defensive properties which make them harder to be damaged. This too has to be done by an Inkcaster and can’t be used by normal machinery. This Ink is also believed to bring good luck and fortune to those around it, and according to the RDC, it brings about peace and a sense of calmness when it is present. This Ink may also be used in battle by some Inkcasters whose primary techniques and ‘abilities’ are defensive. This Ink is very expensive and can’t be seen in many middle class homes. Gray Ink : Believed to be a more corrupted form of Black Ink, this Ink isn’t anywhere near as flexible as it’s origins. In fact, it is used more like a cement to hold things and if wanted, make them slippery rather than being Inkcasted, and is probably the only type of Ink which mostly doesn’t need intervention of Inkcasters in order to be used. It is available in powder form after purification and needs to be mixed with water in order to be used. If a non-purified Grey Ink is used, it might lead to collapse and destruction of houses and structures as it is mostly used in attaching the critical parts of the construction. It isn’t as costly compared to others. These are the currently known 4 types of Ink (might add more soon lol) which are used. Almost all known forms of Ink are capable of mutating/affecting organisms and ecosystems based on their varieties’ specific Ink properties. For example, Red Ink from hospital wastes may react with bacterias found in trash cans and may m lead them to become bacteria capable of cell absorption. Hypothetically saying. There is no way to determine how something will evolve from being exposed to Ink. However, when exposed to normal or lesser than normal amounts of Ink for the first time, humans react to them in 4 (5 actually) different ways. Though they don’t mutate as much as normal humans, the Pure Ink users have other limitations. These different ways are categories of Ink users that they can be classified as : Augmenting : They can use their Essence to enhance their physical capabilities and their body with Ink on their aura (used to call a lump of Essence). Due to the Essence being close to the body, it imposes extreme fatigue or muscle pain if used too much. Sometimes, this can even result in breaking of body parts and fusing with the Ink causing excruciating pain. If used well and evolving their Ink into a new state, the Ink can be fused with the body parts without causing excruciating pain and be used to ‘shapeshift’ slightly by the users. Many laborers in the industries are picked if their category is augmenting because they would be more efficient. This also leads to constant search of Augmentors in the industry through trial and error processes and this leads to the constant growth of industrialization. Shaping : They can utilise their Essence in an amoeba kind of shape which is not absolute or fixed. They can shape their Aura into things or shapes and use them in battle. For example, an individual can turn his Ink into threads and create various techniques out of it. Due to them being around the body, it severely affects the brain and can cause headaches and migraine if used too much without any protection. It even affects the senses sometimes. The Ink floats around their body and the parasite eats it, leading to an increase in Essence(and categories). Enhancing : They utilise their sticky Essence which can be used on other objects and imbue their Ink on it in order to use it in combat. This can be done in many ways. They get more and more hot the more they utilise Ink on objects and possibly weapons. So while they fight, they have to worry about their body temperature increasing and them getting hot. They can also fuse the object with the Ink and their body parts in order to prevent the stealing or knockback of weapons during battle. For example, an Inkcaster who is a pure Enhancer who can only use enhancing techniques, can Enhance 2 daggers and use them with more momentum or strength. But, this category is more efficient when used along with any other category and not so combat-oriented on it’s own. Manipulation : They can use their Essence to manipulate and alter the properties of Ink. This ability can also be used on Ink imposed/Ink-made objects if it doesn't have anyone else's Essence on it. If used too much or a high amount, it can lead to them giving in to their parasite and their thoughts being manipulated more and more until they can't think of anything to do during battle. By manipulating, it means that they can freely move their Ink anywhere they want, not limited by physics. For example, they can launch threads of Ink in the air, and when the enemy dodges it, they can manipulate it to correctly hit the target. Having this as an innate affinity is rare among people. This can also be used to mimic/reconstruct the properties of Ink to some other substance or a new imaginary substance. But this needs a high level of practise/expertise over Ink itself. But the reconstruction factor only works on refined Ink and not non-refined Ink. Ingesting : Believed to be an internal form of Augmentation, they can use their Essence present inside the body to increase their biological capabilities like more efficient neurons, more sensitive nervous system etc. This act is also said to be the only form of Inkcasting where everyone can use it regardless of their Essence category. But using this causes various side effects such as substance addiction, fight with the immune system, changing of the body’s anatomy faster etc. Abilities/Techniques : Every Inkcaster who is in a moderately high level of Inkcasting/Essence control can create their own abilities/techniques rather than simply use the basics of the category they’re bound to. Normal humans can only use their 1 category whereas the Pure Inkcasters can implement Essence of other categories into their ability as well. For example, a normal human can make it so that their ability increases physical strength while they’re an Augmentor. Whereas a Pure one, who is originally an Augmentor, can also implement the category Manipulation into it and make the Ink harder. Enhancing ----------------------------------------------- Augmenting ‘ ‘ ‘ ‘ ‘ Ingesting ‘ ‘ ‘ ‘ ‘ ‘ ‘ ‘ ‘ Shaping ---------------------------------------------------- Manipulating Now, an Enhancing Pure has more opportunities and chances to base his ability off Enhancing/Shaping/Augmenting. But it can also use manipulation as a factor. There can only be 3 maximum categories being implemented into crafting an ability. An Inkcaster can only have one primary ability and a few techniques based off of it, because the Essence and Ink can only hold some memory over it and cannot possess many abilities when used by the Inkcaster. The Pure Inkcaster will also only have limitations from their primary category even when they borrow the other categories. Examples of an ability : Smoke Dagger : The Inkcaster imbues the Ink onto their two daggers and when needed they can turn some of that Ink into smoke in order to confuse/deviate their enemies while also simultaneously attacking them. This requires a high level of expertise because they are changing its physical state as well and not only it’s strength. There are tattoos which can be imbued on their body as a curse and let’s the Inkcaster draw out more and more of their Essence reserves and helps them reach new heights for a temporary time, but at the cost being extreme limits of their affinity or excruciating pain and death without making them die immediately but more like a torture. For now this is what I've prepared. So what do you think of this system as a whole? Do you have any questions? One of my world's strongest Inkcasters will be answering it. Edit : I just realized that I suck in formatting lol. So basically all 5 of the categories are connected with Ingesting in the center and other four in their respective positions.
  14. Ugh, this is gonna be a kind of long post so thanks in advance if you bear with me Btw, EC = extended consciousness The Ink : Ink is a black liquid/slimy substance which can be extracted from the bodies of Pages, a race which come in various shapes and sizes based on their environment and evolution. Ink is not made available to the public and only some specific organizations, hospitals, hunters and some other independent organizations have their hands on a large amount of this substance. And of course, there's the black market which obtain this through many means. The quality of Ink varies from one page to another while some age over time, some get destroyed over time. Even their compositions are different. There have been efforts to mine Ink from the fossil fuels take from dead bodies of pages as well. Sometimes, it affects the entire environment it is present in. For example, while being mixed in with the soil, it can react with a tree's 'Essence' or a plant's 'essence' and shape that tree and the environment into Ink-based nightmares. Only evolution can determine what it will turn into. But Ink can only be used by Humans who are the 'Plagued'. The Plagued are a small fraction of people who aren't that rare, and have an average ratio of being 4/10 people. A unspecified time period ago, a disease or 'parasite' had gone in rampage and had taken over the entire population of the nation in a plague. This plague left some evolving immune to the parasite while others evolving with it. Over time, the parasite which evolved within them became an 'extended consciousness' of the person which can also emotionally influence a person while having a physical form which is attached to the backbone. The people who evolved with it are the Plagued. The Plagued when awakened through a traumatic experience or being exposed to a large amount of Ink, have to make a pact with their 'parasite' in order to make it not control them and lend them power. This is because up until that time, it had been living in the body without any restrictions so you have to ask it's 'Name' and make it submit. While this happens, the user's body is in a state of trance while they interact with the EC. Their parasite builds up and releases particles called the 'Essence' which helps in bending the Ink and using it to your will. When an individual/living organism is exposed to large enough amounts of Essence without any protection or even with protection of Essence, it starts to succumb and decompose into biological dirt. An individual's Essence can either be aggressive, malicious, defense etc. depending on the person and how their thoughts are being influenced by the EC. People who use Ink with their Essence are called 'Inkcasters'. An Inkcaster can only have one primary 'ability' as their Essence cannot be freely manipulated into various abilities since it has only limited memory. There are 4 categories of Essence within Inkcasters which the different variants of Parasites forces upon them : Augmenting : The Essence is closed to their body and when Ink is exposed, with the right training and talent, they can enhance their physical capabilities and their body. Due to the Essence being close to the body, it imposes extreme fatigue or muscle pain if used too much. Sometimes, this can even result in breaking of body parts. Shaping : Their Essence are surrounding them in an amoeba kind of shape which is not absolute or fixed. They can shape their Aura into things or shapes and use them in battle. For example, an individual can turn his Ink into threads and create various techniques out of it. Due to them being around the body, it severely affects the brain and can cause headaches and migraine if used too much without any protection. It even affects the senses sometimes. Enhancing : They have a sticky Essence which can be used on other objects and stick their Ink on it in order to use it in combat. This can be done in many ways. But in order to expel the essence, the EC takes control of the sweat glands. So while they fight, they have to worry about their body temperature increasing and them getting hot. Manipulation : They have a constantly moving/bending Essence which can be used to manipulate and alter the properties of Ink. This ability can also be used on Ink imposed/Ink-made objects if it doesn't have anyone else's Essence on it. If used too much or a high amount, it can lead to them giving in to their parasite and their thoughts being manipulated more and more until they can't think of anything to do during battle. There are also 7 different substances which can be mixed with the Ink using the Essence to activate in order to get varying effects. Right now I haven't decided on these 7 substances so I'll put that aside. There are tattoos too, where the Ink can be used to make tattoos in order to increase the Essence output and efficiency but is dangerous. An Inkcaster can create and form their ability from their respective categories with great training and patience while also putting up with the parasites. (Sometimes the EC can be annoying because they are literally you talking to you) But what I wanted to say from this post is that, I have been thinking of variants of parasites which fall into a category between any 2 categories. Which is having a primary category but their essence also has a sub category of the other. And since there are 4 categories (visualise a square), It will be an equal chance for any category to have a sub-category from any other category (inspiration from HxH but it's a square lol). What do you think of this system as a whole? What type of Inkcaster would you like to be? Do you have any suggestions to improve this? Once again, thanks! It would be a really great help if you comment down what you think!
  15. Okay, I’m building this magic system called Corruption, but I have problems to define powers for its users. I want to use the idea of Sin to divide them in 9 different groups. What could I do? Corruption Corruption is the magic of bad feelings. Those who can access this magic are called Plagues Initiation For a person to become a Plague, first they need to be broken, this happens through physical or mental trauma, this cracks the soul of the person and allows an Impurity to get inside the person’s soul. For an Impurity to get inside of a person, that person must commit a Sin, an action for they cannot forgive themselves, starting to see themselves as monsters. Those who don’t feel remorse or pain for their actions cannot access this magic. The same can be said of those who can kill someone believing it’s right. It’s curious how animals in their limited reasoning can become Plagues too. Impurities Some call them demons, shadows, malevolence. Impurities are born from the collective pain of humankind, and they are attracted by the negative emotions of a person. Impurities work in a parasitic way, they feed upon the soul of their guests, causing at the same time Plagues a need for blood, to avoid Impurities feed upon their souls. Mechanics The more they use their magic, the thirst of blood increases. If they don’t drink blood, eventually the Impurity will consume their whole soul. This magic changes their body to pair it with the mental image they have of themselves, so they end up becoming literal monsters.
  16. Hey. As the title say, I’m building a magic system based on the concept of Ki, but I don’t want it to be like the ones in DB, Naruto, and the others. I know HxH has a better system and I’m already reading it for references, but still I want to ask you if someone has some idea to help me shape it. I like the idea of JJBA, where Hamon can be transferred through organic matter but can destroy inorganic objects. I’m searching for ideas of the sort. My own idea is to organize it like a hierarchical system: There are thresholds, when you go through a threshold you are more powerful, have better control of your spiritual energy, and you can do more things with it. Of course, you need physical and mental training to be able to go throught it. -Threshold of birth -Threshold of fear -Threshold of pain -Threshold of suffering -Threshold of pain
  17. i was walking in the snow this morning, and i had a idea, we should make a magic system, because why not. if anyone wants to make a magic system, put in your idea, and if this works the details will be fleshed out, that or this thread will die in no time flat, i'm not sure.
  18. If you were to have a person that has a mix of two aspects of a magic system, what would they be? (eg. elscaller elantrian, Copper cloud with fifth heightening) I think a eleantrian that can store connection might be able to manipulate where he can pull the dor, which would be nice. a copper cloud with a large amount of breath could probably suppress the color aura to make them less suspicious. a coinshot windrunner would be the zoomiest thing. I think that’s my favorite. You could half your weight, fly about in so many ways, it would be great.
  19. Helou, everybody. Greetings from México. In my previous post I told you that I'm writing 14 magic systems for the world of Anima Beyond Fantasy, because I want to write some stories set in this world, but the magic of Anima it's made to play and not for storytelling. So I want to ask you for some brainstorming that help me to do some Brandon Sanderson inspired magic systems. Why 14? Because in this world there are 14 entities we can call "gods": The Beryls, Daughters of the Light; and Shajads, Lords of Darkness. I will give you some lore. We have another two entities, the Yin-Yang of this world: C'iel, Lady of the Light; and Gaira, the Dark Lord (one isn't good, and the other isn't evil). C'iel is associated with light, the element that represents man's most positive emotions, such as love, happiness and hope. It's philosophical principle is the pursuit of equality for al Gaïa's peoples, in the hopes that one day, order and prosperity will be achieved. Nevertheless, C'iel has a negative face too, and at times it does approve of measures that almost betray the very ideals she stands for. Gaira is associated with darkness and many of man's most torturous behaviors and feelings. It's ideology stands for Gaïa's evolution, developement and stability, even if he path to achieving is a terrible one. Pain, sorrow, even hatred and strife are only nuances that need to be overcome to reach progress and finally, happiness. From its standpoint, the most powerful individuals must become leaders for the rest. The strong rule over the weak and protect them. We could call C'iel and Gaira the "mother" and "father" of Beryls and Shajads respectively; but these two aren't that important to me, and in my story they divide from something like Adonalsium, and later they divide in Beryls and Shajads. In the next section I left you a description of each Beryl and Shajad, the concepts I'm interested in developing and my own ideas for each one at this point, feel free to make recommendations, brainstorming, critique, ideas of how the systems could relate among them, and whatever you want contribute to. Some guidelines I'd like to implement, feel free to ignore them: -Each Beryl and Shajad has a number, the magic system needs to reflect that number in some way. (The number will be next to the name of each Beryl and Shajad) -Each magic system needs to have a fuel, a focus and some way of Initiation - I'm already working on a story for the magic of Gabriel: Emotional Spectrum, starring by twins.
  20. Laws: Gems of different types can hold magic in the form of different elements. Ruby = Heat/Cold Amethyst= Kinetic Diamond= Light Sapphire= Electricity Emeralds= Gravity Magical energy is known as Scelce. The way a gem can express Scelce is through how they are cut, focusing energy at sharper points of the facets. Higher quality gemstones are more powerful. Gemstones change weight depending on the amount of energy in them. Larger gemstones hold more energy. The cutting of a gem makes it functional, whan uncut they are inert. Energy is stored and transferred in crystalline structures, and metals and inner gems transfer energy. Opal stores pure energy, that can be transformed into any of the 4 types. Mages are people who go into battle with a large gem on their back, with gloves lined with wires connecting back to the gem. The wires stimulate different parts of the gem with certain somatic motions. As you use this, the wires overheat, and will snap if you are not careful. Multiple gems can be used, but this will cause the wires to overheat faster Scelsi are the higher born of the population. These people have interbreed with a native species of humanoids scec’ar, who are naturally born with one of the 5 scelics, or magical gemstones. They have gemstones inside them on their spinal cord, in between their shoulder blades. Those born with Opal are commonly known as Scelomancers. Their nerves act like the wires. Scelci’s gems are like their life support system, and if broken, they will die. When gems act as spells, you have to use gloves studded with metal, and the more studs touch the gem, the more power is exerted, and the length of the finger, or in a machine, the wire, determines the range by inches converted to feet multiplied by 10. For a ray of energy, this is multiplied by 3, and projects with 45⁰ vertex. For a ball, the range is multiplied by 2 before the ball explodes, and the ball will also explode when it comes into contact with a solid surface. Onyx absorbs energy, expanding constantly until it is 3 times the original size, at which point it detonates in a massive maelstrom of sharp onyx shards 3 seconds after it is activated by metal or a hard impact. Onyx acts similar to a black hole, in that it slowly releases stored energy, but not in usable amounts When an energised gem is broken, it releases all energy stored inside of it in a massive blast, and in a flash of light as the crystalline bonds holding energy shatter, and the gem is left in small chunks, with a fraction of their original energy. Scenyl are scelci that are born with onyx, and absorb magic directed towards them, and release it slowly over time, and this power is limited, and they must wait for the energy to dissipate before using their abilities again. Scelci must first absorb energy before using it Scelomantic abilities are passed through heredity, but when two different classes are mixed, the male ability is passed on. Genetically, the ability to be a full Scelomancer is recessive. Scenyl abilities are also recessive, but are dominant over Scelomantic abilities Stones have more very subtle effects not known to the general human populations. These effects are known by the native people. For example, limestone attracts charged gems, and is used to extract microdiamonds from pumice Scecerlon- undead made with opal/fossil pseudomorphs that keep them alive, trapping their soul and allowing control by cutting instructions into the crystalline structure and using brain coral to manipulate the soul trapped in a harvested gem core, which acts as a life support. A microorganism that is an evolution of the gut bacteria of the natives. This weaves a lair of brain coral over the gem core, which allows for muscle memory and will allow rapid regeneration. With nonmetals and metalloids, and non primary gems the size determines the power. Limestone- attracts charged gemstones of a type that touch them Granite- minute cutting Microdiamonds = Flash Powder Bone- life energy/soul anchor, only non-living bones can store this. It is not stored in the form of scelce. Coral- minor memory, like muscle memory Brain coral- control of life energy Pseudomorphs- store a mix of the materials and the original crystalline structure in a fifty fifty mix, and opal/fossil pseudomorphs allow for temporary reanimation of an organism, with a gem core acting as a soul anchor. In the natives, the gem core is a pseudomorph of bone and the gem they have. The native population has an innate knowledge of gemstones and crystalline structures. For the Human population, they have mutated gut bacteria that form brain coral-like structures to allow for control Pumice- durability Pyrite- glows when near other activated scelomantic magics. Ice- stores scelce, when activated, burns up in a puff of steam. Bloodstone- Bonding The native people only have a rudimentary understanding of these new prospects, and no understanding of pseudomorphs or bone at this time. The Selci have no understanding of these more complex ideas. History: The Sec’ar were a peaceful nation that lived long before humans did. They had a tendency to bond to nature's primal aspects, until they discovered the first gemstones in the mountains. For years, the mountains have been in their legends, towering peaks blossoming with elemental energy. Here, they found gemstones in creatures, plants, and even in ground. They saw these glistening jewels, glowing with a radiance so beautiful no words could do it justice, a light that would sparkle, flare, and dance before their very eyes. They saw all of the creatures harnessing this energy, maintaining the balance. As they stood in awe, A great roar shook the mountains, as a winged shape descended from the clouds. They watched as a great, reptilian beast with four, gargantuan muscled legs, batlike wings that must have been over one hundred meters across, and a long, spined, thin tail snaked behind it. The Dawn Bringer. Glistening with the radiance in the gems, he landed, lowering his enormous head, on a long, snaking neck, and spoke. “I see you have discovered my home, the Crystal Peaks. Why are you here?” he said, his voice like great thunder, rumbling in their bones. “We see the great glowing stones, filled with light, and wonder where they come from.” they replied, awed by the sheer size of this Dragon, it could have been a mountain itself! “You have discovered the sacred stones, and the the great energy known as Selce that resides within them. These gemstones contain a power beyond your wildest dreams, able to shape the world around us, and hold the energies that give us life. You must not abuse the powers that surround you, lest you upset the great balance, and disrupt the natural order. But all these years, with this power surrounding you as you searched, you did this, so now I will grant you a great gift: Gemstones of your own.” The people suddenly felt a great force surging through them, invigorating them, and they felt themselves beginning to change, as gemstones formed within them. Awed by the power gifted to them, they worshiped the Dawn Bringer, praising his radiant justice. Slowly, he taught them how to harness their abilities to protect the natural order, with one warning: “Do not share this power, for your race alone has earned it, and such a power could end the great world as we know it.” The Sec’ar descended the mountain, and as time passed, the Dawn Bringer seeped into legend, and his warning was lost. Hundreds of years later, a new race emerged before their eyes, one that was intelligent and quick witted. But they did not respect the natural order. One day, a young girl, the heir to the throne, and her friends walked out of their village, wanting to see what was beyond the forest. Each of these girls had a gem, the heir, Ariella, had an opal. Her other friends had gems, one of each, one emerald, one amethyst, one ruby, one sapphire, one diamond, and one onyx. Ariella was stunningly beautiful, with flowing, golden hair, a slim, shapely body, she was perfect, and adored by every boy in the village. As they journeyed, they at long last reached the edge of the forest, where they saw a handsome young boy riding a horse. As their eyes met, they felt like they were made for eachother. This young boy, the prince of a great human kingdom, became engaged to her, and eventually married, as her friends were married to other great and powerful leaders, and they mated. At first, there were worries that the baby would die, but it survived. The child was born, and it looked like a human, but had powers of the Secar. When the Dawn Bringer heard of this, he was furious, and immediately flew to the great city. “You have betrayed my warning, and now the world will suffer if I do not stop this.” He laid siege to the city, toppeling stone walls as if they were made of wet paper, shrugging off arrows as if they were childrens toys, slaughtering armies as if they were pigs for the butcher. The human’s could do nothing against him as he wielded the might of a thousand hurricanes compared to which they were like ants before a bear. Desperate to spare the city, and the prince she loved, Ariella offered to the king to sacrifice her in exchange for the dragon sparing the city. The prince cried, for he couldn't bear the thought of life without his love, but he knew it was the only way to save their child. Reluctantly, he called the dragon, and explained the deal. The dragon, still furious, accepted, for he understood the strength it took to do something like this. Although furious, the love shown by the prince softened his stone heart, and instead of killing the princess, he took her back to her father, and promised to forever enforce the border between these two nations. To help him accomplish this task, he took the biggest gemstones he could find, and breathed life into them. As he did so, the 50 glistening gems slowly transformed into eggs, dragon eggs. Over the next 9 months, the dragons inside grew, developing gems of their own, and they hatched. Made to be in the Dawn Bringer's Image, the dragons each had one gem, which could be any of the 6 except for Opel, whose power was reserved for the Dawn Bringer alone. However, there were once 60 gems, but during one of the Dawn Bringer's patrols, 10 were stolen by the humans, two of each type, one boy one girl, who were jealous of this power, and took the eggs, raising them to be allies of the humans, defending them against enemy dragon attack. The other 50, 25 boys and 25 girls, 10 dragons, 5 boys 5 girls, of each type, and their children are forever destined to guard the border, to prevent something like this from happening ever again. As the years progressed, the original guardians had children, who were the first wild dragons, and would not be needed for a long time, for the guardians cannot die of old age, and no one dares try to kill them. Now however, the Dawn Bringer no longer patrols the border wall, and has gone missing. He has been trapped in an enormous temple of bone that is nigh indestructible because it is covered in pumice, and is a floating island controlled by the main villain in the series, which has yet to be determined. The bone has trapped his soul while his body is tortured by the villain, and is forced to reveal the secrets of pseudomorphs, which are very common in this world. There, it was revealed that old opal fossils can be resurrected, and given life, soulless life, life in which they are nothing but puppets to this villain, and without the Dawn Bringer to stop this army, all hope is lost. He wishes to tear down the wall, and gain access to the crystal peaks, and without the Dawn Bringer, it will be impossible to stop him.

Life energy, when released, acts as an extremely potent mutagen. This energy also provides rapid healing, but if not used continuously, the target will die from cancerous growth and mutations. If exerted purposefully, they can determine whether or not the healing causes tumors. The Scelscelari have incredible regenerative capabilities, and can and often are used for assasination.
  22. Recently, I have decided that I want to start my rough draft for a book I want to write. It exists in an epic fantasy setting similar to a D&D setting. I want to create one or multiple magic systems for this story that I want to be unique but at the same time reflect my love of Dungeons & Dragons with their magic system (arcane and divine). I want to make sure it is simple to understand but I want to make sure there are limitations, costs, and weaknesses to how it operates and can be accessed. I've read over Sanderson's Laws of Magic and I think they have helped me create some guidelines for myself but I still don't know where to start. I don't know how much I should add to it before I expand on it more and more. I feel like I'm in the dark on this one.
  23. I was recently reading a bit about Old Magic in Roshar on the Coppermind Wiki. I was thinking about Boons and how they operate. When a person gains a Boon, can it be anything they want, like gaining the ability to control electricity or reality, or are there specific limitations on what kinds of things can be gained through Old Magic? Can I get the ability of one of the forms of the Singers or even become an Allomancer on Roshar with a Boon?
  24. hey guys, thanks for your help, it has been wonderful, and I need the CC counsels help again, with the updated version: Laws: Gems of different types can hold magic in the form of different elements. Energy is stored and transferred in crystalline structures, and metals and innert gems transfer energy. Scenyl abilities are also recessive, but are dominant over Scelomantic abilities. History: The Sec’ar were a peaceful nation that lived long before humans did. They had a tendency to bond to nature's primal aspects, until they discovered the first gemstones in the mountains. For years, the mountains have been in their legends, towering peaks blossoming with elemental energy. Here, they found gemstones in creatures, plants, and even in themselves. 25. I was wondering if there are any theories as to what silver might do if burned by an Allomancer or used to store something by a Feruchemist.
