  1. dead-moth

    plants.

    From the album: crab land

This is really rough but I made the file so big I couldn't add any more layers so like ...... I don't wanna finish it ...... neh There she is, the important plant grower!!
  2. What song would lift sing to the head of the Skybreakers?
  3. From the album: crab land

hug that man, lift. Hug that man.
  4. From the album: stormlight archive art

Drawn by me Love my little edgedancer!
  5. I have been listening to the audiobook version of Arcanum Unbounded recently and something stood out to me. The specific way that Lift uses the food she has eaten to facilitate her surgebinding is very similar to how sandmasters use the water in their own bodies to facilitate investiture on Taldain. This leads me to one of three conclusions,: 1) One of her parents were a worldhopper from Taldain and her unique surgebinding is a result of having parents from two different magic systems. 2) She herself is somehow a worldhopper from Taldain resulting in something similar (though I think this unlikely.) 3) Knowing that she went to the Nightcrawler to ask for a favour, is it possible that the Nightcrawler is a sliver (similar to the Stormfather for Honor) nor of cultivation as has been previously guessed but of Autonomy? Thoughts? Comments?
  6. As I was re-reading AU this afternoon, I had my Pandora on shuffle and stumbled upon the perfect song for Edgedancer as I opened to chapter 1. I would like to propose:
  7. I have always been fascinated by the sheer potential of Lift. I'm salivating with excitement just by remembering that she gets a short in the collection. I'm not a creep though, trust me. I have said in the past that we should spike her, and the obvious choice of spikes would be allomantic steel. If we gave her the power of pseudo-flight, that would be epic. In the preview chapter for her short, she slides down a hill with her friction reduction, and since she wasn't going fast enough for her taste, she removed friction with the air too, confirming my suspicion that this was possible. A Coinshot with no air resistance would be kinda ridiculous. On that note, the real reason for this post. Question: if we also gave her the two bendalloy spikes necessary to compound food, could she use that to fuel her food-to-stormlight power? If so, that is beyond amazing, that is godlike. That is three spikes, which IIRC Suit says is the limit before Harmony can influence you (for a human, since apparently when you shoot a third spike into your kandra wife, that's enough). If you don't mind one more, giving her a another steel spike to give her steel compounding would also be really cool. If you put in all four, and it works properly, you have a person with superspeed and flight with effectively no terminal velocity who is even better at healing than a bloodmaker because she can make as much Stormlight as she darn well pleases. Never mind her regeneration surge. Or the fact that she can have a shardblade from her spren. Or the boosts to physical capability granted by that much Stormlight. Or speed bubbles. She could attain escape velocity without any difficulty. I wig out every time I consider this. The only real factor is a question like what Khriss asked Wax at the party. What exactly does Bendalloy store, and is that the same thing Lift is converting? She converts food she has eaten (interestingly, this is a lot like allomancy) or her fat stores (a lot like feruchemy). I assume this means calories, which is what Bendalloy stores according to the Bands ars arcanum. Any rejections of the assumed premises of a spiked person even being able to compound, or a refutation of the Bendalloy hack, while disappointing, would be interesting. All right Brandon, we had better see some spikes in her future, or I will be furious over the wasted potential. I can't believe that Nahz, Khriss, and Hoid even let Darkness try to kill her (I realize how stupid that actually is on multiple levels, but still). She is too interesting as a research subject. Even if the bendalloy wouldn't hack right, a single steel spike or two would definitely work and still be truly incredible. With bendalloy hacks, I could see her creating enough stormlight to do some ascend-y type things. That would use a lot of Bendalloy though. She needs to get rich quick.
  8. If you gave Lift an unkeyed Nourishment metalmind, could she fill it and then Tap it later for Investiture? What if you gave her an unkeyed Nicrosilmind - could she eat and fill it with food? Also, do we know if she can eat in addition to Breathing in Stormlight, or instead of? Fun question: Who would eat more at an all-you-can-eat restaurant; Sarene or Lift?
  9. What is Lift? She can metabolize food directly to Stormlight, which I at first though might be an attribute of Edgedancers but Wyndle doesn't seem to know why either. Granted, he is an inexperienced spren, he says so himself. Lift also partially exists in the Cognitive realm and can touch spren. How is that possible? The only thing I can think of is if that was her boon, but I don't think she would be able to ask that as she doesn't know what the cognitive realm is. Dang, she's complicated. I can't believe she's only an interlude character, she has so many unanswered questions.
  10. So I'm pretty sure there was a new Lift chapter from book 3 but despite me searching for an hour now cant find it. Anyone got a link?
  11. So here comes a group talking about Cosmere in Taiwan, we're called "17th Shardglass". And we talked about "cosmere cuisines" pretty often, even Mistwraiths could be edible, or at least we believe so XD Anywayy Presenting: Roasted Whitespine Cheek Meat with Lift Fine I'm not sure whether Whitespines have cheek or not but, that's it lol
  12. I don't know if this has already been brought up, but I realized something. I was re-reading the Lift chapter in WoR, when I realized that Wyndle is referring to Cultivation as Mother. I thought that Spren were children, rather splinters, of Honor, so is it possible that Spren could be literal children of Honor and Cultivation? Or at least some Spren. Because we know that they were romantically involved, coming to Roshar. Or, like Feurochemy is a mix of Ruin and Preservation, maybe some orders of the Knights Radiant are a mix of Honor and Cultivation. Although, I am also pretty sure that the Old Magic is of Cultivation. Sorry... Not so much a theory, rather a bunch of thought provoking questions!
  13. Exciting news! The Stormlight novella--with Lift--that is coming out this fall with the short story collection, Arcanum Unbounded, is now complete, according to comments on Brandon on Reddit. This short story collection is sounding more and more awesome as time goes on. It will contain Mistborn: Secret History, and every published cosmere short story, like Sixth of Dusk, The Eleventh Metal (which was seen in the Mistborn Adventure Game), and The Emperor's Soul. Someone asked on Reddit if it would have more Marsh viewpoints and Brandon responded that it probably would not. It already had stories from Scadrial, and it was really missing Roshar. A few people asked if there would be a Nalthis short story in the collection, and Brandon's responses have been: "If I can squeeze in something from Nalthis, I will." and "It's on the list of 'things to do for the collection if possible' but I need to get the Stormlight story in first." So, maybe? But don't be disappointed if not. Also in Arcanum Unbounded will be something amazing for cosmere buffs: Khriss (the writer of the Ars Arcanums in each book) will have an introduction to each planet, and it will contain a map of solar systems in the cosmere. Hype. Of course, Brandon has a ton of other things on his agenda, like this little thing called Oathbringer, the third Stormlight novel. Well, it's past the halfway mark now on its first draft! UPDATE: Moshe Feder, Brandon's editor, has finished editing the Lift novella. He reveals the Lift novella's length: 40,000 words! To compare, that's longer than The Emperor's Soul, and the long Lift interlude in Words of Radiance was about 10,000 words long. This means Arcanum Unbounded is going to give you a ton of value for your money, especially if you haven't read The Emperor's Soul yet. Moshe only has glowing things to say about the novella, saying it "glows with 'awesomeness'" and calls it a "new mini-masterpiece." So, get hyped. The article above also has been changed to indicate that, according to many sellers, Arcanum Unbounded does contain the Emperor's Soul.
  14. There are a few things about Nalan that have me curious about his (possible) abilities... and possibly the Skybreakers' as well. It's not really a proper theory or anything... but maybe you guys can help me figure this out and clear up my confusion. How many Nalan are we really dealing with, here? Here is where my confusion begins in Words of Radiance: Distance - (Interlude-2) We see Nalan in Iri hunting Ym. (Interlude-9) We see Nalan (aka Darkness) in Azir hunting Lift. (Chapter 88) We see Nalan in the Frostlands reviving Szeth (and offering him Nightblood). Iri, Azir, and the Frostlands are pretty far apart on the map of Roshar. Iri is far NorthWest, the Frostlands are far SouthEast, and Azir is nearer to the middle (but it's a little closer to Iri than the Frostlands). In any case, Nalan seems to be covering a lot of ground awfully fast during the events of WoR. How? I wonder how much time it really takes to travel across practically all of Roshar like that. If he is 'flying', then isn't that about the most overt way of getting around that he could possibly choose? If he is traveling by foot, then how would he cover so much ground so fast? Nalan's Minions- When he hunts Ym in Iri, he has no minions. When he appears in Azir, he has two minions. When he appears in the Frostlands, he again has no minions (and is carrying Nightblood). His minions are extremely knowledgeable about stormlight, investiture, and the like. One of them even has a shardblade... So I doubt that these minions were a couple of nobodies just drafted to help Nalan out in Azir only... and only for one case. Time - I'd be willing to believe Nalan simply travelled in one single direction during the events of WoR (First Iri, then Azir, then to the Frostlands) if it weren't for the time he spent on each case. In each case (Ym/Lift/Szeth) Nalan made it a point to explain how much work he'd put into each person. Nalan to Ym = "I had to look very hard to discover your indiscretion." Nalan to Lift = "Even the chaotic can be predictable with proper study.” (Presumably referring to her escape patterns, habits, etc.) Nalan to Szeth = "You? Not worthy? I watched you destroy yourself in the name of order, watched you obey your personal code when others would have fled or crumbled. Szeth-son-Neturo, I watched you keep your word with perfection..." On top of this, Lift already had prior experiences with him and knew he was dangerous. By the time she first saw him enter the palace during her story arc, she already had a name for him in her mind - Darkness. He seems to spend an awful lot of time and energy in each case and location he visits. Even understanding their laws and abiding by them. The mountains of paperwork he and his minions prepared in Azir to apprehend Lift could not have been an overnight task. To some extent, Nalan seems to have some roots in these places. His emotionlessness - When talking to Szeth: "He spoke the words calmly, without emotion." While chasing Lift: “'What was that?' Darkness asked, his voice cold, emotionless." Talking to Ym: “'You were an accomplice to murder,' the man said, pulling his gloves on more tightly, first one hand, then the other. He spoke with such a stark lack of emotion, he could have been conversing about the weather." Notable words from Lift: "He didn’t curse in annoyance. A fellow should curse. Made people feel real when they did that. But of course, Darkness wasn’t a real person. Of that, though little else, she was sure." and she also referred to him having "dead eyes" when she first saw him. All of Nalan's emotionlessness makes me feel like something more is going on than just a personality flaw. Are we dealing with more than one Nalan? Is it possible that we are dealing with Nalan's self-puppets somehow? ...mere husks of "Nalan Prime" whom we haven't really seen yet? Can he somehow use his Division surge to split thereby making "copies" of himself? Is the Nightwatcher involved? ...Or is he getting the help of an Elsecaller? Is he 'flying' and somehow avoiding detection from the general population? What the crap is going on? Am I missing something super simple, here?
  15. This probably has been said before but I could not find a topic on it. So we know that When I was reading the interlude of Lift I came across a intriguing passage. Sorry for quoting such a long passage. Your thoughts?
  16. Ok, so we know that Lift exists more in the cognitive realm than other people, which gives her unique abilities. She can turn food into stormlight, she can see spren differently, and even touch them. The one I want to focus on is the fact that she sees Wyndle as a vine, not as crystals and dust, or whatever normal people see. That got me thinking about Rock. He can see spren, even when they don't want to be seen. Now, Wyndle doesn't choose to not be seen, he is just very hard to see. But it still begs the question, what would Rock see if he looked at Wyndle? I personally think he'd see the vines. What I'm driving at is that I think that what Rock does is the same thing that Lift does, just less so. I think bathing in the Horneater shardpool dragged him just a tiny bit into the cognitive realm, just like Lift was. But, again, less so. I got pretty excited when I thought of this, but I'm not so sure if its actually all that exciting. I apologize if this is common knowledge and I'm just over reacting. But on the flip side, if it is a new idea, then hey, I thought of it first. Although I'm sure I didn't.
  17. Apologies if this has been brought up before. It's been a while since I frequented the Stormlight board. My question is a simple one: why doesn't the Abrasion Surge allow its users to slick the palms of their hands and the soles of their feet? It seems a fairly arbitrary limitation, and the closest I can come to a logical solution is that somehow the calluses on these parts of the body interfere with the Surge. Is there a better explanation?
  18. What would happen if the characters from the Stormlight Archive existed in our universe at our time period. if they did then what social media would they use. Lift would definitely use Tumblr, probably as a fandom or comedy blogger and her blog would certainly be food orientated. Wit i think would use twitter. his entire existence on the internet would be to insult people in short tweets Shallan would use DeviantArt no more to say about that! I feel Adolin, Kaladin and Danilar would be competing Youtubers (i'd subscribe to them!) How about the other characters, what would they use?
  19. We have two cases of Shards being used in a digestive system. First, we have Allomancy which (I think) let's people control their digestion of metals to "burn" them. Then, we have Lift being able to metabolize stormlight. A tentative connection to this is breathing in stormlight. Kaladin, Moash, Dalinar, and Shallan all breath in the stormlight, freeing them from the need of oxygen. I have two(ish) questions. 1. Do the worms in the Aviars gain their power from the different bird meet they eat? 2. Does having access to a magic system change the genetic make up of the body to be able to use the magic? (3. If number two is correct and if the tentative connection turns out to be a good one, does stormlight replace air?)
  20. Ok so Lift may be my new favorite character. So much spunk and just plain badass! Hopefully we will hear about her and potentially the Reshi Isles more in the next book. I think what I am most curious about is why she has been given special treatment, being able to collect stormlight from food and have physical contact with Wyndle (her spren). Also that jerk Darkness, really anxious to find out whats up with him. Any thoughts?
  21. Since there's a poll about who Shallan will end up with, I did the same for Kaladin
  22. We all know about five radiants. Dalinar, Kaladin, Shallan, Renarin and Jasnah. Well actually six if counting Szeth. But who are the other four? (presuming there is one per order to be revealed) Obviously Lift is one. There are many speculations about Adolin becoming one but I´m not quite sure about that. My guesses for three more is definitely Rysn, maybe two of the following: Wikim, Sebarial, Elhokar, Tarah (if she is alive) Would be cool if Rlain would become one or Eshonai (who probably is alive since the fourth book is supposed to tell about her life) What do you think?
  23. So, something I've been wondering for a while: does Lift actually climb up Wyndle when she climbs walls in the palace or is that her increasing her friction? Wyndle notes that he doesn't know why she can touch him, but it feels more like the Friction surge to me. Is that her way of understanding what she does?
  24. So this can be just a general discussion of the nature of the orders of the Knights Radiant's, but I wanted to ask a specific question based on a few simple elements of a few of the "Radiant's reborn". First two subjects: Jasnah and Shallan based on what we learned in WoK, they both were soulcasters, which was, if I'm not mistaken, an order of the KR? It has been mentioned a couple times in each book that some of the KR's could soulcast. Is this ability to soulcast just for special people in the KR, is it randomly dispersed between the orders, or can some members of the KR be apart of two orders? Second subject: Lift In her interlude, she grew vines very rapidly to break a window, and she obviously had the ability to manipulate friction by adding friction or taking away. Does this mean she was part of two orders as well since there were two different abilities she had? EDIT: I just looked on the wiki and found an image that discribed the orders pretty well. I was assuming that two separate powers meant two different orders. So I guess the answer to my first queston would be that only Lightweavers and Elsecallers can soulcast because of Transformation? Or is each shared attribute between two given orders manifested differently? Example: Lift and Lopen can both use the attribute of Progression to revive people or "regrow" them (I assume Lopen can do this because he started to regrow his arm), but Truthwatchers share the attribute of Progression with them. Does this mean they have the same ability to "regrow" or do they manifest the attribute differently? Does that make sense?
  25. Here are all of the readings from Words of Radiance that have been released so far. This list is going to be updated when more come out. Also, the spelling of any new names are merely approximations, not intended to be completely accurate. Jasnah Prologue Kaladin - Chapter 2 Dalinar's Vision Shallan Flashback 1 - Red Carpet, Once White Eshonai Interlude Rysn's Interlude Ym Interlude Lift Interlude Taravangian Interlude Enjoy!
