  1. When someone comes back to life as a Returned, they naturally appear as a "perfect" version of themselves based on their own perception and their society's perception. Even if it would be hard, it is possible for a non Nalthian to Return, so if a Koloss-blooded person were to Return, would/could they turn into a full Koloss but without needing any Hemalurgic spikes due to their perception of them and their society's perception of them? And vice versa, if a full Koloss that was unwillingly made into one were to die and become a Returned, would they be able to reject their spikes and live as a human again (okay, a Returned human, but you get the idea) due to their perception?
  2. The First Generation of Kandra were different from Kandra that were born Mistwraiths; they didn't have the same instincts that were present in the others. So, long question short, do Koloss retain their sense of attraction for humans after their transformation, since Hemalurgy doesn't seem to change the Cognitive Aspect in that way (at least not directly)? We see that there are Koloss-blooded born from Koloss and humans, so would that mean that there are Koloss physically attracted to humans despite their new anatomical differences?
  3. All Koloss will continue to grow bigger as they age, but what happens if a human with dwarfism syndrome was turned into a Koloss? Would they still continue to grow, just with a shorter starting point? Also, what if in Scadrial's future modern medicine is able to use a procedure similar to how gigantism is cured (by cutting out the pituitary gland in the brain) on Koloss to try to stop Koloss's excessive growth? Would it work? Would the Koloss live as long as a human that way?
  4. I was recently surfing the Guilds and clans forum when I stumbled upon the Koloss are people too foundation. A question was raised as to whether the Koloss' spikes should be confiscated so as to prevent any more people from being transformed into Koloss. Anyway, it got me thinking and I wondered what people's opinions were on the matter. So let's say you are an Elendel citizen that has heard of Koloss and how they are created. What would you do in such a situation? PLEASE don't devolve into fighting if you discuss your opinion; we just want to understand what others' thoughts are on the topic, that's all.
  5. We know that if you burn a Hemalurgic spike that you splice the sDNA inside to your own. I had always imagined that as swallowing the spike as is done traditionally with Allomancy, but what if you instead were to have the spike already piercing your body before you burned it? Could a Koloss made from a Lurcher, for instance, burn their spikes (assuming that their donors blanked their Identity when the spikes were charged) to sort of "seal in" the enhancements and alterations made to them, freeing them from the danger of someone controlling them via Allomancy or Shardic power?
  6. I was on a thread recently that's been talking about Koloss-blooded people and things regarding them, which got me thinking about why Koloss' children are so different from their parents. The first hypothesis was that the Koloss just happen to pass on different genes to their children than what they possess. Which technically could be what's going on, but literally no other creature in existence works that way; they try to pass on a slight variation of the genes they have, not an extreme mutation. Sazed could have done some shenanigans with this, but ultimately it just doesn't make sense that he'd do that. The second hypothesis was that Koloss DNA changes into whatever the Koloss-blooded child's DNA will be when it leaves the body of the Koloss, kind of like how a Soulstamp won't continue to affect a part of the body that was lost- it would revert to its normal form after the Stamp (or in this case spikes) stopped having a direct effect on it. Only problem is, that isn't how the spikes work; they cause a permanent change to the Koloss's body, even after they die. If a Koloss's arm doesn't change back to a human's upon leaving their body, neither would their genetic code. The third hypothesis was that Koloss have the same DNA that Koloss-blooded do. The Koloss's spikes would work as a magical component that would keep up part of their transformation, but their DNA would pass on to their offspring. After all, the Cognitive Aspect of the Koloss reverts to being human after death, so this would almost make sense. . . except that, once again, the spikes aren't like Soulstamps; the same problem as with hypothesis #2 occurs here, where the spikes simply don't grant a temporary physical transformation, it's a permanent thing. So, my final- and I believe plausable- hypothesis is that Koloss simply can't give all their genetic code over to their children. Basically, the spikes of the Koloss add to their spiritual (and by extension) physical DNA, causing them to change from humans into Koloss. However, the code in the spikes is nontransferable; the same thing happens when a Steel Inquisitor tries to pass on their Hemalurgically granted powers to their offspring- the genes in the spikes just don't make the leap from parent to child. This would also explain why Koloss couldn't have children before Harmony intervened; any time they tied to have kids, the genes they passed on were mangled because they were filled with holes as the Hemalurgic spikes didn't pass on their portion of the Koloss's DNA, meaning that the child wouldn't have been able to form properly, and the cells would simply never have formed correctly to make a new organism. However, when Harmony stepped in and tweaked the system, he allowed the spikes to pass a spliced version the Koloss genes, allowing a new being to be created, though without parts of the genetic code of its parents. This would also explain why Koloss-blooded have some vestigial traits of Koloss, but why they are mostly human- Hemalurgy is less brutal now than it once was, allowing for Spiritwebs holding the spikes to pass on some small portion of the Spikes' contents. Or, possibly, instead of the Spikes themselves passing on part of their code, the portion of the Koloss DNA passed on splices itself into a usable set of genes, but is still slightly twisted from the spikes' code, hence the reason Koloss-blooded have some residual traits of their Koloss parents. That one may also be possible. Hmm. Perhaps I've put a little too much thought into this. . .
  7. I had an idea recently in another post to Hemalurgically spike a Mistwraith, but then wondered if spiking a Kandra would lead to a different end result, which lead to this idea. When you Hemalurgically spike a human's strength from them using H-iron, you can use those spikes to twist another human into a Koloss. But what if you try to take a Koloss's strength via Hemalurgy? This would, I think, on whether all the power of the Koloss's added strength is in the spikes, or if it's a combination of their growing muscles and an enhancement of their spikes. My personal idea currently for how Koloss spikes work is that they provide a magical boost on top of "twisting" the recipient, causing them to grow huge muscles. The power in the spikes probably couldn't be spiked out (since it isn't actually part of the donor's Spiritweb), but the new, twisted Spiritweb might. So let's have a scenario play out; a Koloss tribe needs more members to help compete with their neighboring tribes. Unfortunately, they don't have enough spikes to make more Koloss, but they do have a human who knows how to make more spikes and wants to become a Koloss. The human helper convinces the Koloss elders to let him spike out the elder's strength and use those spikes to turn himself into a new Koloss. The question is, does anything wonky go on with the new Koloss? Does he get more of a strength boost than other Koloss, since the strength stolen was from much stronger creatures than human? Does the warping effect on his Spiritweb get worse, since it isn't stolen pieces of human Spiritwebs, but stolen pieces of Koloss Spiritwebs that have already been warped? Would even weirder things happen if the process continued to be practiced, eventually creating some crazy mutant Koloss from other Koloss that had also been made from Koloss?
  8. Happy Koloss Head-Munching Day, everyone! For those of you who don't know, Koloss Head-Munching Day is just another way to say Sanderson's birthday. As of now, he is 45! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SANDERSON!
  9. Why don't Koloss die from infection, even though their skin tears and can expose the flesh underneath for years before they die?
  10. If you were to remove a kolos's Hemalurgic spikes after it had been transformed into a koloss, and the physical wounds weren't dangerous enough to kill them, what would happen to them? Would they die from their Spiritweb collapsing, remain a koloss but without the Blessing of Potency, or would they turn back into a human?
  11. I was considering the nature of Bonds in the Cosmere when I had an idea. If you were to give a Koloss a large number of Breaths (lets say, at least a thousand), then take them to Roshar and Bond them via they're Hemalurgic weakness, would be person who Bonded them gain powers? We can see from this WoB that going to Roshar while possessing a bond other than that of humans and Spren could potentially provide powers to someone, which I think supports this theory.
  12. I was today years old when I realized era 1 Koloss are basically giant toddlers wielding swords and are therefore way more terrifying than I thought. SMH
  13. A koloss will continue to grow until they die from heart failure, but if there were koloss on Roshar (or any planet with less gravity) could they potentially grow even bigger? Could a koloss made from an iron ferring, or one that has somehow else gained access to iron feruchemy, use that ability to take much less stress on their body from gravity, thus allowing them to live longer and get bigger?
  14. I was contemplating the applications of awakening when I thought "hey, what if you awaken a koloss? Not one of the baggy little ones, like, one of the BIG ones." Thoughts anyone? ( P.S. Would their hemalurgic spikes still work, and if so, how much extra investiture would it take to overcome the resistance?)
  15. From the album: Painted Mistborn Minis

I recently finished painting the mini’s for the Mistborn House War board game and it’s expansion, The Siege of Luthadel. These were a lot of fun to paint and I’m very happy with how they turned out. Enjoy!
  16. Why didn't Harmony turn the Koloss back to human? Preservation and Ruin could create humans wholesale so its not like that's beyond a Shard's power. I didn't realize while thinking about him changing the Koloss into a true breeding race that he was a Shard and shouldn't require to resort to Hemalurgy as the only option, before remembering what he said to Kelsier about regaining his body and what Kelsier apparently looked like in era 2. On top of that Koloss are complicated. They're an amalgamation of (parts of) multiple souls stitched on the "main" soul, whose body transforms. Do these secondary souls manifest on the Cognitive when a Koloss is killed? I seem to remember them doing so in SH. Which is rather confusing since the... donors should've been dead already and their Cognitive self should've faded into the Beyond. I may be misremembering and those other souls may have been of the Koloss' victims or other unrelated people since Ruin was rampaging at that point so a lot of people were dying. Are there restrictions on what Shards can do when it comes to living beings? Is creating a different body from scratch and putting someone's soul into it not possible somehow? Is this why Kelsier couldn't just create a new body for himself as Preservation nor could Sazed as Harmony? In Warbreaker In The Stormlight Archive Or is it something imposed by Investiture systems, perhaps it is easier to make Investiture follow pre-made paths Altering the Spiritweb to alter one's race seems to be possible so why not turn the Koloss back to human? Preservation's power has been used to alter humans before, to create the Skaa, Did it require consent or a Cognitive sense of self of being human that the Koloss wouldn't have been capable of? Human the Koloss would've wanted to turn human at least. Also what about Mistwraiths? They are technically humans even though they have never experienced being human (except the First Generation)? Is becoming Kandra through Hemalurgy their only option? Can't they be turned into regular humans or given regular human bodies? Did this decision have something to do with his Intent? Possibly also why he let the Southern Scadrians suffer during the Catacendre (which they called the Ice Death)? After all, he is Preservation and Ruin. He can preserve a species by making them capable of reproduction. He can ruin people into becoming brutal savages or mindless formless globs of meat. But can he restore them?

  18. It seems that various combinations of spikes can make an Inquisitor, and you can keep adding more - Marsh had 11 at the end of the first book (2 in eyes, 1 linchpin in shoulders, 8 in ribs) and had 20-plus by the end of the trilogy. But koloss seem to be always the same, 4 iron spikes. Why? If someone accumulates spikes, what's the line between human and Inquisitor, and what does crossing that line mean? Maybe the point where you become controlled by Ruin or Harmony (Mr Suit says 3 spikes are safe, 4 aren't)? The point where you need a "linchpin spike" to survive? What if you give an Inquisitor 4 iron spikes? Does it turn into a koloss, just die, become a super-strong Inquisitor or what?
