  3. Months ago, I had made a "stick figure" avvie of Kaladin a la Rich Burlew's Order of the Stick (based on the cover for WoR, 'course) Since I had a Kal figure I had to make this scene too (minor woR spoiler, I guess) Anyways, I looked at the little guy again, and though to myself, how hard could it be to transform it into a more realistically proportioned and detailed version? The problem with thoughts like that is that they lead to ridiculous time consuming projects. (please click to embiggen) I'm too lazy to bother with a real background. Maybe sometime in the future.
  4. So I don't think this would actually happen, but can you imagine how funny and awesome it would be if Kaladin took Nightblood from Szeth? I shall prepare a scenario: Kaladin walked through the crowded streets of Kholinar, Nightblood in his hand. The stupid sword hadn't shut up since he took him from Szeth. You should kill him. The sword told him. It could have meant any single person down the street. They've probably done something to hurt someone. Anyone could hurt someone. You should stop that from happening. Syl zipped down from her unseen place in the sky as a little ribbon. "Don't listen to him Kaladin. You need to protect the people. Lead them and train them to be honourable." Kill him. Kill him. "Don't kill them Kaladin!" "Would you two shut up! I'm not going to kill anyone!" You're no fun. The sword seemed to be pouting at him somehow. Syl stuck her tongue out at it. End scene...
  5. Ok, in the thread Predictions for Stones Unhallowed I realized that maxal and I, with our theories and ramblings that contained the scenarios for weddings and Adolin's or Kaladin's future children, kind of strayed off the topic So as not to cluster that thread further and let it focus on what can happen in Stones Unhallowed (and not much later or even in the back five), I decided to create this thread - it's a place designed to post ideas and ramblings related to distant future (and the next generation of Kholins and their friends ). I feel obliged to warn you that quite propably some of said ramblings are long and rather useless (but hilarious - always funny to write and often also funny to read). Even the craziest idea can go here, it's healthy to share such things (even if sometimes only because laughing is healthy ). And if someone is ambitious - even some fan-fiction concerning future (I do like to read such things even if I don't feel that my english is good enough to write them myself). Under spoiler tags I'll put the things that I or maxal wrote in the forementioned thread. It goes with a pattern - what's in a quote is maxal's, the rest is mine. If someone else joined in this ramblings I'll mention who said it. Generally it's the story/ramblings of how maxal and I see the future for Adolin&Shallan and Kaladin(&Tarah) and their kids The ramblings on Kaladin and Tarah Ramblings on weddings and future in general So that's about it when it comes to our ramblings... There is also maxal's The Fashion at the Weddings, which I'll repost as well. I'll just remind again that the text about wedding and clothes is maxal's, I only wrote my comment at the bottom and that's the only thing I can claim. And that is all about it until now. Every theory and every amount of ramblings is welcome (following the course of thinking above or completely different).
  6. Since there's a poll about who Shallan will end up with, I did the same for Kaladin
  7. Please note that this thread contains both WoR and tWoK spoilers. You have been warned. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- While rereading tWoK, I noticed something interesting on page 777, the page where Kaladin and Tien enlisted to the army. Let me quickly quote it for you: Seeing as in WoR kaladin mentioned that he must return to Hearthstone to warn them of the impending doom, he will surprise his parents by the fact that he is still alive - but what of tien? He swore on the stormfather and the almighty himself, surely as a man of honour, this promise will haunt him in some way or another. In addition, the way it repeats itself in the last line and italicizes it causes me to think that it will have some importance in the next book, most likely with his honor-relying relationship with Syl. Just some Laral related speculations about the Bride prayer and the silversmiths What are your thoughts of these two speculations?
  8. Okay, so I was reading Warbreaker, and I come to chapter 32. Hoid shows up and starts telling stories about the history of Hallandren: http://brandonsanderson.com/warbreaker-chapter-thirty-two/ He brings up a guy from a really long time ago named Kalad: Is there a possible connection here? On the back of The Way of Kings paperback cover it says regarding the "four whom we watch" that "One of them will destroy us" implying that one of them could turn evil or something. We know that it's possible for people to planet hop (Hoid, of course, but also Galladon from Elantris is in the Way of Kings interlude about Ishikk), and it's possible that Warbreaker takes place in a much later time than the Way of Kings. Also, this Kalad is a "Returned" which bears some resemblance to the fact that What do you all think? Is this just coincidence?
  9. "Honor is dead. But I'll see what I can do." My foreshadowing bells are going off... (Just to be clear, this is supported by ABSOLUTELY NOTHING besides that line. It's verbatim from WoR, right at the end of chapter 56.)

  13. The following is a quote from Chapter 2 of WoK: My question is who are/were the Takers? Is that a group of people or a family name or something else? I haven't seen this reference anywhere else, so we just might not know anything about them.
  14. I’ve looked for an answer to this question, but haven’t been able to find one. Apologies if it has already been discussed to death. I don’t have a theory to associate with the following observation, but am wondering: it is significant and, if so, do we have enough information to make sense of it? During the highstorm when Eshonai bonds the stormspren, Szeth also attacks the palace in an attempt to assassinate Dalinar. During this sequence, the Stormfather, Syl, and Pattern become extremely agitated. When I read the scene for the first time, I was so caught up in the atmosphere that I didn’t notice the possible overlapping. From the beginning of the chapter “The One Who Hates,” it is clear to the reader that the ongoing highstorm is Eshonai’s highstorm but not that Szeth is on the way. Eventually, based on Syl’s reaction and the narration, Szeth appears to be an agent of Odium. Starting off, in Kaladin’s storm dream, he speaks with Stormfather: Stormfather seems to be referring to Odium and the Everstorm that Eshonai will set into motion by bonding the stormspren and converting other Parshendi in a later storm. Pattern also agrees that something is off: And when Syl finds Kaladin, she also expresses alarm: Kaladin immediately begins to evacuate the palace, even though he still doesn’t know what is happening. It’s still not clear to the reader that Szeth is there. Syl's quote that "He's coming" still seems to refer to Odium. Once they reach the hallway where the spheres have been drained, but right before they see Szeth, Syl comments: Finally, we (the readers and characters) know that an assassination attempt is happening. When Kaladin tries to explain Szeth’s powers as deriving from the Nahel bond, Syl is adamant that he is something else, either having seen the honorblade, his use of stormlight, or not sensing a spren. Syl later points to Szeth’s blade as particularly troubling: What I don’t understand is why Syl makes the connection between the other ominous events and the arrival of Szeth. She clearly says “He’s here” in reference to Szeth when they find him during the evacuation. She’d already said “He’s coming,” but it seemed much more tied to the stormspren bonding and Odium. I know there are theories about Szeth having a connection to one of the unmade re: "the screams" as well as concerns about consuming so much stormlight. Is this Sanderson just writing an awesome chaotic scene or is there a clue in there?
  15. So, this is an opinion piece of mine, and a discussion of Dalinar and Kaladin. In my opinion, Kaladin is by far the better hero character. Here's why. Major events in Kaladin's life include: seeing his brother killed because of an incompetent and selfish squadleader, watching his men get killed by and being enslaved by a corrupt brightlord, and possibly foresaking his freedom (and life) in order to go on a suicide mission to rescue a highprince who had allied himself with Sadeas. Major events in Dalinar's life include: Getting so freaking plastered that he allowed his brother to be killed by Szeth, putting himself in the best possible position for Sadeas to betray him, and being bailed out of said betrayal by Kaladin. Kaladin's major mistake so far was his plan to allow Moash to murder Elhokar. While this is quite a bit of a transgression, Elhokar WAS indirectly responsible for Kaladin's troubles (his brother, the shardblade, etcetera), and Kaladin has proven to have severe depression and PTSD. As soon as he thinks of Tien, he loses grip with reality. Dalinar's mistakes are a... bit more varied and numerous. Let's see here: getting drunk in the prologue, allying himself with Sadeas, allowing Roshone to retain a degree of power, and naming Amaram the head of the Knights Radiant while simultaniously not realizing that there wasn't anything special about Kaladin (or Shallan). Also, Dalinar really hasn't had to address his mistakes. Kaladin and some of the highprinces bailed him out Sadeas' betrayal, and nobody other than Kaladin (with Amaram) has really harped on Dalinar for the others. You could argue that Gavilar's death is punishment enough, but I really don't think that works, especially if Gavilar was a twisted as the Sons of Honor. I really don't think that the same argument can be made for Kaladin. Between the bridge runs, fighting Szeth, and saving Dalinar, Kaladin has almost single-handedly made up for his and others' mistakes. I know that I should probably reserve this judgement until Highprince of War comes out, but at this point in the series, I think that Dalinar is relatively undeserving of the leadership of the new Radiants, and that Kaladin is simply a better hero. Also, while I commend Dalinar for not taking the throne, I really think that he should have. For him to put the entire kingdom in jeopardy just so that he could keep an outdated promise to his brother is a bit selfish. If he had the support that he said he had, he should have at least overseen Alethkar during the Parshendi war. Elhokar was in no way ready for the throne, and Dalinar could have used those few years to stabilize the kingdom and demonstrate to Elhokar how to be a better king. To me, his refusal to take at least temporary control was the wrong move. Sorry if this is a bit disjointed and/or ranty. What do you guys think of this? Who do you think is the better hero? Or the better character?
  16. kaladin! i finally finished the stormlight archives and i really wanted to get down some coloured images of my interpretations of the characters!
  17. Has anyone else ever noticed that The symbol for Kaladin with the crescent and the spears looks like a horizontally transposed Allomantic Bronze symbol? Do you think he's going to snap soon? I mean he's been thru SOME bad stuff but I think he's due for a little more punishment. (Note this is totally facetious and I'm kidding) I've thought this since the first time I read the book so I'm a little surprised it's never come up here before.
  18. Something I feel everyone is missing is that it doesn't seem to be just brokenness that makes you a Radiant but showing an outstanding virtue through that brokenness like Honesty, Honor, Leadership, and Bravery and loyalty. and so far I think that everyone who is a radiant deserves it, Renarin for his loyalty, Shallan for her Honesty (or her ability to make others honest), Kaladin through his Honor, and Dalinar for his Leadership. Shallan has shown that she can bring out the best in people by telling them how she sees them or how they could be seen, perhaps this has always been a quality of Shallan, as it has been said that shallan had a shardblade and a spren even before she lost her mother. Something that was said that i can't quite recall where was that even with Radiant's spren, you have to show their virtue to attract them, just like any other spren. so maybe instead of finding all of the broken Characters in the books and pointing "Radiant!", and then discussing how broken they are, we should consider what we know of their character to judge it's possibility not exactly how broken we think they are.
  19. This is inspired by chapter 55 of WoR. Totally not serious, sorry Kaladin! Note: What he attracts is a baby girl chasmfiend. =) Bigger picture is here: [x] Original lineart:
  20. Yup. Laral will be a Knight. Reasons: her name is palindromic* her dad died and she became engaged to a tyrant Kaladin's probably going to fall for her* And... yeah, thats it. But I'm almost certain. * Not quite relevant. More, uh, jokinglyish-things.
  21. A pretty rough sketch of Shallan and Kaladin getting along as best they can.

  22. This is my first topic, so don't judge. I was thinking about different powers within the Cosmere, and I noticed the similarity between Mistings and Surgebinders: they both have limited powers. What if there was a type of Surgebinder that had all of the powers, like a full Mistborn? Would you need to bond with each type of spren, or just speak all of the ideals? If this exists, perhaps Hoid is one. I have no proof of this, so far we only know of his worldhopping (and lightweaving?) powers. But if Hoid is trying to get all of the powers, note the Lerasium bead, this would add up. Thoughts?
  23. I recently finished some character designs just in time for Words of Radiance. I posted them to the gallery and would really love to hear some feedback from you guys. Here is a link to my Behance portfolio for higher res images: https://www.behance.net/gallery/WoK-Character-Concepts/15065047
  24. Just noticed. People noticed in the Surges chart how each order is connected to the one next to it, the one that shared a Surge, but that there were liens to other orders as well. I just noticed something. Lightweavers has a line going to Windrunners, directly opposite from each other on the chart. We have seen a Lightweaver and a Windrunner, two of our first Surgebinders. Couldn't stand each other for the most part, but who knows, maybe a coincidence, though we know for a fact the spren of the two orders dislike each other. Next is Bondsmiths connected with Truthwatchers, also directly opposite from each other. Now, I find it would be a bit of a coincidence that Dalinar, our Bondsmith, happens to have a son who is a Truthwatcher. Perhaps there is something here also, maybe the spren of Truthwatchers don't get along with the Stormfather? I don't know, but I thought it a good idea to point out the relationships there so as to possibly help others with their theories. Let me know your thoughts. Please and thank you.
  25. During my reread of WoR today, I happened upon this little gem while Kal is in prison: (Ch. 62 "The One Who Killed Promises") Sounds like Axies' incarcerationspren to me. I guess he's never seen them because he's never been imprisoned in the Alethi Warcamps. (Or maybe its because of the differences between how he and Kaladin Cognitively interpret imprisonment, but that's a theory for another day.) Are there any other neat references back to The Way of Kings that you've noticed? (Sorry if people have already noticed this, it didn't appear in any of the searches I did.)
