  1. Give me a moment to put on my shardplate. Now before you Shaolin shippers light your torches and raise your pitchforks, I am one of you. I want Shallan to end up with Adolin in the end. But what about my title.? Well, I think the idea of a Kaladin and Shallan pairing is getting an unnatural amount of hate. In fact, if there are any Shalladin fans out there, I am sorry your ship is being so thoroughly wrecked by this odium toward this pairing. (Sorry I had to.) Kaladin and Shallan will not work in the end. Besides the issues that they have little in common, don't speak the same social language at times, and have spren who are as diametrical as two spren can be, Kaladin killed her brother. Even if Shallan understands and forgives, I don't think she could be in an intimate relationship with someone who killed Heleran. So if the two begin dating their relationship is doomed. However, I don't hear this as the reason people are complaining about the pairing. "NO LOVE TRIANGLES!" is the cry. Why? Because it is a tired trope, you say. I don't think that is your problem. What if the triangle was between Adolin, Shallan, and Mraize? Some might still cry no love triangles, but I don't think the call would be as loud. I think the problem isn't the dreaded "love triangle" as much as it is we are all avid readers and are tired of seeing the main hero end up with the main heroine. It would be refreshing to see a man and woman who were central characters just remain friends. I get this desire. I am writing a whole series with the goal of having the main hero and heroine only be friends. Still, this is an expectation less avid readers do often have for heroes and heroines. Consider all the fans who were disappointed Harry Potter did not end up with Hermione Granger. I was happy to see Ron ended up with Hermione (Ron from the books at least) and would have hated to see her end up with Harry. But for many, the Harry Potter series was their first obsession, so naturally, they imagined the great love story of Harry and Hermione. I doubt SA can be a gateway series for many because of the learning curve that is WoK. Therefore a majority of SA fans have seen the hero and heroine end up together in a plethora of stories, and we are tired of the trope as much as love triangles. You might be tired of it, but that does not make it a bad thing Brandon should not do. Shalladin would help Shaolin become a lasting relationship. That might sound like an odd statement, but it is true. I think we worry about Shalladin because Kal is a great guy and why would Shallan leave him once they were together. Further, it would destroy the budding bromance between Kaladin and Adolin. However, I don't think either of these fears would come to pass if Shallan and Kaladin flirted for a few chapters to half a book and it would bring great conflict, but not be a true love triangle, at least not in the classic sense. I have already established why Kaladin and Shallan are doomed as a couple, so I am not going to go over that again. However, I don't think Kaladin and Shallan flirting will harm his friendship with Adolin at all. I don't think Kal would pursue a relationship with Shallan until Adolin is out of the picture because of the friendship (and she's lighteyed, or that is what Kaladin will tell himself until Adolin is exiled). Right now Shaolin is also a doomed relationship but not forever. Both Adolin and Shallan are really messed up people. I don't think either could have a healthy relationship right now until they address their issues. And the issue that will temporarily break them up is Adolin killing Sadeas. Brandon has hinted as much in chapter 13 of Oathbringer. Besides the fact that Shallan saying neither of them will mess this up sounds like famous last words, the last topic of the chapter is Adolin's hidden crime. Putting the ideas of them breaking up and the killing of Sadeas together suggests this is how their relationship will end, but not forever. Now I don't think Shallan is going to break up with Adolin when she finds out what he did. In a twisted way that might even bring them closer to together. No, I think this will break them up because Adolin is going to be exiled from Urithru and likely Alethkar as well and that will be the end of the engagement. Some would argue Adolin will get away with it, but the way the story is structured and the hints Brandon is dropping point to Adolin needing to face some consequences for his actions. Still, that is a debate for another thread. Just go with me on the fact murder of Sadeas will push Adolin away from Shallan for a time. After that happens Kaladin and Shallan may consider a relationship with each other. They might look past their different backgrounds and go for it because they are both KR so why not give it a try. At that point, it will not be a true love triangle. Adolin and Shallan will be over with, and Adolin will be somewhere out in Roshar reviving his blade or something. Still, Shallan is such a metal mess that her time with Kaladin will not go well even before she learns he killed Heleran. She is going to need to face her issues, and this will damage the relationship she is in no matter whom she is with at the time. I'd much rather have her self-discovery ruin Shalladin than Shaodin. Let her go through this learning period with Kaladin, have them both part as better people, and hopefully still friends even after she learns the truth. Then Shallan will hopefully be ready for a stable relationship. After this happens, I hope Adolin will return to Urithru as an Edgedancer with his a restored blade (yes he would make a great Edgedancer, shut up) and he will reestablish his relationship with Shallan. Then they would be on equal footing as KR and more mature people. Thus, the relationship will last the rest of their lives. As for Kal, he will be happy for them because he knows "they fit" and he will have moved on, but hopefully remain their friend. I'm likely wrong about all of this, but it could work. So please don't demand "no Shalladin." It might be an interesting source of conflict, and I trust Brandon to show it to us in an engaging way.
  2. From the album: In this house we respect Dalinar Kholin

“What is a man’s life worth?” Dalinar asked softly.“The slavemasters say one is worth about two emerald broams,” Kaladin said, frowning.“And what do you say?”“A life is priceless,” he said immediately, quoting his father.Dalinar smiled, wrinkle lines extending from the corners of his eyes.“Coincidentally, that is the exact value of a Shardblade. So today, you and your men sacrificed to buy me twenty-six hundred priceless lives. And all I had to repay you with was a single priceless sword. I call that a bargain.”“You really think it was a good trade, don’t you?” Kaladin said, amazed.Dalinar smiled in a way that seemed strikingly paternal. I got emotions and nowhere to put um
  3. Ok i posted a the outline of this to the stormlight discord server but i thought it would be a good idea to reach more sharders , but before that and before i gather more down voting arrows than Kaladin's shield during the tower approach, let me make it clear that this is a joke now that this is settled , lets dive in our protagonist is a brown skinned lower class citizent , acompanied by a snarky and fabulous blue translucent spirit thingy with mystical powers , and a way for nonconventional flight . and dont get me started on the name , it is like Sanderson didnt even try , Kaladin? come on! that is only one letter off for those of you who havent caught on already i am talking about Aladin , yes disney's Aladin , he has the genie and a flying carpet , i am not going to even mention that he crushes on a high born woman. but i guess that kaladin has nipples so atleast that is different , and an important change of his character .... actualy do we know for sure if kaladin has nipples ? can we get a WoB on that please ?
  4. This is a song focusing on Kaladin and such. (Called Sound of Honor) Hello, Tien, my old friend I’ve come to talk to you again Because the Stormlight softly creeping Left its seeds while I was hanging And the vision that was planted in my brain Still remains Within the sound of honor In restless dreams I walked alone Narrow streets of Hearthstone ‘Neath the halo of a sphere lamp I turned my collar to the cold and damp When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a bright light That split the night And touched the sound of honor And in the naked light, I saw Ten thousand parshmen, maybe more They were talking without speaking They were hearing without listening They were singing songs that voices never share And no one dared Disturb the sound of honor Son of honor, you do not know Odium like a cancer grows Hear my words that I might teach you Take my blade that I might fight for you But my words, like silent raindrops fell And echoed in the wells of honor And the Parshendi bowed and prayed To the Voidbringer they made And the storm flashed out its warning In the dreams that it was forming And the dream said, the ways of kings are written on Urithiru’s walls And sacred halls And whispered in the sound of honor
  5. Okay, as I have said on previous posts, I am new to this series and I'm sure I'm not the only one who has expressed some of these ideas. That being said, I am 100% behind the love triangle between Kaladin, Shallan, and Adolin. I love the teasing that Brandon does for it especially with Kaladin starting to get weak at the knees around her after their stint in the chasms. I just kind of wanted to pick some brains on the subject. Sorry Adolin, but I'm on the side of Kaladin with this one. Let me know what you guys think. But I definitely think that this love triangle will have some more time in the sun especially with the slight hints that Brandon gave to them from both Kaladin's and Shallan's point of view.
  6. Hello, I'm a recent addition to this cosmere. I've been listening to Brandon Sanderson's books since I left America in March for my Deployment to Iraq. I've made it through 5 books, and I am excited about the 3rd mistborn book I will read this month, and the third Stormlight Archives book I will read in November when it is released. I have also listened to Warbreaker. However, I want the entire Cosmere in my library, Can someone list ALL of the books from Sanderson's collection in the Cosmere? Also, should I read the short novella Edgedancer before reading the Oathbringer? I have not had an opportunity to get any of the short stories. Also, it seems that Mr. Sanderson is quite involved in his community, where is the best place to keep my finger to feel for his pulse In this community barring social media?

  8. This is a theory, that I've been forming in the current Shalladin thread here yesterday. Well, the thread moved on and never really got into any discussion about it. I believe the theory alone is enough to allow for a whole thread. I don't want this thread to become part of the shipping war. I want to see opinions about this. So, please refrain from getting too worked up about any of it. It's just a theory. (And I know, that I have problems with not getting worked up, too. I try to work on it. ) ---- So, in Chapter 15 of Oathbringer we see Shallan getting confronted by Adolin with the fact, that she actually has a Shardblade, a fact she has been trying to forget by splitting Pattern into two personalities - the spren and the Blade. Now, I'm a pretty vocal fan of the Shallan/Kaladin pairing, so this might seem a bit biased, but I hope you try to understand my perspective, when I try to explain the Shallan/Adolin relationship in it's current form - from Shallan's perspective - Adolin's is pretty short, he is infatuated with her, maybe even in love, and wants to keep her. But I digress, Shallan's perspective: The world is ending, listeners all around Roshar are turning into mindless murder machines threatening mankind. And damnation, Shallan is supposed to be a Radiant. To step up and help save mankind? Imagine the pressure. Imagine the uncertainty. Adolin is the only thing, that currently is certain in Shallan's life. She clings to it, she bends herself to make it work, like when she wouldn't tell Adolin, that she rather would not train duelling stances. That is also why her subconscious starts to kick in and panicks, when she gets the feeling, he might blow off the betrothal. But only the betrothal, she's so focused on the betrothal, of that anchor, that she is afraid of losing that. But I don't blame her, it's human. It is true, that she likes Adolin, but in my opinion, there is little true textual evidence, that she loves him. She never says, "Oh no, Adolin is going to leave me.", but, instead, says "Oh no, he's going to blow off the betrothal." Now, how does Adolin inhibit Shallan's character growth? By being that one anchor in her life, she is too afraid to lose it. So, in order to not disappoint him, she creates Brightness Radiant, just so she can have a good time with him. It would be fine, but it is not what she has to do to progress. Pattern basically confirms that. Shallan needs to become a Knight, but she needs to be it herself. Not Brightness Radiant. Not Veil. It needs to be Shallan. As seen above, when Shallan denies the fact, that she can be a Knight Radiant, Pattern is confused. Or, at least, Shallan recognizes it as confusion. Maybe it is irritation. Anyway, I don't believe, that Pattern can help her with this. He blames himself for her state of mind and even offers to kill himself for Shallan. So she can become, who she needs to be. He thinks, that she hates him. Even if Shallan tells him, she doesn't. He is confused, because he is oblivious to the fact, that Shallan, in her mind, has been splitting Pattern in two. I really is a strange relationship Shallan has been creating for them after the hard truth at the end of WoR. One might argue, that Brightness Radiant is just a role, like an actor would play, but I don't agree with that. She is a different personality, which takes over. A facade. A Shallan-influenced, but different soul. The biggest takeaway for that is, that Brightness Radiant apparently can't draw, one of Shallan's best skills. She's even talking of Radiant as a different person. Anyway, the bottom line is, that Shallan is already building walls again. And, though not through his intent, Adolin is enabling it. The worst part is, that he doesn't even see the change in Shallan, when she takes on the Brightness Radiant persona. I have seen some arguments about Shallan being able to overcome her fear of Pattern, by Adolin's love of Blades rubbing off on her. Could be, the problem is, that it currently is rubbing off on Radiant, who is a completely different entity from Shallan. Even in Shallan's own mind! I can't emphasize that enough. Poor Adolin doesn't know it, but he's doing her a disservice. And now he thinks, that she enjoys Shardblade practice, so I am positive, that it will become a regular thing. And everytime he won't be with Shallan, but with Radiant. Then I've been thinking: "What could help her then? If her own betrothed can't help her, because of their convolution in being betrothed in the first place?" And then it hit me: Kaladin. In the end, it always comes down to Kaladin. Why? I'll tell you. Remember after Kaladin killed that Veden Shardbearer (I won't call him Helaran here, because I'm still not 100 percent convinced it really is him. The description was suspiciously vague.), who killed his men? He refused the shards. He said, that he can't bear them, that he won't bear them. For one, because they were coated with the blood of his own men. See the parallel to Pattern being tainted by Shallan's mother's blood? And, secondly, because it would make him a lighteyes. Remember how Adolin offers Kaladin Shards after the duel? He still refuses. He still can't imagine ever carrying a Shardblade. He fears them for their killing power, he disrespects them for that. But he overcame his problems. He saw, that he needed to be a Knight Radiant, to wield a Shardblade and, if necessary, even become lighteyed in the process. Become one of those persons, that he hated for all his life. What I think is, that Shallan doesn't need someone, who tells her how great Blades are and that she should be happy for having one. She needs someone, who she can relate to. Who understands her problem. Someone, who says, "I know how you feel, I felt the same not so long ago. I hated the idea of wielding a Shardblade. But let me help you get over that fear. Let me help you become what you have to become. You don't have to do this all by yourself, you're not alone." And that someone is Kaladin. Because, if you break it down to bottom, they both have or had the same problem. The unability to use a Shardblade as a weapon. Hating them for their killing power. Plus it would give a wonderful opportunity to finally talk about Helaran. Kaladin also seems to be pretty good at noticing, when she's hiding herself again. Like he did in the carriage ride in WoR, where she was hiding some emotions from Adolin. Conclusion: Shallan is barricading herself in lies again. Pattern blames himself for it. Adolin is involuntarily enabling her. Kaladin might be the solution.
  9. I first found this board while googling about the romances in Stormlight (specifically the possibility of Adolin-Kaladin romance, but that's another story ), and obviously found lots of threads about possible Kaladin/Adolin/Shallan love triangle, and primarily about how the idea was hated and (at least from my reading at the time) something Brandon was unlikely to do... Imagine my surprise when Mistborn has a love triangle! And a pretty classic one at that (girl protagonist who falls for the good guy (and prince to boot!) but is distracted from the romance by bad boy love interest.) Why the shock that Brandon would do this again? Or did everyone hate it and it's just hope he won't? If anything, at least the outcome in the Stormlight triangle isn't predetermined; I'm not even finished with Well of Ascension, and I'm 99.9% sure Elend is the winner.
  10. Raw speculation: The first five books are about gathering Roshar’s humans in Urithiru (“uniting” them). The gap between the arcs is the “Night of Sorrows,” when the Everstorm rises to submerge Urithiru in darkness. The last five books are about humans fighting back, causing Odium to question whether he can win. The culmination is the Duel between Honor’s and Odium’s Champions. My basis for this speculation? It just feels right…. There is one item of evidence – the image of the ten Shardblades held aloft against the Voidbringer hordes. I suggest these are the Honorblades, not KR Shardblades. Honorblades, we know, consume Stormlight. I think they consume any Investiture, especially if Nale’s “Sword of Retribution” turns out to be Nightblood. I speculate these Blades will be used to remove voidspren from the Voidbringers, returning them to their normal state. With his army gone, Odium chooses to Duel. I have more confidence projecing the saga’s ending. Brandon says he foreshadows that ending somewhere in the first two books. @zandi opined the story of Fleet (WoR, Chapter 59) tells that ending. I agree. I reconstruct that story to fill in what I think happens during the race. It goes without saying this is complete speculation and guesswork. Preliminary Thought: If @Zandi is correct, the race is the Duel of Champions. How then to explain the person Dalinar thinks is Odium’s Champion? I suggest (again with no evidence) that the ten former Silver Kingdoms each fall to a different Voidbringer army led by an opposing Champion. Each Kingdom has an Oathgate That’s why I think the first five books chronicle the human retreat to Urithiru. Dalinar sees someone recognizable who embodies the Thrill. I think he sees Nergaoul in possession of the “unmade” soul of the recently murdered Sadeas. The Thrill is peculiarly Alethi. KR in Dalinar’s "Starfall" vision (IIRC) say their warrior class congregates in “Alethela.” I speculate each Odium Champion is a listener “god” in a mortal's form who has ties to that Kingdom. When Odium fears he may lose, he calls upon his true Champion, the “God of Storms,” IMO a corrupted version of the Stormfather. Let’s begin the final Duel of Champions: The storm begins in the east, so it’s not the Everstorm. But the chapter never identifies the storm as a highstorm. The reference to the “God of Storms” could mean the Stormfather or the listener’s Rider of Storms. Again, I speculate Odium has injected his Investiture into the Stormfather, giving Odium control over the storms. If Odium controls the Stormfather, does that mean Dalinar is the “one who betrays us” from the WoK back cover? Nale mentions the danger of making the Nahel bond oaths without Honor. Maybe this is what he means? Through the corrupt Stormfather, who makes a corrupt Nahel bond, the Bondsmith himself is unknowingly corrupt? Fleet’s description matches Kaladin. Fleet runs, he doesn’t Windrun. That suggests the storm doesn’t hold Stormlight. I think this confirms the storm is not a highstorm. Fleet’s soul is a “sun.” On Roshar, spren are “souls,” and Syl is Kaladin’s “soul.” I think Kaladin must hold Stormlight to glow. By then he’s a full Windrunner and can store and use Stormlight with peak efficiency. He must saturate himself with Stormlight. I have only guesses why he doesn’t fly. Maybe running conserves Stormlight better. Maybe Odium set the Duel rules. Or worse, maybe an unknowingly corrupt Dalinar set the rules, thinking he was acting Honorably. Could that be Dalinar's betrayal? Kaladin runs out of Stormlight, but still makes it into Shinovar: I think the storm “wilts” because it loses its Investiture – Odium’s Investiture – when the storm hits the mountains east of Shinovar. Highstorms likewise lose Stormlight there. IMO, that’s why there are no spren in Shinovar. As with the Voidbringers, pulling Odium’s Investiture from the storm leaves it in its natural state. The Stormfather, the personification of Honor, recognizes Kaladin’s sacrifice to protect Roshar. Is there anything more “Honorable”? Kaladin fully merges with Syl. His body is dead, but their fully-mingled soul remains, “forever free to race the wind.” And that’s how humans defeat Odium. What their prize is – Odium leaving Greater Roshar with reduced power? – is unclear. A final thought: I think Cultivation is more prescient than Odium. I think she knew the terms of the Duel he would someday want to fight. She prepared for that day by making Shinovar a sinkhole for Investiture. She won and reaped her revenge on him for killing Honor. Highly speculative, but what do you think?
  11. This song is a tribute for Disney, but also a tribute to Bridge Four. ( @Faceless Mist-Wraith still working on Cold as Ice) Let’s get down to business, to lift up the bridge! Are we to be martyrs, when we run the ridge? You’re the saddest bunch I’ve ever met But you can bet before we’re through Bridgemen, I’ll make a man out of you. Slaving for the lighteyes but rebel within Once you find your center, you are sure to win You’re a storming, pale, pathetic lot And you haven’t got a clue Somehow I’ll take the slave out of you I’m never gonna lift the bridge To Damnation go those lighteyes Storms, was I a fool in war for cutting lords Kaladin’s got me scared to death Hope he doesn’t see right through me Now I really wish for some ale and gin Bridge Four! We must be swift like the racing Fleet! Bridge Four! With all the force of an Everstorm! Bridge Four! With all the strength of a chasmfiend! Mysterious as the dark side of the Plains! Time is racing toward us till the next bridge run Heed all commands, and you might survive! We’re unsuited for the rage of war So kneel down, and pray to gods How could I honor men such as you! Bridge Four! We must be swift like the racing Fleet! Bridge Four! With all the force of an Everstorm! Bridge Four! With all the strength of a chasmfiend! Mysterious as the dark side of the Plains! Bridge Four! We must be swift like the racing Fleet! Bridge Four! With all the force of an Everstorm! Bridge Four! With all the strength of a chasmfiend! Mysterious as the dark side of the Plains! Hyaa!
  12. Crazy theory. After reading the newest Chapters I'm increasingly convinced Renarin and Elhokar as potential Champions for Odium are red herrings being thrown out by Brandon. Reading about Dalinar under the spell of the Thrill and presumably the touch of one of the Unmade, it's clear that it induces a form of psychosis, including delusions of invincibility, unnatural rage and aggression and loss of judgement. Which led me to hypothesize, what if every Unmade can touch and alter humans like that? What if one of the Unmade can induce hopelessness and deep depression or even bipolar thinking that can alter judgement and behavior as well? Kaladin has been battling severe depression since the start of tWoK. But given how the Thrill works, it may not even be completely natural mental illness. Kaladin may be in the claws of one of the Unmade, and Brandon may be seeding hints of Kaladin (or at least a darker version of Kaladin) being influenced into being Odium's Champion through the touch of the Unmade on his mind. I can only imagine the state of mind any human would have with all nine shadows touching them. The key to this would be to tear away Syl. Syl hangs a lampshade on it, "My job is to bring light and joy and chase away shadows when you're being a dour idiot, Kal." I think this will be another one of Brandon's clever ironies before the series is done. As Syl's influence on Kaladin increases, his depression (and the touch of the Unmade?) shrinks and he becomes less...odious. As Syl's influence wanes and she grows more distant in the first and second book, when Kal was considering suicide or letting Elhokar die, his depression was worse. We saw with Dalinar that the closer he came to Radiant, the less the Thrill was able to affect him. And just as removing Syl from the equation would be the key to making Kaladin Odium's champion, reviving Syl would be the key to redeeming Kaladin and defeating Odium.
  13. Ok, so we were talking about this in The Child Surgeon and I thought I might as well give it its own thing. What are some unreasonable reasons for Kaladin to be depressed? Either ones that are actually mentioned in the book or ones that might happen. The only rules are that it has to be specific to Kaladin and it has to be unreasonable (people that were close to Kaladin dying is not unreasonable). Edit: I should clarify, I really mean "unreasonable reasons for Kaladin to be grumpy". Depression implies that he needs to take medicine for it (if they have that). I don't think that's what Kaladin has because he looks for reasons to be sad. Whereas (if I understand it correctly) medically depressed people don't want to feel sad but do anyway. Edit Edit: So I was wrong about some things and I decided to change the name of this thread. This is now just for things Kaladin does not like.
  14. Greetings! I've been a long-time lurker and I just joined because my sisters and I are collectively developing a theory...more on that later...but, while doing so, I stumbled upon something that I'm not sure anyone has brought up. I figured, since I'm pretty new at this, a far less complicated post would be a good start. If this has been previously discussed, apologies. I was analyzing the illustrations from Navani's notebook, and I was caught by surprise by what could possibly be some strong foreshadowing. The illustration details a fabrial that is used to read emotion (from TWoK). On the page, four examples of the emotions read are listed as follows: 1. Man betrayed by a close friend 2. Woman who has just been proposed to 3. Man who discovered his betrothed lied to him 4. Mother at wedding of only son So, I assume that this is an invention of Navani's and that these are actual readings that she took from people she actually knows. Obviously, each example can be debated a number of ways. (I want to make it perfectly clear that I'm not steadfastly convinced of my interpretation.) The four scenarios, however, could be connected in the sense that they involved the same group of people...specifically a certain three young people who's pairings are hotly debated on this very forum. 15. Man who discovered his betrothed lied to him 4. 16. I am wondering if everyone is feeling the same way I am at the end of Chapter 6?
  17. Here's another piece. We've got Kaladin flying with Syll above the Shattered Plains. Happy to have worked through this one faster than previous works. Kept fiddling and fussing with this thing and eventually had to make myself stop. Lighting is hard business, let me tell you.
  18. So, this came up in another thread, only it was fairly off-topic there, so it'd probably be better to open a brand new thread. [From the 'Love triangles parallel' thread, in answer to a post about Laral] This is actually my favorite Hesina theory. It is clear that she is more than she looks at first. Also, from WoK: It's made pretty clear that Hesina's parents didn't particularly care for Lirin. This is odd, to say the least - Lirin is a skilled surgeon, and a full citzien, and most people would consider him the ideal husband for a daughter. IMO the only reason why Hesina's parents would possibly have disliked her marriage to Kaladin's father is got to be that they considered themselves to have better social status. But Lirin is second nahn; and you don't go much higher than that. (We have a good idea of how lighteyes' dahn work from Shallan's POV in WoR - a brightlord's heir is the same dahn as his father, while his other children are presumably one dahn lower. I'm guessing the same goes for darkeyes' nahn - even if Hesina's family had been of the first, she would have been a second nahn citzien in her own right, making a marriage to Lirin's perfectly acceptable). Plus, there's the fact that Kaladin's parents wanted him to marry Laral to consider. From WoK: But they don't live in a large city and Laral is neither particularly poor (Roshone does marry her for her inheritance, in the end) neither that low ranked. In Words of Radiance, Kaladin refers to the citylord's family as 'middle-dahn'. Also, for what is worth (again from WoK): So, what I'm saying is that Laral's social status was theoretically much, much higher than Lirin's family, making such an union a preposterous idea, even of the paper. Even Lirin and Wistiow's apparent friendship wouldn't be enough for him to even consider marrying Laral to Kaladin - unless his family had some other social connection we weren't made aware of. Snote wondered if perhaps one of Hesina's parents was lighteyed. I don't think this is quite the case, because such a thing was bound to come up, especially by Roshone - but I think it's definitely possible one of her grandparents was. It makes sense. Rich merchant marries poor brightlady, or maybe the other way around; some of their children are lighteyed, some aren't. A brightlord/lady daughter and/or sister would have been out of question for a country surgeon, but a grandaughter, on the other hand.. I can perfectly see Hesina's parents as the kind of snobbish people who see themselves as 'better' than the rest of their social circle because of their lighteyed relations(heck, plenty of RL people are like this. I think I might have just described my boyfriend's parents...). Those people would look down on Hesina marrying Lirin, but would have no means to stop her from doing so (unlike a real noble family would). Also, for what is worth, from the same thread: So, what do y'all think? Of course, it might just be that Hesina's parents didn't like Lirin for some perfectly innocent reason, like he making a mess of their first family dinner, but what would be the fun in that?
  19. From the album: Shalladin

The very first piece of fan art I did for SA a couple of years ago. That scene has stuck with me since I first read it.
  20. I have a theory as to why Szeth was given Nightblood instead of another shard or honorblade. It's been stated that Nightblood act as and basically is a shardblade. So I'll assume when he clashes with one it will be shardblade on shardblade. But what if nightblood can speak into the minds of live spren such as Syl and make her thoughts wild it corrupt basically rendering hey useless to Kaladin. Could this be a possibility why Szeth was given Nightblood at the end of WoR by Nale? That would certainly give him a huge edge over any other shard bearer

From the album: Doodles of Roshar

Just a quick sketch thing for Kaladin. I'm Honestly nervous about tackling him so I just tried to get a feel first.
  22. I grow bored at times, and occasionally random lulzy-conversations spark some interest into that boredom.
  23. Aren't they so ADORABLE? Don't you just wanna hug one of them?(though you shouldn't hug Moash, he might stab you with his spear)
