  1. Hello everyone! Nice to meet you all. I've been reading Mr. Sanderson's books for about a year now and figured it was probably about time I joined this forum; it's always been a fun read and I'd like to contribute every so often. I look forward to chatting with you all.
  2. Hello everyone. I've been a Sanderson fan ever since I stumbled across the then-newly-released Way of Kings in the local library. My wife bought me a copy for Christmas only a few weeks later, claiming that I was whimpering when I turned the library copy back in (she's right - I was trying to drop a hint for her). She and I have become fairly rabid Sanderson fans, to the point that we use Sanderson as a verb - to be Sandersoned means to be kept awake far past when you intended to go to bed, trapped by a work that's far too interesting to put down. I'm an amateur author myself (probably not rare, here). I give out e-copies of my novel for free, but I got yelled at for bringing that up at a previous forum so I won't be making much of a deal about it here. Heh. Just realized that the .pdf would fit as an attachment for this forum post, even. Anyway. I'm from Wisconsin, USA, and I work as a pizza guy for now. I've been trying to introduce my coworkers to Mistborn, with some success.
  3. I am a fairly new Brandon Sanderson Reader, and am happy to have found this community. Brandon does not write as fast as my hunger for his stories so maybe I can get to know the cosmere better hanging out here with you. I have known his books for two to three years only, started with Mistborn trilogy (+ Alloy of Law) and since I needed my fantasy fix started reading everything I got my hands into that had Brandons name in it. I still need to read Infinity Blade, Steelheart trilogy and WOT. Thanks for this Forum Admins!
  4. ... Well, at least mine here on 17th shard (finally *) Most important thing first: Hello to everyone After my somewhat (un)succsessful try to hook friends up on the Cosmere books (some simply viewed them as nice entertainment, unwilling to dig deeper into the fabric of the universe... xD On a more serious note, being from Austria (not the one with the kangaroos) makes this somewhat difficult, as the translations cannot get all the little hints and secrets right, and not everyone likes to read up to 1088 pages in English...) : may the discussions commence (or rather continue xD ). *I've been lurking around in the shadows for quite some time, as I generelly have more of a tendency to read rather than write things. Anyway, here I am now. So far, I've read almost everything of Brandon's stuff (apart from White Sand and some excerpts from yet unpublished stuff) and I simply love it. It may be my inner scientist speaking, but hard epic fantasy ftw
  5. I've come here a few times as a guest, so I figured it was probably time to create an account. I really like the concept of the cosmere, and think it is genius. While I had read Mistborn, Elantris, and Warbreaker previously, it wasn't until recently, when I read the Way of Kings, I found out almost all of Brandon Sanderson's books were connected. Since then, I have hardly read anything not by Sanderson, it has just been too much fun trying to see all the connections. So... Hey all! Great place you've got here!
  6. Hello, I am Eskridge. I have read only one of Brandon Sanderson's novels: The Rithmatist, but he is such a good writer I look forward to reading many more of his books. I am a total bookworm, and if you take me to a bookstore you'd better be ready to carry an enormous pile of novels! My username is named after one of the defences in The Rithmatist called the Eskridge Defence. It is one of my favourites because it is ideal for a good balance of attack and defence especially against the Ballantain. I am so happy to have joined 17th Shard and I can't wait to get involved in the forums. Hope to see you soon, Eskridge
  7. Hi, Big fan of the Stormlight series. I first heard of Mr. Sanderson through the WoT series, which I thought he had done a fine job wrapping up (but I was a little burnt on). I reluctantly picked up the Way of Kings book on CD at my library and listened to it. I was hesitant at first because I was afraid that it would be some WoT knockoff. Boy, was I pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed it so much that I bought WoR, new in hardback. (I can't remember the last time I bought a new hardback at full price) Excellent book! Much better than Game of Thrones or any other fantasy series I can name off the top of my head (although I can't put my finger on why). I actually had to read a couple of other books while reading WoR so I wouldn't finish it so quickly. Alas! The deed is done. Now what do I do? Guess I'll have to start the Mistborn series. It's a good problem to have. Thank you, Mr Sanderson!
  8. Well then, a little about me: I'm Dutch, but currently living in Estonia. Enthusiastic poet (written well over 1200 poems in English, Dutch, German, Estonian and a few in French) and have been featured in a few US coffee table poetry collections. Recently self-published on Amazon. Also hope to be a novelist, currently working on a (read several) fantasy stories. I have a few short stories finished, but no major ones yet. But fervently working on it. Maybe I'll get lucky one day and hook up with a publisher. I am a big fan of fantasy novels and was following among others of course The Wheel of Time. Gotta love Jordan. Through that I learned of Brandon Sanderson's work, so I picked up copies of the Mistborn trilogy. Fantastic! Now I've also read Elantris, The Emperors Soul and Mistborn: alloy of Law. Just started on Warbreaker... In my quest for cosmere knowledge I landed here on this forum. So joined... That's it for now. Happy postings to all. Daniel.
  9. I was introduced to Mistborn a few years back, and proceeded to systematically devour all other Sanderson works I could get my hands on. My husband and I were even motivated to give the Wheel of Time another attempt when we ran out of new Sanderson books to read. (We read out loud to each other like a couple of dorks. My son hates it.) I just finished WoR, and realized again the vast amount of Cosmere stuff I just don't pick up on by myself. I'm not a careful reader - it makes rereading more fun, but it means I miss out on a lot of references if I don't spend awkward amounts of time lurking on forums and comment threads. So, since I'll be lurking, I might as well be able to talk as well. Besides, I'm a stay-at-home mom for the moment, and until I can continue grad school, I'm always in need for more non-diaper-related, pseudo-intellectual conversation. I read for characters and ideas. My husband likes plot and fight scenes. It's pretty cool to read books that make us both equally happy.
  10. Hi guys, I'm Helena. I started reading the Mistborn series last year during my Honours year and once that finished I got the rest of Brandon's books for Christmas and loved them all. I'm a geologist so my initial attraction to the Mistborn series should be obvious but I fell in love with the characters and the delightful plot twists and here I am since I can't stop talking about Words of Radiance to anyone who'll listen. So hi. ^^
  11. Hello everyone! I am excited to find the Sanderson universe (Cosmere) has a vibrant forum. I have meant to get involved for awhile now, but I am finally graduating from BYU and have much more free time on the horizon. I am curious, how did you all first hear about about Brandon Sanderson's books? I was an avid Wheel of Timer and I had written off the Wheel of Time when Robert Jordan died. I was skeptical of whoever they would choose to finish the series. I decided to read some of Brandon's books before the Gathering Storm came out and I was blown away. I have always loved character development in fiction and Brandon is by far the best at creating amazing full characters and placing them believably in fantastic new worlds. Robert Jordan, R.I.P, but Brandon is by far my favorite author to date. I am excited to be here and continue to enjoy these great worlds with you all. Thanks!
  12. Hello everyone! I'm glad to be a part of such and epic adventure. The stories Brandon has created and the community gathering around this magic is amazing. Such enchantment is a marvel to behold. As busy as i am in life with my activities and family I don't often get such chances to watch magic unfold. I'm excited to be part on such happenings now. I am currently going to Washington State University, finishing my pre-med classes and applying to Master's PA programs. I work full time and have a family consisting of my wife and 4 little children (we have a horde of pets as well). In my spare time I game some, read some, and write. I am a member of the community writers guild and have learned much over the years. I also want to issue a specific 'Thank you!' to Brandon for making his lectures available on YouTube. I have been able to learn much from those presentations as well as maintain the passion I sometimes feel wain during the stresses of my school semesters. I hope to get to know more of you all here that visit and run the site. Thank you again for allowing my to be a part of something great!
  13. This makes me feel ultra warm and fuzzy. http://torforgeblog.com/2014/03/03/words-of-radiance-and-the-fantasy-epic/
  14. Hey folks! I'm Liam, but will answer to almost anything... I've only read the Mistborn series (AoL included) and Steelheart so far. I've just started Elantris and am pretty excited for it. I'm also an RPG addict and just found the Mistborn Adventure Game, so if anyone has suggestions about campaigns and such I'm super interested. That's about it. I'll likely be semi active here depending on the reception and my schedules.
  15. After lurking around this site for a few months and then having an account for a few weeks, I have finally gotten around to making an introduction thread. Hello all! I'm Power, resident conspiracy theorist and aspiring logical philosopher. I've found this site to be an amazing place to discuss the Cosmere, with an excellent community. Many thanks to those of you who have helped get my theories running!
  16. Hello everybody, As etiquette demands, and that is a good thing, here is a short introduction of myself. My name is Mark. I live, work and otherwise procrastinate in my home town of Vlaardingen. (Which is located in The Netherlands, but you guys all knew that of course! I'm a happily married man and we have a gem of a daughter called: Wies. (what roughly translates as: Wise) My daily business is checking, repairing and otherwise manage dental problems. In other words i'm a dentist. I work in as general practitioner and as a special care dentist (for people with a disability) All books of Brandon are on the digital shelf. My favorite book is still Elantris, because of the world and the fantastic magic system. The work of Brandon on the Wheel of Time series was great. Personally I hope that Brandon will continue to write novels in het WoT universe. (but that is up to him and of course Harriet) (ed. R. Jordans wife) Well enough about myself. Thank you for reading this and I hope to meet some of you, or all, in a topic! Cheers!
  17. Greetings to all you lovely fantasy fans. I have attained Enlightenment upon registering on this website. I live in Australia, Melbourne and I have been an avid fantasy and sci-fi fan since I was a child. I remember discovering the Deltora Quests in my primary school library which set me adrift in the wonderful world of dreams and fantasy. The most profound moment of my reading life was when i started reading the Pellinor Quartet by Allison Croggon when i was 12. The first book, The Gift, was among the first high fantasy books i've read, and i found myself believing that the world Croggon crafted was a world that existed prior to the modern civilization. I searched for the poems and epics the book quoted in the local library, and, much to my dismay, wasn't able to find them. Since then, i have included fiction and fantasy as a part of my daily diet. I would consume anything i could get my hands, be it books, novels, comics or manga. Below are lists of my favourites: Favourite works of fiction 1. Tower of God by SIU 2. The Emperor’s Soul by Brandon Sanderson 3. The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson 4. The Demon Cycle by Peter V. Brett 5. The Empire Trilogy by Raymond E. Feist & Jimmy Wurt 6. The Mistborn Trilogy by Brandon Sanderson 7. Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson 8. The Sandman by Neil Gaiman 9. Spice and Wolf by Isuna Hasekura 10. The Horus Heresy (Warhammer 40k Favourite authors 1. SIU (Slave In Utero) - Author/Artist of Tower of God 2. Brandon Sanderson 3. Peter V. Brett 4. Neil Gaiman 5. Joss Whedon - Firefly, Serenity 6. Isuna Hasekura - Spice and Wolf Favourite TV Shows/Anime 1. Ghost in the Shell 2. Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind 3. Firefly by Joss Whedon 4. Serenity by Joss Whedon 5. Spice and Wolf 6. Psychopass 7. Game of Thrones I am also an active gamer, with most the competitive success in FPS titles such as Quake 3 and Counter-Strike 1.6 I don't play competitively anymore, only for leisure. I currently play League of Legends, Osu! and Starcraft II. If anybody chances across this and would like to converse with me (on books, comics, Animes, Mangas, T.V shows or games), contact me here or by Skype. I would love to know somebody of similar interests. Glad to be a part of this awesome community! 18. Hi, I'm Jed. I've read Elantris, The Mistborn Trilogy, and The Way of Kings, and am currently reading The Alloy of Law. I love Mr. Sanderson's work, and the Cosmere mythos is just plain awesome. I'm not a huge theorist by any means, but I really enjoy the novels and mythology, so I figured I would join the site to talk to some other fans (since I don't know many, unfortunately). I'm also a huge Tolkien and George R. R. Martin fan, so you can see where my literary interests lie...
  19. Hi everyone, I have lurked a bit and have enjoyed much of the commentary from everyone. I am an avid Sanderson fan (he's my flavorite) and I'm pretty sure I have read all of his published works (except WoT books, haven't gone there, yet?). I am just getting started on the cosmere stuff and have made a few posts in the comments of a couple of the Tor WoK chapter re-reads. Looking forward to contibuting a bit.
