  1. Hello All, I've been an avid reader all of my life and Sanderson is one of my favorite authors when it comes to worldbuilding and general story telling. I think I've read (and reread) all of the Cosmere stuff except for maybe a couple of short stories here and there. I love all this behind-the-scenes stuff and act as my own personal inquisitor when finding out WHAT'S GOING ON (who then forcibly passes along the information to my mother and sister). Anyway, that's the important stuff for here. Also, I feel it would be appropriate to mention that I really enjoy peppermint. Please feel free to spike any food coming my way with it.
  2. Hail and well met, for I am the humble bard Quadrophenia of Dahoo! Heh, all kidding aside, it's nice to be here! Last February I was assembling a reading list of esteemed fantasy authors and series ranging from the bleak philosophical nihilism of R. Scott Bakker's Second Apocalypse series to the fantasy-wrapped history lessons of Guy Gavriel Kay's Sarantine Mosaic when---walking about a local bookstore---I had found a certain title called "Mistborn" propped up on the table, with a sticker 'pon it that read "TOP EMPLOYEE RECOMMENDATION!" Really, now? Well, if it's a top recommendation from an employee of this establishment, I thought I'd give it a whirl. And I did. And by the time I had reached the last page a few short days later, I was in love. I've been a fan ever since! From there, I put the rest of the fantasy reading list on hold so I could read the rest of the Mistborn series (including the Wax & Wayne novels, the Secret History novella), Elantris, Warbreaker and (finally) The Stormlight Archive in their current totality. Needless to say, I've been won over as a lifelong fan. Heck, I even went so far as to buy the officially licensed Mistborn RPG and its Alloy of Law supplement. Granted, to play either I first had to pester several friends of mine into reading the serious, which, yes, took some time... but as I got the ball rolling I not only managed to get them to read Mistborn, they even started reading The Stormlight Archive. We were off to the races! We're big into tabletop gaming, we're old school that way (as old school as millennials can be, natch). I'm fairly well caught up as things are, have to say. Well, at least where the Cosmere novels and short stories are concerned. Still, I figured it was high time that--as a fan--I check out the official fansite, maybe make some friends amongst like-minded fellows and such. It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance! I'm a bit of a film snob, literary fantasy is my bag, I love tabletop gaming (and regular gaming) and I'm hoping someone can show me where I can get a decent picture to fit the necessary size requirement for my profile (XD). Hi there!
  3. I would like to politely introduce myself. To begin I have read the first 6 Mistborn Novels, in the middle of the first stormlight archive book, and I have read steelheart. I love brandon sandersons work, and he is able to include his readers in his works, allowing room for deep thought on issues and ethical problems. I am very glad to partake of this group of fantastic fans. I also love Orson Scott Card, and would even go so far to say that both authors are similar. They each have the intriguing questions, and problems, and engage in theories that definitely involve their fans. I spend most nights reading late, and I participate in debate.
  4. Well, as I am new to the forums and an introduction is deemed polite I'll acquiesce. I've now read the first six Mistborn novels, the first two released Stormlight Archive novels, Steelheart, and downloaded war breaker with the intention to finish it this week. I play piano and drum set, read a lot of classic literature, and enjoy creole food. Other than Brandon Sanderson, I especially enjoy Orson Scott Card's novels.
  5. I'm Lonewriter and as you can guess, I'm a writer from the Lone Star State of Texas. I am writing my first fantasy novel now and I hope to finish it this year. I've been writing it for two years now but every time I think I'm getting close to the last chapter I get a new idea, sometimes it can get frustrating but I'm determined to finish. I was glad to find this site as I've been a fan of Brandon Sandersn since he took over the Wheel of Time series after the death of Robert Jordan (RIP). I'm a fan of both of them, G.R.R. Martin and the King of fantasy, J.R.R. Tolkien. I can't wait to get started on Mr. Sanderson's YouTube videos and getting to know all of you. Thanks for having me.
  6. Hello! I've been lurking around the Coppermind and the 17th Shard for some time, but only recently joined the fold. Sanderson is a genius and personally my favorite author. I hope to learn a lot more from the aforementioned sites and all the members here too. I'm married and my spouse and I have multiple children. I'm an Active Duty U.S. military member (10 yrs)currently serving in Korea. If you're a Goodreads person, please send over a friend request. My profile is: https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/2956865-mike I'm familiar with Sanderson's Cosmere but am always looking for more information on it. These forums and the Coppermind have a wealth of knowledge. I have read 7 or 8 of Sanderson's books. The Stormlight Archive books being my favorite of Brandon's if not my favorite in general. I'm currently reading Warbreaker. I'm looking forward to being a member and contributing if and where I am able.
  7. Hey people, nice to meet you all My real name is Panos but here I'll be using "Honeth", the name of a character in one of my stories, since my all time favorite "Steelheart", was taken. As far as my reading is concerned, I have read all of Sanderson's works except the Rithmatist series and a few short stories. Also I haven't managed to get my hands on the White sand graphic novel as well. Ok so, having recently read The band of Mourning and The secret history, and having read more than a few posts here, there is just something that I need help with. 1st, who were the two people Klesier met, the ones who pointed him towards, what I assume were Elantrians? And secondly somewhere here I read that at the end of a book?/short story?, there was this line, "We Selish will get a shard of our own", or something like that. At the time I assumed it referred to the secret history but that was not the case. Anyway, I'm really happy to join this community and look forward to your replies
  8. Hey guys I'm Bryce, big fan of Brandon's Cosmere Books and im glad he finished wheel of time, I haven't read any of his other works but maybe I will. I don't write myself but listen to "Writing Excuses" because I enjoy listening to the process. You'll likely see me mostly on the copper mind but just wanted to say hello.
  9. Hey everyone! I've been a fan of Brandon Sanderson for awhile now, and I've read most of his works. I am a huge fan of the Cosmere books! I actually own at least two copies of most of them(an audiobook and phyisical copy). I'm pretty sure I'm the only Cosmere fan within a 50 mile radius, so I joined this site so I can have somewhere to go and chat with fellow Cosmere
  10. Hello everyone, Just a note to say I've been reading furiously and hope I contribute something worth while to this wonderful community. Thanks for having me. And I make my own cookies. They are Pumpkin spice with Chocolate Chip, if anybody wants some. Great end to a wonderful Lamb Curry with Kabulli Palau, maybe some banchan (Korean side dishes) in the meal. Oh, and a cup of Tom Kha Gai as a starter.
  11. So, this is where I say hi - I wanted to stop hijacking this thread about Renarin with me talking about myself, so I figured I'd make a thread in the appropriate board to talk about myself some more. I'm manavortex, currently twenty-eight, married to an awesome husband who has just recently yielded to my constant nagging and started reading the Mistborn trilogy, he's already halfway through the third. We share a tiny flat in Germany with two ginger cats and my bonus child (12), who didn't read either Alcatraz or the Rithmathist yet. I grew up bilingually, so my English mistakes will be twice as embarrassing. I'm also autistic, which is why I found a job at IT at a company who specialises on autistic employees, and since there's usually quite a fair bit of confusion about autism, I thought I'd give you the opportunity to shoot questions. I'm fairly impossible to insult, as long as you don't suggest I'm getting euthanised (and are serious about it), so ask anything, I can still refuse to answer if it's too personal. My short summary about myself being on the spectrum: Autistic people (I'll probably end up writing "autists", because that's a word in German) are not suffering from a disability any more than a hammer does for being bad at screwdriver-ing. Our brains are highly specialised - as everyone who ever played an RPG knows, you need to buy a lot of handicaps to get really high on the perks, so we "pay" for that with penalties on our dice rolls on everything social. Autism boils down to impression filtering. Our brain is, in each second, flooded with an extremely high number of impressions. We can process only a trickle of it, so most of it gets discarded, and the human brain is very good at telling the important bits from the less important bits. The autistic brain is... less efficient at that. One thing that makes living easy for "neurotypicals" is the pattern recognition. For example, when you visit a doctor, you visit a doctor. Your dentist moves, you need to see a new one? Unpleasant, but it's still a dentist. Well, less so for me - even if the doctor I used to see moved office, that's something completely new for me, and it's stressful. That's what makes autistic people so good at IT problems - trying to apply standard patterns as "I've seen something similar before" often just makes these worse. As for the social ineptitude, being a woman and the female brain being better-suited for social interaction than the male brain due to different wiring (for nonverbal communication with babies and the like), I'm somewhat "better off" than I'd be if I was a guy. Also, I have a fairly high IQ, which comes with quick thinking and an extremely high information processing rate. (I don't say that to disrate anyone, by the way, it's just a fact!) With that I can somewhat make up for the lack of intuitive understanding of nonverbal communication, but it is of course rather exhausting for me, which is why I prefer text. (At least a smiley will give a clear indication whether or not my opposite is joking!) The ability of consciously substituting my poor intuitive grasp of nonverbal and indirect communication patterns has ensured that I slipped through the unusual behaviour net until I was 18, when I got myself diagnosed with ADD. The medication (stimulants) gave my brain an additional boost to help me with the tiresome effort of filtering, which is how I made it through university, until I finally shipwrecked on my bachelor thesis and slipped into a depression. Fortunately it was a bipolar one, so in one of my manic episodes I managed to get myself help, and during that help I was diagnosed with the autistic spectrum class specialisation. I don't consider myself disabled or handicapped because I'm highly gifted in several areas. I'm a fast learner if I set my mind to something, and cutting through piles of information is something I can do easily - I'm also well-equipped for understanding highly complex and/or complicated matters. I wouldn't want to trade those skills for a "normal" brain, even if it meant that I could enjoy parties and be like all the other children. Since I know that I'm entitled to being like I am (like, there's a reason for it, I'm not just being "weird") I allow myself to seek enjoyment where I find it instead of where everyone else finds it, which is - mostly - online, but also in books. The character I feel most connected to is Jasnah. I can see me in a similar position, had my upbringing been different. So, umm, one novel later, nice to meet you.
  12. I'm new here and I have one question for now. How can you ask Brandon Sanderson questions?
  13. Found this wonderfully forum while trolling the internet for Cosmere info. Talk about a gold mine!!
  14. Hello fellow Sanderson fanatics! I've spent a lot of time pouring through this website over the last few years as I devoured every last bit of the cosmere I can get my hands on, and after meeting Brandon himself at the Chicago (Oakbrook) signing earlier this week, figured I needed to officially join the 17th Shard. Glad to be here, love all the amazing theories, questions, and ideas I've seen so far, and can't wait to dig in for more.
  15. Posting the requested new person introduction. Sanderson's books are among my favorite books, probably only second to Rothfuss' Kingkiller Chronicles. I was pleased to hear about the continuation of the Mistborn series but really hope that the next Stormlight Archives book will not be put off too long. I think what i Like most is the unique and different abilities systems that Sanderson creates in his books. My joy at finding this site turned into dismay when I read through several of the theories that link many of the series/books together. This would not be a problem if it was just in passing, but I will get a headache trying to remember everything if they are all majorly tie together. Anyways, cheers!
  16. Hi everyone. I was roaming the page and ended up here looking for more info on Mistborn. I entered into this world through a desire to play the rpg, which led me to read the books to know what I was getting myself into. As many of you probably know, that's a path of no return. Looking for more to read about the world of Scaldria beyond the annotations and the like, I found that this saga may not be as alone as I asumed in the first place. I saw mentions of the cosmere and the shards that weren't in the books. So before I get myself into trouble by spoiling something important, I decided to enter here to ask for help and guidance in this path, to know where to go first or next without spoils. I also want a place to share on the experience of playing the rpg. I am in a group of whom only the narrator and I have read the books and it makes for both fun and frustration trying to not imply too much and putting up with certain individuals who only seek destruction for the fun of it. I think that's pretty much what I am. A reader who always seeks out more on the subject when a story is well crafted and fun to read. I await instructions to know where I should go next from here. Thank you!
  17. Pretty much picked up a copy of Elantris when it was announced that Brandon S is going to complete the works of Robert Jordan. And since then have devoured every Sanderson book. I love his work, and google brought me to 17th Shard (cool name for the forum) in search for Cormere. Glad to be here among the fans !!!
  18. Hello to all fellow fans of Brandon Sanderson! (Do we have an official name?) I discovered Brandon Sanderson through his amazing work on the Wheel of Time series and am reading Elantris, but I was curious to what people recommended to read next. I am a huge fan of fantasy and magic and having heard a little about the worlds that Sanderson has created I am interested how books like Mistborn and The Stormlight Archive are interconnected. I adore the Silmarillion and of course the Wheel of Time series. That's about it I am just looking for suggestions and before anyone asks me about cookies I make my own so I can eat all of the cookie dough.
  19. Hello there I'm obviously new here here and I'm introducing myself so that it is less weird and not so silent-stalkerish when I post a comment somewhere. Robert Jordan introduced me to Sanderson...who did a brilliant job finishing the Wheel of Time. I have now read the WoK and WoR. I am almost through with the Mistborn Series. On a personal note, I am cookie intolerant....I think. That and my mom said, "Never take weird cookies from strangers.".
  20. Hello everyone - Valthyr here! I'm loving this forum and I finally decided to join in on the awesomeness. I discovered Brandon about four years ago, and immediately fell in love with his works (especially The Way of Kings). I'm also looking forward to trying out the Reading Excuses group as I really need feedback on some things I've been working on (science fiction mainly, and some fantasy). For now I haven't been published anywhere, but that's the goal!
  21. Because I get spooked easily too. Honestly, I just couldn't think of any clever title. Hello, I'm a Sandersonian from Indonesia, currently majoring in Computer Science and fantasy books are my solace from the realm of logic and code. I've never met anyone who has read any of Sanderson's books in person, and since I often fail to suppress my urge to talk about Stormlight Archive or Mistborn, my friends think that I'm possessed by some blabbering alien. I've read WoK, WoR, Mistborn Trilogy+AoL, Sixth of The Dusk, Steelheart, & The Rithmatist. I love all of them but WoK was the most jaw-dropping book I've ever read. My (currently) favourite character is Spook. Hoid is a very close second. Other authors I love: Tolkien, Robin Hobb, Anthony Ryan, & Michael J. Sullivan. I'm a non-native English speaker, a full-time daydreamer, and I love bubbles. Have a good day!
  22. Hello, So my name is Aaron and I just recently decided to get involved on this website. My age is 24 and I am going to school at USU and will be transferring to ISU in the fall. I first started reading Sanderson's books when a friend at college recommended that I read Mistborn and the very next day my boss made the same recommendation. Since then I have read almost everything that he has read and keep checking for release dates. My personal favorite is The Rithmatist. My second is probably Warbreaker. I really hope that someday soon he decides to write the sequel he's been thinking about. Other than that my hobbies are reading, video games, and movies. If you have any questions you want to ask me go right ahead and I'll try to respond. I look forward to be a part of this website. Peace
  23. Hey! I'm new to this forum, though I've been reading on it for a little while. My name is Herman Fassett and Brandon Sanderson is my favorite author. Sorry for my cheesy username... My favorite book of his is Words of Radiance. I like all of his other books too (I've read almost all of them), but the Stormlight Archive, most especially Words of Radiance, is just amazing. I've always wanted to create fan art. But I'm terrible at drawing. I can however sort of write music, so you may see some songs from me in the Creator's Corner soon. Actually, I'm working on one right now that follows Shallan's life We'll see how it turns out. Anyway, glad to join finally, and I know I'll have a good time.
  24. Delurk is a word. For sure. At any rate, I have been lurking for a while, and thought it time I said hello. I've been a fan of Brandon Sandreson's work for some time now. I was introduced to his writing by a cousin (you can never have too many cousins, amirite?) who recommended the Wheel of Time series. I'm a bit ashamed to say I flaked out on Wheel of Time halfway through, but I decided to check out the writer that finished the series, to see if he had the same style as Jordan. I quickly became a fan of everything and anything Sanderson. Cosmere stories are my special love, particularly the Stormlight Archive. However, I don't get tired of re-reading any of his work. I'm also really enjoying the Alloy of Law series thus far, and can't wait for the rest of this bonus trilogy. The Stormlight Archive is the friend you go to for deep and fascinating conversation. Alloy of Law is the buddy you take drinking. I liked it so much, in fact, I'm currently working on a Ranette cosplay for an upcoming con. I'm also working on a Silence Montane cosplay. Fortunately, it will be a con that the Sanderson himself will be attending, so there may be enough fans there to actually recognize the characters I'm doing (which will be quite the novel experience for me.). When I'm not reading, I can also be found attending fan-run comicons, making cosplay props and jewelry (a new addiction for me), playing video games (mostly puzzle and simulator games, with the odd fps) and drawing. I'm also into swing dancing, live music (folk, jazz, big band, and gypsy rock especially), 3D modeling, and the Oxford comma. I subscribe to fairly common fandoms: Doctor Who, Firefly, and Star Trek (Picard can be my captain any day). I may also have the tendency to over-inform. So, yeah. Hello, 17th Shard! Edit: Derp. Realized I managed to delete video games from my interest list. That's what I get for posting from a mobile device.
  25. Hi. For the Holidays in 2013- 2014 I got a copy of Steelheart. I was immediately hooked. I read Way of Kings 2 months later and the sequel after that. I have been working through the Cosmere ever since. I have read everything but the short stories and Legion. I hope to posting intresting topics soon. Thanks. By the way, how do you get that stuff under your post?
