  1. Bear with me on this (and cure me of my ignorance if necessary), I am rather new to the Cosmere stuff. I only have a big picture grounding when it comes to Adonalsium. If I am not mistaken the shardholders (less Sazed of course) are from Yolen. Looking back to Mistborn, it has been shown in the books that 'human' life on Scadrial was the result of a joint effort of Preservation (sorry, don't recall off hand his original name) and Ruin (Ati) to create this life. Presumably, all shardworld 'humans' were created in a similar fashion with, again, presumably, Yolen 'humans' being used as the general pattern but with subtle differences from world-to-world. Now, regarding Hoid specifically being able to have multiple magic adeptness (i.e., lightweaving, feruchemy, etc.) in conjunction with the comments above about identity. Hoid is also from Yolen (homeworld) so he embodies the master DNA, if you will, upon which shardworld 'humans' were patterned. Could this be the reason why Hoid is able to use a variety of magic systems from multiple shardworlds? In other words, if the sDNA of a person from Scadrial is required to use Feruchemy, etc. in the same way a key is required to open a lock, then could it be that the sDNA from Yolen is some kind of master key which is able to open the locks from each shardworld? If so, this would go a long way to explaining Hoid's versatility.
  2. I have been wondering this ever since I noticed that Hoid is a different age in the books he appears in. Or, at least he seems to be a different age. Does he only visit each world once, in a certain order? Or is he ageless? Any theories on his age? I think he is ageless, or can change his age. Maybe he has a power from a certain world that can make him age the way he wants? Please put your thoughts here, maybe ask around.
  3. Hi everyone, This is still a very raw theory that only emerged yesterday, so feel free to poke holes into it as you choose... I was speaking to Peter Ahlstrom yesterday, and at one point, the conversation led to this: Me:... an odd one maybe...but apart from White Sand (and the proposed argument that she is the author of the Ars Arcanum), has Khrissalla been in any other published books? PA: Someone should ask Brandon that at a signing Me: Hmm interesting - like my Baon=Blunt theory (something we discussed in May 2013) Me: Holy Christ...the Terriswoman world hopper...the nursemaid on Nalthis...would that be her? PA: Hmm... Now hear me out on this: It has been said that she is the most realmatically aware, although Hoid and Nazh come close. Nazh has been confirmed to be in Khriss' employ (and get's the worst of the bargain!) been to Threnody, Roshar and Scadrial Khriss is a scientist, and has been proposed as the author of the Ars Arcana This author is a member of the 17th Shard Khriss would be described as Makabaki if she were on Roshar. Makabaki are dark skinned, which both Khriss and Baon/Blunt/Vao are, as are the Terris (i believe - has been a while since i read the Mistborn series) It seems and sounds as if Khriss has appearances in 'published' books (so not including White Sand), and if she is indeed the author of the Ars Arcana, she has visited Scadrial, Sel, Nalthis, Roshar, Taldain (as an inhabitant), and we can possibly assume Threnody (as she has Nazh in her employ) It could also be suggested that she is Vathi in 'Sixth of the Dusk' - Vathi is also dark skinned, and has "the accent of one who is educated". She has curls, something that Khriss is described as having as well. Vathi is also described as "babbling out words as she worked", something that Khriss often did, usually to Kenton's amusement. She has a weapon that is almost like a musket with an explosive harpoon of sorts - the only cultures to have developed gunpowder to this extent are from Taldain and Scadrial. However, Scadrial has got ballistic technology down, while Vathi seems almost surprised at this working. It has also been written in one of the book signings (can't remember which post on here it was) that Sixth of the Dusk is the farthest into the future of the Cosmere we have seen, suggesting that the 'Ones Above' maybe possibly be future Allomancy fueled starships from Scadrial circa Mistborn Trilogy 3. So- I propose that she is not only Vathi, but the 'Terriswoman' in Nalthis as well. Please pick holes, disprove, or add as you see fit!
  4. So I am not always here reading various theories, therefore I am surely creating a hypothesis that has already been made before. But what if the Ghostbloods (or at least Iyatil / Mraize) are part of a larger and "opposite" organization to the 17th shard? It does create a nice symmetry again, but could be taking the symmetry idea too far. It seems that Mraize and Iyatil are both worldhoppers. From the scene when Shallan first meets Mraize, she seems to see several things from different worlds, and probably there is another thread where everyone has figured out where these things are from: A vial of pale sand. - White Sand? A couple of thick hairpins. - For Hemalurgy? A lock of golden hair. - No idea The branch of a tree with writing on it. - Not sure, but the writing makes me think of AonDor. A silver knife. - Threnody, holding back the Shades? An odd flower preserved in some kind of solution. - Nalthis/Tears of Edgli? A chunk of pale pink crystal looked like it might be some kind of gemstone - Not sure Perhaps the Ghostbloods are going directly against the 17th shard, trying to figure out how to get super powerful through different types of investiture? Ok, apologies if all this has been said before.
  5. I was re-reading both WoK and WoR and started to wonder about Sigzil. We know that Sigzil is definitely native to Roshar and that he is a trained Worldsinger. This is interesting in itself, but we have to remember that he was trained by Hoid/Wit. Given that, exactly how much does Sigzil know about what is going on in the Cosmere? Does he know about Odium, about Hoid's plan and the other worlds? About what is going on with Kaladin? There are places in WoK (I can't recall exactly where at the moment) where Sigzil looks at Kaladin or says something to him and seems to know A LOT more than he is letting on. Hoid is a very enigmatic character that is hard to get to know, and I think that Sanderson might be setting Sigzil up as our means of getting to know him--and his motives--better. What do you all think?
  6. The quote itself is taken from the Diagram and Androtagia thinks that it may be referencing Mraize. It makes more sense that it would be referencing Hoid instead. But who is the wanderer, the wild piece, the one who makes no sense? I glimpse at his implications, and the world opens to me. I shy back. Impossible. Is it?
  7. I promised some uploads, so here's a start. This is a mini sketch (about two pinkies big) that I quickly drew up. Hopefully I'll draw a full size version of this soon and scan it. This is how I imagined Hoid, belting out insult and playing his guitar/lute on a stool. Enjoy! (I accept comments, constructive critism, advice, and llamas by the pound)

  8. So I've been looking around, and so far I haven't found a definitive list of worldhoppers. So I figured I'd start one, and hopefully people will chime in to help me fill this out. So far, we've got: Hoid: We all know and love him. He appears in every Cosmere book. From: Yolen Appearance: varies? 9. “What might have been is an abstraction Remaining a perpetual possibility Only in a world of speculation.” T.S. Eliot, “Burnt Norton,” Four Quartets, lines 6-8. Crashing through the dimensional barrier came the fallen dragon. Never having seen a dragon before, government people wanted to cut it open and learn about its anatomy. But they were government people, secretive. They wanted the project “off the books.” So they brought in the rich philanthropist Edgli to pay for everything. Then they assembled their team, which included the following: Dr. Cult, a leading biologist, who had become pregnant by Dr. Tanavast, her “significant other” Dr. Tanavast, who wanted to “do right” by Dr. Cult and marry her Dr. Rayse, a spiteful, disagreeable man who wanted Dr. Cult for himself and hated Dr. Tanavast Dr. Skaize, head of the team, known for his overbearing personality Nurse Aona, who adored Dr. Skaize and would do anything for him Dr. Ati, a pathologist who loved dissecting and taking things apart Dr. Leras, Dr. Ati’s medical partner who had responsibility for managing their practice and keeping everything running smoothly while Dr. Ati was out buying drinks for everyone and generally making havoc Mr. Hoid, the teams’s clerk and reporter, writing the record of the proceedings. They move forward with the autopsy, “oohing” and “aahing” at their discoveries, Hoid taking careful notes. Eventually they reach the dragon’s heart, which looks like a giant gemstone. They remove this organ to examine it, only to have it slip from their hands to the stone floor and shatter…Yes, the Shattering was literally a shattering. Forget the Fantastic Four! We now have the Scintillating Sixteen! The powers of creation rush from the gemheart in 16 separate “whooshes,” investing these individuals with god-like powers. They vaporize. Yolen is too small for them. Different groups of them take off in different directions, and the rest is Cosmere history.
  10. Greetings, more of question than a theory but was trawling theoryland when i found Brandon's post on the history of Aon Ene. For reference; Forgive me if I'm a little late to the party on this and if it has already been commented on but sound like anyone we know? An interesting bit of info So to my main questions/ideas/thoughts.... Your thoughts/ideas? (also if this is a bit too cosmere-y, can a mod move the topic please thanks in advance)
  11. Is it just me, or does Fortuity reminds you of Hoid pumped up on pewter, tin, and atium? "...making room for a man in a bright red pinstriped suit, a red fedora, and a deep red and black cape." "He had a long face and a hawkish nose" He can detect if anyone can kill him and can dodge a a hailstorm of bullets. he's also very strong and very nimble. Any thoughts? Lol Its all just stupid speculation ;P
  12. Alright. So I was thinking about music and stuff and listening to some a little bit. And I'm like, "Hey! This song reminds me of Hoid!" And thus created was this article. Feel free to post more music for more characters/ more music for some of the characters already listed here. Hoid's Music: Tarantella https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_HwBYBPeNg Kaladin's Music: Child of LIght Hymn of Light* https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6w222S7ia0 Shallan's Music: Child of Light Woods Darker Than Night (For the timid Shallan) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QfeXBePMLf8 Shallan's Music: Child of LIght Bolmus Populi (For the happy, outgoing version of Shallan) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5TxMSzHdmh0 and Child of LIght Dark Creatures (For the Shardbearing, Lightweaving Shallan) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=btKf2zVQP7E Adolin/Dalinar's Music: Child of LIght Jupiter's Lightning https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUBgV-RVPL8 Navani's Music: Child of Light Patches of Sky https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4jB2XHJAW4 Eshonai and Parshendi's Music: Child of Light: Metal Gleamed in the Twilight https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YdVLWMPOT4s Szeth's Music: G/S Burned Tower Remix PokemonRemixStudio https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zUlJA7YC_dk Hope you enjoy listening to these. They're all amazingly composed/recomposed by talented people. Kudos to them! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Here are some revisions I have for them and why I picked them: Hoid's Music: Intriguingly mysterious, like Hoid himself. Kaladin's Music: Reminds me of the battle scenes with Kaladin. Sort of like him trying to do what's right and best for others, and being simply amazing, pulling through every ordeal. Shallan's Music (Timid): This music sounds rather timid, like it could be played right after a tragedy, and it sort of reminds me of Shallan's conflicted childhood. Shallan's Music (Happy): This is a very cheerful song, as if there were no wrong in the world, sort of like how Shallan acts. Shallan's Music (Confident): Reminds me of the fact that she just goes through every trial. Adolin/Dalinar's Music: Doesn't this song just say "Shardbearer Champion" and "Blackthorn" to you? It does to me. Navani's Music: This one just seemed to fit Navani's personality. Especially in the Words of Radiance. Eshonai and Parshendi's Music: This sounds incredibly fierce and evil, like Stormform. Szeth's Music: This one sounded conflicted, confused, and insane. Like Szeth. *Or should I say STORMlight?
  13. This is my First Theory post, please feel free to tell me if you think i'm horrifically off-base or if there's a WoB that I haven't encountered that disproves this. I'm working my way back through Way of Kings and something in Hoid's conversation with Dalinar in Ch. 54: Gibletish, struck me as odd this time through - Specifically the mention of Adonalsium. The general consensus, that he was just name-dropping the God-Shard's name to see if Dalinar knew it, leaves a crucial question unanswered: Why did Hoid think that Dalinar would have heard that name before? The obvious answer is that he knew Dalinar's visions were coming from Honor and didn't know what information was included in those visions. However, the way in which Hoid did the name drop stood out to me this time. "Wit," Dalinar said with a sigh. "I haven't the mind for this tonight. I'm sorry if I'm missing your intent, but I have no idea what you mean." "I know," Wit said, then looked directly at him. "Adonalsium." This seems like an odd way to go about checking if he knew that name, even if you ignore that Hoid is being a bit more direct than usual during that bit of conversation. To me, it seems almost as if Hoid is calling Dalinar Adonalsium, rather than just checking to see if the highprince recognized it. If that is the case, then the implication would be that Dalinar is somehow a reincarnation of the consciousness that was originally behind Adonalsium, and Hoid was calling him that to see if there would be any reaction. Is there something in how Dalinar is acting that reminds Hoid (who we know was present when Adonalsium was shattered) of the mind behind the being? So, what does everyone think? Am I just misreading it, or could this be a very real possibility? Or have I missed a WoB that completely counters what I'm proposing?
  14. I´m new so don´t actually know for certain if you had this poll before? Absolutely hate Wit/Hoid. Talks in riddles most of the time. He is just annoying. Like Renarin a lot. He is the only one who hasn´t done anything wrong yet. Hope he will figure more and more as the story developes.
  15. If I recall, TLR kept the sDNA of the southern people of Scadrial free from allomantic and feruchemical abilities, like an experimental control. Which makes me wonder how they would have seen any of the Metallic Arts manifest? It seems reasonable that, in order to develop something, especially something mechanical, like a mechanical way to utilize Investure, observation or some knowledge of its existence would be a prerequisite. One possibility could be that somehow, someway, someone intentionally or unintentionally demonstrated allomantic, ferchemical, an/or hemelurgical abilities to them. Well, who do we know that has this knowledge and seems to be involved, usually in subtle ways, with providing knowledge to key people at key points? Granted, that knowledge is not necessarily something that the people even realize is important at the time given, but we the passive viewers of the Cosmere do. It’s known that we’ll eventually get Mistborn: A Cosmerian Odyssey ® with FTL travel. And, many of the theories seem to involve some sort of use of the mechanical access to the Metallic Arts. This FTL and spaceflight seems to be critical to the final phase of the Mistborn story as well as the Cosmere as a whole. Additionally, we know of someone who’s essentially immortal, has lerasium, likely feruchemistry, and can worldhop. I theorize (with no evidence to site whatsoever J) that our ol’ buddy Hoid provided the seed to the southern Scadrial to develop the “more mechanical” way of using the Metallic Arts, whatever that ends up being. I would presume that he did this so that the people of Scadrial would have FTL/spaceflight by the time his final plan, whatever it is, comes together, and well, because he’s Hoid. First theory post, but there’s no need to be gentle; please rip apart if there’s something I way off on here. Haven’t come across any speculation on how the mechanical Metallic Arts developed while spending (way too much) time here at the 17th Shard, so figured I throw this out there. EDIT: Thanks Voidus and Unhinged for corrections & input there. So, it looks like the folks of Southern Scadrial were the same as pre-TLR Scadrials from the North: some Mistings popping up here and here, little to no Mistborn, and likely some more developed level of Feruchemistry since it was more prevalent in the population pre-TLR. This does weaken the "theory" quite a bit , but I'm of the opinion that Hoid's influence in development of Mechanic Metallic Arts is still an interesting suggestion, still has no real evidence to support it, and is still in the realm of the Hoidish
  16. I don't know if it has been remarked before, but Hoids reaction to first seeing Shallan (in one of the flashbacks) seems very interesting: (WOR Chapter 45, page 522) Now, while it could be just normal Hoid antics, it seems to me like he was genuinely surprised at the sight of her. As there really isn't anything else about her of note at this time, it seems to me that it can only be that Hoid could tell that she was a surgebinder. In which case, how can Hoid tell? Can he tell whether anybody is able to use investiture, or did he just see something specific to surgebinders (maybe he could see pattern, even though he was almost dead)? Moreover, I'm inclined to believe the sight of even a surgebinder shouldn't cause such a reaction. Perhaps Hoid didn't think there were surgebinders around anymore, and Shallan was the first one he saw. I'm not sure what that would mean, but it definitely seems interesting.
  17. I just went to a book signing with Brandon Sanderson, and I asked him the following questions. I think you'll find his answers interesting. Me: Did any kandra survive the end of Hero of Ages? Brandon: Yes. M: Are there any kandra on Roshar? B: Yes. M: Is Axies one of them? B: No, but good guess. The Aimians are a different race. M: Did any Atium survive the Hero of Ages? B: Yes. M: We know that Hoid has a bead of Lerasium. Does he have any atium? B: He has access to atium, yes. M: Does Hoid use his feruchemical abilities with the atium to see the future? B: Ah ah ah, I haven't confirmed that Hoid had feruchemical abilities. M: You haven't? B: No, but most people think he has allomancy. (He grinned slyly when he said that, which may or may not be a red herring. You really can't tell with him.) M: Do Axies's and Jasnah's reversed shadows have a common source? B: Yes. M: Does it have anything to do with its draw towards Investiture? B: (After a pause) It has more to do with Shadesmar than Investiture. M: What does Investiture look like in the Spiritual Realm? B: Er, I haven't said anything about that yet. M: But is it important? B: Yes, it's important. M: Could you say that it looks anything like mist? B: Well you could say that it looks anything like mist. (He smiled here as well, but I think it was just because he was teasing me) M: Can you give me a hint about the Parshendi gods? It can't be Odium, right? Because it's plural... B: No, it's not Odium. The Parshendi gods... (he paused here for a while) are closer to what the humans would call "Heralds." There you guys go. I tried my best to remember his exact wording, but I may have gotten a couple words off. I wrote it down a few minutes after I talked to him. Good luck theorizing!
  18. Preface: So in the formulating of my thoughts for this post I did look at what has been written in some related posts. That being said I certainly have not read all of the posts related to this, nor am I aware of every word of brandon. This is (in my opinion) a good thing, because it means my thoughts are my own, and could offer some unique perspectives. So please do not be upset if I reiterate what others have already said, as I believe I will say it with a different perspective and viewpoint. Also, if I say something completely wrong due to some obscure word of brandon, I would request you tell me politely, and also realize that WoBs are less than perfect at times, as Brandon could be saying one thing but meaning another. People often make, by mistake, inaccurate blanket statements when trying to answer questions in a way that doesn't "spoil too much." Brandon has probably done this many times already, if less than most people due to his efforts to keep his cosmere world comments rooted in the canon he has in his personal wiki. Intro: There are two main areas that I will deal with, which are both separate and related, the natures (or postulated histories) of adonalsium and hoid. I want to talk about them in detail, but some of what I say wont make sense if you don't know where I am heading. So here is my thesis apart from its arguments: adonalsium was a man-formed tool which developed consciousnesses, adonalsium took measures before the shattering of its being to preserve its conscience in a being whom we now know as hoid. Please do not discredit these statements until reading what I have to say. important quotes (red one is very important): “I learned it many, many years ago from a man who didn't know who he was, Your Majesty. It was a distant place where two lands meet and gods have died.” —Hoid to Siri on where he learned his particular method of storytelling.[17] As Hoid developed that type of storytelling,[34] it's possible that the "man who didn't know who he was" is himself. Also, "where gods have died"and "many, many years ago" seem to speak of the Shattering. (from the coppermind) "Nonsense. Balderdash. Figgldygrak. Isn't it odd that gibberish words are often the sounds of other words, cut up and dismembered, then stitched into something like them—yet wholly unlike them at the same time? “I wonder if you could do that to a man. Pull him apart, emotion by emotion, bit by bit, bloody chunk by bloody chunk. Then combine them back together into something else, like a Dysian Aimian. If you do put a man together like that, Dalinar, be sure to name him Gibberish, after me. Or perhaps Gibletish. ” —Hoid to Dalinar (after namedropping Adonalsium)[19] “I began life as a thought, a concept, words on a page. That was another thing I stole. Myself. Another time, I was named for a rock.” “A pretty one, I hope.” “A beautiful one,” the man said. “And one that became completely worthless for my wearing it. ” —Hoid to Kaladin[18] The power needed a consciousness to direct it. In this matter, I am still rather confused. Why would power used to create and destroy need a mind to oversee it? And yet, it seems to have only a vague will of its own, tied in to the mandate of its abilities. Without a consciousness to direct it, nothing could actually be created or destroyed. It's as if the power of Preservation understands that its tendency to reinforce stability is not enough. If nothing changed, nothing would ever come to exist. -mistborn hero of ages epigraphs (Edit: recently found and very relevant WoB Q: If Endowment were killed, would the Returned still come? A: Somebody needs to hold the magic. If no one holds the magic, the magic will start to gain sentience. Interesting and bizarre things happen then, so I would say yes, but with the caveat that with whoever picks up the power or what happens with the power could end up changing that.) The nature of Adonalsium and of Hoid: The two quotes that matter a lot to me in this section is the epigraph describing the nature of preservation's needing a conscience, and wits saying that he was a beautiful rock (for which he was named) that when he wore it made it "worthless." Let us postulate that pre-adonalsium there were many powers in the universe, (it is hinted that adonalsium had a potential threat in many WoBs). Lets also say that some people decided to create an incredibly powerful tool by combining several powers into one, new, massively powerful creation. Similarly to the way that Antium is the body of ruin, lets imagine adonalsium is a rock which is some sort of an alloy of many different power sources (this may be why the different shards appear to manifest in different physical forms). Now, the creators of this were looking to create a tool, a massively powerful tool, a "beautiful rock" that is adonalsium. They succeeded but failed to realize one thing. The power needed a consciousness to direct it (look at HoA epigraph). Wit describes himself as having stolen his identity from words on a page. I argue that adonalsium created a consciousness for itself from what he was able to observe in the world around him (if ruin could read and change writing, so could adonalsiums power observe it). This made the tool useless. As hoid states, in "wearing" the power, he has made it "worthless" or, in my theory, useless to its creators. Imagine making a massive global defense satellite system, only to have the supercomputer that controls it develop into an AI. You now have a massive weapon in the hands of an unknown and uncontrollable variable. Whoever created adonalsium obviously was very powerful and knowledgeable, and sought to destroy adonalsium through other powers in the world. Back to the computer analogy. If the super computer was stored at one sight, it is vulnerable, so what does it do? It moves itself into many different servers and locations to prevent anyone from targeting it and destroying it. When adonalsium perceived a threat to itself, he sought to prevent his potential destruction by shattering himself into many separate parts. However, he didn't want to die, but his consciousness, indeed his identity, was about to be shattered into 16 pieces, so what does he do? He makes plans to bring his broken consciousness back together into a new host. Lets look back at Wits discussion with dalinar about breaking a man into different parts and bringing him back together into giberish. I would argue that Wit talks about this in a sentimental way (name him after me part, and language like "bloody chunk by bloody chunk") as if he himself had that happen to him. Look also at the quote about someone who didn't know who he was, in which he was apparently also describing himself, it makes sense that his recombining would leave him incredibly confused. I would argue that adonalsium successfully managed to bring (at least parts of) his consciousness back together to form a "giberish" representation of his original self. However, he only did so for his consciousness. I remember a WoB that hoid was offered a shard but turned it down. It seems to me that someone who had once held all 16 shards together, and is now but a shade of what he was, a consciousness that had been torn apart and sown back together, would not want to hold but one aspect of himself, a constant reminder of the pain he had gone through. Hoid's goal may indeed be to eventually reform adonalsium's body, but perhaps his previous consciousness gave Hoid the task of first ensuring the shards potential threats were removed, so that he could be safely reformed. Notes: One interesting comment on the coppermind about hoid is that he is Brandon's favorite character, which, if my theory is true, makes perfects sense. Hoid would be, after all, the root cause of almost everything happening in the cosmere. Perhaps Hoids love of stories comes from the fact that his very consciousness was created from stories or "words on a page." Maybe his concept was some hero in a story, and he assumed a consciousness that reflected it. Note also that Hoid has a massive and extensive knowledge of stories. One whole in my argument is the unfinished work on Dragonsteel and its first chapter, here are some quotes from it: (edit: to clarify as someone pointed out "For clarity that is Liar of Partinel not Dragonsteel. While it was technically part of the Dragonsteel sequence", this is also a rather old work and certainly not cannon, however whatever does end up being written would likely share certain traits, so it can probably be "trusted" to give hints of hoids nature.) But there had been a story to Midius’s life, and Hoid loved stories. Midius smiled faintly, thinking of the old man’s temperament. Hoid would rather accept a wildman, bloodied and dangerous, into his company than the well- trained son of a wealthy man. The man of the wilderness had a better story. A wildman. . . . Midius thought. Yes. Raised by the Chan people. That’s who I was. He describes himself similarly to the way that the Warbreaker quote does, he loves stories and doesn't know who he was, "a wildman." Perhaps hoid loved stories so much because adonalsium formed his consciousness from "words on a page." Midius studied the words again, then carefully rolled up the parchment and tied the frayed string. “You were so close,” he said. “You could feel it.” He placed the scroll in a sack, then turned toward the corpse, resting on its shelf-like bed at the side of the hut. “I can’t solve the problem from here,” Midius said softy. “I’m not smart enough for that. Notice how he appears to have knowledge of the solution as if he knows how close his master was, but how could he know that? it appears the assassination just happened, and why wouldn't hoid tell his master? Also he says he isn't "smart enough for that." perhaps his return to consciousness left him without the knowledge that he had once held, only a dim shadow. No. No he didn’t. This was him. He told himself that forcefully. Perhaps he struggles with his identity, after all, in my theory he had pieces of a consciousness thrust into his brain bit by bloody bit. He looked up at he body. “And thank you,” he whispered. “For what you have done for me. I think you shall never really understand the new chance you gave me for life. For that, I shall try to see people as you did.” He says he will try to see people as his master did. Perhaps hoid hated people because at the moment of his forming consciousness people immediately plotted to destroy him and he had had to destroy himself to survive. Hesitantly, he reached into a pocket and pulled out a handful of dust. Then, he threw it into the air, imagining his master’s face and Weaving the light. That face appeared in front of him. Aged, wise, beardless. Alive. As Midius remembered him. Midius reached out, almost believing his own illusion for a moment. However, as soon as he touched the face, it shattered back to dust and sprinkled down to the ground. this could be considered evidence of objects that held power other than adalniusm, he appears to have to use this dust to light weave, even as stormlight is used. Perhaps this gives more basis for my assuming there were different objects of power that could have been formed together into adonalsium. Conclusion: obviously most of what I have just said is very far-fetched and based only loosely in facts. But heck, I had fun theory crafting, so now you guys can have fun tearing it apart "piece by bloody piece" and putting it back together into something new. Also, sorry for making you read such a long chunk of text LOL
  19. Portrait that I painted of Wit/Hoid. DEFINITELY a favorite character in Brandon's Cosmere. Every new discovery about this guy and his past/nature/powers opens up the universe in a way that most other characters can't quite compare to. Thank you, Brandon, for writing us such an intriguing role. If you folks know any cool facts about Wit that I don't know (and you probably do), tell me abou 'em! grantmhansen.com
  20. Hi Guys! I'm a long time reader and first time poster to this forum and I was wondering what your opinions on a idea I had. I'm not sure if this has been discussed already, but in the WoB Q: Will we learn more about the character currently known as Hoid in Words of Radiance? A: Yes, you will. Watch for a story told at a bar. *I dont know how to quote sorry* I've seen a lot of people agree that this scene is when they are discussing Rock's meeting with his god at the tavern, but I have noticed a possible but probably unlikely option that Brandon was being tricky with his wording. I was thinking that maybe the story told at the bar was actually Wit/Hoids story that he told to Kaladin through the bars of his cell in WoR. A wild theory but I wanted to know what you think
  21. It seems a bit unlikely, as I don't know his backstory and seems unlikely to have much to do with Nalthis, at least not at first, but he is immortal somehow. It seems like he might have enough BioChroma to be at least of the Second Heightening. In WoR, he says: "Perfect pitch makes this all so much easier than it once was...." while tuning his Enthir. That, of course, wouldn't account for agelessness, though. That would require the Fifth Heightening. But if he did have that much Breath, it would produce a highly visible aura of enhanced color. This is what makes me wonder if he is Returned, because then he would naturally be of the Fifth Heightening, accounting for his agelessness and perfect pitch. It would also mean that he could suppress his divine Breath and appear to be a normal human without a visible aura.
  22. I was looking around at different forums, and I noticed something. Hoid. It seems the widely accepted theory is that Hoid is a good guy, because he's against Odium. What if he's NOT a good guy? In WoR, He said that he had an objective, and was willing to watch the world burn to achieve it, right? WHAT IF HOID shattered Adonalsium? It would explain why he says that the 17th Shard is hunting him in The Letter. It would certainly create a good plot twist. It would also explain why Brandon is trying to keep him mysterious. What if Brandon wants to write an entire book from a bad guy's point of view? It would seem like a good idea to keep it for last. I'm wondering if, in Dragonsteel, we find out that Hoid is actually WORSE THAN ODIUM!? Let the feedback begin! Edit: Hoid is probably not worse than Odium, but the point still stands.
  23. In The Way of Kings (or is it Words of Radiance?), Hoid says he began life as an idea (paraphrased) to Dalinar. It doesn't seem like he is human. He probably could've used compound gold/atium for his large amount of life, but isn't there a WOB that says he's using Lerasium in a way we wouldn't expect? That would mean that he wouldn't be a Mistborn. He was there for the Shattering. He was offered a Shard. He began life as an idea. He was once named after a rock. Any ideas? Feel free to shoot down.
  24. When Hoid is telling the story of Fleet, Kaladin thought that another hand joined Hoid's to help him play the music, but he didn't want to open his eyes to find out. Do you think Hoid Awakened something to help him? It's possible that he awakened his coat or something and made it play music. That would be a really complicated command, but someone with Hoid's mental capabilities shouldn't have too much trouble using it. Thoughts? Yay, nay?
  25. Hey guys, don't know if this thread has already been done but i wanted to make a new Topic all about the Easter eggs in each of the Cosmere books. I've been doing a great reread of all the Cosmere books and thought it would be a good idea to have them easily accessible for everybody, So if you find a Easter Egg please feel free to post
