  1. To TLDR i've decided to write a short story set during era 2 with the main character being a constable who is a A-Bronze F-Chromium metalborn, I understand that F-Chromium is barely understood but how i've written it is that his metalminds give him a gut feeling for things (Like the begining where hes brougth in a no-metalborn on charges for a crime clearly done by a metalborn as his gut tells him to) But as I looked around i couldn't find any good names, nor think of any, for this twinborn combo or a synergy if there was one
  2. Long time reader and lurker; joining the party.
  3. Ive seen the numerals in the wikis section on glyphs, but I dont understand them well. Is there a standard for what the numbers beyond 10 look like?
  4. In the Lait page of Shallan's sketchbook, at the top there's faded women's script. Images: Has this already been decoded? I can't find anything on the coppermind. If not I'm ready to do so myself
  5. Hey guys, me and a friend are making a Stormlight archives python game. For the sake of simplicity we are only doing Windrunners and Lightweavers, I was assigned as to take care of the lightweaver side of things, and I need help thinking of what to do for the first mission, while you are a squire. I need an idea for who they will infiltrate, it can't be something to hard but something that is relatively safe, and isn't super risky. Any ideas are helpful, please and thank you! (This is what I have so far) if order_choose == '2' : health = '100' power = '25' weapon = '0' sphere = '100%' defence = '0' stealth = '75' print("You have now been made a squire under the lightweavers") sleep (2) print("welcome to the Lightweavers!") sleep (2) print("You are now a lightweaver, and your first mission is tonight") (this is only half of the code, the lightweaver side, without the beginning stuff
  6. I just finished watching Mr. Sanderson's 2020 class lectures. He mentioned the Storymakers guild and decided to look it up. I am interested in attending, however, on the website certain things are out of date. I've messaged (a week ago) and got no response. Anyone have connections with this organization and can tell me what's up? If I don't pounce on this my brain will space until just 3 days after a deadline or something (it happens). Thanks!
  7. I am trying to post a theory to the Cosmere discussion board and im being prohibited because it contains links. After seeing that message I removed the links and put them on a separate document and yet I still get the message. How do i resolve this?
  8. I'm having an issue with figuring out one of my magic systems. There will be music in the back of someone's head constantly, based off their emotions. If the person lets the music into their head the magic happens. Like for anger maybe things could explode or light on fire or the person could summon fire. If the person spends too long in the music they will either go mad or turn into monsters of the music they were sucked into, constantly listening to the music and causing the magic. I've come up with two lists for possible emotions. I'm not sure if these are the complete lists I want or if I should go shorter. If you have any suggestions for which emotions I should use and/or for what magic comes from the emotions it would be awesome. Edit: - Each person with the magic would have different ways of expressing the magic. It is based off personalities as well as their tendencies. If a person is prone to anger (a hothead) and roars or abuses when they get mad, their anger magic will be firey. If the person is cold and shoots insults or whatever, their anger magic will be cold and icey. - The music in the distance of every human's head will be called the dons and it will be described as being heard in the distance until the person lets it in. The music will be in tune to the individual's strongest emotion. The dons can be completely let in or just barely let to leak in. I will be making an updated list for the emotions I will likely use and maybe what elements or magic the emotions can cause. (The emotions need to be able to be connected to music.) The music will only be attached to major emotions (unless I am convinced or decide otherwise).
  9. So I recently finished White Sand prose version and the ending mentioned that Kenton was goign to go visit Khriss. I couldn’t find a sequel so I turnd to the graphic novles and went straight to teh end of Volume III, which has the same ending as the prose one and doesn’t continue it. I noticed a lot of differences between the graphic noels and prose as well, so a few questions: 1. Is there something that continues those events? 2. Do I have to read the graphic novels - are there any differences that are importnat? 3. Is White Sand non-canon, then? Thanks!
  10. my sister just finished reading the climax (part 5) of oathbringer and called it “ok” and “passable” and said shes “read better”. PASSABLE!?!?!? >:O
  11. Basically what it says in the title. I like to see all the new posts, but I haven't read the sample chapters, and don't want to be spoiled.
  12. Is there something like [ color = ][ / color ], but for text size? Our computer broke recently, and for some reason turning my tablet sideways doesn't work. Edit: I got the computer working again. I'd stiil like to know how to do this though, as I am on mobile most of the time.
  13. Hello I am a middle school/high school science teacher and I am piloting a “classroom game.” Basically, I turned my classroom into an RPG. Students create avatars and level them up via experience points earned through completing assignments (I call them quests). The kids were intrigued at first, but now they are invested (ba dum dum). I have only had two assignments not turned in so far, and the kids stayed after school so they could complete the quest for partial exp. But this is a pilot program and the classes that I created are pretty generic and bland. I worry that the students will grow tired of them. I was hoping the 17th shard could help me come up with some new cosmere inspired classes and abilities. I also wondered if someone can tell me how to ask Brandon Sanderson if this is ok? I am not selling this idea or anything, but I don’t want to just take his stories and ideas. Important note: I do want the kids to be able to exploit this system. They already can, but they have not figured it out yet. Classes: Warrior: - block: can block incoming damage 10 times per marking period. (Can be upgrade three times) -Moralizing shout: can scream self encouragement to gain bonus “HP.” - Ultimate block (upgrades block): can block damage to yourself and one ally (upgradable). Can only block identical damage (same question). Healer: - Heal: can heal 1 entire attack (question: single points or multipoint) 5 times a marking period (upgradable). - Resurrect: can raise any assignment from the dead and reattempt it for full credit. New grade replaces the old grade once a marking period (upgradable). - ultimate heal (upgrades heal): can heal 1 entire attack for yourself and an ally (upgradable). Assassin: - backstab: can assassinate a question, removing it from the assignment. Can be used to remove multipoint questions, but it messes with the scaling of the grading and exp is lost by killing the question. Can be done 8 times a marking period (upgradable) - stealth: can use stealth ability to hide from unexpected dangers (questions in class) 5 times a marking period (upgradable) - ultimate stealth: upgrades stealth to allow students to sneak in late assignments for no penalty at all (stupid teacher meme). One assignment per marking period (upgradable).
  14. Hello Sharders! I am looking for 1 or more good artists to make some cool hoid art for me to use as as my digital persona. Would prefer to pay in ETH or USDC. 15. So, for the yearbook at my school, all seniors need to submit a quote. I am not creative enough to come up with something inspiring/comical on my own, and I don't want to be cliche, so I decided to do a Sanderson quote. The only problem is there are so many good ones that I can't decide. I would greatly appreciate it if you all could submit your favorite Sanderson quote, preferably funny/inspiring. (I am leaning more toward funny, but if there is an inspiring one that is really awesome I will use that.) Thanks!
  16. This probably has been talked about before, sorry. BioChromatic Breath, I think, clearly utilizes the Cosmere mechanic of Identity. Your Breaths can be retrieved only by yourself. In other words, those Breaths are "keyed" to someone. Through certain words and intent, they can be keyed to other people (aka giving Breaths away). If you die without giving away any of your Breaths, I theorize that they become unkeyed and therefore rejoin Endowment's pool of Investiture to be essentially recycled. I think I'm on the right track with this, right? My question/theory/hypothetical is with storing Identity. Let's just say that some random Feruchemist named Sazed is storing Identity. Some girl named Vivenna with an amount of Breaths places a hand on his shoulder and says, "My life to yours my breath become yours." Her Breaths, which were keyed to her, would try and be keyed to Sazed. But Sazed has no Identity, so I think that they'd become unkeyed and just dissipate. Is this a reasonable assumption? Similarly, let's say Sazed wasn't storing Identity and received the Breaths. He invests a clock, he retrieves the breath. So far, so good. Now... he stores Identity. Does all Breath he holds become unkeyed and dissipate? Or, wait... would he still hold the Breath but not be able to use it?? Now I'm confused. Now if this Sazed invests a clock with most/all his Breaths, then stores all Identity, does all the Breath dissipate or simply cannot be retrieved? And, hypothetically, if some random dude called—I don't know, Kelsier—ran Sazed the Awakener through with a sword, with no Identity-shenanigans, but he had invested the clock... would the Breaths be trapped in the clock, unable to be used, or would they dissipate? As you can see, I am confused. Discuss, please?
  17. QF52: Dancing in the Mists Jastes, Tensions in Luthadel are running high. The Ventures - don’t tell Elend I said this - seem to be close to breaking apart, the Tekiels were nearly slaughtered, and at least four different nobles have been exposed as Mistborn. One, Shan Elariel, was found dead at Keep Venture, seemingly killed by one of the Ventures' own Mistborn - however, rumors have already begun to spread that it was a setup like the one that took down the Tekiels. One by my House Hasting. Whether that’s true, I have no idea. But I do know that House Elariel wants revenge, and this gives them someone to lash out at. They attacked a caravan of ours, almost out in the open. And to make matters worse, Keep Hasting is hosting this month's ball. We had to bar any Elariel from entering, because… well, I don’t want to say in writing. You never know. But we don’t have enough intel to keep everyone friendly with the Elariels out, and we can't just postpone the ball. It would make us look too weak. Hopefully nothing goes wrong. -Telden Hasting Welcome to QF52: Dancing in the Mists! You've been invited to host the grand ball of Keep Hasting, to kick back, relax, and finalize those pesky alliances that have been so brittle lately. However, beware! Due to recent events, any members or affiliates of House Elariel are barred from the premises, and if found, they will be assumed to be conducting espionage and be thrown out of the keep*. Because, well, they will be conducting espionage. Or worse. So it is your duty as the Hosts of the party to keep an eye out for any suspicious activity and report it to the proper channels. However, we nobles can hardly act in the open - you must be discrete. Inform Lord Hasting quietly. *Floor level may vary. The Hasting Hosts form the Village faction, and must live to eliminate all of the Elariel Eliminators to win the game. The execution has a 2-vote minimum, and ties will result in all players tied dying. The Elariel Eliminators (sorry) form the Eliminator faction, and must reach parity with the Hasting Hosts to win the game. They have a faction doc and a kill every cycle. (If all players are dead by the end of a cycle, it also counts as an Eliminator win.) 0 to 0 is still parity. This game has a simple mechanism: anonymous voting. All votes must be cast through the GM PM, and the vote count (including who voted for who and who didn't vote) and execution-ee will be revealed in the writeup in the next cycle. Any vote, whether Green, Red, or Black, posted in the thread will not be counted, but can be used as an indicator of intentions - but are you sure they're really telling the truth? In addition, during the first cycle, each player may choose one other player. They will then gain a PM with that player for the rest of the game (made by the GM) starting the next cycle. Other than that, PMs are closed. (If two players select each other for PMs, then neither gets to repick.) Other than that, no secrets, no roles, just good old fashioned intrigue. Signups will end on Thursday, April 15th at 12:00 1:00 PM PST, which will be the standard rollover time unless someone yells at me to change the time back. Since I've got pinch hitters... there will be an inactivity filter of 2 cycles. You must post at least once during that time, or you will be replaced by a pinch hitter or killed. Also, @Lotus will be the co-GM and @Araris Valerian will be the IM! What? No, of course this isn't a mechanism for Ash not to spend time making vote counts and watching the thread. Why would you think that? Player List: Spectators/Pinch Hitters: Quicklinks:
  18. Brandon said that it would be availible on this forum, but where?
  19. *not sure if this is the right place for this* I'm working on a Minecraft language pack where I can edit literally any text in the game to literally anything else. I have just confirmed I am able to do this, and I'm going to set out to change a bunch of the Minecraft text to be cosmere-y. Parrots will be chickens, experience will be Investiture, zombies and/or skeletons could be Lifeless... and that's mostly all I have. I wanted to open this up to you guys on what would be cool to change in a cosmere language pack! I want to change many of the names in the game. I don't want it to feel like regular Minecraft with a few cosmere names thrown in. So I'll need a lot of ideas!
  20. I've been seeing this around pretty often, usually with nicrosil and duralumin... but what does it MEAN? Thanks in advance xD
  21. So I'm getting a tattoo of the expanded glyphs that are stamped into the front of the hardcover Stormlight books. Because of this I've paid a lot of attention to them and I've noticed that the Windrunner/ Jezrien glyph look a lot like a helmet. I am looking for help identifying what the other symbols could be. Please offer any help you can? We only have eight of the ten so far
  22. So, I cross referenced the metal category page with the Steel Alphabet page and its sources, and the numbers are incorrect. It looks like it was just never updated properly when era 2 came out. It all seems right except the numbers. It placed atium as nine and malatium as ten, like is shown in the era one diagrams, and after that it just counts up by one with all the others. So the physical, mental, and enhancement quadrants have the right numbers, but nearly everything else is mistaken. I would have edited it myself, but I clicked the edit button and it was code. I have no idea how that works. It looks like it's actually just calling a file that's stored somewhere else, so I'm not even sure I can change the numbers from there. I switched around the order a bit, so now cadmium and bendalloy are between bronze and gold, with atium and malatium after duralumin, but all that did was move the rows around so it fit the era 2 diagram better. I didn't figure out how to actually change any of the information in it. I already begged for help on the discussion page, (I still don't know if I did something wrong in the process) but it's only just now occurred to me that it might be a better idea to put it here. Hopefully someone who knows more will be able to fix it.
  23. I was recently trying to update my signature. But when I clicked save it said "signature spans too many lines." I tried shortening it, but it still didn't work. Are you not allowed to click enter on your signature? I've been able to do it before, but every time I change my signature I seem to be able to click enter less, and less.
  24. This has been a project of mine that I have been working on for the past few weeks. These systems were originally made as a Cosmere Fan-Fiction with some of the remaining shards I made up, but as I fleshed out the systems I wanted to write some story of my own. I will take all feedback anyone has to give. There are three different types of magic users Cantors, Guardians, and Phlebotomist. The first two types are Based on sound and have cultures rooted in Norse and Athenians respectively. Phlebotomists are based in a nation close to the Persian Empire. Cantors Guardians Phlebotomists The world is not at all fleshed out, might make another post on it. If anyone has any ideas, don’t be afraid to tell me!
  25. So, Brandon confirmed that the TV show for SA is now on stage 3 (finding a studio). Who would you like to see in the show?? I think Avan Jogia looks like Kaladin (or Luke Pasqualino) oh and Marlon Teixeira For Shallan I'd go with Karen Gillan, Jane Levy or Sophia Lillis (she's 17 like Shallan) I can't think of anyone for Adolin, it's soooo complicated. william devaughn stumpf for Szeth Jeff Bridges for Odium What do you think?? who would you like to be Adolin, Dalinar, Syl and the others?
