  1. The thread I made on balancing Allomantic iron and steel for a D&D Mistborn homebrew went really, really well- thank you so much @Tamriel Wolfsbaine, @Lunamor, @KelsierFortnite, @Returned, and @Duxredux! I really appreciate the ideas and commentary and would love more if you're willing! I've now got a system for these two metals that I think is quite good, and I can't wait to post it once I've gotten the rest of my second draft polished up and finished! However, there are two more powers that are really bothering me. I just can't figure out how to handle Allomantic gold and Feruchemical zinc. Gold is just plain weird; you see a hallucination that is either a vision of how you could have turned out had you made different choices or a past version of yourself. I. . . honestly am kind of stumped on how to use it effectively. Very minor tES spoilers. And F-zinc. . . that's a tough one too. Feruchemical steel has the movement speed bonus, the AC bonus, and the extra actions to be made, and I don't want zinc just to be an inferior version of it. I also don't really see zinc adding a direct attack or damage bonus (especially since F-pewter kind of does that already too), and tin is mostly used for extra perception and awareness, so that's off the table as well. Would anyone who's willing please offer suggestions for how I may form these powers for a 3.5 D&D game?
  2. The effects of using Allomantic gold have been described as being "emotionally stressful" and can be quite jarring to the Auger. My question is, does this emotional stress cause cracks in the Spiritweb at all? After all, those that are mentally unstable are able to have Shards and Cognitive Shadows communicate with them, so would an Auger who used their powers on occasion be susceptible to this?
  3. As said in the title, this cult will have potential Cosmerogical spoilers, most likely pertaining to Mistborn (but could be from other books or series as well). As the Emperor of Health, I shall order upon our soon-to-grow numbers that we use spoiler boxes for non-Mistborn material, in order to be friendly with newcomers, or only reference it vaguely enough to not spoil important plotlines. I shall thank the Overlord of Senses, @Koloss17, for giving me the inspiration and idea to craft this community. On that note, I shall establish an alliance, potentially temporarily, with all members of the Cult of Senses. Come in, relax, and embrace sickness and Health. Currently, I have no opinion on any other Feruchemical, Allomantic, or Hemalurgical Cult. However, as long as you don't cause trouble and make us waste the valuable Health in our ever-expansive Goldminds, we don't care (yes, you may spy on us). On that note, let me dive into the reason this cult exists. As Emperor of Health, it is my duty to provide all with reasons to join this wonderful Cult- and the first and foremost is survivability. Health is a valuable thing to any living creature's life, no matter where it is from. Animals of the lowest intelligence to entities of the highest all respect and value the Health of themselves and others. From disease to plagues, from scratches to dismemberment, we can heal all. Our Goldminds may be pricey, but people's lives, as stated by one powerful war general, are priceless. It is a great bargain to be able to buy one's life back with only gold. Indeed, it is surprising the amount of power a simple earring, bracelet, or wristband will hold. You may stay weak for a week, in order to recover from a lost limb. You may gain a cold or sore throat, in order to shrug off a nasty gash. Even greater, you may stay weak and frail for maybe even a year- in order to heal back the wounds from a Hemalurgical attack or other Spiritual damage. Indeed, even the power of a (Stormlight / Warbreaker) Any damage at all, we shall stay strong as you store and recover in order to embrace true Health. There are a few rules to being a member of the Cult of Health, but do not fret, they are not many. First and foremost, we seek not violence. Of course, we will also not tolerate any sort of harmful language towards one another, as even Cognitive damage we'd like to heal. On that note, we will not allow any religious insults, and we seek not to replace any person's religion, as the Cult of Health has no true religion. We wish for all members of our Cult of Health, and even members outside of it, to stay as healthy as possible- Physically, Cognitively, and Spiritually with some leeway for those who are storing. Speaking of, our second rule: We care for the injured, sick, or otherwise unwell. Whatever plagues one's body, mind, or soul, we seek to heal and care for. Whether it is a simple cold that is ruining your day, or a sore throat making you feel unwell, we will sympathize as you heal. Whether it is a stressful day at your place of work or a bad argument with a close friend, we will give advice and help you relax. Or maybe a moral dispute, threatening your very worldview, has you panicked and confused? Be not afraid, we are here for comfort and Health. Third, as the Overlord of Senses mentioned, we seek to improve all from a state of Unhealth, but in order to do that, many of us will seek Unhealth to prepare and embrace it. Health cannot be understood without Unhealth, and Unhealth cannot be feared without Health. We must experience both in order to truly be a part of the Cult. Even if you only experienced it years ago, you still know that state of Unhealth- and that proves a valuable resource, as it lets you be truly grateful for our Health. Overall, we seek not to waste the Health of any individual. We spread comfort to all members, and the only thing we frown upon is those who willingly hurt others, in any way. As the Emperor of Health, though, I also promote forgiveness- if a member were to accidentally harm another or an outsider, a simple apology should set everything right. I am very new to leading a Cult, and am afraid I may not be the greatest leader- so any additional rules you'd like to add, whether relating to our capabilities or our mindset in relation to others shall be accepted. I seek to grow this group into a wonderful community, but even if I stand alone, I will be happy promoting health. Please do not think of my words as offensive if they offended you, and instead, give advice for improvement.
  4. We know that certain things in the cosmere can be accomplished by several magic systems (such as A-Electrum and aviars both allowing you to see your immediate future), and I think there may be a way to soul forge without using stamps. First, you need to be a A-Gold and F-Aluminum twinborn. Then when you burn gold, it's said to be a very disorienting experience because you not only see your alternate lives but you even think their thoughts. It might be a bit of a stretch to some, but to me, it sounds like, for a moment, you are your alternate lives. This means that you can theoretically store your identity while burning gold. You might need a different metal mind for each identity, kind of like you do for tin, but that's an easy problem to solve. Then if you're ever in a situation where you need the skills or abilities of your alternate life, you can tap that memory and essentially use an essence mark on yourself to access that skill. It's not quite the same as an essence mark because none of your physical attribute change, but it's fairly close, in my opinion. It's also limited to only two alternates, but it's probably easier to do than create an essence mark. So what do you guys think? Could this combo work? Also, to make the power less niche do you think storing your identity would grant access to different alternate lives? This would add to the skills this person could draw on, but I'm not sure if it would work that way. Or would storing identity do other weird things to your gold shadows?
  5. So, I have been roleplaying a gold savant over in the Alleyverse forums (which if you like roleplaying and haven’t checked out, you totally should look at!), and I had to fudge some things. We have really only had two instances of A-gold in the books, and information on what exactly goes on is very conflicted (see the differences in the Ars Arcanum wording and the Coppermind wording). So, that got me thinking: how does A-gold work? Now, we have very little to go off of. But, let’s start with the basics. Gold is a temporal metal that shows you two alternate versions of yourself when burning it. Past that, it gets weird. These alternate selves don’t seem to be able to interact with you in any meaningful way, and don’t really exist. Now, you can sort of interact with them, as we saw with Vin reaching out to touch her gold shadow. Now, she also seemed to be controlling the shadows, in a way. Here’s a section from the book (chapter 27 for any of you keeping track): So there’s something weird there. The user also thinks through both thoughts, and intrinsically knows them. They can’t seem to communicate, but maybe they can see each other, given the whole touching thing that goes on in book one. It is very unclear. They also seem to no longer have their physical self anymore, as both of the instances seem to refer to splitting into two and being two people, not three. Do I have any idea how that would work if you are burning it for more that 15 seconds? Nope! But that’s what we have to work with Now that we sorta kinda get how the shadows manifest, let’s talk about the shadows themselves. In the two instances we see them, the shadows appear to be alternative present selves, like if you were to essence stamp yourself. Now, here’s where things get inconsistent. The Ars Arcanum seems to suggest that you see your, and I quote, “past selves or alternate present selves” which, given the wording, seems to imply that you can either see an alternate present self or an unaltered past self. But given that that would be really rusting weird, let’s just say you can access alternate selves. Whether or not they can be younger than you are is kind of unclear (I seem to be repeating myself quite a bit). So what of these alternate selves? Could they be anything? Theoretically, but with the stuff we have seen, they seem to be opposites of each other in some way, and seem to be very relevant to the moment. Vin saw a noble and a thief, Miles saw a vanisher and a lawman. Now, both of these people were very inexperienced with gold, so I’m sure you can stretch the capability of your shadows past just differences in currently relevant occupations. So, now that we’re sort of on the same page about what A-gold does, let’s unravel it a bit. Specifically, I will be looking at this from a lens of Intent, Identity, and Fortune, the three weirdest mechanics in the Cosmere. Starting with Intent. Could you be conscously aware of what shadows want to summon, or where they manifest positionally to you? Would you have the ability to move the shadows independently of yourself, or have three or one self (either just you physically present and seeing out of your own eyes or your two gold shadows and you) present? I would say with savanthood, anything is possible, but to what degree could a normal Augur that isn’t ashamed of their very existence pull that off? I don’t know. On to Identity. I think this is probably more relevant than Intent, as who you are affects what your shadows could be. If you are sure of who you are, the shadows would likely be less variable than if you feel that you are the way you are now due to pure happenstance. To take that a step further, let’s put F-Aluminum into the mix. What happens when an augur stores identity? Personally, I think it would increase the variability of the shadows. Maybe one of them wasn’t even born an Augur! Now what would happen if they have access to an unsealed identitymind? Well, then they could increase their identity. What would that do to the shadows? If storing increases variability, tapping would decrease variability. Eventually, maybe gold shadows wouldn’t even appear! The possibilities are interesting for sure. Now on to the last one: Fortune. Why do I bring this up? This is all about the past. Well, in a way, it’s about the future. The gold shadows seem to show people what they need to see, but what if you burn it for more than 15 seconds? What if you shadow up a fighter because you will be getting into a fight? This is certainly an interesting question. Personally, I think it is certainly plausible. Gold is really weird, and who chooses the shadows certainly isn’t the one burning the metal. Well, what are you folks thoughts? Is there more potential with being an Augur than just getting nausea on command? Could you manipulate this realmic power to your own desires?
  6. The more I think about it, the more I realize Cosmere healing and kandras are a match made in heaven. The former can be shaped to at least some extent by how one perceives themself. The latter are far more inclined than any human to think of helpful objects as their body and store the results. They even call their artificial bones True Bodies. And that makes them very useful with the right setup Take Gold compounding, for instance. Spike a kandra with those abilities, then give them a True Body made of gold. Once they get used to it, they can then duplicate any material used in that True Body. On Scadrial, they could generate infinite Allomantic metals, even the rare ones. If they had Mistborn powers on top of that, then infinite duralumin. After all, they don’t get hurt because of healing and can easily replenish with duralumin time bubble. On top of that, a Kandra Fullborn is probably the most powerful non-Shard entity in the Cosmere. Such a being could have all of their Feruchemical attributes up to x100 forever, including whatever other magic systems they find. On top of that, it should also be possible to duplicate Invested objects. Even a human could theoretically do that. HazelCharm47 Let's say we have a hypothetical situation with Miles Hundredlives. In this scenario, he is wearing a gold metalmind filled to the brim with stored healing power. He is then spiked with a cadmium spike and loses his gold allomancy. Now, if I recall from various WoBs, he would be able to heal using the gold metalmind and regain his gold allomancy. I could be misremembering and he cannot heal it, but I believe he would be able to since it is part of his Identity. However, one question I have never seen the answer to is this: what happens to the ability in the spike? Is the allomantic ability still contained in the spike, leading to a duplicate? Or is the spike's ability lost? Or maybe I have this whole thing wrong and Miles could never have regained the ability in the first place. If the ability duplicates (which I doubt), that could lead to some crazy things. Also, this applies to any Twinborn with gold Feruchemy, I just thought Miles was a good example I guess Brandon Sanderson I'd like to see the exact WoB's here to make sure I'm being consistent, as I don't know that I confirmed you could regain lost powers--only that you could heal from hemalurgic soul damage. Most likely, what you'd end up with is a person who has been healed and can remove the spike from their body without damage, and without needing it to hold their soul together--but who has lost the ability in the spike. Regardless, though, what you want here (the mass production of spikes charged and even blanked) is possible with the right levels of investiture. It's an energy, like things in our world. The difficulty is finding out how to 1) get enough investiture and 2) key it to the right people and/or magic. Hope that's a little more clear. That said, a lot of times people just ask me if something is possible--and a lot of things are possible, but just very difficult. And with the right boost of investiture, in the right circumstances, it WOULD be possible to regrow lost (to spikes) powers. It's just highly unlikely. I'm not sure if the questions people are asking me are ones I've qualified, or not, in these instances. Also, this is all something I'm playing with still behind the scenes as we enter the modern age of Mistborn. HazelCharm47 As requested, here are the WoBs I believe are related. They might be obsolete, however. And I assume things will get changed a lot before Era 4, but hey, it's fun to ask anyways WoB #1: https://wob.coppermind.net/events/331/#e9434 This one states that as long as Miles still has his Identity, he would be able to use his Feruchemical metalminds after being spiked and would be able to heal. WoB #2: https://wob.coppermind.net/events/102/#e983 This one says that Miles would be able to heal his soul using Feruchemical healing and regain his gold Allomancy (assuming he survives the spiking). I think this is the most essential one! WoB #3: https://wob.coppermind.net/events/76/#e6335 This one is only somewhat related - implies that the Feruchemical and Allomantic powers are spiritually part of him. WoB #4: https://wob.coppermind.net/events/7/#e6435 Also tangentially related - damage to the soul from Hemalurgy can be healed (Although this might just be a Hoid thing). I guess the question could be expanded to include non-Feruchemical healing as a way to repair the soul after being spiked. Brandon Sanderson Well, I don't think any of those are specifically inaccurate. I just didn't quite understand what people were trying to get out of me. A lot of times, I don't know quite what people are trying to get out of me. I can see now they're trying to figure out. I see now, and I appreciate you putting this all together for me so I can see what the fans are trying to figure out. So the answer is a cautious yes. The problem here is that he'd need to compound a TON of healing first--but yes, it would work. You could theoretically turn someone like Miles into an invested spike factory. If he didn't have enough healing stored, though, he'd end up with a healed soul but a gap (like a scar on his soul) where his spiked-out abilities were. That could theoretically be healed with application of more investiture, depending on things like how he views himself, and if you could get the right type of investiture. General Reddit 2020 (Nov. 6, 2020) What makes kandra even better for this purpose is that a Gold compounding kandra wouldn’t need to worry about running out of gold to fuel these stunts and would be more likely to see those objects as part of themselves anyway. Then, the possibilites are basically endless. You could duplicate Hemalurgic spikes, Awakened objects, fabrials, white sand, Shardblades, the list goes on. As long as a Shard doesn’t take issue with this (and assuming Preservation can be tricked into making other Investiture.), you can do nearly anything, even accounting for the fact that you would quickly hit a limit with Invested objects. It would take some setting up, but the results are truly amazing. Edit: To clarify, we have reason to believe from the WoB about Miles that Compounding could duplicate Metallic Arts invested objects, but it may not do the same for other Investiture. Nevertheless, respawning metalminds and spikes is still useful
  7. At the end, Wayne takes a little of each metal along with the Lerastrium. He already is a gold feruchemist. Is there a specific reason he couldn't have stored a bit of health in the gold he swallowed, then burned it, compounding the effect to save himself from the blast? I know it was a huge blast and that would have only been a little gold, but compounding is crazy powerful. Don't get me wrong. I loved this book, especially Wayne's character arc at the end. Fantastic! My question is simply, could he have saved himself? Did he simply "not think about it" and Harmony didn't give it to him as a possibility because he wanted to keep Lerastrium a secret?
  8. So, let's say you have a gold compounder, who is healed by either an Edgedancer or a Truthwatcher. Would it maybe be possible to absorb tonnes of Stormlight, use it to heal someone, and then have them store that healing in a Goldmind at just the right moment? This would then allow them to burn the Goldmind at any point (granting them an extra boost which I expect would make the healing greater than it originally would have been if just taken directly from the Stormlight), so the healing would be stored away safely for later use (as opposed to it slowly fading away in the form of Stormlight). As Stormlight is easily accesible (at least if you are on Roshar) and the healing power gained from the Surge of Progression seems to be great, at least compared to just Feruchemical gold, this could be an interesting way of easily storing lots of healing, or maybe other Feruchemical attributes too. For example, what if you could Lash yourself through the air at great speeds and then stop yourself by storing that speed in a Steelmind? The basic idea is just to combine the large raw power of the Surges with Feruchemy, which directs and controls power well. In my mind this works a little to well, so I might just have made it all up. I can see some things that might get in the way (at least with healing). For example, i don't think Radiants can heal somebody who don't percieve themselves as injured or sick. Could you bypass this by changing their/your Perception somehow? Another problem could be that Surges don't count as attributes you can store, because they aren't seen as belonging to you but to the Stormlight itself? Also, I didn't really do my research before writing this. It's likely all wild speculation, so please tell me what you think about combining Surgebinding and Feruchemy.
  9. Miles was extremely cocky and didn't even worry about his henchmen stabbing him in the back. Which, makes sense at first glance since he could regenerate from practically anything. Except, of course, from any aluminum that happened to be logged in his body. Like the bullets his henchmen had. ALUMINUM BULLETS THAT COULD HAVE KILLED HIM. It seems like a pretty glaring oversight to me that someone as clever and experienced as his would have overlooked this. Did I miss something?
  10. Is Feruchemical gold healing superior to Surgebinding healing, since feruchemical healing leaves the person feeling rejuvenated and refreshed, and stormlight leaves the person feeling tired? If a gold Ferring were to become a knight radiant, could they tap small portions of a goldmind to counteract the exhaustion they would feel after healing via stormlight?
  11. Will having someone tap a goldmind after recently granting that person a hemalurgic spike containing a human attribute cause the transformation to be slowed, stopped while tapping, or speed up the transformation? How much will perception matter in this case, since hemalurgy changes their spiritual aspect?
  12. Why wouldn't the Set have its high up members be gold compounders? Is there something about hemelergy that interferes with the strength of compounding? Are they trying to limit the strength of their members? Why wouldn't Wax's uncle have gone double gold and made himself near invincible? I get that they would have to find blood makers and gold mistings (both rare), but i feel like if you were going to go through the process of this, you would want to make it count. On that same vain if thought, if not gold, wouldn't they want to compound a different one? Steel compounding sounds quite powerful in that you both get to become a coinshot and essentially become The Flash. I guess my question boils down to this; is there something that prohibits compounding metals through hemelergy (prohibiting an OP army), is it that they don't have the allomancers/ferucamists handy to pick and choose powers, or is the Set/Trell simply trying to limit their powers? I don't know if this is RAFO or if we have the info on this. Any thoughts?

Look at it shine, must be worth a lot
  14. If you got a boon and a bane from the nightwatcher, (let’s say your boon was good luck for a year, and your bane was seeing upside-down for the rest of your life) and then you burned Aluminum, would that get rid of the boon/bane? Aluminum sorta ‘cleanses’ all investiture from the person’s soul/spiritweb right? Would it depend on the type of boon/bane? What about compounding gold, gold healing tries to restore you to your spiritual ideal right? Would that remove them? Could either one of these remove a bane but keep a boon? If you perceived the good luck as apart of you, but still saw the upside-down vision as some outside handicap affecting you, and then compounded gold, what would happen? I’ve checked the arcanum and couldn’t find anything that mentioned aluminum and the Nightwatcher together.
  15. Hello All I was wondering what would happen if let's say I was a twinborn from Pewter allomancy and gold feruchemey. Would I be able to burn Pewter to increase my strength and then use that strength to fill my gold metal minds? Pretty much cheating and using the health granted to me by pewter instead of my own health to fill my gold metal minds. Essentially gaining all the benefits that a gold compounder would get but better in some ways as I do not have to burn any gold doing this. Though filling my metal minds would take longer. Or is that not possible at all and I cannot draw on the power of pewter to fill my metal mind and doing this will just draw on my own power to fill the mind which means I'll still be weak physically while the minds are filling though maybe not as weak as usual since I'm burning pewter but overall my feruchemy is still net-zero and I won't be able to be immortal or fill extreme amounts of health using pewter. I've listened to graphic audiobooks for all Mistborn main series and side stories so don't worry about spoilers. Sorry if the formatting of tags and the title is off, I'm new here and plan to be active way more once I finish the rest of the cosmere stories (only Emperor's soul, white sand and Arcanum stories left). It's just this question was left on my mind.
  16. Okay so I knew that Wax had a resonance (his steel bubble) but I this WOB stated that Wayne also had a resonance. My question came from this WOB. Any ideas on what it might be?
  17. So quite simply, my question is would a gold compounder be able to survive having their central nervous system severed by a shardblade? We know that gold healing is fundamentally the same as all healing in the cosmere, and so if stormlight can heal a shardblade wound then so can gold feruchemy. But we also know that gold compounders can heal from basically any wound as long as they have access to their metalminds. So would they be able to heal from a normally mortal wound from a shardblade? Or is that a special exception?
  18. Hey all I’m new in the forums and I had a few questions. I was listening to The Final Empire again and a thought came to my head when Sazed is explaining to Vin that he is a Eunuch. In The alloy of law Wayne makes a statement about having fingers blown off and having to grow them back. Now with Sazed being a feruchemist he has the same healing ability as Wayne so if Wayne is able to grow back body parts ie. fingers in this case. Shouldn’t Sazed be able to grow back his male genitalia? Is there something I’m missing that makes it so he cannot.
  19. Hi, I've been rereading Alloy of Law and it has made me think: I hace been looking through past posts and WoB but there is just so much there! So please feel free to redirect me if this is answered elsewhere. We know a bloodmaker can choose the rate at which they heal, but can they choose which wounds to heal? If they had a broken leg and a shallow cut could they choose to just heal the leg, or would both heal at the same rate? What if they had a broken arm and a broken leg - could they differentiate between two injuries of the same type? Any thoughts?
  20. What would happen if you flared gold? Or atium? I am asking for a friend. He also asked what would happen if you flared copper, so I told him that it would just extend the coppercloud. Any thoughts, insoght, anything?
  21. This is a minor theory. At his death, Miles gives what sounds like a death rattle. I propose that this has nothing directly related to Moelach or the influence of a shard. Rather at the moment of his death he was burning not only feruchemically charged gold, but uncharged gold as well. (Maybe he instinctively drained a gold metal mind instead of burning it, then inadvertently burned it for gold allomatic effect.) I think that looking into the spiritual realm by allomatically burning gold at the moment of death would be enough to trigger a death rattle.
  22. If Shallan was an augur and burned Gold, would she see possible pasts for herself, Radiant, and Veil?
  23. Vin instinctively burning metals is a known fact. She was burning Tin and Pewter without even knowing when she tried to scam March. In my third read of the book, I notice a small passage, in chapter 24 right after the spook slang joke: Vin felt…contented. As she sipped at her wine, she caught sight of the open doorway leading into the darkened workshop. She imagined, just for a moment, that she could see a figure out in the shadows—a frightened wisp of a girl, untrusting, suspicious. The girl’s hair was ragged and short, and she wore a simple, untucked dirty shirt and a pair of brown trousers. Not only vin could see her other self but she also was able to know what she was thinking. It feel more like burning gold to me that just imagination. It made me wonder if vin did instinctively burn some unknown metals (her that era) like Bendalloy or Cadmium. This is my first post and English is my third language, I am sorry in advance if I made any mistakes.
  24. Okay this isn't really a theory, it's simple logic: A gold misting would make an excellent soulforger due to the fact that they have the allomantic ability to see their possible other pasts. Thus, reforging their soul would be a simple process of writing down what they saw in their gold shadow. Of course, it would take a few tries to get the "right" possible past for each essence mark, but that doesn't change the fact that it would work. It would also take a lot of effort to learn the art of forgery, but I think being an augur-forger would be worth it (partially because it's so damnation awesome). Thoughts?
  25. The first time Vin burned Allomantic Gold, she claimed she "felt" a possible alternate Vin. Kelsier made it seem that she must be mistaken. Given all the manipulations by Ruin and the grand plan put in motion by Preservation ages ago. Did she truly feel herself?
