  1. Anyone want to play or discuss the aforementioned game?
  2. This is similar to things like "The 100,000th post wins," except not. I will post somewhere in the forums the number 1. Whoever finds it first will comment on this and share the link where they found it. Then, they will post a number 2 (as a numeral) somewhere in the forums, and so on. Of course, you should always abide by the rules of the website and the topic you are in. You can place it inside of an actual post, but remember to put it in italics. E.g., Once upon a time, there was 1 big donut hole; I have 5 brothers. Let's see how high we get! Here comes the cliché line: Let the games begin! Edit: This post does not count.
  3. First off, I'm not one of the rabid TLOU2 haters. I think that Abby's storyline was actually a pretty gutsy move on the behalf of the developers, and in many other games she would have been the unambiguous protagonist. It was a good look at moral perspective. It was pretty well established that Joel had a dark past, and it isn't hard to believe someone might be coming after him for revenge. That being said, I think the game had an enormous flaw in that it tries to guilt trip you for moral choices you have no control over. Many of the named characters Ellie kills are killed in cutscenes and often out of self defense. Even the ordinary gameplay is very much kill-or-be-killed. The game was saying 'tsk tsk tsk, violence and killing are wrong, now don't you feel terrible'. Meanwhile, I was just sitting there thinking 'sure, I'll remember that the next time I actually get a choice'. Granted, I may just not be skilled enough to avoid violence, and when I feel like putting myself through the bleak story again I might do a New Game+ and see if I can stealth or run past enemies. The Dishonored series is a much better example of how this could have worked. TLOU2 and Dishonored both deal with taking revenge against a group of conspirators, and you hunt them down one by one. Dishonored lets you take down these targets lethally or non-lethally, and the same applies to the random npcs you see. In Dishonored, the more people you kill the darker the game gets, with characters cursing you as a murderer and trying that much harder to catch you. We could have had the WLF getting more and more ferocious as they are being killed, or had Infected be drawn to the dead (we see Runners eating corpses in the first game). It also would have been a sucker punch to get to know the people on Abby's side after having made a conscious choice to kill them. It already was to an extent, but it would have hit much harder if we hadn't been railroaded into it. I feel the choice of whether or not to kill would have gotten the message of non-violence a lot better than the heavily linear story TLOU2 gave us. I haven't played a huge amount of other Naughty Dog games, but if Uncharted and TLOU can be taken as their general style then it seem like they are definitely a 'this is our story, player agency be damned' type of game studio.
  4. Hi, Sharders! So, ever since the Knight Radiants Order Quiz came out and we got to know a little bit more about the specific traits related to each order I've been compulsivelly trying to sort every one of my favorite charachters from books, movies, TV series, anime or mangas, games and so on.... But it turns out I'm in quite a pickle in a couple of chases, cause I'm just can decide wich order fits them best. That's when I said to myself "Hey everybody in the 17th seems to be pretty good at super-annalizing this kind of subject, let's ask them" So I would like this to be a thread where anybody could propose a charachter ( any charachter from any format of entertainment) and everybody who knows about the charachter here on the Shard ( we all seem to have pretty good taste, after all we all love BS) can go ahead and say wich order they think would be a better fit and why? To start, I'll just propose a fantasy classic I think most people know Harry Potter, so I'll ask for him, Hermione and Ron; but if you are a fan feel free to speculate on any of the charachters. And to get more in topic I'll bring up ASoIaF, wich is sort of a personal favorite. Is anybody there even KR material?, maybe the Starks( Jon, Arya, Sansa.. Ned is definitively the embodyment of honor)
  5. What type of card games could be modified or invented to have a cosmere theme? (I was thinking a magic the gathering type game)
  6. So I was going through this forum and instantly ran out of stuff to do. As you can imagine, I was a little ticked off, so I decided to make a thing. Hopefully it doesn't go to crap in an instant. It's like a lot of those stories; the one's where someone posts a sentence, and then the next person posts the next sentence, and so on. Everyone's played it before. "The Longest Thread (Misadventures)" is probably the best example of this. I decided to go a little niche, however, and we're confined to two main characters as of right now. These two characters-- the Knight Radiant and the Mistborn-- are dueling each other for the sixteen shards they've managed to capture and enslave. Our job is to narrate what tactics and attacks they use against the other. Here're the rules: 1. You must remain within the general rules of the Sanderson's series's. The Mistborn can run out of metals, the Radiant can run out of stormlight, and neither of them can summon black holes by snapping the spirit web and burn out the cosmere. Y'know, basic stuff like that. 2. You can only narrate one character at a time. When you narrate that character, you can give them 1 action and 1 bit of dialogue. For example: "The Mistborn burns tin. 'Prepare to die, Radiant!'" If the Mistborn burns atium, though, then the next person to post something must say what the Mistborn sees. 3. No killing the Radiant or the Mistborn! If someone breaks this rule and kills one off, then do yourself a solid and bring them back to life with a free action. 4. If you want to have another character from another series join the fray (they have to be from the cosmere, and can't be any character in particular; just an embodiment of the magic system, like a ReForger, but not Shai), then notify me. 5. We're assuming the Mistborn begins with all their metals, and the Radiant can do basically any surge and is full on stormlight. 6. Ping me if you have any questions or would like to suggest a rule change. I'll start, breaking my own rules and narrating them both: The Mistborn burns tin. "Prepare to die, Radiant." The Radiant casts a half lashing and levitates. "The only one dying here is you."
  7. Hey fellow Sanderson fans, I want to collect magic the gathering cards for a Cosmere themed cube. Does anyone know of any cards that remind them of the Cosmere or that are connected to Brandon in some way? For example, Davriel, Rogue Shadowmage would be an include for this list because Brandon created his character, and Shadowmage Infiltrator is included because the mage looks like he is wearing a mistcloak. If you all could let me know of anything remotely related to the cosmere it would be great! I'd even like to see a few custom cards, though mainly I'm looking for real ones.
  8. I guess some of you have noticed this comment on Reddit ("mistborn" is Brandon's account, for those who don't know). I'm really excited about this for obvious reasons - CDPR really does make the best game adaptations of books, so such a collaboration would definitely yield some incredible masterpiece we can barely imagine. But Brandon has not sold/given them the rights yet, and also CDPR may be a bit reluctant about this now (because of the whole Sapkowski story). So I guess all gamers here should team up and use any possible method to convince, encourage, or coerce both Brandon and CDPR to make this real, even if we had to wait ten years. I think if we gather enough people to support this cause, we can get them to seriously think about it! I am kinda new to organizing this king of thing, so if anybody knows a good method to gather signatures/votes etc., feel free to take the lead! For Honor, Harmony, and the future of fantasy!
  9. Want sure if this should go in here or general. Anyway what you do here is take a quote from a movie or tv show and Cosmere it. 1. It has to be said by some one so who in the Cosmere would say it. 2. Try and change the existing quote in some way. 3. If you can also put the Cosmere name for the movie. "Why is the wine gone? Why is the wine alwase gone?" -Dalinar (Pirates of the Reshi isle: curse of the black light) "Nivani?" "What?" "Where is my shard plate?" "What" "Where, is, my, shard plate? "I uh, put it away." "Where?" "Why do you need to know?" "I need it!" "Nah uh, don't you think about going off doing no daring do. We've been playing this wedding for two months!" "Alithkar's in danger!" "My wedding is in danger! "You tell me where my plate is woman! We're talking about the greater good!" "Greater good? I am your to be wife! I amthe greatest good you're ever gana get!" -Dalinar and Navani kholin (The impendabes)
  10. Not sure quite where to post this, and not sure quite which site admins to tag, so I’m just going to go ahead and post it here and tag @Chaos, @firstRainbowRose, @Argent, and @WeiryWriter and trust that if I made a mistake that someone will fix it and/or point me in the right direction. Anyway, I’ve noticed that in the past several months there has been a signficant increase in the number of forum games being played on this site, particularly in the general thread. Aside from the games that have their own forums and sub-forums (like Sanderson Elimination and the various RPGs), There are games such as (in no particular order) Guess that Cosmere Character, Guess that Cosmere place, Cosmere Codenames, the Nightwatcher boon/bane game, the Awakening game, Cosmere Character Roast (Rap) Battles, Um... Actually (a game), The Elimination Game, Hurt and Heal Cosmere Edition, and probably more that I’ve missed because I haven’t perused the correct section of the forums lately. With that in mind, would it be worthwhile to create a separate forum or perhaps a Subforum in the General section dedicated specifically to forum games? What does everyone think? (I’m particularly curious what the admins think).
  11. So, I'm not sure what work has gone into this before, but I think it would be really cool if we as a community of fans, made a table-top game for the Stormlight Archive. It could be like D&D, it could be cards, involve dice, etc. But if there is already considerable work done, could someone please point me there? I tried a quick search of the site, and didn't find anything. Otherwise, This could be the place to bring together ideas and make something!
  12. Hey everyone, I just started playing Hearthstone a few days ago, so I only have a few cards, and I'm not very good. Are there any Sharders on here who also play Hearthstone and are at that same kind of level that would like to play a few games?
  13. Hello, my brother and I are building Luthadel in minecraft (as title suggests) and I need help. It's a large project and I would like some help. Depending on the amount of people that want to help we'll get a server or something. The scale is a one pixel to one block ratio. At the time of posting I've started on the copper gate and market district. It's being build in minecraft version 1.12.1 with the docucraft high texture pack. Give me some feed back on what you think.
  14. So I am a sometimes theorist and poster on here, but because of work and social commitments don't get to post as much as I like....HOWEVER, I am a regular Clash Royale player and my last clan leader went MIA, so we just started a new clan. Clan Tag #8JVYVPJC if you play Clash Royale, like to drink a couple Scotch/Whiskeys, talk some Trash and nerd out about Sanderson!
  15. So I just finished the Witcher 3 (Wild Hunt, Heart of Stone, and Blood and Wine). It was fantastic. Yes, it was pretty, the gameplay was fun/etc., but what made it so good was the characters (and story, and plot, but mostly the people). They are absolutely brilliant. The story just gave me so many feels for these brilliantly real characters (spoiler alert) So anyway, I fully intend to dive into the books the games are based off of; because even if the translated prose doesn't work for me, I suspect the characters will still click. Am I right to think so? Are they as good as I hope they'll be?
  16. If you don't know what agar.io is, type it into your web browser address. The reason I bring it up is because on one session, I saw a player named Galladon. Another time, I saw a player named Dominion. Either Sharders pick Sandernames for Agar.io, or we discuss other cameos we've seen.
  17. So, I've noticed several members have RPG game results in their signatures. Some of them sound pretty fun. I checked out the Forums → Community → Role-Playing boards, but it was not at all clear how someone would go about finding a game to join that wasn't already in progress. Anyone have any tips for how to get started? Thanks!
  18. Okay. Fairly simple rules. You post an encrypted code, the next person decrypts it, posts a new encrypted code (different message, different encryption) and the next person decrypts it, and so on. E.g. (the first code is just a letter-number conversion. The second one, though I didn't post the answer, uses something called leet speak.) You get the picture. So here's the first one. xlwvh ziv ufm.
  19. By "old-timey game" I mean old games like Majora's Mask, Ocarina of Time, Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire, and older games like that. For me, It'd probably be 3rd generation Pokemon games. In addition, I recently got some GameBoy games for the Virtual Console on the 3DS (Golf, Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages). They're some pretty cool stuff.
