  1. This is a game where you say what you would do if you were a Mistborn/Misting/Feruchemist in real life! I would be a pewterarm and do awesome stuff with my strength like win races, run to places instead of driving, and type really fast!
  2. Hello friends of the 17th Shard! Next year I'm starting a game design course. One of my projects I plan to do is to create some type of game set in the world of Warbreaker. What I want from you guys are ideas! What do you think should be included in a game where you play an Awakener? I'm looking mainly for gameplay mechanics that are fun and make sense in the Warbreaker world. These are just a few ideas I've had so far, feel free to tell me how stupid I'm being with some of them. ---Third person camera My vision of this right now is that the combat will involve fast motion (jumping around with Awakened clothing and ropes) and the third person camera allows for much better control and awareness in games with this style, in my opinion. ---Combat system a blend of the Witcher combat system and the Assassin's creed combat system. The Assassin's creed combat system is really cinematic, but it mainly feels like you're just pressing a couple buttons and it isn't very interactive. The Witcher system is very interactive, and when meshed with the cinematic nature of the Assassin's Creed system could end up looking and feeling very impressive. ---Parkour system My idea for the game right now has it set open-world in the city of T'Telir. The player would navigate the city with a parkour system similar to the Assassin's Creed freerunning system, with some minor Awakening abilities to help along the way. ---Hemalurgy, because why not. This is one of my more random ideas. The player can perform a complicated finisher move on opponents to steal their Breath with a Hemalurgic spike and transfer it to themselves. I'm trying to find a way to make this work in the world, but I may scrap it. It gives the player incentive to use different tactics when defeating enemies. It could also figure into the heath-regen system somehow (health regenerates passively over time, but when you steal Breath from someone you gain an increase in your health-regen, temporarily, something like that). What do you think? Give me questions, comments, oh-gosh-what-are-you-doings, and other concerns please. (P.S. Would you like to destroy some evil today?)

  4. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/stlhood/storium-the-online-storytelling-game This game is really cool. It's basically an RP site with a few game-y elements to drive the plot somewhat. It gives somewhat more of a flavor of tabletop gaming, yet still has the depth of creativity of an online RP. You pledge 10 bucks to get into the beta immediately. I just got into it and I'm really considering pledging more (it's got great rewards) since it's just got so much potential. Wanted to get the word out here before the kickstarter ends. Go check it out!
  5. Ok. I got Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons during the steam sale and it is one of the best games I have ever played. It is one of the very precious few games that truly combines the story and the gameplay mechanics. There is no dissonance between them. The game is only 2.5-3 hours long so you can easily play it in one session and that will be by far the best experience. Brothers is a brilliantly designed, extremely emotional game and if you play games at all I highly highly recommend you play it. (Yes, as emotional as a Brandon book ) You do need a controller to play it, there are keyboard mechanics but using a keyboard would cripple the experience. It is available on xbl and psn and through steam, if you have a controller for your pc then steam is a good bet as it is currently half price (7.49USD) for the duration of the holiday sale. There isn't too much more to say, don't watch a let's play, you won't get the proper experience that way. But please, if you possibly can, play this game.
  6. Yup, it's another "Does anyone else play this?" thread. Does anyone else here play Firefall? For anyone who hasn't heard of it but might be interested: Firefall is a very ambitious free to play open world mmo which uses real shooter mechanics. None of the click and watch your character attack stuff =) It has a number of unique concepts which they have implemented to varying degrees (it's in open beta currently). The crafting system is one of the best I have ever seen and the loot drop is also very different to most mmo's. In a normal mmo/rpg you get random items as loot, most of which are completely useless to you. In Firefall the largest part of loot and quest rewards are resources and other crafting components so as a general statement what you get will actually useful regardless of your "class". Speaking of "classes", firefall doesn't use a normal class system. Instead you have different battleframes that you can equip and upgrade separately and that you can switch between at battleframe stations. No need to create a new character to play as a different "class". The game is set in a post-apocalyptic world where most of Earth is covered by a strange substance known as the melding, going into the melding will kill you very rapidly. The last humans on Earth are desperately trying to hold onto a small portion of Brazil where the engines from the Arclight (a giant ship that crashed there) hold back the melding. Despite it's post-apocalyptic setting firefall doesn't use the dull browns and greys you expect from such a setting, instead they have used the changes to earth through the story to create a very unique, vibrant and colourful world. One of the most ambitious things about firefall is the chosen warfront. The chosen are a race of, well, common belief is that the ones we see are changed humans. Regardless of what they actually *are* they are trying to wipe out humanity. The humans have watchtowers set up across the map and the chosen can attack these, and will take them over if no players move in to stop them. If the chosen take control of a watchtower they will spawn more chosen there, and the players lose the information from that section of the map, they can still see the terrain but all the extra information is gone. Players can, naturally, take back these watchtowers. The chosen also occasionally launch large scale invasions of major cities. When this happens a warning about the upcoming invasion is broadcast across the shard and the invasion begins 10 minutes after that. Basically the players have to try to hold off the chosen forces until the military can train the Arclight's guns on the attacking forces. If the players fail they lose the city and the melding moves in and covers the whole area, blocking it off from players. After a period of time the melding gets pushed back again and players can attempt to retake the city. There are plans for the players to be able to push back the melding to temporarily or permanently reveal new areas though this is one aspect that is very much a work in progress. There are some places where players can temporarily push back the melding to gain access to an area, but the larger promise of unlocking whole new areas through these mechanics is yet to be fulfilled. Hrm, that went on longer than I expected. Anyway, if that sounds interesting at all I recommend checking it out. To anyone who does play and wants to add me my username is ClaincyFfnord. Edit: If you want a better explanation of the game and what it is trying to do than I gave, I suggest watching extra credits series on it, first video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SpBiNHPfjKw
  7. Well that's what I think. It's to complicated for a Mobile game and let's face it it just wouldn't be nearly as cool on a computer or console. So why not a board game? Well I created rules for a incredibly fast paced high stress rts style board game where all you need is a friend, pens and paper or a dry erase board if you want. Check it out and give me suggestions keep in mind I created this with two friends in 1 day so I am looking for anything that will make the game better. Www.rithmatistthegame.webs.com/for-those-who-have I currently only have a guide out for people who have read the book but I am working on a more in depth one for those who have not.
