  2. This thread are for the non-theory theories. This is for your ideas that seem awesome (at least to you), but don't have a real chance of actually happening. You don't have to have any evidence for these, just, wouldn't it be awesome if so and so happened. For example: I was thinking about the missing Radiant spren, and I invented a few. My favorites are Mindspren for the Willshapers, and Soulspren for Stonewards. Mindspren are shaped like floating cubes that change shape depending on the emotion they are feeling (A pyramid for anger, an orb for happiness, etc.) Soulspren on the other hand, are shape more like humans with long flowing clothes. They are covered in fire similar to Human Torch, but more regal looking. Imagine a dilemma where you can either save 100 people you've never met, or the closest person in the world to you. Mindspren would argue for saving the 100 people because 100>1, whereas Soulspren would argue for saving the one person because that person means more to you. Anyways, just write your random ideas. Quick note: There are a lot of amazing people here who could argue down to the smallest detail. I love that, that is the purpose of this site. However, that is not the purpose of this thread. Please don't criticize anyones' ideas. This is supposed to be fun.
  3. Any old ideas you want post? Here are some of mine: A religion that is based around organs, A organization called "The Brotherhood of the Wandering Light" who worship a God that is said to be dead/lost and are on a quest to kill all who defy their God and return the God to it's former glory, A magic system based around potential energy, and (in the "Brotherhood of the Wandering Light" universe) a magic system where a person's body slowly turns to the element of magic they use (Ice magician's body would turn to ice.) that is controlled by the god that The Brotherhood of The Wandering Light worships (the god is partially insane).
  4. Now hear me out, this actually makes sense. Also Spoiler Alert!!!!! This will have lots of spoilers for the three Dragon Age games. They are great games so play them and come back when you are done please! Okay, so let me get into this. I was playing Dragon Age Inquisition and I started noticing some things. Maybe its all the Sanderson books I've been reading lately but I couldn't help seeing the similarities. the more I played, the more I thought they are similar. But toward the end of the game, I realized that the similarities are strong enough that I wouldn't be surprised to see Hoid showing up in Skyhold to impart some wisdom upon the inquisitor and tell tales with Varric. Dragon Age is a fantasy series, sometimes called "dark fantasy" but the world is vibrant and super enjoyable. The world has Humans, Elves who used to be immortal but are now second class citizens, Dwarves, and Qunari who are grey skinned people with horns. Now I could go on forever but I wanna get right to the meat of things. First of all, the nature of the world is strongly influenced by the interaction between the physical world and the Fade. the Fade is a place where people's minds go when they dream. It's a place shaped by the thoughts and emotions of the dreamers, and has spirits who represent a aspect or emotion of humanity (anger, sloth, wisdom, justice, ect) I think that there are a lot of parallels to the Fade and the Cognitive Realm. In the Fade, it is an unstable version of the real world that has different rules, but is tied to the world. The beings who live in the Fade embody a pure ideal, and can grant strength to men who uphold their ideal. However they cannot go against their nature without becoming corrupted. Now this is reminiscent of the Spren of Roshar, except that the spirits of the Fade don't just break, but they become the negative version of their ideal and become hostile and powerful. Imagine if the pain spren could enter the world and start causing pain to keep themselves alive. But the similarities are apparent. The next thing I noticed that was very Cosmere-ish was magic. Instead of just learning spells, the castor needs to access the power that flows from the Fade, and the ability to use magic is a genetic ability. There is also a way to enhance magic power with fresh blood, using the life force of a person to fuel magic. This is reminiscent of Bloodscealing or Hemalergy. The idea that living energy can be used to enhance abilities feels like it fits with the workings of the Cosmere. They also can use magic to trap spirits and use them by creating a bond, but this is dangerous because the spirits are forced to change their nature. Sometimes however, a person exhibits a specific trait or need so powerfully that a spirit that resonates with another person can forma bond with that person, often saving them and granting them powers. There is even an example of a man who bonds with a spirit of Justice, but as the man changes from seeking justice to vengeance, he starts to slowly destroy the spirit that bonded to him to help him. Once again, similar to spren in execution, but different enough. And Finally the biggest thing that made me want to make this post, there was a shard pool in the game! Toward the end of Dragon Age Inquisition, there is an ancient eleven temple that you are racing your enemies to reach before they do. They seek a power hidden in the Temple called the Well of Sorrows. The guardians of the temple are ancient elves from the old times who sleep until someone tries to invade the temple. When you make it to the Well, you find that it is a pool of smoky water that belongs to an old mythical being called Mythal. This being was a God that was worshiped who apparently still lives as a silent force. When your character steps into the pool you absorb the liquid and take it into yourself. your mind expands and fills with knowledge and power, the power you need to defeat your nemesis. As I watched how it was animated, I couldn't help but think about a shard pool. (If you want to see the Well of Sorrows Scene here is the link to a video of it.) Anyway, just thought I'd post this. I'll be surprised if very many people know what I'm talking about. It was just a fun Idea to imagine this as just another part of the wonderful Cosmere. Hope you liked this and I look forward to posting more random thoughts in the days to come! Also if you like "Letters from the Cosmere" I will be releasing a new one very soon!
  5. This is just for fun. Have any of you ever thought of new allomantic or feruchemical abilities that you think would be fun/interesting/cool? Here is a thread to share them. Here are some that I have come up with. Allomancy: Sense metals and pull heat away from metals, cooling them (possibly transferring heat to yourself) Sense metals and push heat into metals, heating them (possibly transferring heat from yourself) Sense metals and pull light into metals, darkening them or making them perfectly black Sense metals and push light into them, brightening them or making them shine light Sense metals and weaken them, making them easier to deform or fracture Sense metals and strengthen them, making them harder to deform or fracture Sense metals and disintegrate them, turning them into the mists (which would probably quickly evaporate if it was daytime or inside) Sense metals and grow them from the mists (requires the mists and a seed of the desired metal) Push on the life force within living beings, making it more difficult for them to heal or grow Pull on the life force within living beings, causing them to heal or grow more vigorously (great for trying to grow crops when ash is always falling from the sky) Feruchemy: Store creativity Store morality or conscience (knowing what is right and wrong) Store wisdom (storing lots makes you insane, tapping lots of it lets you instantly figure out the best course of action for your goals) Store emotions Store fertility or virility (depending on whether you are female or male) Looking forward to seeing your ideas!
  6. QF12: The Time of Reckoning there's You live in California. Or you used to. Nowadays it's called Persepolis, named by the Epic who's ruled here since Calamity rose. All things considered, he isn't the worst. Public infrastructure is mostly gone, sure, but killing is frowned upon. A few months later, you woke up with powers yourself. You've pleased Perseus, and have made your way into his service. Perseus has need of all of you, but you would do well to remember: you are replaceable. Every day, Perseus chooses the worst among you, those who have contributed the least, and kills them. Personally. Every day there is a reminder that no one is untouchable. Even Epics. Even you. always You come from somewhere else. You've seen what the Epics do. And you've sworn to execute any who break the law. By a strange coincidence, that is almost all of them. For what they have done, for what they do, for what they will do, there will be a reckoning. And you are bringing it. another Alignments role Roles If you don't contribute in Perseus' Court, you don't live. Any player who does not post in the thread, the GM PM, or another PM in 2 full cycles will be killed by him mercilessly. Notes: The only means of PMs is Telepathy. No other PMs are allowed. The write-up will include all kill attempts. Only dead players will be named in the write-up. There may be hints in write-ups, but it is not a good idea to read too much into wording. The number of Telepathy PMs will change depending on how many people sign up. It will be edited into the rules once the game starts. Order of Actions: 1. Perseus' Kill 2. Passive Powers 3. Transmogrification 4. Illusions 5. Votes Counted and Lynch 6. Forcefields 7. Matter Disruption and Reckoner Kill 8. Invisibililty Quick Links:
  7. As we all now know, Connection plays a huge role in the Cognitive/spiritual realm. For example, Kelsier relates to spook more than vin and sazed since they are both "survivors" and are more alike. So looked at as similar. So a small fun theory/question: Who else in the cosmere series would be well connected? This is just a what if scenario. A pondering and character comparisons. Not realistic obviously. Some theories I had were: 1) Raoden and Kenton: Both went against their fathers, both went on to try to fix their predicament with holy determination. Raoden Elantris and Kenton the Diem. They are both smart intuitive and witty. Both secretive. Etc etc. 2) Shallan and Khriss: Both are lusting for knowledge. Both are inquisitive and annoying and ask question all the time while making witty remarks the whole time to hide their lonelyness. Both are very noble to find that their rank doesnt hold the same weight in other places. Shallan is also a mix of Lightsong with the witty and offensive remarks and Sarene with her butting into your buisness attitude. etc 3) Kaladin and Vasher: Both blunt loners whos best friend is nonhuman with a mind, like a spren or awakened sword. You even see them like each other in their encounters. They both get their lives more difficult when a woman enters their lives. Both great fighters. etc 4) Sarene is like Jasnah (with a small pinch of Siri): Both can fight and are learned and a take charge attitude. While like Siri, she plays a more feminine role sometimes to play the part and is a princess in another land to unite lands to make peace and ends up having to save it to save her own land. etc 5) Vivenna and Marasi: Both are very womanlike and shy in public and modest. Both doubt themselves to an extreme level but secretly love danger. Both are clever and get captured more often than daphne in scooby doo. etc (Vivenna is also a little like vin. Plus have the same letters) 6) Dalinar and Wax: Both are very moral and would do stupid things in the name of moralism. Both are fighters and feel that they are in the lead and that every bad occurrence is their fault.etc 7) Galladon and Baon: Both are sidekicks, part of the 17th shard and pessimistic. Two peas in a pod. Both have "aon" in their name. Baon is also like Adolin, who also has "aon" in his name.etc 8) Wayne and Lightsong: Both make no sense and mess with people with humor. Comic reliefs. etc 9) Elend and Sazed: Both are warriors and philosophers. etc 10) Hoid: Well just imagine Shallan as a guy, thats Hoid. There are many other comparisons you could make for characters but these just jump to mind. This is just a ranting theory about which characters are most similar. Any other characters come to mind about connection?
  8. Just like you know you are a Sanderfan when....... You know you spend too much time on the Shard when you try to upvote others in emails.
  9. The purpose of this thread is for people to suggest ideas for Allomantic powers that are not mentioned in the books, and for others to analyze these "fake"/"new" Allomantic powers. Who knows? Maybe some of the powers you'll come up with have actually been planned for future books (e.g. as the Allomantic power of an atium alloy or some other god metal). That would be pretty neat, wouldn't it? I know that @EdroGrimshell has a similar thread, which is pretty interesting, but I intend this one to be much smaller in scope since it's only for Allomancy. Also, there are rules: The powers must fit within the Allomantic categories of Internal/External and Pulling/Pushing. Feel free to ignore the four quadrants (Physical, Mental, Enhancement, Temporal) and create your own "quadrant". You may simply comment on other people's ideas if you don't want to share your own. Otherwise you need to suggest at least two powers, a Pulling power and its Pushing counterpart. Don't suggest more than four powers in a single post. You may suggest more after another person has had his chance. Feel free to talk about the Twinborn possibilities of the your new Allomantic powers, but you can only use the 16 base Feruchemical powers and Feruchemical atium. No fake Feruchemy, please. Try to be available to answer people's questions about the powers. I'll post my first contribution later. Have fun! Update: Here are the entries we have so far: Voidus Skaa Thunder_93 (1st, 2nd) SirTraconus 50Metals Stormgate Thermophile ChickenPlague (1st, 2nd) Xel-Hassodin (lots of cool ideas from an RPG wiki; h/t to MistLord)
  10. Welcome to the Highway! For those who have finally managed to crawl through all those alleys, let me tell that there is only one rule on the highway. DON'T ASK ME HOW STORMING BRIGHT IT IS!! Members of the Highway: Customs Official and Founder - Young Bard
  11. Kobold's Creation Daily thread is quite impressive, given its simple starting point. I find myself interested in a similar, but tangential matter. As a storyteller, one needs to research a large range of topics to maintain a high quality suspension of disbelief. And researching by oneself gets dull. And sometimes you have a hard time figuring out where to start. So I am starting SIRI, named for a character who did historical research by asking a storyteller in some novel or another that you may have read , and nothing to do with a oddly named piece of smartphone software . Feel free to share the cool things you've been researching, or questions that you're still trying to answer, or what ever you like. Then have some fun with the research process by chatting with other people about their subjects-of-interest. Kicking things off, after concocting a magic power that had some interesting limitations, I thought that said magic would be interesting to use in gem cutting and other jewelry making. Turns out that faceting a gem by hand in a dark ages milieu is a tricky business, since "by hand" still involves grinding wheels and possibly a stabilizing mechanism to avoid spoiling the project with a finger fumble. Chisels hardly come in after the first steps of splitting along fault lines.
  12. I'm not sure whether this should go in the Creator's Corner or Role-Playing, as I haven't got firmly established rules yet, but I'll just roll with it anyway. Basically, this is like a regular RP, with one twist. The entire thing is being told in memes. They can be whatever memes you like, even *shudder* MLP memes, and I really have no idea what else to say. I'm not going to bog this down with rules, as I don't want to destroy the spirit of the project. So, I'll start with 3 base rules, and I can add more if necessary. The 3 Laws of The Young Bard (a.k.a. The Rules): Now to the fun part. The worldbuilding and actual in-world goodies. Here's everything I've planned out so far. Absolutely nothing. Is that all clear? Let's go! Other paraphernalia:
  13. Okay. Fairly simple rules. You post an encrypted code, the next person decrypts it, posts a new encrypted code (different message, different encryption) and the next person decrypts it, and so on. E.g. (the first code is just a letter-number conversion. The second one, though I didn't post the answer, uses something called leet speak.) You get the picture. So here's the first one. xlwvh ziv ufm.
  14. So, I've mentioned in a couple other places around the forums that I'm writing a couple of myths for two of my classes, Astronomy and Mythology. Aside from really really really hoping I get a good grade, I have decided to post them here, in all of their unedited glory for you to read. The first one, for Astronomy: The second, for Mythology: Comments? Criticism? Cupcakes? Tell me what I did right, what I did wrong, and which one was your favorite. Cheers!
  15. The title says it all. No one is off limits. Go to it. Here's one from Kobold King: And one from the inimitable Arthur Dent: Enjoy!
  16. This is because of someone remarking on the necessity of epigraphs in one of the critiques they did of one of my submissions. They pointed out that epigraphs might not be as necessary for the progression of storylines as we may think and it's an overused style here on the forum. I know for my novel I'm working on, it's a way for me to introduce information to the readers that would be awkward for me to otherwise, but for a lot of people it's different. Why do you use epigraphs? Why should you use epigraphs? Those are questions I want answers to when y'all get to it. Can you take epigraphs out of the story and have it still make sense without a whole ton of explaining? That's a question you should ask yourself before putting one in.
  17. What would Hoid do if he had his own Shard? My personal theory is that he would create his own magic system based off of himself, called Scourgebinding. Instead of bonding with spren to gain powers, Scourgebinding involves bonding with articles of clothing. Thus, the Tights Radiant were born. (Hoid can be a very cruel person when he’s not trying to stop violent Shards.) Thievery: The Scourge of Skillful Kleptomania. Those with this scourge impulsively and expertly pickpocket anyone they meet. Bafflement: The Scourge of Utter Stupefaction. Those who use this scourge gain the ability to make all people nearby gawk at them in complete confusion. Annoyance: The Scourge of Obsessive Irritation. Those who have this scourge gain the ability to make all around them groan in pain, as they receive an eternal headache. Insanity: The Scourge of Incoherent Blather. Those with this scourge have the uncanny ability to cause others around them to back away in fear. Stalking: The Scourge of Alarming Pursuit. Those with this scourge become ultimate ninjas, capable of walking right behind people without being noticed, and instinctively knowing the location at which someone lives. Disguise: The Scourge of Surreptitious Sneakiness. Those who have earned this scourge have the ability to instantaneously grow any kind of mustache. Insufferable Conceit: The Scourge of Willful Snobbery. Those with this scourge have the ability to cause everyone they meet to instantly lose their respect for them. Insult: The Scourge of Offensive Heckling. Those with this scourge are granted the ability to break friendships, end relationships, and start battles in the most hilarious and ironic ways possible. Humor: The Scourge of Friendly Mocking. Those using this scourge can make all around them giggle stupidly, laugh obnoxiously, or chuckle incoherently. Wandering: The Scourge of Aimless Striding. Those with this scourge have the honorable ability to take the longest possible path to reach a destination, and to invariably get lost in the most straightforward places. First Ideal of the Tights Radiant: Novelty before Redundancy, Alias before truth, Goofiness before fashion. Windstunner: The Tights Radiant Order of Thievery and Bafflement. Windstunners were an order known for their underhanded methods of robbery. They would often act like total buffoons, attracting attention and causing complete confusion. Suddenly, they would strike down upon their foes, pickpocketing them and running away and laughing maniacally before their victims were able to come to their senses. The Windstunners also taught their own squires about the art of deceit. In truth, the Windstunners only recruited squires so that they could be pickpocketed. Windstunners are bonded to Beltspren. Second Ideal of the Windstunners: I will confound those who cannot confound themselves. Third Ideal of the Windstunners: I will confound even those I hate, so long as it is humorous. Sighbreaker: The Tights Radiant Order of Bafflement and Annoyance. The Sighbreakers were one of the most despicable orders of the Tights Radiant. They had numerous verbal spars with the Windstunners, because they believed that the Windstunners were using the Scourge of Thievery immoral. During these verbal battles, the Windstunners would often stealthily pickpocket the Sighbreakers. The Sighbreakers were named for the sighs of agony that come from anyone within audible range their Annoying drivel. Sighbreakers are bonded to Hatspren. Second Ideal of the Sighbreakers: I will put obnoxiousness before all else. Cussbringer: The Tights Radiant Order of Annoyance and Insanity. Cussbringers were a reckless order, often hanging at the edge of sanity (and cliffs). They were a particularly vicious order because of their combined use of the Scourge of Annoyance and Insanity. Whereas the Sighbreakers would eventually feel remorse for those they Annoyed, the Cussbringers were Insane; they would never shut up. The term “Cussbringers” was coined quickly, and the other orders, particularly those with the Scourge of Insult, would line up and systematically shout curses at unruly Cussbringers. Cussbringers are bonded with Sockspren. Hedgedancer: The Tights Radiant Order of Insanity and Stalking. The Hedgedancers were one of the most disconcerting orders, often found sneaking on top of hedges or atop roofs. As they had the Scourge of Stalking, they were impulsively compelled to follow and spy on those they felt were suspicious. Of the two orders with Scourge of Stalking, the Hedgedancers were by far the least sneaky and the clumsiest. They would try to attract as much attention to themselves as possible, but their Stalking ability also caused them to become impossible to see by those they were Stalking. Hedgedancers tended to find the highest places possible to Stalk their victims. Once they found their victim’s house, they would enter and their Insane Scourge would take over, forcing them to juggle fruits or stand on one foot or do other impractical things. The Hedgedancers are bonded to Glovespren. Second Ideal of the Hedgedancers: I will stalk those who think they have been forgotten. Truthstalker: The Tights Radiant Order of Stalking and Disguise. The Truthstalkers were the ultimate masters of ninja-ness. They could impersonate anyone and Stalk anyone they wished. The other orders used them as spies, informants, and pranksters. The Truthstalkers themselves wished to find out the truth behind human behavior. But after centuries of fruitless searching and Stalking, they realized that there are no truths behind human behavior; humans are completely irrational. Truthstalkers are bonded to Jacketspren. Fightweaver: The Tights Radiant Order of Disguise and Insufferable Conceit. The Fightweavers were a sly, conniving order who would spark fights and wars. With the Scourge of Disguise, they would imitate a random person nearby, and with the Scourge of Insufferable Conceit, they would provoke anger and jealousy into anyone who heard their words. Then, the Fightweaver would use Disguise to return to their normal self, and the mob would attack the person whom the Fightweaver was imitating. Due to their underhanded techniques, they were not well-liked by the other orders. The Fightweavers did not have any Ideals other than the First Ideal. Instead, their power grew as they started conflicts. Fightweavers are bonded with Scarfspren. Blame-Someone-Elsecaller: The Tights Radiant Order of Insufferable Conceit and Insult. The Blame-Someone-Elsecallers were known for accusing others for their crimes. They were the most provocative order of the Tights Radiant, shouting out Insults while simultaneously praising their own magnificence. The Blame-Someone-Elsecallers were often not successful in their attempts to blame others, so they hired Truthstalkers and Fightweavers to Disguise themselves as distractions. The Blame-Someone-Elsecallers are bonded to Vestspren. Witshaper: The Tights Radiant Order of Insult and Humor. The Witshapers were called the most holy of the orders, and they often had visions with the great and mighty Hoid. Through him, they learned the wittiest Insults and puns to torture their victims with. Speaking with a Witshaper was a great honor, as much as it was horrible and agonizing. The Witshapers instigated wars, baffled linguists, and tortured passers-by with their sleight of tongue. To keep up their reputation, they brought tall, foldable stools wherever they traveled. Once they reached a place they felt was important, they set down their stool and sat atop it, shouting down Insults at whomever was unfortunate enough to pass by. Witshapers are bonded to Cloakspren. Phonyward: The Tights Radiant Order of Humor and Wandering. The Phonywards were Wandering travelers who spread warmth and joy throughout the world. They used their Humor and made witty jokes to anyone they saw. They were constantly Wandering, and were a rather superfluous order since nobody could ever locate them unless they were not looking for them in the first place. The reason that the created such witty puns and Wandered constantly was that they were actually a very insecure order, and would search all their life for a place to fit in. They used their jokes and puns to cover up their insecurities, which is why they were known as the Phonywards. They are bonded to the reclusive Sandalspren. Bondbreaker The Tights Radiant Order of Wandering and Thievery. The Bondbreakers were an order of only three, because Hoid would never be so cruel to let more of them run rampant in the world. Actually, yes he would. But, in any event, there were only three Bondbreakers at any one time. It was up to the Bondbreakers to instigate rivalries and wars between the orders of the Tights Radiant. They Wandered about, finding other Tights Radiant members, and used Thievery to stealthily steal from them. The victims blamed the other orders, and wars broke out between orders. But the Bondbreakers’ work was never finished. Bondbreakers are bonded with Trouserspren. Second Ideal of the Bondbreakers: I will divide instead of unite. I will break men apart. …And meanwhile, Hoid will be sitting back in his Shardic castle, laughing at the foolish things the petty mortals attempt to do with this magic system.
  18. Sometime, in the distant future, some intelligent and lazy person in the Cosmere will invent the television. It has to happen. At some point. Maybe there's a fabrial for it (which is very likely; there's a fabrial for everything), or maybe it has to do with Southern Scadrial's magical machines of mayhem. At any rate, the question we should be asking is not if there will be televisions in the Cosmere, but what people will watch with them. So, without further ado, here's a trailer for a Rosharian Cooking Drama: (Cue Dramatic Voice) In a world, ravaged by storms, where death comes by the will of the wind... Five men will seek to gain glory with only their wits... and a spatula... The Horneater, born on the cliffs, his life dedicated to making food, and more importantly, eating it… The Shin, in a plant-filled kingdom, his only wish to convert his fellow chefs to veganism… The Alethi, punished for his past crime of making a new food with a perfectly symmetrical name, hoping to gain pardon for his insolence. The Herdazian, his arm lost in a tragic cooking accident, wishing to become the most popular of his cousins. And finally, the Parshman, his life sold to making fine food for others. Who will please the omnipotent god Odium? And who will die by the sword? Tune in next week for the first episode of… Scones Unhallowed! So, that's one Cosmere TV show. But what other shows could be developed?
  19. This thought just occurred to me a couple of minutes ago: What do people on Roshar do for fun? So far, we've seen storytelling, hunting whitespines, hunting chasmfiends, fishing, courting, formal dueling, informal dueling, plotting, scheming, fighting, drawing, drinking, eating, cooking, sleeping, reading, writing, dressing, and killing bridgemen appear as activities that people on Roshar do. However, not every country on Roshar will have as much of a combat-oriented culture as Alethkar, which creates a conspicuous lack of pastimes in places like Azir and Shinovar. Also, I haven't seen any sports (other than dueling and hunting) on Roshar. Do they have any varieties of football, American football, baseball, basketball, tennis, or any other sport? I really don't see why they wouldn't, especially in places that don't have such a glorified view of combat. What do you guys think? How do people on Roshar pass the time?
  20. Let's have some fun! There are 16 metals in Allomancy, and 16 shards. Atium replaced the temporals metals with itself (a temporal metal of greater effect), because Preservation felt it should do so. Ruin was notable for not being able to see into the future well at all, but Atium let people see the near future very clearly. Using these facts, let's extrapolate! Assumptions: Each Shard's metal would replace one existing metal The shardmetal's effect would be superior but of the same basic type to the one it replaced The effect of the shardmetal should be some weakness of the shard, not their strength Atium replaced Electrum in effect, but took the place of Bendalloy (External, Pushing) which is opposite in that quadrant. Hemalurgy is more of an external pushing magic than an internal pulling one, so that corresponds So, in that case.... Tanavium Would replace the Internal, Pulling, Physical metal; Tin Tanavium grants the user a sense of absolute presence sense within an area, and the expanded mental capacity to comprehend and sort it. When burning Tanavium, the user would have complete positional and sensory knowledge of all objects, people and animals within a concentric spherical zone, with the knowledge becoming less precise the further away from the Allomancer they are. Honor is great at making bonds (mental), good at fixing people (enhancement), and decent at seeing the future (temporal). So his weakness is physical. He tends to do things internally (Nahel Bonds) and he pulls (inhales and attracts) rather than pushes Aonium Would replace the External, Pushing, Mental metal; Brass Aonium allows the Allomancer to dampen all mental affiliations to other things and people, effectively forcing a person to be unable to think about those things. An Aonium user could create an extremely focused (devoted ) person by dampening all thoughts except on the subject desired. Or they could dampen a specific subject, such as yourself, making you effectively invisible to that person as it would become impossible for them to think about you. Aona is great at making regional magics (physical), good at making enhanced Elantrian people (enhancement), and unknown at seeing the future (temporal). But the Aons and other programming languages are the ones that require the most specific cognitive input from the user, so that is Aona's weakness. Aona works mostly externally (glowing things and extra mediums like soulstamps and permanent aon writings) and pushes (affects other things more than the user) Skaium Would replace the Internal, Pushing, Mental metal; Bronze Skaium allows the Allomancer to not only sense any nearby usages of investiture, but flare or dampen them as well as sense and distinguish them. Flaring would act similar to nicrosil, while dampening would act similar to chromium, but more controllable. While you could not control the type or effects of the investiture, this would allow you to prevent being attacked by other allomantic abilities from a distance, or to enhance them, though with a finer grained detail. The abilities would be thwarted by a coppercloud. The allomantic strength of the user would determine how far you could seek, and how much you could dampen/flare their abilities (which would also be function of distance as well). Skai is great at making regional magics (physical), good at making enhanced Bone monks (enhancement), and unknown at seeing the future (temporal). But the Bloodsealing and Dahkorness both create/require things of lower than average intelligence (skeletals, fanatics =P), so mental is again the weakness. Skai works mostly internally (using blood, making zombies and adding bone growths) and pushes (magics affects other things more than the user) Endowmenteel Would replace the Internal, Pushing, Physical metal; Pewter Endowmenteel when burnt grants the user enhanced strength, speed, durability, health, and the enhanced mental capacity to control it in the form of skill. While active, the user has enhanced physical attributes of all types, heals quickly, and has an instinctive knowledge of his physical capabilities, similar to Kaladin when he holds Stormlight. The stronger the strength of the allomancer, the greater these capabilities. Endowment is great at giving powers (enhancement), good at seeing the future (temporal), and okay at increasing mental capacity (mental). Awakening and breath both give relatively few physical advantages, so physical is the weakness. Endowment works mostly internally (Breath) and pushes (breath effects the outside world, and awakening imputes itself onto objects) Cultivatium Would replace the External, Pulling, Physical metal; Iron Cultivatium not only allows the user to pull any metal towards them, as if attracted by a magnet to their center of gravity, but any object. It obeys the same general rules as Iron, except metal is not required. The strength of the pull is related by how close to metal the substance is - metal pulls VERY easily, and much more strongly than Iron. Stone and other non-organics pull well, dead organics pull poorly, and live organics very poorly. Cultivation is great at seeing the future (temporal), good at granting boons probably (enhancement), and the boons have strange mental effects often (mental). This leaves physical as her weakness We don't know how endowment works, but all the internal metals are taken, so it will have to be External, and cultivating seems more pulling, so we're gonna go with that. Bavadinium Would replace the External, Pushing, Enhancement metal; Nicrosil Bavadinium when burnt by an allomancer would have the unexpected effect of surging the spirit web of another person the Allomancer is in contact with. This ability would increase the allomantic abilities of the subject permanently - snapping any unsnapped allomancers, pushing practiced allomancers into savancy. In addition, any existing allomantic metals would surge compounded with the energy burnt from the Bavadinium user, causing a multiplicative nicrosil effect to take place. Strong Bavadinium allomancers would be able to cause single mistings to rarely gain a second misting power along with the above effects (usually one adjacent in the allomantic table) at a very low power. This is often dependent on the individual sDNA of the target. Flaring Bavadinium could occasionally force the awakening of an unbalanced Mistborn, with partial savancy as well as a broken spirit web with damage similar to hemalurgic effects. Bavadin's weak area might be Enhancement. I'm gonna say... External and Pushing Raysium Would replace the Internal, Pulling, Enhancement metal; Aluminium It's fitting that Odium should get the cosmere-strange Aluminium as his metal, though I did not have that in mind when I analyzed his abilities. Raysium, when burned, destroys an Allomancer's investiture, scattering and damaging it beyond repair, turning the Allomancer into an ordinary person, even possibly a slightly spiritually damaged person depending on their allomantic strength. Flaring Raysium would take the person to a similar level of spiritual damage as being hemalurgically spiked, without the accompanying physical trauma. Odium is great at seeing the future (temporal), good at making evil monsters (physical), and plays a lot of mind games (mental). Enhancement is what remains, right? We don't know how Odium works, but judging by all the monster unmade he makes and their abilities, such as death rattles, thrill, corrupted spren, parshendi void forms, etc... I'm gonna say his abilites are Internal and Pulling.
  21. I was just thinking that is it a shame no order has the two surges: Light and Surface Tension. You know where I am going with this.... LIGHTSABERS BABY! What other cool combos of surges can you think of...
  22. Just a bit of fun, but how do you imagine a full shardplate to look? Even though I know it is not correct from the descriptions, I can't help but think of it as looking like Space Marine Power Armour. Just thinking of the scene in Dalinar's Midnight Essence Vision, I basically imagine Space Marines falling out of the sky and kicking chull with enormous swords... awesome!
  23. This is two-parts fun speculation and one-part potential crossover fanfiction fodder, sprinkled with a dash of potential amusement and fanservice. Bake at 350 for twenty minutes, then coat with a thin glaze of slap-dash reasoning. Serves 3.2 million. The Real World, for those fortunate enough to never have been exposed to it, is an American program that airs (aired?) on the now dubiously-named MTV. A "reality" show that was something of a precursor to those that currently inundate network and cable television, focusing on the lives of a group of twenty-somethings who have never before met, spending the summer living in a house, all the while having their fights, romances, trials, tribulations, and immeasurable idiocy recorded for the amusement of others. It has been copied, parodied, ridiculed, and praised for nearly thirty years. Now, it's our turn. Here's what I want to see from you wonderfully inventive people. • Decide where the house should be - some city or town on a published cosmere world, be it Elantris, Hallandren, Elendel, or wherever. • Pick seven characters from any of the published cosmere novels (and I think I'll allow Alcatraz as well, just for funsies) and put them in the house. To make this more interesting, I'd like to stay away from primary viewpoint characters. We already know their story, and we know who they are. If you really want to, you can have ONE, but everyone else has to be secondary or lower. Give them a chance to shine. And try to be diverse; not only with genders, but with age, race, and world of origin. • Argue engage in friendly debate with other posters as to why your selection is better than theirs. • If you like, speculate as to the kind of mundane problems that might arise when you throw these characters together, and why it would be entertaining. Does anyone hook up? Does anyone fight? Is Blushweaver eating all the peanut butter? Is Moash not doing his share of the dishes? Can someone make Denth PLEASE observe the "no pets" rule? Have some fun with this, and don't take it too seriously. This isn't about "who would win," but about "who would be amusing to see in this situation?" I have my own ideas that I'll eventually get to posting, but before I do, I'd like to see some of your cast choice for... The Real World - Cosmere
