  1. So Logna describes how they, along with the other gods or god-like beings, hit some sort of barrier when they reached the dimension where they are. I was thinking about possible reasons that that would have happened, because the implication is that they traveled fairly far upstream but somehow weren't able to travel farther. Maybe there are ways to bend the rules about upstream travel, but only to a certain degree. This would be a reason why they had to stop and didn't go further at the time. Any thoughts on the logic and rules of that?
  2. SPOILERS for Skyward, Reckoners, and Frugal Wizard Brandon has said it’s arguably the case that The Reckoners is in the same fictional world as Skyward. Obviously, since each world has a dimensional multiverse, they could just be in the same multiverse, but maybe it’s more than that: Perhaps in Skyward the humans’ ancestors left earth centuries after the events in The Reckoners occurred. And maybe Calamity was a delver. Unless I’m forgetting something, and I may well be, I see no reason Frugal Wizard couldn’t have happened in the same world as both, after The Reckoners and before humanity left Earth for the stars and Skyward happened. This would require that Epics ceased to exist. Easily possible if we assume Calamity made Mizzy an Epic just before he left. It could be that no one becomes an Epic after Calamity leaves. I admit this possibility is weakened by the remark in Frugal Wizard that Runian had found the only known world to contain anything like magic, but I don’t think that completely refutes the possibility. The definition of magic might be a little subjective. Personally, I’d rather think there continue to be new Epics indefinitely than believe the three series share a universe. Either way, though, they could share a multiverse. What do you think?
  3. The Frugal Wizard's Handbook for Surviving Medieval England (Secret Project 2) is now out to everyone in bookstores (as of June 27th), so with that and because of some scheduling issues in April, we thought we'd do it now! What did we think about the noncosmere Secret Project? Stay tuned to find out! This episode, we have Ian (Weiry), Shannon (Grey), and Kadie (Aon Ene)! Next episode will be Secret Project 3 Reactions, coming July 16th. That one comes out tomorrow! 00:00 Introductions 1:11 Initial Spoiler-free Thoughts 7:19 Spoiler Thoughts: Likes 22:48 Dislikes 24:02 CW: Suicidal ideation 41:13 More Dislikes 44:31 Ryan and Jenn 53:35 Ahura Mazda 58:22 John and Sefawynn 1:06:26 Final Things If you like our content, support us on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/17thshard For discussion, theories, games, and news, come to https://www.17thshard.com Come talk with us and the community on the 17th Shard Discord: https://discord.gg/17thshard Want to learn more about the cosmere and more? 4. Can you believe it's April already? Yep, it's been three months since the start of the year (of the Sanderson), and that means two things for us Sanderson readers. First of all, Tress of the Emerald Sea has received its wide English-language releases from Tor and Gollancz, so if you've missed the Kickstarter, now you can properly purchase the book in all places where books are sold. Unfortunately, that might put you ahead of some Kickstarter backers, as the physical copies of Tress are still being sent out - a consequence of a start-of-the-year bottleneck in printing that continues to haunt the Dragonsteel team as we roll into the fourth month of 2023. Per their own website, they have now sent out 72% of Tress boxes; hopefully, those last books will arrive soon. The Kickstarter backers do have something to tide them over, though, as the unwieldily-named The Frugal Wizard's Handbook for Surviving Medieval England has now been released for backers, with a new cover and a whole new slew of interior art. That's all courtesy of Steve Argyle, whom you might know for his illustrations in The Way of Kings leatherbound and the Kickstarter Knight Radiant posters. The physical copies of Frugal Wizard are only now beginning to depart the Dragonsteel warehouses, but if you have backed the project, you can find the digital version waiting for you on the Backerkit website. As always, remember that the spoiler period for the Secret Projects is six months; we have created the Frugal Wizard forum here on the Shard, as well as a spoiler channel in our Discord, so if you've read the book and wanna share your thoughts, come and join us!
