  1. I know that there isn't a canon answer yet, but what are the main solid theories behind the origins of Feruchemy? In my head, Trell is involved somehow. Since Feruchemy is Ruinous, Preservative, and Autonomous.
  2. Yes you read the title. Yes I'm not kidding This is a outgrowth of several other theories and details which i find interesting. 1. Wayne had a really unlucky childhood. (Both parents & uncle dying when he was young, being pulled unwittingly into crime, etc) 2. Wayne has been extraordinarily lucky in recent years from his investments, to picking up the bands of mourning, to giving them to exactly who would need them later. not to mention getting involved in incredibly important recent events. 3. Wayne uses hats to adopt different personas 4. In this weeks chapter, Wayne admitted his lucky hat helped him hold onto his own over the top personality. 5. Many suspect that Wayne will eventually become a Kandra/worldhopper. Sooooo how are all these important? A number of things. Hats in elendel are often lined with aluminum (to shield against emotional allomancy) So heres the theory. Wayne is born to a poor Terris family in tinweight. Full feruchemy has been unheard of since the Catecendre. He lives directly next to a mine. This is where the theory goes off the rails. the town is not called tin, but tin-weight. Guess what metal has a near identical room temperature density as tin? Chromium. This would be the only magically useful metal available to a destitute young wayne. We see from vin, using allomancy as an orphan kid on the streets that complicated metallic arts may not require specific knowledge or intent, just a vague idea of what you want to do. Wayne says he wants to learn cards to help win the family money, and implies he knows how to cheat. Obviously he could cheat with mundane means, but something odd happens in the sample chapters so far. Wayne plays a game of cards with captured set member, but chooses to play fairly even when he knows their cards. This might suggest he dislikes the principles of normal cheating. E.G. peering over your opponents shoulder, pulling out fake cards etc. Wayne has shown a consistent, but rather bizarre set of morality so far, so this kind of hypocrisy wouldn't be too surprising. But what if Wayne knows how he can get a leg up without doing anything so dishonorable. What if he just gets lucky? Here's the thing. With F-Chromium, he could do just that. By making most of his days unlucky, he could channel his luck into gambling, and make big returns. This could be related to a reveal of how wax's uncle did something similar with gambling and F-Chromium. But in the end it backfired. His poor luck killed his mother, and perhaps earlier his father and uncle too. He might have unconsciously funneled his luck in other aspects of his life When he gets older, and learns more about how the metallic arts work, he realizes what happened in his youth. He had just been trying to be useful to his single mother, and had instead just gotten her killed. He goes into a deep depression, and spirals into crime, repressing his childhood trauma, and in the end, killing an innocent man. But then he gets rescued by Waxillium. He finds new purpose in the law, and ends up distracting from his traumatic past by creating over the top personas. Wierdly enough, he links these to hats of all things. Interestingly, most of his hats are fancy rich people hats. Guess what's high fashion in elendel? Aluminum lines hats. Guess what F-Aluminum stores? That's right. Identity. Wax has been magically storing his personas in his fancy hats this entire time. Wax has been creating personas, and stapling them to the hats in his collection. This links interestingly with a theory that the bowler hat men after Wayne are debt collectors, but debtors, or perhaps trying to give Wayne his equity portions from his investments in the last few books. As a kid, Wayne learned that his pursuit of money only lead to his misery, and grief, explaining why he is so apathetic to his newfound wealth in recent books despite growing up dirt poor. He despises what money did to his life as a kid. He gives it away in any way possible. To the family of his first and last victim, to a promising new inventor making a better elendel etc. And how has Wayne been so lucky despite seemingly bumbling through these last few books? Fortune, caused by F-Chromium. Theres been a lot coincidences I've seen people observe.Shout out to @Requiem17 For the idea that Wayne has access to fortune. This is the same mechanic allowing Hoid to show up exactly where he needs to be when he needs o be there. It just works out for him. So heres the kicker. Wayne in the prologue is shown even early on having a fascination with switching identities through his quote on trying on all the different clothes. This, and his hats may foreshadow him eventually becoming a kandra, hopefully with a happy ending with MeLaan. But how can he become a kandra? All kandra were made from full feruchemists turning into mistwraiths, Perhaps by blanking identity, and maybe some additional steps. This could work with this theory, and would be an interesting conclusion to his character. PS: some holes in the theory. Full Feruchemy apparently vanished due to the entrance of Allomantic genes into terris populations post catecendre. Also while the aluminum hats with identity is really interesting it is unlikely that Wayne is subconsciously using fortune, since he probably avoids carrying random metals around just like wax and Marasi. He could have instinctually tapped the bands of mourning when he picked them up though, and thats how that worked out that he happened to give them to Marasi at the perfect time just @robardin pointed out on the forum. The idea that he's doing this subconsiously is also a bit of a stretch, but in less a month, we'll see how this theory pans out
  3. What if Reverse Compounding involves using the Investiture from filling metalminds? For example, permanently losing your sense of smell, touch, and taste to create a constant stream of Investiture which could power Allomancy. Not really permanent, but it's a trade-off in line with Feruchemy's philosophy. I don't know how the Invesiture would be repurposed, however. Maybe a special fabrial or modified metalmind could do it? Aluminum has Identity-modifying properties and can do weird things with fabrials, so it's a possibility.
  4. can you hemelurgically steal feruchemical powers?
  5. So I’ve been studying the power of the various magic system and while Surgebinding and Elantrian Aons are cool I am under the impression that there are 3 Canadites for the strongest. Hemalurgy, Compunding, and Forgery. But I wanted to her other input and discussion.
  6. What kind of abilities would a person get from being able to Compound aluminum, the sort-of anti-magic metal of Scadrial?
  7. In your opinion, what would make for a particularly fun/cool/interesting powerset for a metalborn character who bonded a radiant spren? For simplicity's sake we'll exclude Mistborn, full Feruchemists, Hemalurgy, and corrupted spren like Glys. Twinborn combinations are allowed, so long as the result is more awesome than the sum of its parts. First one that comes to mind is a Rioter or Soother who's bonded a cryptic. For one thing, you get to double up on social abilities by mixing lightweaving and emotional allomancy. For another, I'd be curious to see whether you can mesh emotional allomancy with soulcasting to riot or soothe the souls of objects, making it easier to persuade them to change.
  8. If Stormlight can heal your spiritual aspect, which you store parts of when you fill a metalmind, could you continuously fill strength while healing the missing strength? different from compounding as you're not always tapping, but allows you to replenish your stores very fast. This assumes that feruchemy makes a part of your sDNA disappear temporarily in a similar way to Hemalurgy.
  9. So, many magics in the cosmere, feruchemy among them, require touch to use them. Feruchemists have to be in physical contact with their metalminds in order to store or tap. Or so we've seen. Contact is required, yes, but why does it need to be physical contact? This is the cosmere, we have three realms to work on. I think that the reason touch is required is cause it forms a basic Connection needed to access the magic. But if you could Connect in other ways, maybe touch isn't even required. I think that if you could increase your Connection to a metalmind, say through the use of tapping feruchemical duralumin, you could access that metalmind without touching it. With a weak Connection, you might have to see that metal but with a strong Connection you might be able to access it from anywhere (as long as you stored enough connection to it beforehand) And I don't think it stops with Feruchemy either. I think you could find a way to make this work with allomancy as well, though that may be trickier since allomancy involves not just touch but the metal being inside you. If Connection isn't enough here, you might have to do some tricky stuff with aluminum and Identity as well. I'm not sure exactly how this would work, but I'm sure there's a way. Now, why is this significant? Well there's obvious boons of having easier access to your magic, and not having to carry as much metal on your person when facing a coinshot/lurcher. But there are a few things I want to highlight - 1) A!Aluminum. Now, I don't really see any particular advantage to being able to burn aluminum from afar. No, what I'm interested in here is Aluminum's effect. See, aluminum seems to work on a similar principal to burning metals; if you burn aluminum, all allomantically viable metals in you disappear, even ones you aren't burning. So if there's some piece of metal you want gone, maybe you could tap Connection to it, burn aluminum, and make it disappear. - 2) Ettmetal. Ettmetal is a godmetal, which tend to have powerful effects, but sadly it's a lot like caesium so you're gonna have a bad time touching it, and don't even think about swallowing it unless you like exploding. But with this trick, you wouldn't have to. So what do you think? Does this seem feasible? What are some other applications of this trick?
  10. Ok, so I haven't read stormlight or know much about investiture, all I know is that it's just what the magic systems are made of. So I'm confused, what does it mean to even drain or store investiture?
  11. So I found this little tidbit on the Arcanum: And it makes me wonder: Are the metalminds you make with an Unsealed Metalmind Keyed to you, Unkeyed or Unsealed?
  12. So the rules are that anyone can Burn a Godmetal, the Atium from Era 1 was apparently a Electrum Alloy so it doesn't count, so would that mean that anyone could store into one? Like an Unsealed Metalmind? I think that you need to know it was possible before you could do it, like with the Medallions. Any thoughts?
  13. If a person were to tap youth from an Atiummind and then relieve the 5th Heightening, would they stay younger, or would they revert to their original age after releasing their Atiummind but still cease to age? If a person with the 5th Heightening were to store youth, would they still look and function as their normal age?
  14. Is it within the realm of reason for a feruchemist to, for example, concentrate their Goldmind health to a specific part of their body? Or maybe make one part of their body lighter and another heavier, without storing the attribute, just redirecting it?
  15. Investiture mimics life, and Cognitive Shadows are Investiture mimicking the person they used to inhabit. Feruchemy is moving around the investiture of your Spiritual self and affecting your Physical self as a result. Evidence: A person filling a nicrosil metalmind is experiencing a loss of kinetic investiture and is undetectable by an Awakener. Forgery would work very similarly mechanically, as it also changes your physical self through manipulating your sDNA. Edit: Could a Cognitive Shadow be stored in a nicrosilmind? What would happen to someone who tapped an unkeyed Cognitive Shadow??
  16. An Unsealed Metalmind can be used by anyone who touches it, is aware of what it is, and uses Intent to activate it. However if you wanted to create a Metalmind that could grant a power only to someone else, I have an idea. Give the person in question an Unsealed Metalmind that allows them to store Identity. You then blank your own Identity while tapping theirs when you create the new Metalmind, hopefully encrypting it with their Identity so that only they can use it. Assuming that you can't tap someone else's Identitmind, you could instead use Hemalurgy to spike off a piece of their Identity, then blank blank your own Identity while not blanking theirs while creating the Unsealed Metalmind. This has more problems than the previous idea, as you would need to heal them from the damaged of the spiking, and we don't even know if a Hemalurgist can selectively store only one of their spikes Identity and ignore their own. However, I thought to cover all avenues, just in case.
  17. Atium:age lerasium: physical toughness. Sazeium:any feruchemical ability? Rasium: emotions ? Tanavastium: self control ? Cultivationium:physical maturity? Mercyium: empathy? Autonomyium: rebellion? Inventionium: creativity ? Endowment: Fertility? ( Really not sure about this one but was the best I could come up with As I can't think of any other physical emotional or spiritual way you could Endow someone or something?) I don't any more guess. What do you think? Do you have any better guess or do you want to try and guess the ones I couldn't?
  18. Apologies if this has been posted already and I didn't find it, or if this is so obvious it doesn't warrant its own post. I was talking to a friend who recently read Warbreaker, and I had this thought when we talked about the potential that Awakening had that is still underused. And while the obvious one is Type Four (Five) Invested Entities, I think RoW showed us a glimpse of another potential application of Breath: Storing Attributes What we saw at the end of RoW in the Meeting between Hoid and TOdium was Hoid losing memories that he had stored in Breaths. In Breaths, or As Breaths. So, who's to say that that's only possible with Memories? You probably see where I'm going with this. (And why I think it might have been posted already) Feruchemy and Awakening are both End-Neutral systems. And while their applications are different, they both are End-neutral because of the closed loops they utilize. In Awakening, you give your breath to something or someone, which endows them with the powers associated with it. They can utilize your breath, no more than what you've given. In Feruchemy, you store attributes in your metalminds. Specific Metals allow for the storage of specific attributes. You can later get these attributes back, no more than what you've given. Now, Feruchemy uses the kinds of metals as keys. Depending on what metal you (can) use, you store different attributes. From how I understand it, Feruchemists use their innate investiture, which is somehow imprinted with the attributes. Attributes in form of Investiture, to be used later. Now, we've seen Hoid do this with Breath. Storing Memories in a different form of Investiture. Of course, Hoid had a lot of time to practice and figure things out, but I think this is an angle of BioChromatic Breath that we might see more of in the future. Storing Attributes and giving these to others. We've seen something similar with Unkeyed Metalminds, where I could store wakefulness, strength, speed etc. and give it to you to tap. For Breath, the difficulty is just figuring out how to store attributes in Breath. I don't know if you need to be a Feruchemist too for that, if you need a specific command or whatever. But once you figure that out, it could be as simple as My life to yours, my Strength become yours. My life to yours, my Memories to yours. My life to yours, my Health to yours. etc. etc. What do you think? Is this possible? How difficult would it be? Does it make sense to expect more of this in the future or will just Worldhoppers like Hoid be able to figure it out?
  19. I have a little idea as to how someone could learn the contents of a huge library without ever even cracking the cover of most of them. First, go to the library. Second, start reading a book, but also look at the titles of the other books. Third, use a Soulstamp to rewrite your past to say that you read a different book than you actually read. Fourth, save the information of the books in a Coppermind, allowing you to retain their knowledge even after the stamp expires. What do you guys think of this plan?
  20. Would an Invested power gained temporarily via Feruchemically Nicrosil be a valid target of Hemalurgy, since it is an actual change made to the Spiritual aspect?
  21. If a Feruchemist could get their hands on a Shardblade, could they store an attribute in it? Would a dead Shardblade work better since it is at least a little less invested than a live one?
  22. We know that it is possible to store Bio-Chromatic Breaths inside a Nicrosilmind, which is essentially just a small piece of Innate Investiture. Does this mean that if someone from Scadrial, Roshar, or some other Shardworld where people have innate Investiture but who don't have any Invested powers, could they store their Innate Investiture as a Nalthian could store their Breath? Or is there a difference between a Breath gained from someone else and your own, personal Breath?
  23. In Feruchemy, there is a certain amount of Investiture that you can store in a piece of metal, but it is not linear .This means that physical size of the container is not everything. If it were, any increase in mass of the Metalmind would equally increase the amount of Investiture that could be stored. So, this seems to mean that the Cognitive or Spiritual aspects could be even more important than the physical aspect, which makes sense since Investiture is mostly Spiritual in it's composition, so that's where most of the "mass" of the Investiture would be stored. I would suggest then that it may be possible to increase the amount of Investiture that could be stored inside a Metalmind without increasing it's physical size either by expanding it's Spiritual aspect, or by manipulating it's Identity, which is the trait that defines the Spiritual borders of an object or entity.
  24. Would a Skimmer (iron) or Brute (pewter) ferring win in a fistfight? Would the enhanced strength of F-Pewter or sheer mass of a fist from an F-Iron user pack a greater punch?
  25. If two Trueself Ferrings were to store there Identity within the same Aluminummind, would anyone who then tapped it gain an Identity that was a combination of the two Ferrings, or would they sense two separate pools of Investiture, each one granting the Identity of one of the Ferrings?
