  1. To TLDR i've decided to write a short story set during era 2 with the main character being a constable who is a A-Bronze F-Chromium metalborn, I understand that F-Chromium is barely understood but how i've written it is that his metalminds give him a gut feeling for things (Like the begining where hes brougth in a no-metalborn on charges for a crime clearly done by a metalborn as his gut tells him to) But as I looked around i couldn't find any good names, nor think of any, for this twinborn combo or a synergy if there was one
  2. So I've been wondering something while re-reading TLM. What happens to Hemalurgic Spikes after they're brought back from the Set? Are they just locked up in a Constable evidence locker while having their charge slowly drain away? Do the Kandra confiscate them to keep the secret of Hemalurgy? Do the Ghostbloods nab them while no one is looking? I'm just curious since after Wax and Co got finished ripping the Set a new one, what happens to all those dozens of precious, power granting, Non-Trellium spikes?
  3. So at the end of The Lost Metal, with a duralumin spike, wax pushes off the top of a skyscraper and makes it to the ship miles away. It specifically says that the steel beams are bent backwards. This got the engineer in me thinking. How large are steel lines. Stress is equal to force over area and the size of the steel lines affects this greatly. A second question with this is: can a coinshot push off of multiple steel sources right next to each other in order to get a stronger push?
  4. I was thinking about theives in shadesmar and I realized that some of the less helpful usually feruchemy can be used welll for shadesmar fighting. Imagine a twinborn, A-steel, for moving quickly, and F-cadmium, which stores breath. If they were in a fight in shadesmar, they could use coins to go through the ocean if they had stored up enough breath. Cadmium compounding would also be great for shadesmar fighting, if you have an allomantic grenade. Free movement through the ocean and being able to trap your enemies in slow time? Maybe only a full feruchemist could do it because you'd need to be strong to push through the beads, and it might hurt you with that weight on your shoulders. Maybe A pewterarm/cadmium ferring could walk across the bottom of the ocean, or a full ferruchemist using gold, pewter and cadmium. ANy thought? other Ideas for shadesmar fighting?
  5. Upon reading The Lost Metal I’ve realized that in all Era 2 books, Malatium (the eleventh metal) is not in the ars arcanum. It is in Well of Ascension and Hero of Ages. It was a very important metal, helping Vin figure how to kill TLR. So why in era 2 would a know burnable metal be left out of the ars arcanum?
  6. So ima just dig right in with my theory and yall can give your thoughts. I might be grasping a little or clinging onto vague ideas but I like the theory so I might as well post it. Base allomancy comes in a set of 16 with subsets; Push, Pull, Internal, External, physical, mental, temporal, and enhancement. pretty basic allomancy knowledge, right? but we also know that every god metal can make their OWN allomantic sets, with atium alloys as our proof. the 11th metal (gold and atium) and the atium mistborn burn (atium and electrum). now usually there wouldn't be much for me to build off after that. each god metal is another set of 16, how could we possibly figure out what each power will do without knowing something like the subject of the powers, like physical in the base set. except we DO know one of the subsets for ruin's set of allomancy. and its the same as the base set. in fact the powers are nearly identical, except for one key difference. they have switched from internal, to external. gold is an internal metal, so is electrum. but their atium alloy counterparts aren't. the 11th metal lets you see other peoples past(or potential future still not sure) selves. but gold lets you see your own past/potential futrue self. nearly identical powers, except for the fact that the subset has flipped. so here is the theory. are ALL the allomantic powers in ruin's allomancy, simply the same power with a subset flipped? how would that translate into powers like tin, or pewter? or duralumin? we already have a power that essentialy works the same as duralumin, except it is focused externally. its already a thing in base allomancy. is it simply a fluke? a coincidence? or, does this perhaps work like the power overlaps in the knight's Radiant orders? they share power types across certain orders. are we maybe just seeing something similar to that? do ruin and preservation simply share an allomantic subset, changed slightly to fit them? or is it even less than that, just sharing these two powers, used in separate ways, because i cannot fathom how you can use time bubbles internally. or is it something else yet again? does ruin have external powers, and then a different subset, that isnt internal at all? Sorry, I know thats a lot more question than theory, but Its been scratching in my head for a while.
  7. So one of my friends is close to finishing Hero of Ages, and I want to present her with the choice of reading Secret History after Hero, and I want to be able to tell her the reasons for each reading order. So, what are the reasons for reading secret history after Hero or after Bands? After Hero the events are fresher in your mind, and after Bands you don't get spoiled on the reveal at the end, are there any more?
  8. In Kelsier's epilogue, he and Sazed discuss whether or not Sazed should lead the people of Scadrial to a technological revolution. Sazed states that it's better for the people to discover things on their own. Kelsier counters the conflict wouldn't have happened if the people of Scadrial had been more advanced. Sazed has admitted previously that he thinks he's made things to easy for the people of the Basin, and that's why they haven't advanced as much as he'd expected. But if he'd given them the technology, they wouldn't need to discover it. Who's beliefs are more valid? Personally, I think Sazed's opinion is more valid. This resonates with several other fictional sources I'm fond of, and I think it's true. In Stormlight Archives, Dalinar discusses with one of his ardents the value of growing stronger through adversity, both as an individual and as a people. And the two discussions resonate, I think. Beyond that, the concept of people valuing things they've earned over what they've been given is something that's often explored in literature and other media. And that appreciation affects how they treat whatever it is. Be it technology, peace, or even financial wealth. Right now, Sazed says he puts people where they need to be, but allows them to make their own decisions. That's not a bad approach, all things considered. Perhaps Sazed could help nudge people in the right direction a little, but just giving the secrets away seems unwise. Hand outs are dangerous, because people can start to rely on them very easily, and because once it happens a first time, it's much harder to argue against doing it a second time. Teach a man to fish, and all that.
  9. What year is mistborn era 2 based on I was thinking 1913 The furthest they could be is 1920 in my opinion does anyone know ?
  10. Is wax a stronger allomancer than normal his ancestors our Breeze and allrianne Who are both full nobles so his blood is a little bit less diluted than normal right so maybe he’s a little bit stronger than a regular coin shot not much but just enough to give him a little bit of a edge when he’s fighting what do you guys think ?
  11. I'm sorry if this has already been mentioned or if there's a better place for this, so please correct me if I'm wrong. The other day I was re-listening to the Final Empire, when I got to the part where Kelsier was talking to the gang after destroying the Pits of Hathsin (Chapter 33), when Kelsier says the following: With Era 2 being 300ish years after Era1, could Trell be coming in "force" because it knows that atium's, or The Lost Metal's, "production" will be returning for the first time in over 300 years? (I have a dumb theory on Trell being an Odium-corrupted avatar of Autonomy that makes absolutely no sense) This is definitely up to what Harmony wants to do, or has been doing, with the excess Ruin. I say excess Ruin because, in my mind (I'm tired, so I'm probably not thinking straight), to remain as Harmony (and not become Discord), there needs to be an equal parts Preservation and Ruin, but Ruin has more "power" of the two. So, the excess Ruin needs to go somewhere, maybe Harmony's reuse the Lord Ruler's previous method of "draining" Ruin's power (if it works why change it?). Now if you'll excuse me, I'll need to go rethink my life for a bit. And I look forward to everyone telling me why I'm wrong.
  12. Well I am happy to say I got all my npcs created for the one shot. With motives, clues, and drama prepped in advance for my players to stumble across. Now to just get a map so they have a basic idea of the manor layout and refresh myself on the rules of character creation. Hope this will provide a good introduction to the setting for them and maybe get them to read the cosmere. Wish me luck
  13. So, we know that mistborns are a thing of the past because the genes of allomancers and feruchemists are mixed and diluted, compared to 300 years ago. However, feruchemy can grant someone misting and ferring powers. Is there anything that states whether someone going through hemalurgy to become a mistborn or full feruchemist could reintroduce those power to the population? I understand that hemalurgy works by affecting spiritwebs, but i dont remember anything stating outright if that was involved directly or indirectly with genetics, especially with those related with investiture.
  14. If you could bring one thing to era 2 what would you bring if you had 1000 lbs of stuff you can bring.
  15. If you could bring one thing to era 2 what would you bring if you had 1000 lbs of stuff you can bring.
  16. I'm not sure if this has been answered but my 5 minute google search returned nothing haha. So as I'm rereading mistborn era 2 one thing that bothered me was the aluminum-lined hats. Why are tiny bullets so expensive, but somehow common people have aluminum lined hats (I say common because I believe at the start of book 2 I believe there was a group with them)?
  17. So, I was reading back over (well, listening) to the end of Bands of Mourning, and some things stuck out to me. Emphasis mine. Now, at first I had just assumed that the Faceless Immortals were corrupted kandra a la Bleeder. After all, the two terms have been synonymous up to this point. However, what if these creatures, while both immortal and without a fixed appearance, are a whole different animal than kandra? The first thing that makes me think this is the usage of "A beggar stolen off the street." Sure, this could just be referring to the body, since a kandra could either kill a beggar or scavenge an already dead one to use their body as a disguise. But the word 'body' isn't specifically used here. Mild Oathbringer spoilers for this second point, but the glowing red eyes also bring to my mind the glowing red eyes of the possessed men in Amaram's army (and to a lesser extent, the Fused in general). Thirdly, the Set Faceless Immortal we see seems pretty unconcerned with blowing itself up along with Suit. Now, this could be fanaticism, but I have a different thought. What if these "Faceless Immortals" are bodysnatching cognitive entities, instead of kandra? I can't say for certain that they're Fused or voidspren, since I don't think we have a clear enough idea of Trell's identity, but they certainly seem to behave similarly and it would be a satisfying explanation to the three above observations.
  18. This would be using the Cogent Roleplay System and I would be the Narrator. If you don't know what Cogent is, you can find it here. To summarize the slightly long rulebook, the Cogent System is much simpler version of more common systems like DnD and Pathfinder. It focuses on roleplay more than they tend to as well. It uses only three attribute points, Strength, Reflex, and Intelligence. Each attribute has five skills underneath it. In order to accomplish a task, you gain a certain number of six sided dice depended on how many points you have in the applicable attribute and skill and a couple other things that might come up later. Combat doesn't even necessarily need a map. When it comes to the setting, more will be revealed when I have time.
  19. So something that keeps popping up, at least for me, is how often Wax seems to find crowded places or tight spaces a bit uncomfortable. He mentions a few times that he finds parties packed with people suffocating or words to that effect. He also prefers wide open spaces like the Roughs, where you can see all around and genuinely seems better in those places. In other instances it doesn't come up because he seems to be focused on a task at hand, rather than on all the people around him. For the sake of argument I will say that I think most people don't like being in tight spaces or the thought of being crushed, obviously and I find a large open room with tons of people in it (barring some exceptions) to be intimidating or otherwise uncomfortable. People with actual claustrophobia would you say this fits? Or can you have mild symptoms without being actually claustrophobic? Let me know your thoughts
  20. So when kelsier destroyed the pits of hathsin , he destroyed the perpendicularity there. Similarly did vin destroy the perpendicularity at the well by freeing ruin ?? How long were the perpendicularlites defunct ? We know hoid went back out to the cosmere pretty soon. Is the shardpool mentioned in era 2 , preservations shardpool relocated or a new one ? Why weren't khriss and nazh able to use the well like hoid did ? Could they have ? Could vin have slid into the cr and talked with kel, after freeing ruin if she knew what to do ??
  21. Let's say the Leecher has an insane amount of chromium ingested, would they be able to drain Nightblood quicker than Nightblood could kill them? My guess is yes because theoretically you'd only have to release a certain number of breaths worth of investiture before the metal loses sapience. Unless every bit of investiture Nightblood has drained since it was created has been stored within the sword, at which point I think the Leecher is done for lol. Especially since a certain event in RoW (No spoilers). But I see no indication of that since the sword is always "hungry." Similarly what would a Nicroburst do to Nightblood? Flaring all of it's Investiture so it uses it in a single burst I feel would kill everything around the sword in a huge radius, possibly planet killing. Kind of a crazy thought.
  22. Hello hello hello! I don't know how many people know this, but there's a Mistborn RPG? Mistborn Adventure Game It's super cool. I haven't done anything with it yet, but I really want to. However, there's also an additional book you can get that's based on Alloy of Law and general Era 2 stuff. Alloy of Law Book Inside of this second one is a bunch of stuff for Twinborn, including some other names for them! We know that Wax is a Crasher, but did you know that Wayne is a Constant? And Miles Hundredlives is known as a Timeless? There's a bunch of names, so here they are! The Mistborn Adventure Game isn't canon, and Brandon didn't write these names. I think that it's still a fun idea and cool to look at all of them!
  23. Firstly, allow me to clarify the title. No, I didn't read each book in order but from back to front. No i didn't read Hero of ages first, then WoA, then TFE. I read. ALL. Of ERA 2. FIRST. Alloy of Law was my first ever BRANDON SANDERSON novel. Wax was the first Cosmere character I read about. So let me tell you about my experience with reading Mistborn backwards. It was actually cool. Make no mistake, I have no regrets about reading the books this way. It was a fun and interesting experience to treat Era 1 as a prequel trilogy (everyone loves prequel trilogies, right?) with Era 2 as the "present day". Seeing all of the references to past characters as my first time learning of their existence was fascinating, seeing Vin immortalized as the Ascendant Warrior and wondering, "WOW, what did she have to do for THAT to happen?" made reading era 1 and seeing how Vin started out all the more interesting. I guess a comparable irl thing would be like meeting a celebrity and getting to know them on a personal level instead of just being aware of their celebrity persona. When Harmony showed up through Wax's earring and spoke to him, I was like, "Damn, God himself is just a chill dude who wants to keep things safe. ....And also not omnipotent, hmmmm." That was some interesting foreshadowing (retroshadowing?) for the end of HoA. Wax's Twinborn powers were immediately a favorite out of all magical skills i've ever seen, though being a Bloodmaker sounds more practical in a real life setting. I hate the idea of getting hurt in such a way that permanently damages me, so knowing that F-Gold could restore even a lost limb given enough time, really sounds appealing to me. The speed bubbles of Bendalloy and Cadmium were fascinating to read about, time dilation is one of my favorite things in science fiction, and Cadmium would be great for being able to just sit through boring stuff in a fraction of the time. And then it being the key component to Miles' defeat, just... Chef's Kiss. Perfecto. Introduce an ability that feels useless and impractical, and then smack the reader in the face with, "sure, BUT..." And then Ironeyes. Rusting IRONEYES. As a fan of Terry Pratchett, a "personification of Death" character will always remind me of Death from Discworld, so it was a little "Ha!" moment when he showed up. And Miles' prophecy about the "Men of red and gold, bearers of the final metal" was suitably ominous for the book's main antagonist's final words. Shadows of Self, hoo... That was an emotional roller coaster, surprisingly. I won't lie, I cried at the end. And the Trellium spikes... other than Ironeyes, that was my first glimpse of Hemalurgy. and Bleeder really made it feel terrifying. The Kandra as a whole were actually quite satisfactorily explained in Era 2 that I felt like I comprehended their functionality having read just those 2 books so far. And it really made the mystery novel aspect of the book feel much more intense, when anyone you know could be a Kandra... cue The Spy: "He could be any one of us!" And yeah, when it was revealed that Bleeder/Paalm WAS the real Lessie from the intro of Alloy, I cried. I felt furious at Harmony for misleading Wax into doing that, to forcing her hand into killing herself so that Harmony wouldn't be capable of making her into his pawn again. Harmony started to feel like a nontagonist (neither pro- nor antagonist, a middle ground of moral grey, which in retrospect makes perfect sense given his Shards). Bands of Mourning, OH BOY, this is probably my favorite Mistborn book just because of the Southerners and Ettmetal. Now remember, I had no idea who Kelsier was other than The Survivor, and The Lord Ruler was basically a footnote in my knowledge. So the mystery of the Sovereign's temple, the false bands, that was all extra mysterious. The Ettmetal cubes were AWESOME. Mechanically-altered allomantic and feruchemical effects was SUCH a fun thing to add to the series, and making a rusting AIRSHIP using them? Dope. So dope. Translation medallions were a fascinating addition, and promptly set my brain a-theorizin' upon what they could do and how they were made... No concrete theory on it yet, but I suppose Lost Metal will tell us all what we need to know about it. And of course, crossing the two, Ettmetal cubes and Medallions, I realized you could basically turn anyone into a Leeching grenadier for rapid metal depletion. Put an A-Chromium medallion on them, give em Ettmetal cubes, and let them cause chaos by depowering people around the area. The reveal of Kelsier being the Sovereign probably hit me a lot less hard than the average mistborn reader, but it was a FASCINATING reveal that the Survivor had managed to live, you know, 300+ years and reach the southern scadrians. And of course that made the reveal that Kel dies in the midst of book 1 all the more nutty and shocking for me when I read TFE. "Wait, he WHAT?!" So yeah, that's a rough summary of my thoughts from reading Era 2 as my first-ever cosmere books.
