  1. Be warned: this challenge is not for the faint of heart. Seventeenth Sharders, welcome to my humble abode of challenge and book loving. I find that this is the eve of the last week before we are blessed with the release of Words of Radiance. Indeed, I must say that the warm fire of Brandonium burns comfortably in my stomach, Heightening my anticipation. However, this challenge, as I said, is not for the faint of heart; it goes beyond Skimming, involving fully Reoding the complete works of Brandon Sanderson's cosmere, in order to reAwaken our knowledge of his universe. I want to Lash out at the people who have already read it, and my impatience will make me snap. Fear not, for I have a plan. Every day, I intend on reading at least one of his books (Alloy of Law and Emperor's Soul are put on the same day). Then, on Tuesday, I will finish by devouring Words of Radiance. Here is my schedule, for those of you who are brave enough to join me: Tuesday: Mistborn, the Final Empire. Wednesday: Mistborn, the Well of Ascension Thursday: Mistborn, the Hero of Ages Friday: Alloy of Law, Emperor's Soul Saturday: Elantris Sunday: Warbreaker And finally: Monday: The Way of Kings. As I go through this Olympian endeavor, I will post my thoughts about the challenge and the books themselves. I encourage you all: Join me! Happy Reading, Sharders.
  2. Alright guys. This one is for you. A note before you read this is that Swimmingly is the one who made the discovery. I just think that a different title for the post might spread the word more, and I want to get reactions. So. In the google play or the ibooks version of the Emperor's Soul, there is now a deleted scene, featuring none other than our one and only Hoid taunting Shai. From this point on, I'm going to assume that you've read this, because it's pretty much canon. First off, I'm now positive that we will see Shai again, and I'm even more certain that she has a fascinating backstory of deep cosmerical relevance. Also, I'm curious as to what the Scepter entails, and I'm curious to what timeline the Emperor's Soul is in, and where it stands in relation to Elantris. Is it possible that Hoid was only in Elantris because it was on the way? But I digress. Onward, to one bonus, swaggilicious, chapter of Sanderson, with Hoid as you've seen him before, and you will see him many times hereafter!
  3. First off, much credit to vikorr! He is the person who set this off in my brain case. Second off, if this has been said before, then I'm sorry! And finally... the theory! Alright, ladies and gentlemen. The main of my theory lies on the principle that a spren bond has to do largely with your cognitive aspect. Which is not only decided by how you view yourself, but how others view you. In the Emperor's Soul, Shai tells us, It is important to know that when Shai describes the Cognitive Realm, she says that the way an object is viewed before she says and how it views itself. Which brings us to our next point. When Syl is talking about what Kaladin used to be, and why she followed him, she says, A large part of the reason that Syl joined with Kaladin was because that others saw him as upholding his honor. Even when he was a wretch, he still held some of that respect. Now, onto the recreance. There are two death rattles that are particularly significant: Emphasis on the love. In it's absence, the bond dissolves (which relies on the conjecture we get, finally, by moving onto Feverstone Keep). From <WoR Spoilers!> We know that many spren died in this event. They died because not only did the knights Radiant forsake their vows, the people of Feverstone Keep visibly saw it as a betrayal. They had thought of the Knights Radiant as enemies and traitors, and were prepared to fight for their lives. So... Tadaa! In culmination: A massive part of the nahel bond is having an honorable cognitive aspect, which is largely determined by how others view you.
  4. I just wanted to let everyone know that Tachyon have started selling limited edition hardcovers of The Emperor's Soul. They're all signed, but there are only 1000 available for purchase. If how fast the more expensive copies of Legion sold out is any indication, you might want to get on with buying it if you're interested. It costs $25 plus whatever sort of shipping you want, and can be found right here on Tachyon's Emperor's Soul page. Also, hopefully the Hugo win last night means that we might see the unveiling of the deleted scene with Hoid at the beginning, like Peter suggested.
