So this theory is about urithiru. so the theory was bouncing in my head on possible ways to take a bondsmith off planet, as we know bondsmiths are as op as the cosmer allows, and it’ll be useful to have access to them on more the three planets at most. So the theory hit me, urithiru would be perfect to transform into a massive mother ship. within the books it talks about how the sibling is the metal not the stone in the tower, using the stone to build upon the massive city. So my thought was why not put it on a ship and fly off roshar, maybe just cutting the mountain off and flying that(not the most cost effective but it could work) now the only problem I can see is a lack of towerlight but I see it more as a non issue because of the bondsmiths abilities to, what? Open perpendicularities. They literally have near infinite light. But what if the Bondsmith dies? Oh that’s easy. In the honor spren fortress their is a large container to store stormlight, I’m sure one can be made to hold towerlight, so that the sibling has plenty of time to choose the next bondsmith. so what’s yalls thoughts? Ideas? How would rosharin space craft look like? And how much easier/harder do you think it is to make them?

Alethela, the country that is the watcher at the rim. Who learn war to better protect the world when the voidbringers return. Within this country is a book. An important book that every officer has to read. But why? lets look at two people that suffer from the same affliction especially when you look back. Moash and Amaram. exhibit 1: Amaram Let’s look at past interactions with the light of RoW to see what’s happening in the background. (Also SA5 Prologue in spoiler section) We know after kaladin gained his first pair of shards Amaram betrayed and killed kaladins squad. But why? in tWoK after winning his shards kaladin and his remaining squad are in Amarams command tent waiting for Amaram to finish talking to someone. This someone we find out is restaries. The herald Kelek, leader of the sons of honor. we then hear Amaram saying that after hours of discussion he finally agreed to restaries idea to take the shards himself to better serve alethkar. Within this we can see that kaladin himself mentioned that he saw Amarams guilt on his face. And tried to do the most honorable thing in his position and sold him as a slave. after Amarams confrontation with kaladin and Dalinar he starts regretting letting kaladin live. A bit different then during the confrontation, where he looked hurt and guilty but also apologized and said that he did it for alethkar not personal. now in oathbringer we start seeing Amaram descend into a downward spiral. he tries to forge an alliance with Dalinar(who he witnessed burn a city killing everyone in anger) but keeps being shamed by him(for killing four men for literally one of the most powerful weapons in roshar). Being put to physical work in a broken country that every alethi knew would be a perfect, easy, capture. Being contacted by odium with promises of power, and no guilt or anger. exhibit 2: moash not much is really needed to be said in this post about moash. I talked more about Amaram because people don’t seem to want to understand him. Hating him because kaladin hates him. Or at best feeling sad about lost potential. but moash has been debated on and hated on constantly sense WoR we know he’s effected by the unmade losing his negative emotions and feeling a void. (Interesting especially sense it seems positive emotions aren’t effected as far as we know) and it seems he truly wants this. So theirs that. so back to alethela, my theory on this is that people read tWoK not just to make it easier to bond spren, but to help the leaders not to make miss steps, to not act in greed to open themselves to the unmade, as we saw the unmade alone completely wiped out cities, countries, with their advance emotional allomamcy. so what do you think? Was tWoK used as a life style to better live by honor?

Mistborn vs jedi Fun idea, 4 pages of constant arguing much fun. now let’s bring it over here 1) each order of radiant 1v1 a Jedi (use averages not kaladin, or anakin) 2) each order 1v1 a sith 3) a person swallows Yelig-nar and must fight a Jedi with no practice 4) a person is practiced with yelig-nar but the Jedi is aware of the abilities (to make it fair) 5) the best of the best from both sides face off who wins 6) radiants vs droid army who wins, why? bonus round! Regular shardbearer vs padawan ground rules: 1a) lightsabers and shardblades bounce off each other, as per a WoB that I’m sure @Frustration can provide. 1b) sense shardblades and plate are made of nearly the same stuff, plate will react as being hit with a blade when struct with a lightsaber. 2) no fighting in one universe or the other, 3rd party world for our entrainment. (This doesn’t include how the force might work within the cosmer discussions) 3) give reason why/why not one side would win. ex: limited stormlight, higher durability, better healing

So I’m on my 3rd reread of the SA and I’m doing it right after finishing mistborn era 1 and I can’t help but notice the similarities and differences between the two series. Namely how they both treat “the end of the world” narrative. In mistborn especially HoA the entire atmosphere is depressing as. People trying to survive something that is desperately trying to kill them. And when you take a step back you notice the fact that with all the deaths that they were fortunate to even have won. (this post i like, even with the confusion, it shows the true devastation that the people were dealing with. ) Stormlight handles things vastly different than mistborn. In stormlight the hero’s are able to fight back. Sure it’s a “hopeless” fight but the humans are able to push odium into a disadvantaged deal. Where as in mistborn Ruins purpose was to extinct everyone and everything. Odiums is to conquer and control. But here’s the thing we didn’t know that until book3-4 especially RoW when odium flat out says that he doesn’t want to kill off all of humankind( just use them as fodder for better soldiers (his words not mine)) for book 1,2 we are lead to believe that the desolations were catastrophes with the human race existence On the line. (Wile it was true for a few desolations it is not for the Final Desolation) So here is where the differences really are. mistborn era 1 is the death of scadrial (no more mistborns, no more keepers, vast parts of the population killed) and it’s rebirth Stormlight is the revival of Roshar. (the magic coming back, ancient enemies, cities, access to the CR) tldr: mistborn era 1 and stormlight are stories of the end of the world. One is the death of the world and the other is death of the current world.

The thought came to mind after people were talking in another post if an aluminum mirror would reveal a lightweaver. And they mentioned how being able to look into the CR might reveal them with the discrepancies. Then I thought maybe not them but possibly reveal the spren. And who have we seen that can sense spren? That’s right mr unhappy zahal himself. So how can radiants counter such a measure. That’s easy, get rid of the spren. ok ok so it’s not like I’m saying break the bond or to somehow hemalurgy the spren for the abilities but simply leave the spren at home, in RoW kaladin and syl get separated and syl loses herself due to the distance between them. But once they are close she is right back to being herself. Kaladin is still awake, and able to use stormlight during the dampening of his abilities. So as far as we know this doesn’t hurt the spren just dumbs them down for a time, and it doesn’t matter for the radiant as they can still use their abilities. Now obviously they work better together than alone but in order to properly infiltrate some places they might have to separate, maybe the spren can go back to the CR to retain thoughts? As long as the bonds not broken it should be fine right?

Ashertmarm the one that causes people to become gluttons. I think his purpose was to soften areas like kolinar weaken the leadership to make it easier to capture. I think that’s why leadership read “The Way of Kings” to be in a better position to bond a spren to be resistant to unmade influence. Ba-Ado-Mishram (BAM) as far as we know the smartest of the unmade with abilities to “connect” with the singers A commander in the war and possibly led the troops when odium couldn’t. I think the roll is now taken by the everstorm in a smaller capacity. Chemoarish nothing is known for certain Dai-Gonarthis Steals emotions. Especially guilt it seems Maybe to pacify conquer people. Or to make champions of people especially ones that have excessive guilt. Moelach Mr.death rattles This is the one I was thinking of that started this post. I think the death rattles were used to clog up the future vision for honor and/or cultivation. Possibly giving them information to manipulate them. Nergaoul The thrill possibly used to intensify the battles to unsettle the radiants who were immune to the effects. Re-shephir The midnight mother Most likely used to wipe out small towns as seen in Dalinar visions or maybe to handle battles where there wasn’t any radiants Sja-anat the corrupter/enlightener of spren most like used to turn spren to odiums side wile using them as scouts Yelig-nar Can do all 10 surges most likely an assassin creature or a champion used to turn the tide in battles. So I started my relisten of the stormlight archive and I was once again thrown into the the amazing setting the shattered plains. So i just let thoughts of how this could have happen, and more importantly why it happened. so now I have a theory that I’ll present right now. its under the assumption that the shattering of the plains are caused by use of a dawnshard rather then the splintering of honor. I think that the shattered plains was caused by the knights radiants due to one of the silver kingdoms 1) going to war with them or 2) harboring the listeners hear me out. 1) constantly we hear in book one and two that the knights radiants “betrayed us” (after RoW I thought that it was because they betrayed the spren but it can’t be, sense most people didn’t understand/care for spren outside of the knights) 2) in book one there is an ancient passage where a king talks about traveling through the oathgates to talk to the Knights in alethela about the excessively high tax to use the gates. within this passage he talks about how they were starting to show their true nature. Showing that without the desolations the knights were falling into a more dominant kingdom and possibly self serving. 3) the recreance was a sudden stop that happened within a couple of days that’s as said caused a genocide Of 8 orders of spren. 4) the sibling was not bonded and the tower was locked by the knights 4b) it should be noted that the sibling lost the ability to hear honors tone and in so doing lost the ability to make tower light but was most likely still bonded as the sibling didn’t trust people but was still bonded to milishi who created the device to prevent anyone from accessing the main tower room. That used that’s right stormlight not towerlight 5) we know the recreance wasn’t because of the binding of BAM nor the enslavement of the singers due to this WoB https://wob.coppermind.net/events/374/#e12242 5b) as per the WoB we can assume that milishi was dead by the time the recreance happened and never broke his oaths. 5c) this also puts into perspective the battle at Firestone keep, they weren’t fighting singers. But humans 6) there is one radiant order that is still around that has division as one of its surges. so this is what I think happened. they trapped BAM and hurt the sibling making them unable to produce towerlight at the same time lobotomize the singers. They are probably relieved/horrified about what happened to their ancient enemy. They then can’t live in the tower due to it holding an unmade And no bondsmith so they make the most sane choice right? They lock the oathgates and basically fracture the economy across roshar. this of course causes outrage and different knights orders start fighting rather each other or united against the the rest of roshar It’s a slaughter and oaths are said in such a way to allow it to continue. (Ex I’ll protect the people of alethela against any threat) I believe that natanatan was the leader of the insurrection and in order to permanently stop the war a team of skybreakers went to the capital and used a dawnshard along with the surge division and destroy natanatans capital. after the other orders heard it they decided that the time of knights radiants was over and chose with their spren to end their oaths. Not realizing that they will kill their spren. The skybreakers keep to their oaths possibly uncaring( should be known that the 4th ideal is a crusade) or because they saw what happened to the spren. Now you might not be convinced completely but I have one last piece of evidence. It was in one of the visions honor tells Dalinar that odium knows that left by themselves that humans will destroy each other. I think that was the plan to let humans continue to fight with thousands of shardblades killing each other and basically being a desolation all by themselves. Reducing their technology so that the final desolation can come in and easily take over.

I know this is probably gonna be controversial, and a lotta people probably are gonna disagree with me, and that's fine. Does anyone else kinda not like how Jasnah is handled? I don't really hate her or anything it's just, the way Brandon writes her just feels sorta off and not very compelling. To me anyway. Specifically, it feels like she's sorta too perfect, especially in a series where being a flawed person striving to do better is such a big thing. Never at any point does Jasnah ever really fail at anything, and the few times she sorta does, nothing really becomes of it. She, despite being a woman of extreme privilege uproots the ancient Alethi slave tradition, and completely ends Dark Eyes oppression (which none of the characters this ACTUALLY involves even really comment on or are a part of), because she's just so cool and epic and badass because she just is. There's no real backlash to this, she steals this moment away from characters that actually care about this. She's just this perfect queen. And like, every time someone in world legitimately opposes her, they are made out to be an absolute buffoon. Look at the Alethi lord in RoW. That entire sequence was frankly just rediculous. Navani and Kaladin and Shallan are facing extremely dangerous situations, and making mistakes that have lasting consiquences because they are human beings, while Jasnah is fighting a storming caricature of the patriarchy. Seriously? A lot of the time she doesn't feel like an actual human being, to the point where the few scenes Brandon tries to make her seem vulnerable just feel fake, at least to me. Am I missing something? Am I supposed to see her in a different light? All the other characters have their ideals and attitudes radically challenged and are forced to adapt and overcome things. Jasnah, despite having a pretty rediculous and arguably un-radiant moral code just succeeds at everything. I'd love to be convinced otherwise, it's just, it's been really bothering me on my second reread of the series

My prediction for the nature of "the Demon" Lifeforce had inside him is he is a twin of Lifeforce who was absorbed in the womb. Sometimes when this happens the surviving person will have two sets of DNA in them: their own and the twin's. There have been cases where the twin DNA is in the blood specifically, which fits with how the Demon / Deathwish is described and how it was transferred to Paige. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chimera_(genetics)#Humans The Epic powers are DNA based as shown with the all the motivators requiring DNA of the Epic. The absorbed twin's DNA got the powers which created a sapient entity within that wasn't exactly Lifeforce, thus the separate entity inhabiting the blood. Sentient blood, that's a new one to me!

This is a place to discuss any and all theories about who Odium’s champion for the contest of champions with Dalinar will be. To get you started, here are my thoughts on the topic. (This might run a little long, so I’ll put it in a spoiler box):

In Oathbringer, Nale had a discussion with Szeth about following the law of the land. They determined that since the Singers were the first settlers of Roshar, that the law of the land would be the law of the Singers, and therefore, the law of Odium. Recently, at the end of Rhythm of War, Leshwi, along with Venli and several Singers and Heavenly Ones, split from the rest of the Singers and Fused and escaped. So that presents a question: Does Nale know of these events? If so, would the law that should be followed be the law of Leshwi's faction or the law of the Fused?

So obviously the old Radiants broke their oaths and killed their spren, but where did they go? Like, do we know if they went to a specific location or did they just fall off the face of the earth? (ie we don't know yet)

So now that we have confirmation that shardplate is made of lesser spren this opens up the question as to how its going to be handled for Knights bonded to a Sja-anat spren. Are they going to just use normal spren? Will they require more corrupted spren to be made for their plate to be formed? Is it individual to the Radiant as to which of the above? Based on what we see with Kaladin it does seem to take _alot_ of spren to form the plate. Thoughts?

So as Im reading RoW, a thought came to my mind. What would the process of a Human/Singer bonding a spren look like in the Cognitive Realm? Is it even possible? Also, could a person "encounter" a spren in Shadesmar and bond it, while still there? Or do they both need to be in the Physical Realm? Would the Bond be initiated differently? Related to that would be the question of a KR swearing a higher ideal while in Shadesmar, which What are your thoughts?

Well, it been a while since I have made another topic. Let's see how long I can keep this up as a weekly thing. So, during the week, I was on a thread talking about certain mechanics of Feruchemy regarding Tin (*Cough* @Koloss17 *Cough* Tin Theology *Cough Cough*) and it brought up how by storing most of your senses, you can make yourself numb to pain, and this got me thinking, what advantages come, rather from tapping your metalminds, from storing in them instead? there are the basic ones, of making yourself light so your faster and the numbing pain I mentioned, but I think there are other benefits we may be missing or haven't thought of, so I made this thread. What kinds of benefits can you think of?

Somewhere after finishing WoR, I remember going online and seeing a thread on Reddit about creating a new thread called r/stormmoash. I was vaguely amused, I most certainly did not expect it to become what it has become today. Stormlight has had some less than True Hero™ characters. This complexity has always been part of what made me love the series. Some characters, like Shallan and Adolin as well as Elhokar are quite notably polarizing. I would count Dalinar in that group too post-Oathbringer. Some are more reviled: Sadeas, Amaram and Moash. To my surprise, opinion on Kaladin too seems to be quite divisive, mostly due to the existence of the previous characters. He is pointed out as being more traditionally heroic, in contrast to the other characters, on top of being depressing. He seems typically moral than the more complicated history of Dalinar and less fun to read or interact with than Adolin and Shallan. Some people have also taken issue with Kaladin's view of Lighteyes. Dalinar: I feel already tired of explaining my views on him. There are two new threads where I have put forward my views on him "moral miscalculations of Mr Sanderson in Oathbringer" by Parallax and "Dalinar's Genocide" by Hakusho Slick. Shallan and Adolin mostly come under heat because of their casual racism. Many seem to be thoroughly incensed by Adolin referring to Kaladin as "bridgeboy" as well as his comments on "the world changing" when "even darkeyes have access to Shardblade", the fact that he makes that comment about women having Shardblades also tends to draw frowns (although it is notable that he makes that comment in a positive manner, offering to teach Shallan how to properly wield a Shardblade) One of the most quoted things for hating against Shallan is the same scene with Adolin, where he makes the comment mentioned above about Shallan's worry about seeming feminine while lugging about a Shardblade. She responds by thinking "thank you for comparing all women to peasants".... Oof. There is the infamous boots scene with Tyn where she bullies Kaladin into giving her his boots. Before that, once again with Tyn, they both try on something (I forget, eye drops? lens? I think it was the former) to darken their eye colour so they could move about freely. Shallan is very excited to shed lighteyes propriety. Then she suddenly gets really worried that there might exist something to make darkeyes seem lighteyes. The point I'm trying to make by going on a spiel about these characters' various controversies is that these things are discussed. Negative opinions and accompanying evidence are examined, others' point of view seen as valid, arguments and counter-arguments are made, and so on. I'm not saying Moash isn't discussed. I've seen the threads and topics. For example, the Vyre discussions. I'm pointing that a disproportionately large amount of disliking Moash seems to have become popular simply due to trending. Oh yes, what he did was not okay but we have characters like Sadeas, Amaram and Roshone right there beside him. Moash killed Elhokar at a pivotal moment. Elhokar did genuinely try to change and was close to swearing his Ideals. Moash succeeded where the others (except Roshone, RIP Tien) didn't, as Sadeas failed in his Battle of the Tower plot and Amaram failed to dispose of Kaladin. But there are no threads or discussions simply dedicated to only hating on any of these other characters. I mean discussions like Shallan Davar disgust thread do exist but the Moash thing has gone out of control. Moash has the aforementioned very famous hashtag on reddit, where people simply drop in to say that they hate him with almost the same frequency that they say "I am Stick". There are discussions dedicated to simply hating on Moash. As well as various other such threads on who would kill Moash, etc. People casually drop "I hate Moash" or variations thereof, which get upvoted a lot. These comments often seem to be there for the sole purpose of getting upvotes. There has a become a cycle of *positivity* around the activity of dissing on this character. Here's the meat of the matter though, the name Moash actually doesn't seem to generate as much hatred as Sadeas or Amaram. It creates amusement. He isn't hated nearly as much as he is associated with lighthearted online banter. People make a "dynamic entry" with a post about how they hate Moash, generally get positive feedback and that's it. This is especially popular on forum games. (I have to admit to having dropped Moash's name in a similar manner but I did it to gauge receptiveness to disagreements against popular opinion during one of my first posts on this site. I had just come from reddit, I wanted to see how people would react. With burns or actual arguments. Thanks to AonEne for providing the latter.) People seem to find hating Moash funny. I'm genuinely curious (read: very worried) if someone will come and comment "I hate Moash, lol" or "this guy is #Moashdidnothingwrong" or just go "storm Moash" If you feel strongly about it, try to keep your comments restricted to Moash's actions against Elhokar and Kaladin. It's been more than four months since the Other Side of the World thread was posted, and people (thank you @Arky-boi and @I think I am here.) have done some great worldbuilding around the concept. Here's a thread to consolidate what we have so far. If you have any comments, questions, or additions, post below!

We all know that Nightblood is a heavily Invested object. I had the thought that it would be interesting if he was used as a Hemelurgic spike, but then I dismissed the thought due to the aforementioned Investment. However, he is sheathed in an aluminum sheath. I was just wondering if it was possible to use his sheath as an aluminum spike to rob someone of their powers. Aluminum "removes all powers" and I remember reading a WoB that says Hemelurgy doesn't always kill the subject. Iirc Hemelurgy also works anywhere in the cosmere so long as you have the knowledge of spike placement and the Intent. I admit I don't understand aluminum or its hemelurgical abilities very well. Thoughts? I hope this inspires some discussion! If there are any WoB you know to refute or support please share!

So the surgeons oath 1. Protect those in most danger. 2. Protect younger people if the danger is the same. 3. Of someone is beyond help move on to the next one in line. This is so obviously a windrunner ideal I'd be surprised if I'm the only one who noticed. 4th or 5th ideal what do you think?

Do we have any theories on what Odium's way of splintering a Shard is? My suspicion is that one of the reasons he doesn't like investing in planets is because that is his avenue of attack. Presumably, once a Shard begins investing in a place, they give up some control over this invested power, and make it available for whatever/whoever they invest in to utilise. Odium, then, corrupts or co-opts a Shard's invested sources and turns them against their own Shard. In effect, he turns a Shard's outgoing invested power inwards towards itself to weaken and shatter it into splinters. This works similar to how condensed Atium, when taken away from Ruin, weakened him. Except in Odium's case, his corruption of the Shards invested sources makes those sources actively fight their own Shard. So not only does the Shard weaken by loosing access to it's own power, but that power is actively working against it's own intent, drawing more and more power from the Shard, inevitably leading to eventual splintering. Now Odium seems to have been forced to invest in Roshar. And Cultivation has seen him shatter Honor. Odium literally is about to potentially invest in Taravangian and Moash. What's your take on this?

If Adolin manages to revive Maya, will she actually be the same spren as before? If you forcibly rip the majority of a being's self out and replace it (even if it is exactly the same), is it the same being, in the same way as if you rebuild a boat exactly as it was before, replacing planks as they go bad, is it the same boat? What will the Cognitive and Spiritual ramifications of Maya's revival be? If she is different enough to reflect in the other realms, would that make Adolin not technically an Edgedancer, regardless of powers and what Maya's bonded used to be, in the same way Renarin may technically not be a Truthwatcher? Discuss.
